Can't see "cdrom/driver mode" when connecting to Win7 PC - Onetouch Idol 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I want to install a non-available language on my US-bought idol3 4.7" (6039s).
I installed an "add languages" app from the google store, and it requires me to either root (overkill, don't want to) or run a command via adb. I unlocked developer mode, but still whenever I connect to my Win7 PC I do not see "cdrom/driver mode", which I think is needed to install the adb drivers. I only see "Media device (MTP)", "Camera (PTP)" and "Charging".
How to proceed?
I apologize if I am missing something basic, I am new to hacking android

Update: was able to enable Hebrew by dialing *#0972#, 972 being the telephone country code for Israel. Thanks Moscow Desire, now my wife too can use her idol 3
My original question still stands, why can't I see "cdrom/driver mode" after having turned on USB debugging?

You should see cdrom/driver mode on your device out of the box without having to enable anything...it's the normal method to INSTALL the windows drivers to a pc for adb access. I'd consider using the alcatel q software to bring your device up to the most recent firmware and see if you still have the issues.
@Moscow Desire
I would love to see a post with a list of these codes along with what language they enable? I know you used one code for Russian and now another for Hebrew?

Thanks @famewolf, I'll have a look later to see if anything changed after a system update that took place last night.
About the languages, although I did not test it thoroughly, it appears to be the international dialing code of the country whose language you want to add, preceded by 0's. E.g. 7 for Russia/Russian, 44 for UK/English-UK, 972 for Israel/Hebrew it would be *#0007#, *#0044# and *#0972# respectively.
Being a noob the forum is preventing me from adding external links, but English Wikipedia has a good page titled "List_of_country_calling_codes".
Dialing *#xxxx# appears to also change the UI, but for Hebrew (and I read that for Russian and Ukranian too) it is not perfect. In the case of Hebrew the right-to-left writing direction is not handled properly, e.g. in the phonebook "Contacts" are under the "Favorites" tab and vice versa. But if all you are interested in is the additional input language, you can switch the UI back to the default, and then after having performed the *#xxxx# activation once a lot of new input languages are available for selection. This is how my (wife's) phone is configured now.

Slide to unlock?

So I usually keep my phone locked because its usually in my pocket. I frequently get text messages and it's kind of a pain to unlock it and relock it each time I get a message. Is there any way for my phone to unlock the keys when I slide it open, and then relock when I slide it closed?
Thanks.

I tried this program too
Potentially it's a nice app, but... Some Remarks:
- It's language dependent. This didn't work on my Dutch s710 ROM, but does work on the English and Polish ROM. Version 1.04i also supports German and French languages.
- Sadly the latest version referred to in that topic, version 1.04i, is no longer available on the site where it was linked. I also googled, but no luck. The other linked version 1.02i is still available trough the link but you have to register on that Polish site (I managed, though my Polish is not that good). And I suspect the guy that wrote it is no longer active at this forum.
Question: did anybody download the 1.04i version and can he/she make it available for download again somewhere?
- The most important problem: it's demo, and therefore it only unlocks the keyboard one time per application run. After one unlock AC Unslide 1.02 closes itself. The funny thing is there is no full (pay) version available that I know of...
Question: Is there any way around this, for example by some auto-restart trick/tool?

Yes. You can use mortscript. As I don't have the app, neither the htc, cannot test anything, but it would be something like this (don't blame me if it's wrong, just following examples):
#RestartAutolock.mscr - Restart the application when it finishes.
result= ProcExists ( proccess name for the autolock application )
if (result < 1 )
{
RunWait( application_filename.exe )
}
Make it repeat each x seconds/minutes/whatever and you're done
If you're curious...
Mortscript
EDIT2: Attached 1.02i version cab (you didn't need to register on the polish site )
That's a nice solution. Thanks!
I just reinstalled the program and found out there is another problem that makes the restart idea impossible... unless you have a Polish ROM, that is.
The app defaults to the Polish language, so when you have an English ROM, everytime you start it you have to press the left softkey and choose the English language (option 2). I tried starting the program with parameters like 2, -2, E but unsurprisingly this did not work.
Too bad... it's a nice tweak.
can someone make it simple?

Hi,
I am rather new at android. I recently acquired used Samsung Galaxy S5830. Hardware is in excellent condition, however firmware and software area real mess. The phone seems to have Cynogenmod as a custom ROM installed which I find annoying and there are bunch of apps that I don't dare removing not knowing what they are while basic things are missing including possibility to add Samsung account, email client, gmail client, maps, Samsung apps, navigation etc.... I would like to get the phone either back to its original state or some other custom ROM that would include all (and only) original Samsung applications that originally came with the phone or some other Samsung model, in particular Goggle maps, navigation email and gmail clients..
I have found appropriate USB drivers, installed them, appropriate tar.md5 file, installed Odin 3.7, put the phone in download mode and tried to do it myself. However, Odin creates a port but fails each time, I get no yellow or green where its supposed to be. I am not using the phone yet, so I don't mind wiping it all, no backup is needed.
I understand that before the process USB debugging should be enabled, but I couldn't find the way how. Pointing to Manage Apps> All>Dev. Tools, all I get is App info and an option to force stop it.
I'd appreciate all the help I can get.
Thx

First activate developer options by tapping on build number in the "about device" in settings. When it's activated, you will find the usb debugging tab in developer options.
Sent from my SM-G900F using XDA Free mobile app
Thank you, but....
As I have mentioned, the phone is a mess. The thing you are suggesting is simply not availanle. It is there but shaded out. Going to About phone all options I get are Status (Phone number, sigal etc.), Partition info, View changelog, Legal information and following shaded options: Model number (GT-S5830), Android version (4.2.2), Baseband version (S5830XWKT8), Kernel version ([email protected] #1), CPU, Memory (277 MB), CyanogenMod version 10.1.0-RC4-GT-S5830-cooper, Build date and Build number.

[Q] How to change Android's wifi device name

Hi guys I have many Android devices in my house and when I go in the router's config panel is a bit difficult to recognize the right device among connected clients. I'd like to rename devices' names so I can recognize them easily. Is it possible?

Device/Android Version
Settings menu differs from Device to device and Android's version to version.
For Samsung's KitKat touchwiz it's under Settings>General>About Device>Device Name.
Yours might differ a bit.
---------- Post added at 11:03 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:59 AM ----------
As you have Kitkat 4.4.4, there must be a search bar on the top of your settings menu.
Just search Name or Device name

I googled on the net and searched for a while in the playstore. On Google I found that it is not possible, on the play store I found only apps that require root to do that. I didn't find this option even on my Nexus 7 2013 (with root and CM11), but for it I can at least use root-needed apps.
EDIT: apps with root access need to set the custom hostname at every reboot. No way to set it definitely
EDIT2: I found the right option in my rooted devices with CyanogenMod, no app is needed. There is "Device hostname" in the developer setting's menu. I searched for this option in my mother's phone (Xperia J, no root) and in my current phone (Moto G 4G, no root), but there isn't any option.

Yeah I know what you mean. It's just that changing the bluetooth name redirects me to changing the 'device name' on my Note 2 which also reflects on my wifi connection automatically. I thought same would be the case with you. Hard luck mate.
But hey, you can try other options for your convenience. My suggestions:-
1. Note down your wifi configuration on your android device and do a manual configuration. So you can identify devices with their IPs. Use .111 or .222 for easy memory.
2. Or your client software must be having an option to save your device with a nick name. It's just a one time job anyways

If you're still interested I've found out the way. It needs root though. As root in a terminal just type:
Code:
setprop net.hostname <your hostname>
Obviously replacing "<your hostname>" with the name you like. But since it gets reset after each phone restart it's suggested to put it in a /etc/init.d script
Well, this is officially known as Issue 6111 and while I don't have any newer Android 6.x Marshmallow device, I do confirm it's a nuisance. Unfortunately, most of the workarounds require root access (a rooted device). I am testing myself several "solutions" before choosing a final one that suits my needs. One may find interesting apps like this in Google's Play store. Same question has been asked 4 years ago on superuser forums.
I just set up a new S8 on Friday. When i brought over the Google apps my old S5 was not listed. Many of the apps I use on my Nexus 7 tablet were the same ones that I use regularly one my phone. So I let the play store download those apps.
Now when I use Fing to check what is on my wireless network the phone is listed as:
"My Asus Nexus 7 (2013)"- on the name area on the left and as "Samsung S8" on the right side of it's network address spot.
I can't change this by changing the name that is in the phone settings ( which is the name that shows up for Bluetooth and is correct - SMG950U).
Is there a way to change this? It seems like an interesting bug.
Now 30 minutes later it is showing up on the Netgear through Fing as a generic Murata Manufacturing printer?????

[Review] Incredible 3GB 6000mAh Innos D6000 review specs

Possible issues:
D6000 reboots: 2 users have stated that turning off animations was correlational to D6000 rebooting itself. I have turned off animations since the beginning and not experienced this problem at all on any ROM. Still, it's worth noting here as a possible solution: Turn animations back on if animations are off and you are having reboots
Box states other than official site in regards to frequency support: Gone, info link removed by XDA mods.
Several users experiencing restarts when phone goes into deep sleep
Hard bricked after ROM install: Plug phone into PC via USB and enter recovery (VolDown+Power) then do reboot
v2.4 D6000 dedicated function button not working. Solution: Switch to Chinese language and set by pressing button or through system settings. Switch back to English. Profit.
At least 4 Western users and one China user has experienced "dead battery" syndrome. The internal battery will not charge. Phone boots into Android, after a few seconds phone freezes, then reboots or powers down. Battery charge icons do not show when phone powered down. Solution:

2. Install QPST/QFIL (Accept all default settings)
3. Unzip the tar.gz to a folder. (Remember this folder)
4. Run QFIL, it should auto detect the port (mine was COM5)
5. Select Flat build.
6. Select Programmer Path from the unzipped tar.gz folder just now and select prog_emmc_firehose_8936.mbn
7. Ensure the Select build path is the path to the unzipped tar.gz folder.
8. Click on Load XML and select rawprogram_unparse
9.. Select patch0.xml
10. Click on Download. Windows will suddenly find and install another new driver and you will receive a "Fail to find QDloader" error
After Windows has installed the driver, go to QFIL and select the new port number for the device Windows have just installed. You should see the number change from 9091 to 9008 and different COM number.
11. Press Download again and cross your fingers.

Recommended gapps: http://opengapps.org Make sure to DL ARM-64 for 5.1. Pico recommended.
For those concerned about frequencies, we finally had a Canadian answer back and he's connecting to bands as advertised on the site. This means the box is incorrect and the official Innos site is listing the correct frequency support: Gone, link removed by mods.

Should be released this week. You'll need to buy from a China shop most likely, Innos D6000 unlikely to be sold retail in anywhere but China or China resellers.
Do somebody know, if it's prerooted? If not can somebody know how to do it?
Can I load there some custom roms?
Will custom roms recognize two batteries, or it's just unique for this innos firmware?
Details of software is necessary to buy, because without root it's useless.
It would be nice to get some more details of its software.
The Innos D6000 has just been received. As far as Innos D6000 root, rooting it shouldn't be a problem. I may delve into that later, but at this point just general testing. So far it's proving to be a very professionally done package. I've put together a quick unboxing. Just slammed it together. Nothing fancy. Uploading to YouTube now. Already up on Facebook.

Hi all.
I bought this phone last week and so far is great.
I found a Chinese forum and install a ROM via native recovery from there but all the Gapps are gone now. The phone have no root and Market.
I install Mi Market and manage to install Play Store and Google Services but the Play Store gives me an error of connection due to the host file in System / etc (root).
I'm not a developer and i'm looking for a Custom recovery or Root access for this device, when you have please post it....
Thanks in advance
Hi All,
I also had problems with an update removing all google services.
You need to use the annoying Qualcomm wire brush method and drivers! As its type C USB, you will also need Qualcomm Ethernet drivers and not standard USB.....
In windows 10 etc you'll also have to disable driver certificate verification to install the drivers.
At the moment there is no root option, but here's the google play 5.1.1 version:-http://bbs.innos.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=59378&extra=page%3D1&mobile=2
To register on the innos BBS to view links, you'll need a QQ messenger account to use the baidu cloud downloaded.
I would post the entire instructions but I'm currently on holiday in the Ukraine.
Let me know if you need any more help installing the ROM and getting over the great firewall of China!
Thanks!

Maybe it's time to make space for innos at this forum? Mods?
It could be reason to collect soft or even ingest developers to do done software?
It was nice to install TWRP and some custom roms like slimcat or cm... Is it possible? Will wait, will see...

I also get the Innos D6000 and are happy with him. By reading your posts it's not an option to upgrade(using wire brush) to a newer version of software due to the play issue(suppose international shipment bring a bit different rom from the Chinese version). On the innos bbs forum i also noticed people not happy with newer software than v1.1 (android 5.0.2), but also noticed people are happy with this rom:

D6000 frequencies?
According to Gizbeat there is a question about frequencies
<MOD EDIT - Link Removed>

There's also this thread: Where a user is unable to connect to B7 LTE

Because I'm from USA and it means the phone is completely useless there if box is correct.

I've communicated with Innos today. According to them the specs are as stated on their official page and through their selling partners. The box only reads the minimal frequencies so as to not confuse Chinese people where the majority of these phones are sold.
Of course, this isn't 100% solid. What we need is reports from people who own the phone, where they live and what kind of connectivity they're getting, especially from anyone in N/C/S Americas, but any reports from any locations are good.
I got my D6000 on saturday. My problem is, that the phone is always reebooting when you turn off the display. This happens in between 1-2 minutes after put the phone in standby. When i turn on flightmode the phone is not reebooting!! Maybe there is a bug with the modem. I use TELEKOM (t-mobile) in Germany.
The rom is version D6000_ROM_COMMON_V1.1 (Android Version 5.0.2).
Any ideas?
Hanz, that's a good guess that it's something with the radio or radio software. If I were you, I'd try the beta 5.1 and see if the problem continues. If it doesn't, then you know it's a software issue. If it does, it still might be a software issue (eg, if it's a driver or baseband issue and these files not changing between ROMs). I'm only recommending it as part of the process of elimination.
First you might want to try setting to WCDMA only, GSM only, LTE only, and see if it's an issue with more specific connectivity. If these options don't exist in mobile network settings, try to use this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.mangelow.network&hl=en

Language support

Hi Guys,
was about to pull the trigger on Amazon to buy this phone when noticed in Q&A section that US version only comes with few languages - not worldwide Android language selection. Since I was planning to send this phones to Ukraine to my nieces, I need to know if it is possible to re enable Russian/Ukrainian and what I would have to do. Root probably? Please only answer if you are sure of the working method, I don't want to just test theories.
Thanks.
I have 6045I and just changed the default locale using a local-changing app. You are right - the choices of language is limited to English, Espanol, Francais or Italiano. If you root your Idol 3, you can change locale easily-all you have to do is install a locale-changing app and run it. But I wouldn't want to go that route and I was able to do without rooting the device. You need to change permission using adb shell pm command (most locale-changing app displays exactly how you change the permission) before running the app.
Not all the menus and messages won't change to the language you change to of course, but you can convert some to the language of your choice. The app I installed has a Russian locale option.
OK, good to know. Thanks for prompt answer and good advise. Since no rooting is involved, phone should stay on the OTA updates schedule and this is very important to me. Could you please check if Ukrainian option is available as well? Girls mostly speak Ukrainian and, if I understand correct, locale determines the responses they are going to see when using any locale-aware app, like Google Market, Facebook, etc.
BTW, I tested this method with my own unrooted phone and it does work, though there is a bag of gotchas. Phone settings reset to English (as probably my phone does not use Android standard settings and the one it uses does not have prper translation), locale-aware apps changed language, but only in places, so it's a mix of Eng-Ukr. OK Google voice activation stopped working in the new locale (I can still use voice prompts, but can not invoke it from home screen with OK Google phrase) and Language settings do not have new option for the added locale, so the only way yo change it if someone changes it back to one of the default ones is through the locale app (I use Locale More Pro app).
