Hi,
I'm facing a serious issue with OPO's battery. Don't know exactly when this started to happen, but I'll give you as much details as I can.
Few days ago I was unplugging OPO from charger around 8PM with 100% battery, I felt asleep and in the morning, 12 hours later (around 8AM) the battery indicator still at 100%. I thought this is awesome battery because I turn on Wi-Fi and sync on, even though I don't touch the OPO even single time before 8AM. Few hours later battery drops normally, around 1% to 3% per hour. Until it reaches 50% to 60% when OPO turns off suddenly. When I plug the charger back, I read that battery level is too low so I can't turn on the device. But a few minutes later (still charging) I can turn on it again and strangely battery level is still at 60%. this cycle keeps happening when I charge it back to 100%, later it will turns off again around 50%-60%.
Yesterday I brought my OPO to a repair service branch in Jakarta, Indonesia and I specifically ask to replace the battery with a new one. But their representative rejects it and offer to take it around 3 weeks for repairs, with the risk of losing all my data (I guess because they want to factory reset my OPO). So I reject it (seriously 3 weeks?) and brought it back home.
I have this feeling that it's a hardware issue (the battery itself) rather than software issues. Because it's happen a long way after I upgraded OPO to Lollipop (forgot the codename) and still happen on the latest OTA release. OPO itself is not rooted and I use stock CM ROM.
Seriously need help. Thanks in advance and sorry for my bad English.

hi there, we got same problem here.
my baterry is stuck at 100%.
and would suddenly turnoff at 40-60% .
i think this is not a hardware issue,
but software indicator issue.
hope someone will answer our problem here.
i ever read that we should let it charge without turn on the phone for over 3-6 hour,
they said it would reset the batery indicator.
i haven't test it yet.
if it work, please inform me.
sorry for my bad english too~
I got you both covered.
It's just the calibration problem.
You need to be rooted for this. Go to /data/system/batterystats.bin and delete the file. Turn off your phone and charge it uninterruptedly. Done!
Or
You can use a battery calibration App, both of them work the same way. But you need to be rooted. Cheers!
Attaching a screenshot of the file.

hi somebody, i am having a problem with my O2 xda2 mini, i've been using it for over an year, what happens is it switches off automatically, while battery is still over 10%, and i cannot switch on it, it justs fades and fades to darkness, when i only connect to external power it come, help me let me know what i should do. pls
how abt charging the battery when it reaches at 20%!! why u letting ur battery reach 10%? u can charge it whenevr u want. the Li ion battery does not have a memory effect. u can top it whenevr u want..
Magician is not supposed to run dry. Also, AFAIK, I think Li ions aren't supposed to be run dry, damaging I think.
Magician will automatically shut down extraneous functions to save battery and preserve sufficient juice to maintain memory for a few hours despite your efforts.

i know, but there might be instances that i might not be able to charge but i think 10% is more than enough if i am not making any calls or not doing anything with my magician. anyway i'll recheck my battery if i need to change i'll do so.
asinan: you might think 10% is enough, but Microsoft don't. And for good reason.

So buy a new battery has solved ur problem?
I had this on my Magician too. At about 30% or so... I bought a new battery and sold the device right away, so I never found out if that solved the problem. But...
I have switched to a Mio device, and on their site under Support, I found some interesting info. If you fully discharge before recharging, the battery will live for 300 charges. If you recharge at 30%, it will live for 20.000+ recharges! It doesn't get any clearer than that!
May not be a battery problem
I'm having similar problems. Initially it goes off when the battery level drops below 50%. I bought a new battery and even at 99% the device goes off. Now I have to press and hold the 'ON' button for it to boot up. I am taking it for repairs since I am convinced it is not really a battery problem.
we have the same problem .. any help ?
I got the same problem, but I solve it myself, don know it work with your phone ornot
A day, I take off the back cover of battery when it is working, device off. Then it is on normal, but some time, it turn of automatically. I try to make the back cover and the back of device clean and take of the protect film of LCD, then now, it work OK. I am lucky
Please let us know the outcome of your repair. We have the same issue at 40% and I am not sure whether a new battery will solve the problem

Ive just changed to a new battery and found out that my old battery was swollen up a bit on the surface. Comparing to the new battery, the surface was flat. So if you have the same problem, maybe you should check your battery shape and condition first.
Good luck.
Hi all,
I am reading forum for a while.
I have purchased sensation 2 weeks ago (used one) and its full stock.
In my best i can get 12h from battery. 3-6 calls cca 5min, maybe 5min of surfing on wifi, 3g off, screen on 10%,...
And i turned off all sync and so (like i sad i read forum)
Next is Anker battery.
what do you recommend next?
and my friend and also have stock sensation and get day and half in light use...
Tnx to all
sorry for my eng, not using often
I bought an Anker battery set from Amazon for around £20 GBP it came with 2 Anker 1900mAH batteries and a charger so you can have the spare charging while not in use.
Since using the Anker batteries I have noticed a big improvement, I am able to have the screen at a usuable brightness and can happy use it for a full day without having to worry about pluggin my phone in ever chance I can.

DEFINITELY Anker ! It's AWESOME.
With battery life that poor I'd say something is draining it far more than it should. When I first got my Sensation the sync icon was constantly on and the battery would just plummet, turned out that HTC Watch was constantly syncing and I had to remove the Watch account.
Go to Settings -> About phone -> Battery -> Battery Use and tap on the graph, if the Awake bar is blue consistently more than the Screen bar then you have a rogue app draining the battery.
so i order anker battery yesterday. ( i hope it will arrive soon)
today i was talking with guy in phone shop and in his opinion battery should last 2 days at least (none to light use)
and that my problem could be in software
any suggestion?
My Sensation XE has also experienced rapid battery loss since yesterday, such that from charging it maybe once day, I'm now needing to charge it twice or more per day. I purchased an App yesterday, which I discovered was then running constantly, so I unisnatlled that today. However, I was still experiencing fairly rapid battery loss, so I had a look for more running Apps which were using fairly large percentage of power, and uninstalled those which I decided I didn't need - but it seems that I may still have a rogue power-consuming App.
Any ideas on identifying it?

Use a custom ROM.
Batterly life was pretty poor for myself on the stock ROM as well, but after rooting and using custom made ones, it's a hell of a lot better.

That's Android 4.0.1, overclocked Kernel...
To install this anker battery do I need any special cover for it or does it use the same stock cover?
It works with the stock cover. Same dimensions as the normal battery.
i was testing last night to what is draining my battery and
when i woke up first i had to insert card pin (???) and then showed 45% left after 10h being on and half of that time without signal because of sim card.
sim car is brand new...?!
I'm not sure if this is just my personal experiences, but I can sometimes solve fast draining battery cases by just rebooting the phone. I suspect that in those cases it's some (rogue?) app that's running in the background or was improperly terminated that's causing the problem.
Also I've read that WiFi uses more power on standby than 2/3g, thus if you don't plan on using WiFi at any time it would be a good idea to shut it off until you do. Also phones that are constantly searching for cell signals drain batteries significantly, thus if you're in a place with crappy reception, your battery will in turn suffer as well.
just my noob .02

my anker battery has arrived few days ago and its miles better than the stock one
but i left last night phone on and this morning its off and i couldnt start
i put it on charger and nothing

brand new anker battery... i am so fu**** mad because last time i was looking it was 43% battery left....
Running Stock ICS 4.1.2 on Nexus S i9020A on AT&T US.
The battery was fine till about a few months back, but of late, it is draining @ around 8-10% per hour on standby!. I originally thought JB was causing the drain, and switched to ICS, and finally to GB. But the drain is consistent across all three.
There is also accelerated battery drain if my phone is completely switched off. If I leave the battery in the phone after powering off, the battery goes from 100 - 0 in less than 4 hours. Thinking the battery might have gone bad, I bought another oem battery, but that is exhibiting the same behavior.
This leads me to think there might be a hardware issue with my phone. I am tired of keeping the phone plugged in at all times, and am ready to throw this out the window and get another phone. As a last ditch effort, I wanted to post this here to see if I can get any kind of feedback/confirmation on this before I buy another phone. Other users are reporting 1-2% battery drain on standby, so 8-10% drain is unacceptable by any standard.
I have attached some screenshots from today when the battery was at 20% after about 9 hours. For this test, I did the following last night:
1. uninstalled all apps I downloaded
2. turned off WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, sync, auto brightness ( set to the minimum brightness)
I charged the phone fully, and then left it on standby, with minimal usage - I think I made a 2 minute call, checked my email once, and read some rss feeds for about 5 minutes in the 9 hours I tested it.

I know I'm not giving any advice here but I just wanted to let you know I'm in the same boat. No matter what ROM GB/ICS/JB I lose too much battery per hour with the phone just on standby. There's no explanation for %10 battery drain per hour with pretty much everything off (wifi, data, gps, nfc, background data, etc)
I have tried everything and now I must admit I've given up. I'm just going to ride out CM 10.1 until I can decide on a new phone, most likely the Nexus 4 or HTC One.

Bro, just replace the battery, buy a new one!
Doesn't seem like a software issue to me, sadly.
That confirms my suspicion. I guess it is time to start looking for a new phone. Thanks!

Yeah, your phone doesn't seem to be doing much while asleep. 20 minutes screen on, 35 minutes active, yet battery down to 21%. My battery would be at 90% with that sort of usage. Since you changed the battery (I'll assume it's a decent quality battery, although a cheap battery could be in cause), there's not much left.
Have you tried switching 3G off? 3G seems to SUCK the life out of these Nexus S batteries like no tomorrow.
But I suspect it's a hardware issue with the Nexus S phones. I have WiFi, Bluetooth, 3G and auto-sync all shut off and a static wallpaper and I will lose 20% of my battery in 7-8 hours.
Battery is kernel related. Try changing your I/o scheduler to row and governor to smartassv2. If you don't have those options then look for a kernel that does...air kernel and matrix should suffice.
NO SOLUTION so far
A friend was having the same issue, gave him the battery of my nexus s ... it lasted him for 7-8hrs max whereas it gives me 1 day~ on 2G and normal use without gaimng . So my guess like his mobile your mobile may have some component which is short and draining out the battery . I have been trying to look around for answer but so far no luck. So better check it with another batteryif you can before purchasing a new one.
Vampire test
If anyone is investigating why their Nexus S suddenly starts draining the battery in a matter of hours, BEFORE spending a ton of time (like I did) trying to diagnose what software problem you might have, do the vampire test, as described here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=42586314
I wasted days before coming across this test on this forum, and it proved it had to be a hardware fault.
I have two healthy batteries, both hold a charge for days (probably weeks) when not inserted in the phone, but pop one in the phone, leave it powered off, and within 6 hrs it's dead. So frustrating, and sad to see this phone go.
Hello guys,
Suddenly my Moto G battery level is change from 90% to 1% and devices turned off.
When I turn the device on I hear connect charger notification , but device is work normally for 3 hours with 1% battery level. !!

it's a known problem. Did it occurred while changing USB connection to PC?
for UK retail MotoGP se had an minor update (176.44.1) that should have fix the problem.
Otherwise look in the forum.
charge the device from the mains. It will start going 1 > 2 > 3 etc and then should jump to 100 quite quickly.
No, this problem occurred at no charging ( when I use the device after fully charged by 2 hours )
When I come back to my home I will connect it to charger, and I hope this problem disappear.
Now I check for update and no new update available

It will fix itself (or at least I think or hope it should) when you get it on a good mains charge.
Very well documented error around the net although not greatly on XDA. Mine did it once after a bad edify script execution in CWM but has never done it again.
I was going through thoughts of RMA and all sorts but it was soon fixed.

Hi it seems to be a strange fault with battery calibration on a lot of moto g's ive never experienced it powering off at a high charge level mine sometimes powers off at 10% but not 90% hope it fixes itself for you I understand it must be irritating worrying if your phone is going to stay on.
Happened with me too.
Full charge > connects to pc > battery goes from 100 to 0 > phone switch off > me gone crazy.
Fixed itself though eventually. Hope the same for you @Ghorab :good:
It just happened to me today - from 53% down to 1% while I was connecting it to my PC via USB. Hopefully it will fix itself like others said.
Same thing happened to me today. After searching on the Moto forums for a little bit and seeing that yes this is a very common occurrence I was able to fix it by using it till the battery died then connecting it to a charger.
So to summarize if you battery jumps from a high percentage( >50%) down to 1% just let it die them connect it to a charger, preferably a wall charger and let it charge back to full and then some so the battery can re-calibrate.
Now that I've got that out I wanted to note since I wasn't able to find this elsewhere. With most of the individuals reporting this issue they were apparently connecting to a pc via USB when it happened. I was not. My phone was connected to a wall charger, I was holding it in my hand using it normally as I have for the past several weeks and boom it said it needed to power off due to low battery.
I really do love this phone but I really hope Motorola finishes working out the rest of these bugs soon.
It will not fix itself. It's only a matter of time before it reoccurs.
Battery drop during usb tethering
For me happened two times already in the very moment when I start usb tethering . the phone rebooted and come back with 1% battery. After this keeping in usb port for 3 minutes was back to 100 %. But I cannot share my Internet to a PC anymore and is very frustrating.
+1 for it recurring.
I know it will keep working for hours at 1% until you recharge it, however for all this time it will be cutting back to minimal operation.
After installing CM13.1-ZNH2KAS254 the battery lasts only four to five hours by merely using the phone.

- How many full cycles have you had since updating?
- Are you using the original OPO charger and USB?, aftermarket products don't offer the same charge rates so may affect battery use.
- You have a device that is 2 years old, the battery regardless of it's total charging cycles is already past its 12 month expected lifespan.
- Try clearing the cache via recovery, this is something always recommended after an update, regardless of how small as it irons out any duplicates or issues.
I bought the phone this year, I am using the original charger and cable, but I have been charging it whenever I had the chance because of my work. For example from 35% to 80%, never letting the battery drain out completely. I contacted OnePlus and they advised me to let it shut down and full charge the phone three times. I will post the resaults.
I also use tethering a lot, at home on my desktop pc. I see that while tethering is on, the phone is charging really slow, like 1-2% every 10 minutes. Could this be linked to the battery lifespan?

This is a known issue of slow charging with the latest official update. If you are rooted the device, you can switch to Custom ROM like sultanxda's which does not suffer from slow charging.
Battery life actually depends on how you use the device. If you just use the device to read, it'll last longer. If you use the device only on WiFi, it'll last longer. If you have good network coverage, it will last little longer and most important is the age of the device.
Battery drain can be because of some of the apps using the device resources(like Google Play Services etc) continuously and not allowing the device to go into deep sleep mode.
Tethering drains a lot of battery as your device acts as a router and gets the power from the battery

This is a common issue on MM roms and the OPO.
Lots of people are reporting wacko battery behavior after upgrading to MM.
In my experiments, the CM 13.1 by Sultanxda was the least offending, and possibly COS, but I don't exactly remember about COS.
Switching back to LP will correct any battery issues.
What about screen overlay which is very frustrating.

It's been almost 1.5 years since I'm using my OPO.
With the latest COS update, battery backup hasn't changed anything toward bad if not better.
6-6.5 hours SOT always based on my usage. While I get under 5.5 hours SOT with similar tweaks using SultanXDA CM e.g.
COS 13.1 is running really good for me, battery is great, and honestly, since COS 13 came out, I've literally stopped using custom ROMs while on COS 12/12.1 I was barely using the official ROM. Mostly was on Resurrection Remix.
So battery backup wise, COS is "GREAT" if you know what to tweak, and yes the phone charges from 1%-100% in 1.5 hours using the stock charger.
Do a battery calibration, complete calibration, here's what I do after every flash, drain to sub 1% when phone turns off, go to recovery and keep it there until it "completely drains itself to death", then start charging from complete zero all the way up to 100%. That works for me, can't take any guaranty for your device though.
[SOLVED]
I did what they suggested and the battery lasted a full day, 08:00 to 02:00.
