[Q] Charging oddities while phone is off

Hi,
Last year my girlfriend allowed me to root her Sensation to try out different ROMs and all went well. A few months ago however, she started to have problems while charging her phone.
If she plugs it in while the phone is closed, the orange LED flashes on/off at around a 2 second interval, instead of holding it's colour. Furthermore, it never changes to green to indicate that the charge is complete. When the phone is in this state, she can't turn her phone on either - she has to unplug it in order to turn it on. If the phone is already on, and she plugs it in, everything behaves normally.
Either than that, the battery seems to hold the charge normally and the rest of the phone still works very well.
I've tried searching for similar problems but haven't landed on anything similar or which may be helpful. It's really got me stumped to what could be the cause, and more importantly, how to fix it!
Would someone have any ideas?

Does the phone behaves in same manner if it's fully charge n switched off when plugged to the charger.does the orange led fluctuate.
The orange led fluctuate whn the voltage of charger is less and it takes times to charge try switching the charger means if you use wall charger then charge through pc and vice versa

We tried switching from wall plug to USB on the laptop and it does the same thing. However, we noticed that if the battery isn't completely drained, the led doesn't flash - it charges normally.
Would there be a way around this?

I'd pick on the odds that the LED light hardware controller is slightly faulty, but if its really like you said its nothing to worry about, right?

this used to happen with me when i was on stock rom.
the problem is when the battery is completely drained it needs lots of voltage to get charge
for this problem i took my cell to htc service center and they replaced the adapter and the problem was solved
i think you must buy a new adapter or say a new charger i thing that must solve your problem of led and your phone will get charge as normal even with the battery completely drained OR i think we get wall chargers you can look at the picture in which we have to place the battery and the battery gets charged you justt have to put the battery.. this charger is locally available in indian market for 80 to 100 rs.. you can search on net for the charger this is really a good thing and is a universal charger chagers each and every battery here in india we call it as khekda (marathi word for carb ) charger

Charging problem on stock ROM?

My wife and I both have a Nexus S, which are both almost 2 years old now. She has always been running stock ROMs and only updated when there was an OTA update available. No rooting, no nothing I however tried as much as possible and currently running SlimBean 4.2.2 Build 5 :good:
Since 3 days now, the battery in my wife’s phone isn’t charging anymore. I tried the following:
- Use my charger and an old Nokia charger: doesn’t work
- Put my battery in her phone: doesn’t work
- Put her battery in my phone and charge mine: works like a charm
The last one’s the solution for now: at night I charge one of the batteries in my phone and put it in hers, while at work I charge the other battery from my PC via USB.
Based on my ideas I’d say that something in the USB-port on my wife’s phone might be broken. However, there are 2 phenomena that I find rather strange:
- When her phone says it’s time to connect the charger, I take out the battery and put it in my own phone. I power up and the battery level reads somewhere between 60 and 80 percent
- When I power off her phone and connect the charger, I’d expect to see either the charging symbol or nothing. But none of these: it powers up as soon as I connect the charger
I don’t know about the first issue, but could it be the battery stats might be corrupted? The last issue makes me believe that the USB-port is at least not completely disconnected/broken.
Has anyone got an idea what the issue could be? I wouldn’t want to work on her phone rooting it if it isn’t necessary, but on the other hand she might be better off in various other ways as well

Being completely stock and never modified, I'd say it's the usb.. Have you tried the OEM connector for the computer?..
1. I would take it to a shop
2. You could also try cleaning the contacts
3. May do nothing but if you take the battery/sim out and hold the power button for a minute, this is supposed to completely power down the phone, and then reinstall sim/battery and reboot..
4. Use this as an excuse to modify her phone (telling her that you can put it back to stock if she doesn't like it)..

This happens a lot on my phone, .. Be careful with my solution, I hope it works for you..
Basically inside the usb port on the phone, there is a flat pin. On my phone, this pin ends up bending downwards towards the bottom of the phone.. What you could do is get a very thin knife or a swiss army blade and just try and lift the flat pin in order to make it locate in the center of the usb port (hole) .. The issue being the pin doesnt connect with the charger ..

[Q] Nexus 5 charging only when it is turned off

Hey there!
My Nexus 5, after updating it to 4.4.3, is having a issue: the device is charging only when it is turned off. When I turn the phone on, while charging, it will remain charging. But if I connect the charger, when the phone is already turned on, it will not charge.
I have tested 2 different cables, same issue.
Is anyone else having the same problem? How to fix it?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Just for clarification: I'm using Kit Kat 4.4.3, rooted, Xposed.

what are you charging from? ac or pc?

Another question, are you using the stock wall wart? Some aftermarket chargers don't put out enough amperage. Another possibility is that you've got some rogue processes keeping your phone awake so it's using battery as quickly (or quicker) than it can take in a charge.

I'm using the AC charger that came with my Nexus 5.

I think it might be a hardware issue. I have the same problem with my pebble. I have tried multiple cables/chargers and it only charges when it's off. When it's on I get the charging notification but it doesn't actually charge

Nothing. The devide is still charging only when it is turned off.

Having the same issue since update 2 weeks ago. Already wiped phone and problem still exist. Start to think it's hardware but tried 2 different charger same issue.

So guys I am almost the same problem since this morning. I went on a 3 day trip to the Netherlands on Friday and charged my phone in the car for the last time on friday. I died on me this morning. While I was on the way back today and my N5 was in it's last percents of battery I noticed it wouldnt charge anymore. I thought fastcharging might have killed my car radio. Now back home I tried to charge it. For some reason the charging while off screen reapeared as soon as it turned off. Whenn I turned it on again it stopped charging. Tried rebooting multiple times. My phone now only charges while being in Fastboot or Recovery mode. Anybody having any ideas what might have caused this an how to fix this? Cleaning the charger didn't help me.

Hi. Also had this problem a few days now. Alot of headscraching is done
N5 won`t charge when on. Tried my N10 charger, but still the same. With my wireless charger it register the phone when off, but cannot charge it at all. I've also done a factory reset, and even changed the battery. Still no solution. Wondering if the charging port is damaged somehow. It doesn't cost much so maybe I`ll order a new and replace it to. I remember draining the battery more than usual right before this issue acurred. I was hiking, and din`t bring my portable charger. Also it could be some kind of water damage. Had the phone in my pocket all the time, it was not raining, but I got pretty sweaty:-9 Never had any issue with my stock Nexus 5 up till now. Don`t think this i a common problem, when this is the only place I've found others with this issue I`ll order the charging port, keep on searching on forums, and take it from there.

I'm having the same problem on my Nexus 5 now as well. When on, it won't charge via micro-usb (via original charger or USB-to-PC), nor will it charge wirelessly. When turned completely off, it charges, but at GREATLY GREATLY reduced speed. It seems to be stuck in a loop as it it's just been plugged in. It cycles continuously through the lightning-bolt battery image, followed by the charge percentage graphic. The screen blinks, then it starts again. I suspect that it only charges for a moment or two before each reset. For example, it only charged about 20% over the span of six hours last night.
I've tried four chargers and four USB cables, and of course both wireless and wired charging. It's something with the hardware I suspect.
Anyone have any suggestions? It looks the the factory wipe upthread didn't help...

I am having same problem too. I'm guessing it's because of water damage. Where did you find the charging part? I'm thinking of ordering one for myself to see if the problem is fixed!

Having the same problem now too. Won't Qi or USB charge from OEM charger and cable while powered on.
Appears to be charging fine while powered off.
Did anyone come up with a resolution?

INTERNALS - N5 Power Routing

Recently disassembled and replace the original battery but have been having issues with the reassembly. Battery indicates charging and wireless charge status but does not hold. N5 must be powered via USB/external batt. and instantly powers down upon disconnect.
Is anyone familiar with the internal components to troubleshoot this issue? Ribbons look properly connected visually, however there is obviously an issue. Maybe a internal ribbon pinch/break somewhere?
Please reference photos to indicate how the charge process works, much thanks!

Are you sure the replacement battery is good? What happens when you put back the original battery?

Did this problem ever occur before changing the battery? Do you have a way to check to see if the replacement battery is working properly such as trying it in another Nexus 5?
I'm admit that I'm just guessing. I've changed the battery many times on the Nexus 5 using 3rd party and OEM batteries but never experience what you are experiencing.

Hi guys, I've searched anywhere but I couldn't found a workaround for my issue, so I decided to make this post since it's driving me nuts.

Installing it was easy, but i quickly encountered some problems! First, the battery would not charge. The opo died at 2% and no matter how much time I left it in charge, it took almost a day to get it back little by little. Anyhow I managed to make it work, but the problem now is different: most of the times, I have to use caffeine to keep the screen on while charging, otherwise it won't work. I know that since I'm using AccuBattery Pro to check the incoming power. Sometimes it doesn't even work this way and I have to shut the screen off, unplug the cable, plug it in again, and then keep the screen on. I noticed that since I left the phone in charge for 1 hour and the battery percentage was still the same as it was earlier. Take a look at the screen so you can understand.
Ah! I almost forgot! 2 or 3 times has happened that the phone powered off all of a sudden. I'd like to throw it from my f******g window.
P.S. I'm using opo's original charger & cable; i tried with a different charger & cable still made by oneplus since my father has the same phone, so it isn't a cable\charger problem.

The original swollen battery has battery backup issues too? If not,I advice you to use that again,as no better,or equal and genuine batteries are available anywhere.

No, never had a problem with the original one but it was starting to break the back cover... So I threw it in the bin ? the seller sent me another sealed battery, maybe I should try it. Any advice on how to calibrate it properly?

Search battery thread in accessories section.

Mind telling me what is the serial number on the battery connector? those serial number can tell you whether you bought an original battery or OEM battery...
