There are a few people complaining of seemingly random reboots, myself included.
I have bell stock, unlocked, unrooted.
It started to happen at almost my second month mark with this device, while listening to Spotify or Tapatalk browsing or simply just idle, just noticing the bright startup screen all of a sudden. This reboot occurred once or twice daily.
I repaired the phone using the Sony pc companion, I also restored all of my settings and most of the apps.
No undesired reboot for almost 2 weeks, until moments ago, listening to google music thru Bluetooth (which I do most of the time anyways.)
I have kept a quite small number of apps while waiting to see what triggers the reboot, nothing you'd consider risky, I'd mention Nova launcher, aquamail and tasker. I haven't install yet greenify, lux, call recording app or the like.
What I did do lately (yesterday and the days before), I uninstalled or disabled some of the bloat, nothing of importance I think. Here's the complete list of disabled apps.

Honestly, not used to these reboots, while I've seen some in the past, they would be pretty rare, on rooted and custom roms.
Is this a common occurrence among the z5 folks? Any idea what triggers it? It looks like being soft related, but have no idea really, perhaps someone more knowledgeable attempts to address it?
Cheers!

Never happened to mine, although more than 200 apps installed. I would suggest do a factory reset using PC Companion...
Xperia Z5 E6653
Never had a reboot here.
Can you check in diagnostic if there is an app acting weird?
I might enable back all app and check if the reboot persist or remove tasker and try.
One more thing u can do ia trying ur phone in safe mode.

There was no application information in diagnostic pages, however it asked me to send app usage data to Sony which I did. I assume it might help when this happens next time.
I reenabled a few apps and will see what happens next.
My last factory reset happened precisely 9 days ago, according to same diagnostics. I have counted the user apps, 48 apps in total, I could remove maybe half of them without any remorse

No reboot on mine either if I'm honest.

no reboot here aswell...using it for 3 months now.
No undesired reboots also.
I see. I was under the impression that this was a more common occurrence. My bad.
Will probably attempt another factory reset if can't fix otherwise.
Until then, please ignore this thread.

I actually have had random reboots. I've also had moments where the screen refuses to wake up properly. It'll switch on but stay black. It hasn't happened in a long time, though.

I've had a few on my first unit.
Did the screen turn fuzzy like a snow storm on an old TV? (I don't know how to describe it, u know what I mean)
I got mine replaced because of faulty camera lens and display, now I haven't had one single reboot (other then the reboots I requested myself obviously)
I get some (when overheated or sometimes while switching from cellular to WiFi or WiFi to cellular).
Not to bad 90% of the time, though supper annoying when it happens while listening to music/podcasts.
Sent from my SM-T710 using Tapatalk
I wouldn't mind a random reboot once in awhile. It is advised to reboot it yourself once a week anyway.
When it started to happen here it was kinda annoying, at least daily. It mostly occurred while listening to music via Spotify, but I also had it reboot while chatting in hangouts and once while talking to a bell agent..
So yeah, I'm trying to prevent the daily occurrence to happen and so far seems to have worked. After the steps I mentioned yesterday, no reboots so far and I went through pretty much everything I do with my phone.

I saw my phone rebooting once when I put it in pocket, I do not think it caused by overheating. I thought maybe I accidentally hit power button.
But thing went strange when it did not recognize wifi. I found it lost every wifi password spots.
Every other apps still are fine (I do not any problem except wifi problem). My phone is E6653 with newest .200 firmware.
I think I just encounter once (but very serious), and I am not sure whether it reboots any more times when I do not know.
on z5 , random reboots are related to xposed. if you install xposed , you will get them

Not entirely true. Yes, this can happen but I haven't event unlocked my BL, let alone rooted and flashed Xposed; yet I've still have reboots.

Not rooted here, unfortunately can't unlock bl. Hopefully an alternate root method will come someday..

I very much suspect the random reboots to be related to disabling one or several apps shipped with this device.
I am trying to see if it's easy to spot the first one that will cause the reboot by disabling one at a time and waiting for eventual reboot.
Probably isn't too worthwhile since next big update is around the corner and hopefully fixed by then, I was thinking if somebody else might join the search for the offending app? It can only help, I think, trying to reproduce the issue and signal it to sony devs, just in case they don't know about it yet.
So some means to investigate this are:
A) disable one app at a time, manual reboot for good measure and wait ~ 24 hrs; if reboot doesn't occur continue with disabling the next app
or B) disable a bunch of apps, see if the reboot occurs on your device.
We are only interested in those apps sony decided to be install in system account: Album, File Commander, Music, Privilege Plus, PS stuff, Video, What's new, Xperia Lounge, etc
If you can reproduce the issue, report back with the apps disabled and your firmware version. I will try to put together the results and see if we figure a pattern or simply send the data to sony.
rock on!
Try not disabling sony account manager and fb things.

Yes I do have sprint .....
been getting them after flashing Damages ROM ..but I'm on pancake now and get them..
I've been experiencing this too. I get daily texts from The Weather Channel (i know, odd) and I get 2 messages: One from TWC number, and another with the same contents from Hiddenaddresssender.

I never gotten those WTC text messages..
but whenever someone sends me a picture and I download it...it looks like it's downloading, then it shows me the "hiddensenderaddressr" message..
I uninstalled Handcent to see if that's the problem though....

Used to get it all the time. Either your wifi is on when you're receiving a mms or you have the dreaded mms issue. You could try ##3282# , but most likely you'll need to hard reset.

##3282# just re-activates your phone. Its not a hard reset. You wont lose anything. Id try that first before a hard reset. In my experience its just a temparary fix though. It will most likely happen again at some point. Does your phone have the htc logo on the back?

No. Its the same process theyre using to fix the data service issue.
1. Open up your Dialer and enter ##3282#
2. You will be asked select either View Mode or Edit Mode, select Edit Mode.
3. When you are asked for a password you must enter your MSL.
4. Select Username then click your Menu Button
5. Click Restore
6. All of the Data Settings for your account will be restored and your phone will reboot.
7. When it turns back on and Sense UI completely loads then a message saying your phone is being activated will appear, the process takes about 3 minutes.
8. After your phone has been reactivated you need to update your Profile and PRL from settings.
If your phone skipped the activation part you may need to call customer support and tell them that your phone is telling you to continue activation.
Thats pretty much it. Your phone will reboot twice and then you can send yourself a mms msg to see if it worked. If not youll need to hard reset. Like I said its a temparary fix. I finally told sprint I was tired of having to hard reset my phone all the time and they sent me a replacement phone with the google brand. No problems since. If you call tech support theyll walk you through the same process after having you pull your battery and send yourself a mms and some other useless trouble shooting procedures.
Just did it...thanks alot amigo...

Rom doesnt matter. It was happening to me even when I was using stock and pretty much every other rom I ever used. Only other thing to do is the hard reset. I researched this issue pretty much since I got my hero last year. Nobody seems to know why. Like I said if you complain enough to Sprint they might replace it for you. Or the official release may fix it. Or maybe damages latest will do the trick. He says hes got it all figured it out...
Looks like I'm going to have to wait for the 2.1 update though..
Damages latest didn't do the trick, flashed it last night and it was the same thing..
Posting this for a friend. He bought a Nexus 5 recently and his complaint about battery life was related to the Gmail app. He says he used Gmail for no more than 15 mins.
As you can see from the screenshots, something is wrong... GMail never uses so much battery from my experience. Any help?

I guess nobody has experienced this before? Gmail app draining ridiculous amounts of battery?
I'm guessing not, I for one don't even have Gmail in the list of apps contributing anything and I have 2 accounts in sync so something must be keeping it awake. Perhaps it's syncing up years worth of email?
EDIT: It's keeping the phone awake for 2.5 hours so it has to be stuck syncing something

Why should they? They're experiencing non-standard behaviour from the app so they need to get to the root of the issue, not just install another app to act as a placebo.
To the OP - I'd personally factory reset the phone and set it up again and see if it's the same thing. But that's just me

Uh , I did mention that he factory reset in a previous post. It didn't fix the issue. He did mention that prior to factory reset , he had around 3 Gmail accounts being synced. After the reset , he only linked one. Battery is still draining but not as fast as before , but it's still an issue - 100% to 63% in 3 hours
It has to be something in his specific Gmail account that's causing it to stay awake cause it's not normal behaviour at all and the fact no one else has seen this issue would indicate a localised issue
This just happened to me too

Did you ever figure this out? It just happened to me too.
Usually the battery in my Note 2 SPH-900 lasts all day, but lately it's been draining faster than normal. Today, just after 2:00, it beeped because the battery is about to die, even though I've hardly even touched my phone all day. I checked the battery info page and it said Gmail battery use was 60%!

I still say it's bad coding. Why doesn't the syncing process have a time out? And a notification when there is an issue?
Toggle sync off and back on again. You might also try wiping Gmail data. The kill the app or reboot.

HI There,
Me ( Nexus 5 ) and my wife ( nexus 4 ) have the same issues with the battery. Gmail is draining enormously
Is there a solution jet?

Clear data
I've had this happen on two phones (Nexus 5 & 6). It seems to relate to some bad sync going out of control. Turning synchronization off and on did not solve the problem. The only solution I found was to clear data for the Gmail app. This did make me have to readmit my non-Gmail accounts, but it was worth it. In fact, I have stopped using Gmail and have switched to Blue Mail exclusively just in case.
I've had the same problem with the gmail app on a galaxy s4 mini (CM 12.1). The phone got really hot and the battery was empty in a few hours.
The only (permanent) solution was to delete all accounts (I was using IMAP) and add them again as POP accounts.
Ok, Last night my Gear manager for my Gear S2 said that it was updating and then closed. I open it several times and it did the same thing! So I thought it was frelled! I removed all components of the Gear manager from my phone and any added software also rest my S2! Nothing Happened, went to the Gplay store an downloaded the gear manager again and now it installs but after I blue-tooth connects to my S2 it says make sure your phone is compatible! it is a VZ Note Edge a Samsung device that is not rooted or messed with. I need ideas and help or someone with a direct line to Samsung to ***** slap them! thanks
I too have this problem. Apparently a problem with the version of Gear App Manager specifically for Samsung phones.
I spent over an hour with Samsung support via their Live Chat tool. Bottom line is that their new version of the Gear App is flawed and they pulled it from their site. There is no working version of the app available at this time. I was told that a working version would be posted in a few hours. But I am not holding my breath.
If you HAVE A SAMSUNG PHONE, and you see this download failure, and your STILL HAVE BLUETOOTH CONNECTIVITY, then DO NOT UNINSTALL the Gear App or you will lose all connectivity!
I tried the recommended process of using the Internet App on my phone, going to 'apps.samsung.com/Gear' and then attempting to download the Gear Manager App specifically intended for Samsung phones. I got an error message that "Product does not exist in store (4002)". Even their tech support people were surprised by this.
I also downloaded the version of Gear App on Goggle Play. It did install but will not connect to the watch. Error message is "Check if your phone is compatible and if the Samsung Gear app needs to be updated, then try again."
I will attach pics of both attempts.

Different Error Msg
Now when I attempt to download Gear App Manager from the Samsung site 'apps.samsung.com/Gear', instead of the error message "Product does not exist in this store.", I get a different error message "This app not available for your device."
I hate Samsung with the power of 1000 suns.
I should have come here first. Like many of you, I tried to download the update, then uninstalled Gear Manager, then soft-reset both watch and phone and found myself well and truly hosed. I called Samsung and waited on hold for 20 minutes then explained my problem to one tech, who transferred me to another tech, who transferred me to the Galaxy Apps Support, who told me that she couldn't help me with an app I didn't download from the Galaxy store and hung up on me. I called back, waited on hold for 20 minutes, explained the whole ordeal again, and the tech said she would have to research it and call me back in 24-48 hours.
These are my errors, Frellin Samsung!
Just finished another long chat session with another Samsung technical support supervisor. Their problem has gotten worse in that they posted an updated version of Gear App Manager, but most people are getting the new error message "This app not available for your device." So the Samsung support center continues to be flooded with phone calls and support chat requests.
Again they say a fix should be posted in a few hours.
I don't believe them.

FIXED! (sort of)
Finally, Samsung has the right App out there.
If you have Samsung Galaxy Apps, you should be able to get the update to Gear Apps Manager there.
If not, (Verizon customers) on your phone open either Internet app or Chrome and go to apps.samsung.com/gear . Then select the the version for Galaxy Devices. Should then see this:
This will download and install Samsung Gear ver 2.2.16022241. When the app is installed and then opened, it downloaded two more pieces of software which were then installed to the phone. (click on the prompts on both the phone and watch) This loads some update software to watch, but does NOT install a new version of the watch software.
BIG ISSUE: this updater removed ALL my watch faces from both the phone AND the watch. I will need to download and reinstall all my faces. (This may be due to the fact that I deleted the prior version of Gear App Manager and that likely deleted the associated "Data", ie watch faces)
UPDATE!!
So I have kept my watch off all day, turning it on and re-establishing a new connection from scratch every couple of hours to see if anything updated. And suddenly, IT WORKS NOW!
I had google play do auto updates earlier, and I didn't see Samsung Gear in the list of apps updated (it was long enough some wheren't on the notification screen), but I ran the app, and suddenly it downloaded the 30mb+/- update!
Now its just stuck at connecting to the watch...
I'll give another update when I get further in the process...
UPDATE 2!!
It works. Huzzah! It got stuck at connecting to the gear after the initial update. So I closed down the software, unpaired the watch in bluetooth settings, and restarted the watch again. This time around it connected and everything went smoothly. Finally. Its nice to have my watch back in working order.
For now.
Yeah I got the one from the gplay, and it worked! Again Thanks to all!

Hi, I'm currently on the AT&T carrier on Oreo 8.0.0 ( G955USQU2CRC5, latest update ) and a random message pops up randomly saying that "Device Health has stopped" or "Device Health keeps stopping".
The only option is "Close app" and when I hit it, all it does is close the message for it to pop up again randomly.

Anyone else having this problem and/or have a solution?
Could this be part of the 8.0.0 update?
Every time I Google this message, the only thing I find is posts about S Health which I don't think this is.
I'd look through your apps under settings see if you find it select show system apps as well. Delete data if you find it. It's something I would've done.

That's the thing, nothing under apps, even with system apps enabled, shows under "Device Health." The closest thing I have to this is the one for Samsung health and I've already tried to clear cache, delete data, force stop, etc. It doesn't do anything.
I've tried resetting the phone, reflashing the phone, resetting app permissions, and making sure I don't download too many apps, but it always ends with the same result.
I'm starting to think this is an AT&T specific problem or something, so I might try reflashing some other version later.

Try this. Go to device maintenance under settings, then on the top right click what looks like a piece of paper you'll see apps that keeps crashing. Maybe you'll find it there click on it and it should take you to the app information. That is if AT&T phones have it

Samsung+ forum maybe they could help
I have the same issue, have had it about a month now since I got Oreo.
This past weekend I did a factory reset. The issue was gone for about 2 days, now today it's back. I looked in the updates app lists and nothing updated that looks like it would be causing this.
All I really know is this is annoying as hell. Some days I know I click that error off well over 100 times, probably over 200. Most times it pops up you hit it 6-8 times to clear it.
edit - S8 here - Also RC5 version

I have fixed my phone, but it's a bit extensive and maybe not worth it depending on what you do on your phone.
I tried to follow this guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8+/how-to/snap-guide-flashing-standard-fw-carrier-t3627255
and used the unlocked firmware and so far, on Oreo, I haven't gotten that message.
I also don't have any bloatware from AT&T so that's also a plus.
Just a thought, though.

So, simply unlocking it and not having ATT apps did the trick?
What about Samsungs apps?
I've rooted in the past but haven't done so recently, I'll definitely look into this.
Thanks.

edit - BTW I just realized this is the S8+ forum, for anyone else that reads this and has an S8 you need to go there. Some of the downloads are different.

Samsung apps are installed and they work, just no carrier specific bloatware.
Also I believe that the phone is not actually unlocked, rather it only uses the unlocked firmware.
Just follow the "Carrier Switching" section with the XAA CSC code and then the "Flashing Unlocked Firmware" if you want to do what I did.
Did anyone find a solution for this? My ATT LG Phoenix II is doing the exact same thing and has been for the last couple weeks except it does it every 10 to 15 seconds so the phone is basically useless. I can find no Device Health application on the phone or even one that looks like it might be causing this.
Resolution to "Device Health Keeps Stopping"?
Did you find a resolution to this problem? If so, what action was taken?
Thank you

No. I didn't use it for a couple (few?) weeks and the next time I used the phone it still did it, but a LOT less often. The way it is now is just mildly annoying, not making the phone useless like it was. I assume there was an update that made it better but I really don't know what for sure.
Solution found?!
Good afternoon,
*
I believe I discovered a resolution to this issue. I work for a City Government as an IT Specialist in our Mobile Device Support Unit. I handle over 3000+ device for all City employees. We've come across this exact problem about 3 times since Oreo rollout. Our standard device for all employees is the Samsung Galaxy S7. We've attempted a bunch of different things, from wiping the device completely to flashing an older version (Android 6.0) on the device to no avail. Previously we found that once EVERY APP on the device was updated along with the Software, the issue was resolved. However, as of today, I was working on another one of these troubled devices. I updated E_V_E_R_Y_T_H_I_N_G and the pop-up still showed. So, I told the user I would just replace the entire device and Smart Switch his content to the new phone. While I was in the transfer process (already switched the SIM) I noticed the troubled device didn't receive a single pop-up. This got me thinking, so I waited and tested the device some more without the SIM and didn't receive a single pop-up. This led me to believe the issue is likely correlated to Service. I had read on other websites that generally this issue is related to AT&T Samsung devices. Some solutions were to flash a vanilla OS (without bloatware) to cease the annoyance.
*
After reinserting the SIM into the problem phone, I almost immediately received the pop-up.
*
SO! I went diving.
*
I came across a strange setting I hadn't considered / seen / wasted my time to read. It was to turn on and off AT&T Mobile Network Diagnostics. GREAT! If I have this "Device Health" issue and it seems to be tied to a data connection, this setting makes sense! If there is some error with the sending of diagnostics to AT&T then it would only make sense to receive this type of error. What even IS "Device Health?" So once I turned that off and reset the APN I haven't received the pop-up since.
*
I am sure by this point my post is
*
TL;DR
*
Go to Settings > Connections > Mobile Networks > and turn OFF "AT&T Mobile network diagnostics"
*
Go to Access Point Names > (3 vertical dots top right corner) > Reset to default
*
Since doing that i haven't seen the pop-up.*
*
Cheers
*

Did everything except, there's no "AT&T Mobile network diagnostics" to shut off.
Still have the same problem.
Hi. So ever since i got the poco x3, my phone has been feeling uncomfortably hot. Its warm to the touch when unused and uncomfortably HOT with light tasks.
Upon delving deeper saw that the Google Contacts Storage process (part of Android Core Apps) is taking most of the battery. Thus resulting in heating up and getting an SOT of less than 5 hours. I have about 9000 contacts in my google accounts (7000 + 2000 in seperate accounts).
Ive tried everything and am unable to solve the issue.
1) Tried clearing cache and data and re synced all my contacts. Didnt solve.
2) Tried using a third party dialer and contacts app. Didnt solve.
3) Tried dividing those 7000 contacts in 3 seperate accounts. Didnt solve.
4) I have tried to remove all battery optimizations from the contact sync processes and phone processes. Didnt resolve.
5) Factory reseting from recovery. Didnt solve.
Ive been using the OnePlus 6 for 2 years before this and Relame 6 for a few months before this and never faced this issue despite having so many contacts.
Im running 12.0.3. Global Rom.
What can I possibly do to resolve this? getting rid of those contacts is not an option.
Also, secondly, my Google Backup is broken. No matter what I do its stuck at waiting to backup. I used adb to trigger it and it does back up but only once. Next day it gets stuck again. Any ideas for that?

I used ADB to make the google drive backup available and after a restart this option became permanent available to me in settings. I did it about 1 week ago and I just check it out and is still available.

Hi. Thanks for the response. My main issue is actually the heating+battery drain. Im traveling this week and it is going to be a pain! I can live with manually backing up. Do you have any suggestions for the heating? Seems like call log backup/restore is also consuming battery since I've force stopped contact and phone app and started using another thrid party dialer app.

hm, seems to me that this is miui12 issue, since your older phones didn't have that and it was working... I'm wildly guessing here, but you could try two things:
1. disable synchronization - it's possible that miui12 is trying to sync that many contacts and for whatever reason its cpu/resource consuming, or failing silently and trying again, and again...
2. disable miui12 optimizations in developer menu
and see if any of this help... don't forget to reboot your phone after any change you made and let it settle for a while...

Hi. I've tried both these options. Disabling sync results in the call log/backup eating up that share of battery.
Miui optimizations are off for all contact and phone related apps. First thing i did. ?

ok, but i mean disable miui12 optimizations globally (there is one switch for it in developer settings) not only for certain apps... Did you by any chance disabled or uninstalled some bloatware from Xiaomi? Probably not, but uninstalling some part of system apps could also be responsible for this behavior...
Or you can unlock your bootloader and flash some pure Android ROM and see if that helps... I was only able to cope with MIUI12 for two weeks and that was it for me... I am now on NitrogenOS and couldn't be happier... no more Miui schizophrenia for me, thank you very much...

Not really. I'm using a xiaomi.eu ROM and no heating and battery drain issues....if you have unlocked bootloader, you can give it a try.

Waiting for the bootloader to be unlocked. Applied for it. Is the Nitrogen OS stable? My custom rom experimenting days got over ever since I shifted to OOS. Would like to stick with one fully working stable rom.

well, it's still beta, but I can't tell bad word about it, if you go for NitrogenOS, you'll get responsive and fast dev, who's get things done faster that you can think of, excellent battery life, stable (I didn't have single random reboot), for me everything just works, and what is not is fixed within 24-48 hours, I am also talking about A10, since dev is currently working on A11 (it's flashable, but considered alpha)... also NitrogenOS is only custom ROM where you can choose which gapps you need to be flashed, all other ROMs have preinstalled gapps, but if you prefer that ... test this or that, only you can tell if it fits to your needs...

Last time I had such an issue, one or two of my contacts had characters in one of the fields Google very much didn't like, so could be a good way to check that as well.

Alot of my contacts may have weird characters. But they worked fine in the last two phones.
