[Q] How to go back to at&t stock rom? - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Hi everybody,
I have the HTC One X from AT&T (evita), I installed a custom rom but now I want to back to the OFFICIAL Stock Rom AT&T.
My phone is already "sim-unlocked".
1- I must install the OTA or the RUU file on my phone?
2- After this, must I unlock the sim again?
3- And could I receive the OTA update even if I don't use AT&T sim?
Thank you for your attention and your answer.

Sim unlocking has nothing to do with installing custom/stock roms.
Do you mean "Bootloader unlocked" ??
**BE CAREFULL** Many people have bricked there devices flashing a stock ROM when they ran the Super CID hack.
At this point the WISEST course of action I can give you is to use the S-OFF hack available on here, Facepalm S-Off for your device (That does require Super CID) and Root. Once S-Off is set the correct factory ROM for phone won't brick your device.

Installing RUU for HTC One XL (Telstra Branded)

Hi Guys.
I wanted to confrim if I can install any RUU on my HTC One XL with out unlocking the Bootloader or rooting or supercid.
Because in most forums i have had a look at they dont mention if its needed.
In this case i wanted to install the RUU EVITA hTC Asia WWE 2.23.707.2 and wanted to know if its required to perform the above to install the RUU.
Regards
Ruus have 3 simple rules.
1. Bootloader must be locked.
2. Cid must match. Eg WWE is not the same cid as Telstra. You need to supercid or atleast change to Telstra cid.
3. You can not downgrade hboot. The ruu must be equal or newer than your current version.
Point 2 is where you will need root.

The Telstra One XL is currently Bootloader unlockable through htcdev unlike the AT&T One X. This means that we don't have to mess around to get a ROM onto our device. Why you would go to all the trouble of rooting and changing your cid (Which sometimes I've read can wipe out your IMEI and Serial Number?) when you just just unlock your bootloader, flash a recovery and then install any ROM you want.
Thanks guys for your help
I am stuck in a cm10 boot loop. Never got çm sucessufulky flashed. Was on stock deodexed rom prior to attempting cm.
I can get to twrp 2.2.0 recovery and to recovery as well but don't have a backup to flash from twrp.
I was thinking of going back to ruu 1.8.5 but my bootloader is unlocked using HTC Dev.
Any suggestions?

Grab another rom and flash it. Try nocturnals telstra rom and see what you think.
It will be a lot easier than heading back to stock via ruu

how do you flash another rom though without being able to put it on your sd card first? is there a command you can put in command prompt so that the zip shows up in recovery?
from twrp recovery, you can connect the USB and mount SDCard
then connect to computer and copy over the rom
otherwise, you could use adb commands
adb devices (make sure device exists)
adb shell
mount sdcard
Then either
adb push ROM.zip \sdcard\
or copy
AT&T ONE X
Hi,
I have an AT&T one X and i see that i cant use tethered WiFi, I dont use the phone in the USA but here in NZL, is there some way to get around this ? I cant stand the ATT rubbish they put on the phone so im looking for a unbraded rom, but Id prefer a rom which is factory rather than a custom built.

Any of the stock rooted ROMs in Development except AT&T ones have WiFi tethering enabled. You of course need to be bootloader unlocked and custom recovery.

CID

Quick questions!!
My CID is BM__001 (Bell Mobility Canada). It is rooted, unlocked bootloader and CWRM recovery
I want the latest update (4,1 sense and not the 4.0 I'm stuck with and down the line the latest jellybean) WITHOUT a custom rom!
If I change Cid to HTC__001 I have read I can apply the international unbranded RUU and I will get them.
1. Will I have to flash radios or anything of the sort in order to make it work with my network in Canada?
2. What are the advantages of keeping my Bell CID?
3. What are the advantages of CHANGING to the HTC__001 CID?
4. Is it possible without s-off?
Sorry for the noobish questions put couldnt find simple answers to these questions!

If your phone already has the bootloader unlocked and a custom recovery why not just flash a rom?
Thanks for the answer!
Because I want to be able to OTA update without loosing all my data and settings..
With a custom ROM it will be a bit more of a hassle.
1. If I change my CID will I have to flash the RUU or will it do it by itself?

You would have to run a RUU with the one you would like to receive future updates from. This will relock your bootloader so you would have to unlock it again through htcdev.

[Q] How to Debrand M4

Hi All
I have a totally stock M4 4.2.2 phone from Voda UK
(it has the boot logo from Voda along with pre-loaded network apps)
I just want to make it a stock European version...(UK ideally) with no network logos or apps
End wish is a stock 4.4.4 with root (ideally towelroot or similar) so if I want to...I can unroot and leave untouched/stock
As stated...no htcdev done or anything with unlocking bootloader
Advice please?

I'm afraid that once you go root ( unless you only use temproot ) you can't go back to absolute stock.
To "transform" it to a European version you'll have to do Super CID, which requires unlocked bootloader & s-off.

Well.. What about..
S-Off....
SuperCiD
flash with stock European rom
Set CID back to the European one...(so it doesn't brick)
Re-lock the bootloader
S-On
That way... I have a stock European Rom 4.4.4 on a stock One Mini
?

Not entirely.
If I'm not mistaken ( I'm not a phone freak, just a computer hardware engineer & mediocre software programmer ) you can't re-lock the bootloader like stock.
It displays "Re-Locked" once locked again with fastboot or another tool.
You'll have a stock image, but you won't have the applications that are preloaded in the data partition which gets erased during the Bootloader unlocking process, and that blocks you from flashing any newer OTA updates via the classic method ( like a totally stock phone )

I have s-off, now what? ROM suggestions? Upgrade firmware?

So I have s-off now but I'm not sure what to do about the firmware. It's running 1.27.502.5 but I don't know how to upgrade the firmare. The roms I see seem to require it. Is there a rom anyone recomends for my phone as is? Or upgrade?

Is your phone international or US?
If it IS us and not unlocked, see this thread to upgrade to firmware 1.57: http://forum.xda-developers.com/one...nvert-to-htc-usa-unlocked-1-12-t3271861/page8
Then, you can flash caynogenmod, or mokee ROM.
You can also use a tutorial I made to flash a new splash screen to match your custom boot animation:

it is US but I have unlocked the bootloader to root. Or are you talking about sim unlocked? Sorry, I haven't rooted a phone since the m7 years ago.

Did you buy it from a carrier or from HTC.com as unlocked? If it can pre-sim unlocked, you can flash the most recent firmware (as ruu). Only then will you be able to run CyanogenMod or mokee (ROM)

Converting AT&T carrier unlocked HTC One A9 from stock 1.27.502.5 to Nougat

Hey All,
Apologies if this is obvious but I couldn't figure it out myself looking at the FAQ's etc.
I just purchased a new HTC One A9 which was carrier unlocked by AT&T, and I want to convert from the RUU version they use (1.27.502.5) to the latest version that HTC has released on their website - 2.18.617.10 .
However, when I go to do this using that RUU, I get signature error 132. My phone is bootloader locked and S-ON, but from reading a little, I thought that shouldn't matter because I have a US phone, and you only need to change the CID/MID stuff (whatever those are) if you're in a different region?
How would I go about doing this? From reading through a bunch of posts, do I first need to switch to an unlocked version of Marshmallow, before then upgrading to Nougat?
Edit: Upon further reading, does the fact that the 502 in my current version does not match 617 in the one I wish to upgrade to mean that I can't do this with S-on? Do I need S-off? If so, how do I do that? Is it only by purchasing sunshine?
Thank you for your time!
Best,
-BBsmitz

In order to convert to another carrier version, you must change your CID and MID to match the RUU version you want to flash. .617 uses the same MID as .502 so you'll need to change your CID only from CWS__001 to BS_US001. Changing CID does requires S-OFF (Sunshine is the best way unless you know someone with a XTC2Clip box).
You'll also need to update your firmware to Nougat before flashing the Nougat RUU because of the signature change implemented in Nougat.

Okay thanks so much Two more quick questions.
1) Does changing to S-off have any consequences in terms of a future update? I'm guessing it will void my warranty, but say I wanted to go back to using AT&T's version of android. Would the fact that my phone is now S-off prevent me from using their RUU (assuming I change the CID back.) I guess my question is, warranty aside, is there really any negative to turning S-off?
2) This is more out of curiosity. HTC One Phones that were sold unlocked/developer that are currently running Marshmallow can be upgraded to Nougat without flashing the firmware to 2.xx.xxx.x right? So if I was to change my current CID to that of a developer One A9, and install that Marshamallow RUU say (1.57.617.60), why wouldn't I be able to simply update from within the OS as they do?
Thanks again for your time.
Best,

S-off gives you full control and access to all partitions which mean there is no more mechanism preventing you to flash incompatible software/firmware on your phone. Once s-off, be sure to understand what you're doing before flashing files. The risk is limited if you'll only be converting to another version or flashing custom roms but if you're going to explore a little deeper yeah it can be dangerous.

All A9 can simply be updated from the OS, not only the unlocked/dev version. The reason why you need to flash the firmware first before flashing a RUU is that HTC changed their encryption signature in Nougat. That mean your phone need the new decryption key to be able to flash Nougat RUU. Flashing the firmware first will update your phone with the new key, making it able to flash Nougat RUU.
There is a firmware.zip file inside ota updates. When you install an ota update from the OS, the first thing that is flashed on your phone is that firmware.zip. So no you don't need to manually flash the firmware because it's done automatically in the ota process.
Yes you could flash the 1.57.617.30 ruu and do the ota update after. It's just faster to flash the Nougat firmware first and the Nougat RUU instead of flashing the Marshmallow RUU and downloading + installing 2 ota udpates, well that's my opinion. Both methods will give the same result.

Edit2: I figured out the problem. I had to boot into the bootloader and then run
Code:
htc_fastboot oem rebootRUU
before I could run the RUU sucessfully. Am leaving the rest of this post up just so that other people googling this have a touch point.
Okay so I've used Sunshine to turn s-off and unlock my bootloader. I then changed my CID to BS_US001.
I then tried to install the HTC version of Marshmallow (maybe silly, but heard people having issues with Nougat and the battery) using the RUU.exe file. It started successfully, but then halfway though, after it had transferred the ROM over, it threw an ERROR155 and aborted, leaving my phone with an empty progress bar, and that circular green arrow icon in the middle. I used the command line to restart my device and had to factory wipe it, but otherwise not the worse for wear.
I tried googling it; do I need to relock my bootloader for the RUU.exe files to work? I think the Sunshine FAQ recommended against doing that. Is this a risky step?
Edit: Here are some instructions I found from the HTC One M8 firmware flashing thread. My error says "unknown" but I imagine its similar.
For “Error 155 relock bootloader" do:
- Since my thread works only with S-OFF phones anyway, this error can be read as: you need to S-OFF first!
- Error 155 can mean that you need SuperCID. On a few occasions this was shown when the RUU/FUU refused to run because of a wrong region lock.
- Lately, Error 155 has occurred when a FUU was launched from within android. When encountering a FUU error 155 with the process stalling after the rebootRUU (stuck at black screen with silver HTC logo), please just restart the FUU and leave the phone in that mode, or reboot the phone, then reboot to bootloader, then do “htc_fastboot oem rebootRUU” and then launch the FUU again (thanks @anarchychris for pointing it out).
- run the fastboot command “htc_fastboot oem lock" - only applies to S-ON phones that want to update the firmware with a stock OTA package (not offered on this thread!!). Stock OTA files sometimes need a locked bootloader.
