After a long wait....
mesoftware have annouced today the new PhonePlus II
www.mesoftware.biz
As i was the first beta tester for this product, im very proud of what they have done....completely different app.
some of the things they added (taken from their site):
* Now you can assign the GREEN button to PhonePlus!.
* Dialing within the PhonePlus!
* Picture dialing is now easier to use and configure.
* Added "+" for long distance calls.
* Added "#" key.
* Added Call Log feature.
* Added Pictures on the main screen.
* Added the abillity to call speed dials using long button press.
* Added language support for German and Hebrew.
* changed the skin to a better skin and much faster to use.
* Fixed some bugs, and improved software stability.
They are mentioning that the PhonePlus II is only for WM2003 for now and that they are working on a PhonePlus II for the WM2002 (i told them that i dont think there are a lot of poeple still using 2002)
I think they had really done it this time.

And is it upgradeble from Phone Plus 1???? I bought that one!! And was entitled for free updates for at least 1 year!
YES....thats what they told me !!
Isnt that great?
Would be really nice if you had the option to send SMS to the contact
The real question is: Can you answer a call with phone plus, or do you stall have to look at the built-in dialer anytime some-one calls you?
Also I would like to see it designed so that it can be used only with the phone keys and d-pad, like on a normal phone.
Surur
yes, it would be nice if they added a feature for sending sms too...we can have the whole world i guess
surur - you can handle all phone features with the phone keys and the D-pad (for example, if you press left on the D-pad you enter Photo dial , if you press right, you enter Call log)
about the incoming call, i didnt test it yet, i think the incoming call launces the default phone.
i think its the best software yet, and believe me that i have tried them all (wont mention their names so they wont kill me )
In every app we will find something we want that there isnt...
The default dialer is invoked for an incoming call.
It is a bit buggy and with a few limitations (I am preparing a list now) but I think I may end up going with it.
I tried it, and uninstalled it very soon.
It lacks some basic features found in the built-in dialer. You can not start the speaker phone, and, as mentioned earlier, incoming calls go to the built-in dialer.
Surur
Ive been using phoneplus 1 in a long time and it was a great sftware.
i dont think i can go back today and use the default phone which lacks a lot of features.
and in phoneplus 2 they did amazing things, i loved the green button the most.
by the way - IT DOES have speaker ability, all you have to do is press and hold the green button
i dont think there is a better dialer today than phoneplus, including the default, and i wish to hand it to the develpers.
as the person above me said - there will always be someone who will say :"but it cant fly a plane, or make coffee"
im waiting for phoneplus 3 (hehehe) already, hope they really will implement SMS ability, but still - AMAZING software.
Hi
When I read, that you can assign the greeen button I instantly bought it, which is totaly noy my normal habit.
I still think it is a great dialer... BUT
I figured out, the green button will not work (be default) on a non englich version, there is a bug as they hardcode some paths :-( (\program files where on my machine it's \progamme )
I was able to fix it with a cab-manager and some hacking, but they should fix it by default...
If a detailed explaination is need I can post it later

Are you sure?
I know that they have already did that...
maybe you have downloaded an old release or something? i know that they made it generic, and they even said that now they can put any language support they want.
Yes, I guess I am sure.
I got the download link from pocketgear, which should be accurate.
It's version v2.00
It installs without problems, but when you want to assign the green button, they place a link in autostart, this link linked to \program files instead of \programme.
I modifed the link to \programme, but then when it try to start the dialer my hole machine crashed.
I used cab-manger to hardcode the install dir to \program files (which was generic), but then the autostart-link was not placed automatically. Lukily I still had the link available from the previouse install so I did this manual and now it works.
That my experience from last night...
Alex
worked with my german xda2 on latest official rom without problem... but only way to get rid of the green button thingy is to delete the shortcut in autostart folder manually...
I do not want to get ride of the green button, I WANT the green button to call PhonePlus.
Either I really got an old buggy version from PocketGear ( which would really really suck) or their is something else.
I my case it was so simple, that there can't be some misunderstanding :
The PhonePlus got installed under \Programme\PhonePlus
The Link in the Autostart folder pointed to \Program Files\PhonePlus
That's all, simple and wrong
Alex
best thing is i didn't had to manually add/remove/paste anything to get it working. just installed, selected the green button in settings, made a softreset and it worked. but after testing for a while i wanted to get back to the standard dialer and noticed that the only way is to manually delete the shortcut in autostart folder and softreset...

There was a prerelease version that had this bug. The PhonePlus developers and I went through that in an online chat, and they fixed it immediately.
Later, I downloaded the 2.0 release version through a link from their website, and in the version I got the bug was definitely fixed. So, either you got an old version somehow, or their detection routine that decides if it's "program files" or "Programme" fails on your device - but that sounds very unlikely.
You may want to try re-downloading and re-installing PhonePlus. Before you do that, you should uninstall the previous version both from your PDA and your PC. The uninstaller somehow fails to delete the files from the PC (PDA is fine), so just to be sure, do that manually. Also, make sure ppcap.exe and ppcap.lnk are gone from your PDA (the same bug was also in ppcap.exe).
Cheers
Daniel
It is working now with the little hacking I did, so I leave the system now untouched.
I still wonder how I could get an old version.
I went through the purchase at PocketGear.com and as far as I remember used the link they provided me, so the fault might be on their side...
anyway, if it's fixed it's OK with me... I still like the usability of this program... it exactly what I want.
have fun
Alex
I bought PhonePlus 1 long time ago and used it for a while without any problems. BUT....
I was so happy that PhonePlus II was released, downloaded and installed it right away... and.... may be it is only problem with my I-Mate... any way...
1. Using Green Button either Icon was calling for PhonePlus II, which was terminated in 1 second after its appearance.
2. After assigning Green Button I couldn’t call original dialer ANYMORE
So I had to remove it...
Any ideas would be appreciated...
To carlos66 - while your Beta-Testing have experienced anything like that???
noviur -
yes, it was on a really old release.
im guessing some of you got their hands on some pre-releases.
the green button works fine on my end, and on my friends devices as well.
i dont know why someone here said that they need to delete it manually, you just need to unassign the green button from the options menu, press OK and then make a soft reset.
is it possible you didnt make a soft reset?
anyhow, i will try to get the developers attention for this thread, maybe they can solve your problem.
tadzio - it seems that you have a conection with this company, maybe you can beep them.
Thank you, Carlos666...
I downloaded directly from ME Software web site, so point their attention on release version on thier "Downloads" folder
Can you send me the working one, please? Is it not going to be a bit of problem for you?
Thaning you in advance.
This might be something that jockyw2001 understands. I have a Kaiser that was originally traditional chinese. I updated it to the latest WM6.1 WWE English ROM, but I'm finding some strange behavior.
For example, I want to install CEStar Chinese Input and Display. The problem I ran into is an error message on install that says CEStar is already installed and that I should remove it before re-installing it. While I need to use mainly english, I still get Chinese email, SMS and even use Papago in traditional chinese.
Not sure what is going on here. I definitely cannot display Chinese characters (they all show up as blocks on my phone) but I can't instlal CEStar either. If someone kneows what is going on, please let me know.
Michael
hang n just want to share an opinion
hi mikelim i have bought a kaiser that was originally a simplified chinese n ive changed it to english version n it seem have no problem at all but when i have istall the CEStar Chinese Input and Display it sometimes hang n i must soft reset it n not just that sometimes using keyboard it have a lag (freeze for 2 or 3 second) but maybe you have to try to install a ROM RUU_Kaiser_HK_WWE_1.82.721.1_radio_sign_22.51.88.13_1.27.15.32R2_Ship that work fine on me but still the CEstar won't work very smooth ...
Discalimer: While this has worked for me and many others, it may not work for you so be careful and remember to always back up your data.
Well after much searching for instructions on how to install Swype and get it working without the various errors and crashing i have decided to write up this little tutorial... 'Why do we need a tutorial?' you ask. well since my first attempt at installing Swype i have gone thorugh 2 hard resets and a new Rom.
I have also found a 'fixed' cab, after attempting to use a cab rip from the tmous version and screwing over my phone.
Some of these swype cabs are a bit buggy and can cause temporary errors in your registry that screw-up anything that is encrypted, this includes saved passwords for applications and more importantly the windows unlock password.
This may not happen in your installation but it's better to be safe than sorry and can be enabled after we have finished installing.
So before we even begin installation navigate your way to Settings > Security > Phone lock and then untick the box that says 'Prompt if phone unused for...'
Download the fixed-Swype cab if you have not done so already, i have to say thanks to whoever it was that made this, and is available here on xda-forums.
Cab:
Fixed-Swype-HTCBlackBird-3.9.10.10.5032.CAB
(No i will not put the fileup for public download, just search for it).
connect your HD2 to your computer and copy the cab over to the device into which ever folder you like.
now pick-up your phone and using your prefered file explorer navigate to the directory you just placed the cab in and open it.
During install you MUST make sure that you select to install the software to your 'Device' and NOT to the storage card.
Once the installation is complete your phone will prompt for a restart, select cancel and return to your file explorer.
Now navigate to the internal memory and then to the Windows directory in here will be a new folder named Swype, select it and then from the menu select copy.
Now go up out of the Windows directory but remaining in the internal storage navigate to Program Files.
Inside the Program Files directory paste the Swype folder.
Now perform a soft reset and swype should now be succesfully installed, to test swype open a blank message or word document, when the standard keyboard opens, click the small arrow next to the keyboard icon on the menu bar and select Swype.
Enjoy.
Great write up. Must admit i had many problems installing the v3.9 and had to hard reset to fix it. Your last steps about cancelling the restart and copying the folder is what is different.
Must admit though, i just installed the v2.0 from the Omnia and found it typed faster (this is compared to when i did have v3.9 working). Also with 3.9 the number selection when holding down a certain key hardly ever worked, works all the time with 2.0 so i just stuck with that. With a skin it looks not bad either even though 3.9 does have the better appearance etc.
may it also work for my touch pro 2 ?
Thanks in advance
There is actually a new version of Swype floating around... installing it seems to be pretty easy. And the bugs of the version which is mentioned above are solved, too. Just google for "IME_Swype_3_19_20_20_6343_0.cab" and you will find it.

I wouldn't like to say as i only have tried this on the HD2, but as long as you back-up and are prepared to re-enter all your passwords you could always try.

thanks for the info i may have to check it out if i get a chance.
There are actually 4 versions of swype floating around for use on the HD2.
The Omnia II version: works well but keys are small and just looks too plain.
The fixxed 3.9.10.10.5032 blackbird edition: Ripped from TMOUS. Much more pleasing to the eye. Long presses do not always work. (ex: holding for numbers). It changes your phone ID to T-Mobile_Leo. This it what locks you out of your phone if you have it passworded and causes you to hard reset. Disable password before installing. It also destroys settings for email and router pass keys. It also deletes passwords for installed applications like Resco and SPB. Also had to run through internet connection setup again. And who knows what else.
Another version of 3.9.10.10.5032 by LordYuz: This has been fixxed to not change your phone ID. Won't destroy your passwords or lock you out of your phone. Long presses still do not work well.
IME_Swype_3_19_20_20_6343_0: Also ripped from new TMOUS HD2. Again this version changes your phone ID and will cause damage as stated above. Not sure if long presses are fixxed with this version or not. Hoping LordYuz gets his hands on this version and fixxes it too.

I was of the same opinion but maybe its in my head but im sure it works better. It just seems to respond quicker, flow a bit better.
I also installed the Lessro skin, looks much better, better than the stock 3.9 in my opinion, dont even notice the keys appearing smaller and at the end of the day its a straight install, no special instructions required at all and the long key presses actually work so its practicality vs appearance..........i know what i prefer..............thats until of course they actually release a proper fully working 3.9 with all features working properly.

Refer to my post here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=684198&page=2 post #12
whilst v2.0 (omnia version) is floating around everywhere (google easily finds it), this is the newer released v3.9 by LordYuz which fixes the previous 3.9. works great. It is larger to install but go into the swype folder in the Windows directory, del the tutorial, its almost 10mb alone to save space
I used almost all of them including the fixed version ended up hard reseting twice, until I came across swype V.2 which I am enjoying it now a lot.
I have version 6343 with the Eleganicia ROM on WM 6.5.5 base. It works perfectly with long press, but the allignment is off due to the bigger taskbar. Any ideas on how to adjust it?

You probably used this version 3.9.10.10.5032.
Are you sure you tried the newest being Swype 3.19.20.20.6343.
Im using this no problem in terms of changing the phone ID, passwords etc and others have commented the same.
anyone has an ideea how to have romanian language?
So far, Swype is only 5 languages... to implement any other is not an easy job. Hopefully Swype will officially make an offer soon, with more languages. I think many people would buy it if the price is reasonable.

The omnia version does not lag when using htc messaging's conversation mode (with +50 message in a conversation). I installed the new stock ROM and this new swype version fixes the long press key problem, but it still lags pretty bad. My first question is, how do you check the swype version on the HD2? Secondly, does the newest swype version fix the lag problem?

Agreed, when i used to use the 2.0 (omnia version), it was simple and fast, just didnt look as good without a skin and the keys were a bit smaller.
Although in saying that, i have just flashed with a new aftermarket ROM which has the omnia swype already cooked in, v2.0 and it runs sweet.
Few days prior when i ran the latest swype i didnt have any lag on a stock 1.48 rom not sure why you got a lag problem. I also have hundreds of sms's but it worked good for me, i liked the new version as it just seemed built for our phones, larger keys, sound and vibration feedback, long key presses and even deleting words holding the backspace key down erased words etc. Overall very nice.
To check swype version, go to settings, personal, input and when you select swype, there is an about button top left. tells you there.
I have 4 questions...basically how to reset swype and how to guess which version is running.
QUESTIONS:
1.
how can I know which swype version i am running? from which menu? or settings or where?
2. How to install a dictionary, for example ITALIAN Dictionary? (I have the Italian cab, but installation does not work)
I have two HD. The old one HTC-HD2, NOT T-mobile (running an old 6.5.3 cooked rom) has a modified swype in which sometimes (50% of times) long pressing does NOT result in a number to be typed. But it has ITALIAN language.
My new HD2 t-mobile has probably a omnia version (smaller keys) and long press ALWAYS work. Unfortunately it only has only ENG and SPANISH dictionaries, NOT ITALIAN. I have tried to install Italian cab (following a thread here) but it is NOT recognized as a legitimate dictionary.
3.
How to reset swype? In fact after 3 or more months, the OLD HD2 has this problem: I have accidentally hit od and i3 and press space. these 2 mistyped words are now part of the ENGLISH dictionary, right? then what happens, every time i type OF I get OD (as default choice) and same for IF: I get i3...so I wish to reset the internal dictionary. How to do it?
4.
The NON-omnia swype, in the 3rd screen (click 123-SYM key 3 times), has an option "SELECT ALL", The Ommia-version of swype does NOT have this option. Is there a way to add in omnia-version of swype?
5.
The english dict has this word TYPO. Each time I swype TO the system ALWAYS enter TYPO...how to correct this behaviour? I wish to eliminate TYPO from dictionary. there are instructions on how to do. but these instructions do not work...
Thanks and waiting
Saulo
I have tried to turn back to defaults, under options, but no improvements...if someone knows how to reset to original settings, I would really appreciate...
Thanks
Saulo
Hello,
Since switching to Android from WinMo I was so badly missing a decent dialer, that I made my own. It enables dialing and fast search through contacts by number or name, and enables search in two different alphabets:
Latin (supports all european latin-based languages) and
One of the following: Greek, Hebrew, Arabic or Cyrillic (Russian, Ukrainian, Bulgarian, Belarusian, Serbian and Macedonian) currently implemented.
For Android 1.5 and above
I'd appreciate to hear your feedback.
Latest version: 3.5.1 (3.1.2 for Android 1.5)
Android Market address: https://market.android.com/details?id=eir.dialer3
If you want to contribute to the translations, you are welcome: http://www.getlocalization.com/eir_fast_dialer/
Full change log, user manual etc. available here: http://eir3.com
Looks nice. Does this have any advantages over Dailer One (info here http://www.appbrain.com/app/kz.mek.DialerOne)? They seem pretty similar.

You can search for contacts by name using two different alphabets at the same time. So if you have contacts written in, for example, both Latin and Cyrillic letters, as I do, this comes quite handy, not to say essential. I wasn't able to find another dialer that does this, please let me know if you know of one.

Above is the first advantage over Dialer One. The second, which is for me also crucial, is that it runs on 1.6 devices, while Dialer One requires Android 2.1.
Third would be, that Dialer One doesn't seem to handle properly some Latin letters, for example German umlauts - as far as I tested, it wasn't able to find, for example Andreas Köpke by pressing 56. Maybe it's a language setting, but still, if it cannot search using umlauts unless your language is set to German, that is a disadvantage. Fast Dialer searches using an extended set of Latin characters, covering all Latin-based European languages, regardless of what language settings you have.

Don't like the "trial" in the name of attachement. Why it's there? You didn't explained in OP.
1. FC on i5700 spica
2. trial version, and nothing about it...
Force close after touch first digit.
If it's trial, then it is obvious, that you are making paid app. LOL, make working app first, then try to squeeze money out of it xD.

True.
It's a backwards-compatibility issue. I thought the AVDs did emulate behaviour of an actual device... I'll fix that.
The app does work on 1.6 for anyone willing to try.
Thanks.
Actually I did try it on official 1.6 for my country (my signature is a little bit out of date).
Oh, a new version - 1.1. I'll try it, however now my phone is on CM6, so I can't try it on Donut .

Thanks a lot!
I uploaded two new files: 1.6 and 2.1 for the Donut and Eclair/Froyo.
Until I figure out if (and how) it would be possible to build once for both targets.
Let me know how you find the app. That is my main dialer, and for myself, it does the job.
Is it possible to make it so it works on Android 1.5? Old, I know, but my friend uses a Motorola Cliq XT and is stuck on 1.5 for a while until Moto gets their act together
It's not a bad start with this app. But this isn't really a trial but rather a demo with limited functionality. You can't dial a # containing "7" as the app advises you to purchase full version. Posted version is basically unusable. So why posting it in this forum where people are normaly helping each other or sharing things with no commercial intentions? Wrong place for advertising.
On a different note: check out Dialer One and AContacts. These are wonderful apps with a lot of thought and effort put into them. They are free as well. Fair enough, your app has got a unique function (one) but other than that its functionality can't be even compared to that of AContacts or Dialer One. Whole 3 options in settings menu?

I won't be able to do that. It compiles and installs on an 1.5 AVD, but there are some problems with the view generation which I won't have the time to look into.

Yes, Dialer One and AContacts are much richer apps. Unfortunately, they lack this small functionality, which I need very much.
And I have a 1.6 phone.
In my opinion, having only 3 options in the menu is an advantage. Best would be zero options.
I was hoping to receive feedback, rather than advertise. And I did, for which I'm grateful. I made this app because I needed it, not because I intended to make a fortune out of it. That's why I find it valuable, and perhaps other people will find it too, and would spare a coin on it, as I would have, had there been such an app available several days ago.
BTW, the files are updated.
does it support Arabic
OK, now app do not FC while pressing a digit (CM6). I really like it, basic, light T9 dialer for Android. It's good, that it has only 3 options. I mean - what to set up in app like that? It has do to a specified task and it's doing it right.
However, two issues was bugging me:
1. I don't like the way contacts number is aligned, it simply do not look good when name is aligned to right, and a number is aligned to right. I think both aligned to right would look better.
2. App isn't so... quick. I mean, try SuperDial (also runs on 1.6, but it is an ugly app). It is instantious, you press a key and there is response, the contacts are showing up. In you application you have to wait a bit of second.
I see potential. There is no that good looking T9 dial app on Android 1.6. DialerOne is fantastic, but it won't run on G1, X10, X10 Mini, LG GT540 etc. Please, do not set the price too high ($0.99 is max IMO).

It could, if I find out how the Arabic letters should be put on T9. Perhaps you could give me a hint
raven_raven thanks for the advices!

Yes, that's what I meant. I added support for Arabic, perhaps you can try it out and let me know if it works ok.

I took your advice and changed the alignment of the name.
I also did some optimizations, and the app runs even faster. I didn't figure out how I can measure the startup time of SuperDial, but according to the ActivityManager log, if that is a valid parameter to reference, Fast Dialer is faster than SuperDial. Cold start of SuperDial takes ~500ms, while of Fast Dialer ~430ms. Once in memory, SuperDial takes ~300ms to show up, and Fast Dialer ~180ms.
BTW, good that you mentioned it SuperDial is a nice app, I think it has some very clever decisions, like initially showing the log of calls instead of the contacts, but also some less clever decisions - like no possibility to directly (with one click) call a contact once you found it. The developers say, on their site, that the app is not polished, which is obviously true, since it also has some not-so-minor flaws (like failing to load a newly entered contact), which Fast Dialer handles just fine.
The updated Fast Dialer apk is in the initial message of this thread.

Is it possible to make it so it works on Android 1.5? Old, I know, but my friend uses a Motorola Cliq XT and is stuck on 1.5 for a while until Moto gets their act together

I won't be able to do that. It compiles and installs on an 1.5 AVD, but there are some problems with the view generation which I won't have the time to look into.

I take that back. There's a version for 1.5 phones attached to the initial message.
Hi All,
I was wondering if you could point me in the direction of (IF SUCH A UTILITY EXISTS) a webpage / App / Windows Utility, that can open a pre-made existing custom rom. And say for example it can.....
1) Change the Build.Prop file, from Chinese to English and strip out any other unneeded settings.
2) Remove Chinese Apps, or any other unneeded Apps
3) Replace key Chinese Apps, with English Apps... (ie: swap pre-configured MS Bing Voice keyboard to Google Keyboard)
Basically, just tidy up a pre-released Chinese rom, into English....
Does such an App, or service exist....??? If so, can anyone point me in the right direction please...
Thanks, Lister
What you are asking for is very complex and is never one in the same across other devices. In this typical situation the best solution is to manually make the changes.
Hi Modding.MyMind,
Thank you for your quick reply, indeed I was able to make the changes post (AFTER) the initial setup, which I had to exit the setup process as the built in Voice Keyboard didn't recognise some of the words I was saying, and there was no fall back typing keyboard to type what I intended. So it meant I missed some of the in-setup questions / options. Sure, I can sign into my Google account once swapped out to the Google Keyboard that I kept on the SD card. But things like personalizing it were missed.
I'm sure about a year ago or so, there was an App on the PlayStore that could packup your installed live rom, and turn it into a flashable rom. Sure I guess thats what CWM or TWRP project can do... But sure there was a specific App that made it more like a rom packager...??
Any clues...?? Thanks, Lister
