How to remove Demo software from XZ. - Sony Xperia XZ Questions & Answers

As the title says, I'm wondering how to remove the demo software from a few live demo units i've gotten my hands on.
I'm gonna give it to my kid to use around the house to play games and such.
The bootloader unlock is allowed, and just wondering how to go about doing this.
I'm a noob to rooting in general, but I rooted and custom rommed a Samsung S2 and a HTC M9 many moons ago, so I understand some of the basics.
I know I could send it out to a phone workshop to get them to remove the demo software, but they want 40£ to do the job.
Too expensive If I could do it myself.
So, where do I start? What do I need to do first?
Unlock the bootloader, then root the phone? What comes afterwards?

Thats it? no unlocking bootloader and so on?

No. Flashing Offically Signed Firmware is possible without any Unlock.
Must be Signed by Sony ofc.

2.3 rootable? Maybe not? Who knows....

Has anyone thought that maybe google has made 2.3 unrootable? Scary thought i know, but its kind of like a cat and mouse game with the developers and google/manufacturers with root patches.
Maybe google finally will put the nail in the coffin here?
WOOT. It's rooted, im happily wrong.
It's a developer phone, so why would Google want to make devs waste time trying to root.
could it be possible that Google enable root access by default, then?

Definately not.
Dev phones have always been rootable, i doubt that will change.
The phones that have trouble being rooted are always manufacture customized ones.
it's still able to fastboot oem unlock from what i've heard. Will be rooted same day it's available for purchase guaranteed.

I'd bet that it will be rooted BEFORE!
The developer build on my Nexus One is already rooted. I don't imagine the release build will be any different from all of the previous OTAs.

You are correct.
Samsung never locked their (Android?) phones. Personally I've installed custom ROMs on the Galaxy Spica and international S and both came factory unlocked. Unlike with some of HTC's devices you can flash anything you want without using exploits.

Your right, as of now I don't think Samsung locked any of their phones, but the only thing Samsung has on this phone is the hardware aspect. All the software aspect is by Google.

Then how do you explain threads like this (on the samsung galaxy sub forums):
[HOWTO] [REF] [FAQ] [Guides] [Tutorials] Flash/Root/ADB/ROM [MUST READ!]
It seems like you have carrier/sim lock and root confused. Just like nearly every phone on the market, they are locked. You will also need root to do anything that says "please root your phone". They do not ship this way...
I'm sure it will be rootable... Google doesn't want to block out developers
Just food for thought i guess, we cant know until its released anyways.
What exactly is fastboot oem unlock ?

that's unlocked for carriers with gsm...that's not root. Simply meaning it will work with at&t or tmobile by changing the sim card. Root lets you edit system files and a custom recovery to flash roms
Lmao no one so far in this thread should get one of these developer phones as you plainly do not understand what you are doing here when it comes to deciding what the difference is between root permissions and unlocked to all networks.
lets put it this way, if you are one of the above who are having trouble, dream on and steer clear from the prospects of rooting all together
unless that is you fancy yourself a very expensive paperweight?

This command unlocks your bootloader on the N1/N-S allowing you to flash custom roms, but visibly voids your warranty (bootloader screen shows that it's unlocked)

[Q] How do I root my Sony Xperia Z3 d6603?

Hi
I just got my phone, but missing the benefits of rooting.
Can anyone tell me how to unlock the bootloader and then root my phone?
Found a lot of links, but not sure which are secure and not to use.
Here's where you go to unlock your bootloader - http://developer.sonymobile.com/unlockbootloader/unlock-yourboot-loader/
Once unlocked, you can flash root or do whatever at that point.
Warning though, you will lose your DRM keys in this process, if you don't know what that means, do some research

You need root to backup DRM keys.
You cant get root without unlocking the bootloader yet.
Youll lose DRM keys when you unlock the bootloader.
If you cant take losing your DRM keys do not unlock and root.

Last question. I got Samsung before and I was able to update my phone with Kies after rooting. Is their any way to update Sony devices when rooted?
Thanks

You sure? As the DRM keys doesn't matter for me, as I don't really use the camera a lot.
But when I unlock bootloader on Sonys website, it tells me I would not be able to get updates from that. But i'm still able to get them with the PC companion?
Just to make sure, as I really want android 5.0 when it comes out.

You can't update with PC companion if you have unlocked your booloader. Your phone will be bricked!

No way to know for sure until someone tries. But with the Z2, you just have to relock your bootloader (might need to revert to a stock kernel first) and then software updates work fine.

There will always be FTF files shared on XDA and you can use flashtool with an unlocked bootloader.

Take a look in the development section
In need of some help, I wanted to root my z3 again, I've downgraded back to .77 but completely forgot how I done it last time, I created a few pre-rooted flashables (.77, .690 & .726) but I'm having trouble finding how to install custom recovery.. Any help would be greatly appreciated

YES, it can be done. NO, we can't tell you how because you didn't post your phone model or Android version.

I'm not talking about root. I'm talking about unlocking the bootloader so you can flash modified kernels and what not.

Ok. SO how do i know if it´s unlocked? Because i bought this s6 used....
The problem is the Verizon S6 family is currently unable to have modified bootloader files as no one has found a way to change them with or without tripping Knox, the security suite on our phones. Hell, everything updated past Firmware update OF1 isn't even rooted yet and no one is sure when or if we will even have one. Basically what I'm saying is, there is no way for you to get the international ROM onto your phone unless you just happened to either crack the system yourself or the person you got it from managed to find a way without telling the world about it.
Word of advice, you can have a phone that is rooted with a flashed ROM but still have a locked bootloader. In our case it was due to an exploit that was patched.

You people are foolish even more than me. I wanna abuse you but can't.
If your device shows Bootloader status unlocked allowed 'yes'
Then goto unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com
And select device modle and enter emi number and fu+k yourself and get an unlock code.
And use experifirm to flash any regions firmware even global too.

Please keep your temperament low, Mister.
And thank you for "misguiding" people. I unlocked bootloader, downloaded a ton of roms and none would flash. Each one of them results in errors. Downloaded any custom roms available, most go into bootloop while some wont install even.
Relocked bootloader and still wont install OTAs so I am stuck with stock MM with no possibility of getting Nougat because on SO-01H Nougat update is OTA only and there is no FTF available anywhere.
Thanks again. And please dont swear on public forums.

Thats OK.
I have no idea what jeffal jetwari is, but rest assured your advice was acted upon and it made me lose too many hours trying to fix it. No ftf's for other variants work, not even the global version, no custom roms work and there is really not much of a benefit having unlocked the bootloader. So please only advise on something you have experienced personally.

Question [Q] Why do we need to unlock the bootloader before rooting?

hi! so i just bought my rog phone 5, coming from xperia z (yeah i know). so based on my experience using xperia phone, rooting doesnt require unlocked bootloader, right? or did i just forget it coz im using custom roms?
im just not ready to unlock the bootloader and I WANT ROOT. theres so many ads

AFAIK, unlocking bl is a prerequisite for rooting. Or else, the device wouldn't be able to execute 'fastboot flash' or 'fastboot boot' adb commands.
As for the ad issue, try 'dns.adguard.com' w/o quotes as private dns address (dns over tls).
because you need to modify the boot partition by flashing the patched boot. hence it has to be unlocked. otherwise you will not be able to flash the patched boot.
as simple as this.
By default, the bootloader only supports official signed images from the manufacturer. Since no engineering bootloader is available and we don't have the signing tools, the next best thing is to disable the restriction.
thanks everyone! this sure cleared things up. anyway is there a available custom rom? like cyanogenmod for phone 5?
