How to install custom roms? - Verizon HTC One (M8)

Hey. I just got a Verizon M8, and I was looking into installing some custom roms. The main rom that I want to install is a port of Android 6.0 from the GPE. It says that I wouldn't need S-Off to install, as to be honest, IDK what that is.
Anyways, how would I go about installing that rom since I wouldn't need S-OFF?

Well...unless your phone is already boot loader unlocked you sir will need s-off. Verizon doesn't allow us to unlock boot loaders like every other carrier out there.
Start @ http://theroot.ninja
And once s-off/unlocked you will be able to flash custom roms. The roms you saw say don't require s-off are based on phone carriers where unlocked bootloaders are allowed.

One question before flashing Revolution rom?

I need to S-OFF, Install ClockWork Recovery, and obtain SuperCID, then I install the custom rom.
I don't need to root it first, right?
You only need to root and install recovery, personally I never did the siper cid etc and I flash roms on mine.
It will take you ten mins tops but just make sure you read all the documentation first. Oh, do the nandroid back up also incase it goes tits up

I thought you need supercid to install custom rom. And if you want supercid, you need to install ClockWork Recovery and s-off. Am I right?

Super CID helps when you need to flash official HTC Roms/RUU from different carriers or unbranding a carrier phone using the HBoot method. It really doesn't come into play with custom Roms flashed with a custom recovery.
You do need to have either S-Off or an unlocked boot loader to flash a custom recovery such as ClockworkMod. Then you can either root your current Installed Rom or flash a custom rooted Rom.

"You do need to have either S-Off or an unlocked boot loader to flash a custom recovery such as ClockworkMod. " what do u mean by "or"? I just need to s-off to install custom rooted rom or I still need install ClockWork Recovery?

You need to have ClockworkMod recovery installed to flash custom Roms.
There are 2 methods that allow you to flash ClockworkMod. 1. Run revolutionary to S-off your phone. 2. Use the HTC Unlocker to unlock the boot loader. Method 1 is the best option.
Sorry for the nooby question but what would be an advantage to having superCID and being able to flash other official Roms/RUU's?

I suppose if you bought a phone from a private seller that was unbranded or branded for another area, and you want to use the official ROM for your area.
Some people just like to play with stuff, so...
Other than that, I can't think of any, but who knows?
You can flash any custom ROM you want without SuperCID.

[Q] How to go back to at&t stock rom?

Hi everybody,
I have the HTC One X from AT&T (evita), I installed a custom rom but now I want to back to the OFFICIAL Stock Rom AT&T.
My phone is already "sim-unlocked".
1- I must install the OTA or the RUU file on my phone?
2- After this, must I unlock the sim again?
3- And could I receive the OTA update even if I don't use AT&T sim?
Thank you for your attention and your answer.

Sim unlocking has nothing to do with installing custom/stock roms.
Do you mean "Bootloader unlocked" ??
**BE CAREFULL** Many people have bricked there devices flashing a stock ROM when they ran the Super CID hack.
At this point the WISEST course of action I can give you is to use the S-OFF hack available on here, Facepalm S-Off for your device (That does require Super CID) and Root. Once S-Off is set the correct factory ROM for phone won't brick your device.

[Q] Couple of questions

Hey guys i'm fairly new to the one x and i've done some reading, i've rooted, unlocked the bootloader and s-off i just have a couple of questions.
I see for aosp roms that you have to update the ruu to 3.18 how exactly do i do that? What would happen if i didn't update to the latest ruu and flashed the aosp rom anyway? I'm guess like status 7 recovery error?
and would the unlock, root and s-off stay? also, is it safe to ruu?
For aosp roms do you have to downgrade the touchpanel firmware?
Sorry for all the questions but coming from an s3 this stuff can get to be a lot and i just want to make sure i'm doing everything correctly.

Download the 3.18 RUU here. Put your phone into fastboot mode and connect to pc. Run the exe file. It's that simple. Just make sure no other programs are running, and screen saver/hibernation are disabled. If you don't do the RUU first, the ROMs will not boot.
Your unlocked bootloader and s-off status will survive the process. You will just need to flash TWRP recovery again.
You don't need to downgrade your ts firmware for the latest aosp ROMs. If you want to run an older aosp ROM, then yes you do.

[Q] How to s-off and install rom in inspire 4g?

Hello
A friend of mine gave me his Inspire 4G because he was getting sick of Istock GB and I told him I could help. I have experience with Custom roms and such, I have a Huawei Y300 that runs a custom cyanogenmod rom called Expert, I'm not a total noob but this is my first time dealing with an HTC and having to S-OFF and those things. Could you please answer me this questions?
1) It's running Stock Gingerbread rom, so it is EXTREMELY outdated. Do I need to update to ICS to be S-OFF and be able to install custom roms? I look forward to installing Fallen, which is based on 4.3 (CM 10.2)
2) Will It lose the network connectivity? In my huawei you can flash and go up and down in versions however you like. But this HTC has RUUs, radios and all those things. Which should I flash? As I said, currently running stock gingerbread and it is unlocked
Thanks for all your help, I appreciate it

It's the other way around. You'd need to either S-Off or unlock the bootloader to install ICS. There's no stock ICS for the DHD. Your options are AAHK2 (for S-Off) and the Easy Ace Root Tool (for bootloader unlock). Do a little research on those two tools (I've never used either personally), as well as on the difference between S-Off and bootloader unlock, and choose which one you want to use.

RUUs install stock, so if you're trying to get ICS and above you don't want those. If you're planning to install ICS or above, install the latest radio.

I thought there was an ICS update available for this device, but I was wrong. Will try those tools and report my results later. I appreciate the help

I have s-off, now what? ROM suggestions? Upgrade firmware?

So I have s-off now but I'm not sure what to do about the firmware. It's running 1.27.502.5 but I don't know how to upgrade the firmare. The roms I see seem to require it. Is there a rom anyone recomends for my phone as is? Or upgrade?

Is your phone international or US?
If it IS us and not unlocked, see this thread to upgrade to firmware 1.57: http://forum.xda-developers.com/one...nvert-to-htc-usa-unlocked-1-12-t3271861/page8
Then, you can flash caynogenmod, or mokee ROM.
You can also use a tutorial I made to flash a new splash screen to match your custom boot animation:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-a9/general/s-off-custom-splash-screen-t3506737/page1
it is US but I have unlocked the bootloader to root. Or are you talking about sim unlocked? Sorry, I haven't rooted a phone since the m7 years ago.

Did you buy it from a carrier or from HTC.com as unlocked? If it can pre-sim unlocked, you can flash the most recent firmware (as ruu). Only then will you be able to run CyanogenMod or mokee (ROM)

I got it from ATT so I unlocked the bootloader myself. I used the sunshine app for S-off.
