Z5 blinks red notification led then backlit turned on and off repeatedly - Xperia Z5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was just uninstalling some apps when the phone frozed and (a few seconds later) suddenly, the screen turned off and the notification led behaves like this: 700,OFF,700,OFF,700,OFF,3000 (in ms)(OFF is 700ms) then the backlit came on with a black screen and then turn off,on,off,on,off then finally restarted itself and everything was fine(or should be). So what happened there?

I've also seen some reports on Sony forum that connected this issue to SD card. My bet is that you have just installed some problematic apps.

I doubt it was the apps as I have 0 issue with anything until I was uninstalling some apps. And what's with the led blinking like morse code?

I have found that if the Facebook app in on the SD card on my device then it causes this to happen. If you have Facebook installed on your SD delete it and reinstall it to device storage. This fixed the problem for me.

I uninstalled facebook when I got it so no facebook, not facebook. Facebook is not causing it. I hope someone knows a fix or an update to fix it. And what does the led mean? The led is not flashing constantly, I think it means something.

S7 and S7 Edge Micro SD / Eject Notification Issue

I sent my S7 to a Samsung authorized service repair center. Verdict: They need to replace the motherboard. Its officially an hardware issue, thus not affecting all devices. The ones that are affected needs replacement/or motherboard replacement. When they replace the motherboard, they have (no choice) to also replace the screen. Cost CDN 690$.
Its all over the web. Small number of units are affected though.
I wounder why Samsung just don't send me a new phone as their cost for a new device is around 240$ USD.
Can you describe more of your issue? I'm also getting a microsd/eject notification on every boot, but it can be cleared away and my microsd is usable/shown in settings->storage.
That's not a problem. Swipe it away and it's gone. It's a notification. Means nothing to performance. Why would that be means for a new motherboard. Does your card not read?
Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
On a reboot this is totally normal since the phone stops reading the sim as well as the SD. And then reconnect everything. My issue was that the notification was randomly coming back even when the phone was not rebooted. Plus, when I was accessing my music and /or pictures, the phone was sometimes freezing in the middle. Then I had to reboot. Then my music /pictures from SD was working for a while, then freezing again. No it was not just a swipe away fix. If the notification randomly comes back when the phone it means that the phone stopped reading it for a second /micro second and then reading it again (like if I had remove the tray and re introducing it.

See above reply. No it was a motherboard issue.

I, too have this problem. When the sd card is unavailable, my apps that I store there are also unavailable.
Is this a bug? Will Samsung fix this?

S7 Frezzes and black screens

Hey everyone,
I have the problem, that my S7 frezzes in irregular situations and then there is no interaction possible. The display is always black and just the Softkeys and the LED is pulsation.
To solve this issue I try to reboot my phone with combination of the Vol- + Power and Home Button. Sometimes I get into the Download Mode, and reboot the phone from there.
After the reboot of my phone the black screen is away and my device is working well again. But after a few minutes is it not possible to activate or deactivate the WLAN. Therefore I reboot my phone again. When I am rebooting now the phone I noticed that the phone does not shut down correctly. After a short vibration the softkeys are active again and the blue LED is plusating. To solve this issue I try to reboot the phone again with the combination of Vol- + Power and Home Button. Moreover I noticed in the settings that my device shows instead of "offical" the word "custom" in those situations.
MY DEVICE IS NOT ROOTED OR HAS OTHER MODIFIKATIONS!
After deleting the cache partition in the stock-recovery the device is rebooting again and everything works fine. The settings shows now the status "official" again.
My phone is always on the newest firmeware and patches:
Model: SM-G930F
Android-Version: 6.0.1
Basebandversion: G930FXXU1APEQ
Kernelversion: 3.18.14-8206888
Buildnumber: MMB29K.G930FXXU1APGG
Android-Patches: 1. July 2016
PhoneInfo says:
CSC-Code: VIA (O2)
Bootloader-Version: G930FXXU1APGG
PDA-Version: G930FXXU1APGG
CSC-Version: G930FTEF1APG1
Basebandversion: G930FXXU1APEQ
I think the reason for my black screens and frezzes is a corruptive firmware and it is not fixed yet from the Samsung updates.
I exclude a defective hardware for the reason that the device works normally after the restart and if the display would be really broken anything would not work.
Do you think I could be apps that let my S7 crashes so much? I have installed Spotify, Facebook, WhatsApp, Snapchat, Instagram, GearVR, Twitter, YouTube, Google Apps and LinkedIn.
I am thinking about installing a Custom ROM to eliminate the problems. Can someone who also had a Black Screen confirm, whether the problems are away with a custom ROM?
Thank you very much for helpful responses!

My advise would be to flash stock firmware via Odin and perform a factory reset. But first make a back-up of your important files from the device.
Hey,
I have found a new perspective to get a solution of this problem!
Today I used my Spotify App und then after a few songs my WLAN turned off. I tried to turn it on again, but i seemed to be frezzed and does not responding.
For a solution I tried to reboot my phone and then it stucked on shutting down.
So I rebooted by the combination of Vol- + Home + Power and got into the Download mode. Form there I restarted my phone.
I had this issue 2 times today and can reproduce it!
--> So I think Spotify has a huge bug!
Can someone, who has the same issue try to remove Spotify form the phone and give me a feedback?

Since I removed Spotify from my phone last week, I had no problems yet.
Do you have tried the same and can give me a feedback if it worked for you too?
In my opinion it is no SD-Card problem. Spotify on SD-Card could be the problem.
Does someone know, how I could prove that?
Ok guys I reinstalled the Spotify App form Google Play Store (Version 6.0) and got the problem again. But this time just my whole systemUI crashed and my phone did not respond. I am glad there was no black screen.
But it seems there is a big problem in the Spotify App!
As an experiment I downloaded one of my playlists and saved it on the SD-Card. Do you think that could be the problem?
I save all my pics from the camera also on SD-Cad and had no problem anytime. In the time when Spotify was not installed on my phone I had no issues!!
Does someone has an Idea what I can do to fix that problem?

I'm also experiencing random freezes when I wake the screen. I can replicate the issue with and without Spotify installed. I tried factory reset many times but no luck and this also happen in safe mode. I contacted Samsung but they said, they have not heard about this before. I'm pretty sure it's a software issue, but not sure what causing it
Any ideas?
Sounds like you've got a faulty device. My first did something similar

After some Software Updates including some bugfixes my device worked for 1 year without any new problems of freezes or black screens.
I think all those problems are based on buggy Software coming from Samsung.....

Do you use micro sd card?
I'm having the exact same issue after using the google photos app in combination of the samsung gallery app. After a while pictures stop loading and the phone starts getting really slow. If i just press the power button the screen goes off. But i can't get it to go on again except powerbutton + volume down reset. I've been thinking about it aswell, and the sd card must be the problem here. But it has worked perfectly fine for months and even in previous phones. But recently i've been on a trip and made all my pictures with my s7. I made like 30gigs worth of pictures. Either the gallery app has somekind of memory leak or my sd card is wonky.

Which SD-Card do you use?
Have you tried the App "Quick Pic" (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.alensw.PicFolder&hl=de). Maybe it solves your problem!

Yes, i use Micro sd card Lexar 128gb 1000x UHS-II.
But maybe i found the problem, today no "freeze deep sleep" after i uninstall Samsung Music Player downloaded from Playstore. I hope this is the problem, i try it for other two day and after i'll tell you
My sd card is sandisk 64G
I've run a few tests on it to check if something is wrong with the sd card. Its just fine.
My phone actually can't even wake up with home button however, so i think it might be different problem.
I want to use Google photos, but it isn't able to remove pictures from the sd card. Thats why i use the stock samsung gallery app. But i'm sure one of those apps is making my phone crash.
It doesn't happen right away. If I keep scrolling down the pictures stop loading instantly and it starts to go insanely slow, thats when it will crash ... if i turn of the screen it won't come up again no matter what (except force reboot).

Why don't you try without the SD card for a while to see if the problem disappears?
Maybe there is an issue with the SD card and it scans it every time it wakes from deep sleep.

Maybe it is a Software-Problem by Spotify that hurts my phone deep in the system.

S7 black screen problem

Hi,
I just got this s7 for 3 days and i have this problem where the screen wont turn on but the phone still is active.
A hard boot will fix it but its only a temp fix because i had this problem 4 times now in 3 days.
I didn't root it nor did i install any weird apps outside the google play store, i disabled a couple of bloat ware apps like all microsoft apps and a few google apps like hangouts and gmail.
I did some research and found out that more people have this problem but all the fixes they got it to wipe the cache but the phone still has the problem after that so i would like to know if more people on xda have this problem and i would like to know what they did to their phone so i can see if we have anything in common to pin point the problem.
See if the setting for preventing the phone to turn on in your pocket is enabled. If so, try disabling it and see if that works. It may be a problem with the proximity sensor if it's a hardware issue.
Thanks for the reply and i have that setting indeed turned on! So ill switch if off right now and lets hope this will fix it!
Seems like turning off that feature didn't work
If you have an SD remove it or format it. I had this on kitkat because of too many files in internal memory
Think i found the problem because i think its fixed. While restoring my old settings like wifi etc from my ggole account caused this problem and now that i skipped this part in the setup the phone seems to be working now for 2 days perfectly but thanks for the reply and help.
Woot, I have fixed the problem!!!!! Its the App Power Saving Feature that causes this!!! I had some app set to "always" and when i used any of these app and then put the phone in standby then it would lock up every now and then. Now that i have turned off this setting the phone runs steady for a week!

Is your phone still working fine without blackscreens?
I've got the same issue (sometimes 4 times in an hour, sometimes it doesn't happen for 2 days..!!).
I've tried fixing by doing a factory reset and turning app power saving mode off.
Unfortunately this did not fix the problem. Yesterday I got an unresponsive blackscreen again :crying:
Any ideas what could fix the problem?
(Ignore my signature, I'm writing about the S7, not the S6)

Yea, mine is working like it should now for 3 weeks.

(Nevermind) External storage (SDcard) do not shows up in "documents UI"

I just received the phone today so I'm still getting used to it, but even when I check the option to show external storage, no third party app can see it. It just disappears. Seems to be an OS bug, not sure if I can do anything about it, but very annoying.
Never mind, I reboot the phone and it's working now. Strange. It seems have various weird bugs, like PlayStore closing/minizing itself after each app install.

Great that you fixed the issue by yourself .
But platstore auto close is not a bug actually . platstore opens the installed app automatically which makes u feel it auto minimized
