3G not working & broken glass - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Two weeks ago I broke the nexus glass. When I saw some pieces of circuits on the right corner of the glass, I decided to simply putting some attack on the glass in order to use the phone for some more months. Yesterday data connection stopped working without any reason. SMS and calls are still working . Do you think can be Vodafone fault ? I tried the network resetting in the settings without success .

[Q] Anyone have much experience with failing digitizers?

So I guess I should start with the background info...
I have a MT4GS that I picked up off eBay with a broken digitizer. I replaced the digitizer right away with minimal issues. Once the phone was up and working I discovered that the earphone speaker wasn't working. I purchased a replacement speaker, but that too failed to work. I've used it for several months, making do by using speakerphone mode when I had to make a call. But that's really annoying.
Yesterday I finally had the time to pull the phone back apart and take a look at it. What I found was that the old speaker had been soldered to the board, but the leads had broken off. I scrapped off some of the protective coating on the electrical traces and soldered the original speaker back in place. I had an issue with the black coating that surrounds the LCD, it took several tries before I had everything back in place. But at least when I started the phone back up everything looked good and a test call confirmed that the earpiece speaker worked. (Yay!)
And then last night when I went to play a game, I noticed that the touchscreen seemed off. I quickly downloaded a couple of drawing games and confirmed that the digitizer wasn't working right. I also picked up Z-Device Test and found there are a couple of holes where the digitizer fails to register a touch and several more places where touch registers but weakly.
Are there any thoughts on or experience with digitizer issues?
I don't know if it will help the problem you're having but it WILL tweak the sensitivity some for you. It's probably well worth a try......

So I pulled the phone back apart and I found my issue. I managed to tear a part of the ribbon cable, cutting 7 of the leads.
So it looks a new digitizer is in my future.

[Q] Verizon warranty questions/ cpo devices

So about two weeks ago I shattered my S3 screen by dropping it about two feet from the ground.
The GPS has never worked correctly on it and I've wanted to send it in for a while now...
But anyway. I fixed the screen today with a hairdryer and some time, and it looks pretty good. However, the back button and menu button do not work now (nor light up), and the glass is a little higher and it makes the home button a little recessed.
I called Verizon and asked if I could send it in for GPS repair (of course, not telling them about 'fixing' my phone) and the very nice lady on the phone said it would be fine to do, and they would send me a CPO S3 and then I'd send the other one back without back plate/ sim/ and battery.
My question - once they get the old phone back, will it be ok that I've replaced the screen? The only thing that makes it noticeable is if my screen protector is off (anti-glare), there are very very small scratches to the lcd (the screen was very shattered, and some of the shattered glass scratched when I was removing broken shards) Should I also tell them the menu buttons and back buttons do not work? Is it possible to be charged if they find out the screen was replaced for the cost of a new device? I'm currently on CleanRom 7 but am going to go back to stock tomorrow.
Thanks for reading and responses!!!

Dropped phone, speaker stopped working, ideas?

Hello. I dropped my phone the other day from about 3ft, onto a linoleum like floor. I have a rubberized protective cover on it, but it fell on the bottom right corner, not quite flat. So I think the corner took most of the blow. Anyway, the speaker stopped working. The earpiece still works, all other phone functions are intact. There are no phone repair places around here (no swap meets, mall places, etc..)
Any ideas for a fix?

Try resetting to factory settings, probably not the case but worth a try.
Hey, my suggestion would be to to tear that sucker down. take it apart and inspect the phone speaker internally. If the loudspeaker is damaged or just not working
here's a link to a replacement part.

Multiple issues after screen replacement

Hi, I had my z3 screen replaced the other day, I got it back the next day and was delighted at the screen, it was perfectly fine. I got the phone home (stupidly didn't test in the shop) and popped my sim in, and had no service for about an hour, despite going all over my house.
So I took my phone back and they said they had to replace a part, so I received my phone back with signal, then the top of the screen had a very faded flickering, it was like a inner glow. I took it back and they had it for another day, I got the phone back to zero signal coverage, and now I can actually see the screen coming away on the left hand side (it's actually not flush with the case)
So I need somebody who is basically a mobile engineer to help me troubleshoot the problem so I'm more armed when I go in next, because obviously my phone was perfectly fine prior to the cracked screen repair.
Thanks for the help guys!

1. Use only OME screen replacement and dont forget to use the OME screen adhesive to stick the screen to the phone otherwise you gonna have a very bad time i.e your screen is slowing gonna come off the frame and you might not be able to use your proximity sensors and harsh movement might damage the screen. Whatever you do, do not apply pressure too much on the sceeen you might crack the digitalizer inside and also make the led bleed.
2. No signal might be because they did not connect the radio cable well or just damaged it.
My personal advise :
Go see professionals or repair it yourself

I replaced the LCD of my Z3 by watching tut video on witrigs.com but the new screen is not flush with the phone body ( but back cover is super slush) and like in your case its now coming off from one side. I think I got a duplicate LCD from the seller. But when I went to sony service center first time to replace the screen, their cost was almost half the cost of the phone. So I ordered LCD on ebay and the adhesive stickers on aliexpress. Now I am ordering new adhesive stickers from aliexpress as old ones are coming off. Dont know why its not flush fit.
So I advise to you is that watch that video guide on witrigs and then decide which way u want to go. service center or DIY. Also you will need the toolkit to open the phone. heat gun or hair dryer, screwdriver set, guitar picks, tweezers etc
In india, sony service is horrible so I always refrain going there.
Thanks for the response guys, this is the catch - I only took my phone into a local phone repair shop, I had to take it back in today and they said if they can't solve the issue with the new parts coming in tomorrow, they're going to have to send it back to sony and get it repaired that way. So hopefully my phone will be fixed, I am competent at the DIY it's just I didn't want to ruin any ribbons or anything and brick my phone.
I'll see how I get on.

NEX S falls 140km/h, ceramic coating and reconstruct clear back

Hey guys!
So, long story short, I started having some ideas on how to hard-proof your NEX S without using any cover/case. After implementing this ( https://forum.xda-developers.com/nex/accessories/ceramic-paint-coating-nex-s-t3901551 ) I started using my NEX S without any case or cover (only used it on the glass back).
2 weeks ago it slipped from my support in the moto at 140km/h and I thought I've lost it completely. After recovering it, it was working perfectly with only the metal rim around it heavily damaged and the glass back shattered (no problem with the cameras or the front screen). Again, no cover or case was in place at the time of the fall, so props to VIVO.
So I ordered another glass back from AliExpress for 10dolares ( https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32948791106.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.1a454c4dS17NTw ) and made the change.
P.S: I dipped the glass back in the ceramic paint again several times before applying if it worked the first time.... It already comes with double-sided tape to apply.
I've cut a little bit of the interior panel so now I can see the front camera mechanism going up and down (JerryRig everything on youtube).
Sorry for the poor image quality, but I couldn't use my phone to take those for obvious reasons
If anyone has any questions or different ideas for this still amazing phone please share, I don't plan on selling it anytime soon :good:
