Which USB-C cable works with MI4C? - Xiaomi Mi 4C

Hi,
I ordered an additional USB-C cable off Amazon: Anker Usb-C to Usb3.0 to have a spare charging / data cable.
So, the first cable that arrived fit into the phone but slipped out at the slightest touch. Additionally, my PC did not recognize the MI4C in any useful way (no MTP, no MI PC Suite) - both work instantly with the original cable.
After contacting Anker support, they said the cable is faulty and immediately sent me a replacement.
The second cable fit into the phone much nicer. It sort of snaps into the socket like it should.
However, my PC still does not recognize it..
Charging seems to work with both cables.. .at least the phone detects that it gets power.
I'm puzzled now.. what is wrong with the phone and/or the cable?
Is the MI4C using some special standard that the cable doesn't support?
Which cables work?
Thanks
Jo

Hey Jo, i use the Anker USB C to USB 3.0 and it works fine withe the Mi-4c and the PC, no problems at all...
Regards

While on the subject... Do you think that Google engineer would approve of the USB cable supplied with our phone???
After reading all his reviews I bought the official Google USB C... I guess they got me...

No. Because its USB 2 technology and USB 3.1 adapter, like the new OnePlus X

"Leung adds that this won't have an affect on the OnePlus 2 itself as the handset doesn't support Type-C fast charging, and that the warning is more for owners of the Type-C compliant Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X, and Chromebook Pixel." from theverge . com
If you have Nexus or Chromebook with USB Type-C - don't charge him with Mi4C cable

Does anyone know about a good micro-usb to usb-c converter with an 56k ohm resistor?

i use the Anker and its working fine for me - you may buy one of this list rated with 5 stars

Any cable that is approved for Nexus 5X is good for the 4C?

Any USB Typ c "compliant to the Norm" cable will be OK. So i would say yes. But its not a issue if you use a non compliant cable only with mi4c. This will work because our phone throttles the current when being charged with 5V. But if you use it with other equipment later a non compliant cable may damage USB hubs, Laptops USB ports or PSUs. I will Not take this risk and would buy a compliant cable.

This is cheap and compatible I assume https://www.reddit.com/r/nexus5x/comments/3w5gth/usb_c_cables_for_180_just_tested_these_with/

Anyone can advice me an OTG cable from Amazon?

Sorry, but I think I need it once more
The cable we that came with our MI4c phone can only be used with the MI4c phone - and might damage chargers, laptops etc. if we try to charge a "normal" USB-C compatible device (like the Nexus 5X phone) with this cable. Right?
However, using a standard, normal USB-C cable, like the Anker one mentioned earlier in this thread with work with MI4c phones and any other "normal" USB-C compatible device. Right?
I just want to be clear, and not fry anything that doesn't need to be fried, if you understand...

As I understand it, its only when 'Charging' devices that the cables you are using becomes important.
Real Type-C devices are USB 3.0 and can draw a lot more power than USB 2.0 devices.. So their cables need a higher rated resistor to protect your devices.
The Mi4C is a USB 2.0 Device with a Type-C connector, hence any cable should be fine as USB 3.0 is backward compatible. But if you use the Mi4C Type-C cable to try and charge a Nexus 6, Lumia 950, Pixel or Mac Book it could fail and damage your device.

I guess that explains why it would barely charge when left connected to my laptop.

I am planning to get a cable .What is the consensus? Which one should I buy?

Does it matter which USB cable I get?

This is probably a noob question, but is there any specific micro usb cable I should get for this phone? The one that comes with it is so short. Is there any specific wattage or mAh I need to look for before buying a longer cable?
I don't think usb cable matters ,,,,only thing is you have to use correct adapter

Hmmm... how would I know which car charger to get then? The one I got has a 2.4a port and a 2.1a port
You can use the same adapter that came within the box
USB cables make a huge difference, more than people realize, especially if you want a cable that's longer than 3ft. Try to find one that has 24AWG wiring
Yes, it does matter. Since we can't see internal wires, we don't know what its gauge is. I have changed to original cable (comes with phone) to get faster charging.

You can search for them, and a lot of times it is imprinted on the cable. look for 28/24AWG, this means that the signaling wires are 28AWG and the power wires are 24AWG. The safest bet is to get genuine cables for any of the leading smartphone manufacturers like Samsung, LG or Motorola.
Monoprice is also a good source - http://www.monoprice.com/Product?c_id=103&cp_id=10303&cs_id=1030307&p_id=5458&seq=1&format=2
I know cable specification would be imprinted out side with most trusted brands, but some times there is no print on cheap chinese cables.

yeah it matter i tried charging mine with the samsung adapter but a longer USB cable from ebay somewhere didn;t even charge the phone to 100% over night got to 80.

Any way for USB-C charger and CC cable to get approved?

I'm looking for a USB-C plug for my Nexus 6P. There are so few on the market and I would like to try one.
http://www.amazon.com/Charging-Qualcomm-Certified-Supported-included/dp/B017I7EX46/
Anybody tried this charger and cc cable? Reviews say it works pretty well, but is there any tool like CheckR to test and approve the usb-c plug and cable? This might be important to note, due to the whole fiasco with the cables which would damage the phone/charger due to incorrect build. Benson Leung only tests AC cables as far as I know.
While there is the potential for a USB C charger and cable to not be powerful enough to meet the 3amp charging spec, a type C to C cable is unlikely to fail to be compliant in the same way as the A to C cables are.
The A to C cables were mostly non compliant as they were being identified as being compatible with the USB C spec and thus being able to supply 3amps of power, whereas in reality cables/chargers with type A connectors max out at 2.4 amps or in most cases a lot less.
A-C cables required a 56K resistor, but most companies initially used a 10K one which was the issue. C-C cables don't need a resistor the way that the A-C ones do,so they should all be compliant from what I understand.

I have been looking at the end chotech charger on amazon for 2 days now trying to figure out if it's OK or not since it's not on the Benson list of approved chargers.
Are you saying that if you get a charger like the one in the original posters link that has a USB c port you'll be fine because there is no USB A cable in the equation?

It should be fine as long as it only supports 5V/3(like the Choetech does) and not a different quick charging method like QC 2.0/3.0.

Even if it supports Qualcomm's QuickCharge, isn't part of the QC spec that there's a chip inside the charger to identify QC-capable devices and otherwise act as a 'normal' charger?
I would think so long as it supports 5V/3A you would be fine no matter what other standard it supports.
Here's a link to a google doc that details cables and charges that have been tested. It says if the item is compliant or not.

I don't see an issue, but keep in mine that longer cables could have a current drop due to increased resistance over the length. It shouldn't be a huge amount so I wouldn't worry about it. I use the Google 6ft C-C cable and get the full 3A when my battery is below 40%.

That's correct, but I don't want to fully recommend something that could cause an issue. I have a charger with QC 3.0 over the Type-C port and I have 0 issues using it. It still violates the USB standard to have QC 2.0/3.0 over a Type-C port, but that doesn't mean it won't work. It works, but could potentially cause an issue at some point. I can link you the post by Benson Leung along with the appropriate USB standard if you need it.

By any chance have you tested this one?
USB Type C Wall Charger, Tronsmart 33W Dual USB Turbo Wall Charger with Quick Charge 3.0 Technology for Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X (5V/3A)
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B019C23ZGW
Still waiting to receive mine. Obviously it's not up to spec because of the type-c + QC 3.0 standard on the same port but hopefully it works fine. And I also really want that extra type A port and foldable pins. I'm also thinking of getting a Robin when it comes out which uses type-C but with QC 2.0.

I haven't tested that charger, but I do have the exact same model with 2 Type-A ports instead of 1 A and 1 C. Maybe Tronsmart will send me one to test out You can see a review of the version I have in my signature (last link that's says Tronsmart Titan). I have their car charger which also has the same voltages over the Type-C port and it charges my 6P just fine even though its technically not in spec.

Yeah saw that when you first posted it. I've had other Tronsmart chargers and cables before. I also bought the Titan when it first came out too and they haven't failed or anything yet. I'm just a little cautious since type-C is new. Hopefully Tronsmart sends you the wall charger to test. I won't get mine for a few weeks due to international shipping and everything.
I've got the Choetech C to C charger and cable. Would recommend it without any hesitation. Build quality is on par with the stock charger, but nothing more. It's not braided or anything, so it's a normal cable with a normal charger

I guess we will see what happens. The Titan is a beast, but I can't use the full potential is has with 2 phones. The wall charger should work fine if it's anything like their car charger.

[QUESTION] Difference between UCH12 and UCH12W chargers?

So my phone came with the UCH12 charger and a usb C 3.1 cable, 1st gen i believe.
The adapter says it supports quickcharge 3.0, so can I use quickcharge? I read online that only the UCH12W can do quickcharge but I don't undersand why. What's the difference? My usb cable is a UCB20 model.
Can someone explain to me if I need the UCH12W adaptor and a different cable or something, or I just need a different cable with the current adapter?
According to my adapter it can output: 5 V/2700 mA, 9 V/1800 mA, 12 V/1350 mA, and according to the xperia.com page of the UCH12W that also outputs this exact same amount of power. So what's the difference and why doesn't quickcharge seem to work for me?

As I understand it (and hopefully someone will correct me if I'm wrong), the only difference is the cable. I read in one of the other threads that the cable that comes with the XZP doesn't support quick charge but the cable that comes with the UCH12W does support it. I'm guessing this is due to a wiring difference in the cables. I got the UCH12W on eBay and my XZP quick charges without issue, but I haven't tested this with the cable that came with the phone. I'll give it a go when I get home and see if this is true.
Long story short, I think the UCH12 doesn't come with a cable while the UCH12W does. Other than that, I'm pretty sure they're both the same charger.

Thx! Can you tell me, what model your usb cable is? It's on the little white leaflet thing, if it has one. So in theory, I only need a specific cable to do quickcharge?
So my cable that came with the phone is a UCB20 model, on the xperia site, I can see models like the UCB30 and UCB32. UCB32 won't do as that is a usb c - c cable, the adapter has an A connector first, so that's not gonna work. But the UCB30 is supposedly 2nd gen usb 3.1 type c cable. And it can support higher power flow. Could it be that the UCH12W comes with a cable like this? I didn't want to buy the cable because my the XZP only has a 1st gen usb c slot, so I wouldn't benefit from the 2nd gen speed at all. But maybe power would work.

I have downloaded an app called Ampere, it can relatively measure the ampere of battery charge and discharge. When i'm home in the weekend, I'll check with a portable battery, my old Z3 Compact adapter, and my current adapter. If nothing else my current one should shlw the highest amperage of the three. But I'm not sure my phone uses quickcharge. Because I don't experience the magic of putting my phone charging, me coming back in 30 minutes and I should see amazing results.

I don't see anything anywhere in either products' listings that would suggest that those are actually QC4 chargers, however, as Qualcomm's specifications indicate, QC4 does support USB Power Delivery, which is what everyone should be using anyway.

Yes you are probably right. I would wait for a Qualcomm certified charger anyway. Just saw someone post about the first one linked and they seemed to know it was 4.0. No reviews or comments anyhow, I would never purchase something with no reviews lol.
As for Anker, I've had issues with their cables and HTC phones. They seem to work for a little while then they stop. They also wear out quickly to where the micro usb connection becomes loose and falls out easily. Seems it's hard to find a good cable.
I need replacement micro USB cables for my M8 and M9 and can't even order one from HTC. The "HTC OEM cables on Amazon are fakes. They look exactly the same except they do not have the HTC tag.

Yeah I think their charging blocks are good I just know their charging cables are bad for HTC phones. The old micro USB cables, they wear out quick and stop working. The USB type c should be much better I haven't tried one yet.
I need an OEM HTC micro USB and can't even order them from HTC. The ones online that claim to be OEM are full of it.

Even one like this? I haven't connected one to an HTC phone (I bought this long after no longer having a Micro USB-equipped HTC), so I can't offer to test for you, but this is what I've got in my Jeep to power my wireless charger:
Anker 3ft/0.9m Nylon Braided Tangle-Free Micro USB Cable with Gold-Plated Connectors for Android, Samsung, HTC, Nokia, Sony and More (Red)

The clips on the micro USB wore out quickly and would not snap in like they are supposed to so they fall out. I still use micro USB for non-phone devices. But they guaranteed the cables would work with HTC devices since HTC devices are very finnicky with charging cables, if it's not HTC oem, most of the time they do not work right. My first pack I ordered from them, a pack with different sizes wouldn't work, they said that was the older style so they were great and offered me a upgraded version for free, like six different cables and they were the ones that worked but didn't last long. Anyway, the USB-C should be much better since they attach much differently.
It is hard finding a good micro USB cable.
Today I ordered here:

And today I got this one....

I don't have a suitable cable yet, but I'll get one.

Thanks for this find! I also bought these 2 chargers and am waiting on them to be delivered. As for the cable - I think this cable should work - https://www.anker.com/products/variant/powerline-ii-3ft-usb-c-to-usb-c-3-1/A8485011
What do you think?
I don't know, I bought these two adapter:

https://de.hama.com/00135721/hama-u...bySearch=USB-Adapter usb c usb 3.1 a kupplung
I used it to test recharging in the car, and it seemed to me very fast

I am not a fan of using adapters but thanks for sharing the parts you are using. I emailed Anker support and requested that they recommend the best cables to use with the Hama QC 4.0 chargers and will post an update once I hear back from them.
Cheers

Usb C Cables not working?

I'm honestly not sure where to post this so please lmk if this is the wrong place.
Short: I bought 6 cables from two companies (4 cables from Syncwire and 2 from Paracable) and all 6 cables do not charge my phone and have PC connection issues.
Long: My phone is a Sony Xperia XZ1, I'm using the default charger (Sony UCH20W), and the cables I bought were this Syncwire cable and this Paracable cables. All 6 cables shared the same issues and I'm not sure why. When I use my Sony charger, the cable does not charge my phone. I tested this with my Dad's Huawei Mate 20 Pro as well and no charge was detected. However, it should be noted that non Quick Charge chargers do work. The cables work with my Anker power bank, my old htc standard charger, as well as an Apple 12W charger. The other issue is with PC connection. If I plug my phone into any PC, it will charge the phone, but that's it. For my PC specifically, it will detect my phone as a device, however, the second I try to move a file, it will either instantly disconnect and then reconnect (after Windows cancels the file transfer), or the file transfer is very slow and eventually fails. I tried this with my Dad's computer and this other spare computer and both of those computers failed to even recognize my phone as a device. The same goes for the Huawei, can't transfer files on my PC and fails to be detected as a device with the other two PCs.
Why is this exactly happening? Does it have something to do with the fact that those 6 cables use a 56k ohm pull-up resistor? I feel like that doesn't make any sense, but at the same time, I have 2 other USB c cables that do work. The stock Sony cable and this other syncwire cable (USB 3, did not advertise to include a 56k ohm resistor). I've emailed Syncwire and Paracable, and both responded with the cables are made to USB C 3.0 spec and that they should work. I find it hard to believe that I got 6 DOA cables. Any ideas is appreciated. Thanks!

Have you checked to see if those cables have the same pinout order as the cables that do work? Also, some cables have fewer pins than others, such as cables meant for digital cameras.

I don't have a pinout diagram for any of these cables so I can't confirm 100%, however, for both the USB A and C side, they look identical in terms of pins and design. I do have links to the cables above and the syncwire one specifically advertises that it's for phones quote "supports Sony Xperia XZ/XZ premium/XZ1/XA1/X Compact and other USB C devices" and all the other USB C features like "supports currents up to 3a and transfer speeds up to 5 Gbps." Judging by the description and user reviews, I feel like it's safe to say that it supposedly supports Quick Charge and file transfers. The paracable site doesn't say it explicitly, however, email support, they said that the cables "are made to USB-C specifications." Again, the paracable support their 18W Dual QuickCharger so I would assume this would at least work with a Quick Charge 3 charger. Their USB C to USB C 3.1 states that it can "Charge up to 60W (20V/3A)" and "Transfer speeds of up to 5gbps," I don't see any other differences other than the connector and my cable being USB 3.0 vs 3.1, so again, I would assume this cable supports file transfers.

What I was asking is a matter of which wires are connected to which pins inside the cables.

I guess there's no real way of telling unless if I take the cable apart (which wouldn't work as I will most likely need to return and refund it).
