I went to do the update last night for the first time, I tether off my phone for everything at home so this is my only Internet access. Ota won't download on data, laptop needs to be connected to Internet when firmware already downloaded and prepared, when it reboot the phone to flash it looks for Internet access or no flash. Anyone know a work around for that? I searched and Google but didn't find the answer I need.
Do you have a spare phone you could use as the hotspot?
The only other way I can think of, is to use Flashtool to flash the .ftf file.

its been awhile since I had a Sony

Flashing ftf doesn't unlock bootloader and flashtool doesn't need an unlocked bootloader.

Use this:
www/waledacdroid/com /2013/07/how-to-root-xperia-l-c2104c2105-jelly/html
(it's not letting me post the full link properly, so the two '/' in the beginning should be replaced by '.' and delete the space between the 'com' and the third '/' and make the '/' at the end a '.' also)
Looks like it will work for sure.
Try it out, let us know how it goes.

rooting has nothing to do with locked bootloaders. First, those instructions only work on the old ROM. .17 needs a different root method.
Without an unlocked bootloader, the phone won't boot an unofficial kernel, and thus no CWM for ROM's. Your stuck with the official .36 or .17 unless Sony releases an update for us. Some carriers don't allow bootloader unlocking, some do.

What is .17? The build number?? If it is, I have .31.
So if I use this thing, what will happen?
Check the whole build number from about phone in settings menu.and you can root your phone with motochopper method

Phone says I can unlock bootloader flasstool says I can not there is nothing wrong with flashtool if sony could make a rom with out all the bloat ware and crappy apps your never going to use we would not need to unlock the bootloader.
Might be a driver problem (it is on mine just not worked out how to sort it yet)did you enter the code in the phone to check if it can be unlocked?

This happens because you have not installed the drivers from flashtools. I faced the same issue at the start. If you phone say bootloader unlock allowed and even after installing the drivers from the flashtools folder n flashtools it say not allowed .then you can uninstall flash tools and install it agan wiht proper guidence. :good:

Hi
I just got my phone, but missing the benefits of rooting.
Can anyone tell me how to unlock the bootloader and then root my phone?
Found a lot of links, but not sure which are secure and not to use.
Here's where you go to unlock your bootloader - http://developer.sonymobile.com/unlockbootloader/unlock-yourboot-loader/
Once unlocked, you can flash root or do whatever at that point.
Warning though, you will lose your DRM keys in this process, if you don't know what that means, do some research

You need root to backup DRM keys.
You cant get root without unlocking the bootloader yet.
Youll lose DRM keys when you unlock the bootloader.
If you cant take losing your DRM keys do not unlock and root.

Last question. I got Samsung before and I was able to update my phone with Kies after rooting. Is their any way to update Sony devices when rooted?
Thanks
Flashtool or PC Companion. I prefer the latter.

You sure? As the DRM keys doesn't matter for me, as I don't really use the camera a lot.
But when I unlock bootloader on Sonys website, it tells me I would not be able to get updates from that. But i'm still able to get them with the PC companion?
Just to make sure, as I really want android 5.0 when it comes out.

You can't update with PC companion if you have unlocked your booloader. Your phone will be bricked!

No way to know for sure until someone tries. But with the Z2, you just have to relock your bootloader (might need to revert to a stock kernel first) and then software updates work fine.

There will always be FTF files shared on XDA and you can use flashtool with an unlocked bootloader.

There is no need to spam multiple topics.
YES, it can be done. NO, we can't tell you how because you didn't post your phone model or Android version.

Hej robogo1982, jesi dobio moju poruku u privat?
Hello!
I bought a phone, with unlocked bootloader and root. Z3 D6603
I dont know exactly how the previous owner unlocked BL etc.
But I flashed it to 23.1.A.1.28 lolli, fixed super SU and dualrecovery.
The thing is, I now want to return it to stock, so that i can get OTA updates by Sony Companion, and i have no idea how to do so.
Searched the forums, and found a lot of info, but I dont want to brick or ruin anything.
Do I need to flash stock firmware without root, remove dualrecovery or relock BL, or maybe all of it?
I posted this earlier, and im not sure if I explained it right, I said I wanted a step by step guide.
What I meant was a guideline in what ORDER to do stuff, not how to do them.
Is it enough to relock the bootloader, and then use Sony Companion to update, or do I need to flash something, maybe go back to original recovery first?
Help is sincerely appreciated !
PS: Sorry for posting again, but I dont know how to change the headline/bump the post, and need this done ASAP, or else I wont have a working phone in a few days. ( Change of sim card)

Nothing. If it is unlocked and you dont have backup of original TA partition. There is no help. You can't get you DRM keys back and without them you cant relock to original state. And majority of Sony stock fw simply doesnt provide OTA for unlocked bootloaders, except for the new Sony Concept ROM.
You may try to download Androxyde Flashtool as it provides relock function, however it doesnt restore TA. If it brings OTA back not sure, because I always backup my TA so just try it.

I own an M2 D2303. I've rooted it with Towelroot, so I'm stuck with Jellybean for now and am thinking of upgrading to Lollipop. I rooted mainly to delete bloatware and some stock Sony apps that I thought were useless. I haven't done any modification other than that (e.g. flashing custom ROMs).
I've found an FTF file for update 18.6.A.0.175. My main concern right now is if this will be safe to flash with Flashtool. I've seen some tutorials for flashing that warn me to backup IMEI information before flashing, but those are usually for if people want to flash custom ROMs rather than stock ROMs. So, are there any extra precautions I really have to take (besides backing up the data on my phone...also, would the stock Backup & Restore app suffice?), or will this generally be a safe process?
Flashing you need an unlocked bootloader too not just root,
Make sure you have 50+% battery and the USB connection on your phone and pc is good also do not use your phone or pc especially the USB ports during this period also it's good to get an exact backup of every thing
You do not need unlocked bootloader to use flashtool or be rooted for that matter. Flashtool will work on totally stock devices. totally the wrong information for sonys EMMA software you need unlocked bootloader which is totally different to flashtool

Thank you very much for the response
Just clarifying that I am indeed not talking about Sony's EMMA but Androxyde's Flashtool. So will this be safe for my phone then? Would it really be necessary to still back up IMEI or take any other precautions?
Sorry, I'm just really clueless right now and I'm worried I might do something wrong.
As the title says, I'm wondering how to remove the demo software from a few live demo units i've gotten my hands on.
I'm gonna give it to my kid to use around the house to play games and such.
The bootloader unlock is allowed, and just wondering how to go about doing this.
I'm a noob to rooting in general, but I rooted and custom rommed a Samsung S2 and a HTC M9 many moons ago, so I understand some of the basics.
I know I could send it out to a phone workshop to get them to remove the demo software, but they want 40£ to do the job.
Too expensive If I could do it myself.
So, where do I start? What do I need to do first?
Unlock the bootloader, then root the phone? What comes afterwards?

No. Flashing Offically Signed Firmware is possible without any Unlock.
Must be Signed by Sony ofc.
