Defect - Bubble under S6 glass assembly.....(Whats up with Samsung???) - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After being through at least three s6 phones; with this one having a latest manufacturing date less than two weeks old (15.11.2015) I suppose I am now sick and tired of Samsung quality issues....or just plain unlucky.
My brand new S6 (Black Sapphire, 64GB) has a slightly warped / bubbled area around 2 mm wide underneath its glass assembly directly under the Samsung logo. This is likely due to excessive glue pressing too hard on some internal component or warping owing to excessive heat....or may have risen in transit in case something pressed too hard on the box, putting pressure on the display assembly.
First phone bought online had tiny screen and aluminum bezel scratches out of the box. (Manufactured in April 2015, made in Korea)
Second phone had a scratched home button, scratched speaker grill and bubbles / warping under the rear glass panel ( this was a June 2015 batch phone, Vietnam...I can share pics of this too if needed).
Third time, the subject of this thread....... still unlucky ......made in Vietnam.
Nearly all Sapphire Black variants I have seen have the bubbling / warping issue to a minor extent near the touch buttons, but anywhere else on the phone is certainly not acceptable. I have seen this on the Platinum Gold model as well.
I suppose 99% of consumers live without realizing such 'defects'; but anyway, please let me have your thoughts on this. Its either abysmally poor QC in the manufacturing facilities or something else is amiss.....Samsung seems to have completely lost it in recent times....
Look under the 'A' and 'M' in the Samsung Logo. Can this be fixed? (edit...looks much prominent in actual once you have noticed it and then you just cant ignore it :/ )

Mine is absolutely ok, mine is SM G920I, made is Vietnam, manufacturing date- 2015/08/22, Sapphire Black 32GB...
Looks like u are very very unlucky..

Ive bought a galaxy s6 64gb gold platinum and ive noticed the HR sensor has a large scratch on its glass/cheap plastic, i was about to return it and get a new one but then again ive noticed no screen dead pixels, no camera dead pixels and no other scratches on the entire phone, conflicted ive tried to swap it from the nearest store i could find of the Company that sold me that phone, they told me i should go to the exact store i bought it instead as it must have been some issues with their own stock, i gave up as i was pretty worried that if i wasted my time to go to that other store they wouldve traded me for an even more damaged unit, so i decided to make an effort and live with it but i get what you are saying, its absolutely insulting to buy a 650€ phone in such petty conditions, itll make me rethink later about my next brand phone pursache.

I've had multiple GS6's in my hand and yes, I've seen what you are talking about. Mine has it also. But damn man you are picky. No phone is ever going to be perfect. I've had LG phones that had "defects" like these. Don't even get me started on iPhones. I've had an iPhones 5s factory sealed. When I opened it the top part of the screen was coming off. I've seen several marks on brand new iPhone 4 and 4S's.
It's your opinion and you have a right to have them but I think this is too mutch. Try to enjoy your devices instead of trying to find "defects".

I've had the same problem!! I sent it to repair. Warranty covered it and now I have a new screen.

I agree with most of your comments.
Its a bit of OCD.....plus a bit of inherent 'experience'.....
....around 5 years of building scale models as a hobby; painting...buffing, finishing to perfection.
....A side stint for 3 years as a forum administrator / reviewer of tech stuff.
For my current bread and butter; I am employed in Financial Services and have spent three torrid years in the early part of my career auditing and managing quality assurance of financial reports.
To cut it short yes I am overfussy over build quality; but if you recall; back in a the day a Finnish Nokia used to rock like a Mercedes. I still hold on to an N8 which I have kept in mint condition except for a few hairline scratches on the glass appeared over time. Outsourcing production has improved economies of scale but has had corresponding negative effect on quality. A VERTU phone built like a Rolex will obviously have zero issues but lets not forget the S6 has been specifically marketed for build quality and looks...its a $550 phone
On the greater side of things; I do realize that fussing over mundane issues really does nothing in the grand scheme of life......
I have taken the advice to heart. (But I will keep updating you guys and sharing my future experience).

Any Broken Touch Cruise Displays so far?

Hello,
I just recently heard about a few people complaining about their broken displays in their Touch Cruise Models.
Because of pressure on their Devices the inner touch display broke.
Often without any severe pressure, it was sufficient to carry the Device in the trouserpocket and bend over. This was enough to break the display, at least this is what I read in the posts.
Can anybody tell about the same problem or has anyone experienced similar difficulties?
Sounds scary enough to me to get more information.
Greetz.
The Display of my o2 Xda orbit 2 was broken 1 month after i get my device. I dont know how it was happened. I have noticed, that the front of the device is very soft, softer than the display of my old Xda mini. So only a little pressure can break the display. I used the soft bag, wich was in the package. But in my oppinion a hard case would be much better to prevent broken displays.
Now i am very sad, because o2 want to have 230 euro from me (round 270 dollar) to repair my device.
I can recommend you to buy an hard case for your device like this one:
http://www.innopocket.com/web/showProductDetail.asp?ID=54&name=Metal-Deluxe-Case-for-O2-XDA/T-Mobile-Pocket-PC&code=OX-0310
Sorry for my english,
Greetings from Germany.
I think you can buy the screen in Ebay for around $80 USD and do the fix yourself.
Here are some hard cases for the TC:
http://www.boxwave.com/products/armorcase/armor-case-htc-touch-cruise_3046.htm
http://www.pdair.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=10100000_900000_11000220&products_id=7162
There are two problems with hard aluminum cases like these:
1. It adds at least 100 grams to the weight of the phone, so it becomes even heavier than the Kaiser ! (and probably even bulkier).
2. If you keep it inside the case while talking (for example you keep it in your pocket, and talk with a BT headphone), the aluminum case will damage the radio signal (both the 3G signal and the BT signal).
@noam32: can you give me the ebay hyperlink, please?
Sorry, I saw one for the Kaiser, and assumed the cruise has one too. Apparently not...
My orbit 2 has a slight section of the screen that appears as if it has begun to get screen burn, a slight blue can allways been seen now which is quite annoying. I am not going to take it back unless it gets anyworse as it took me long enough getting the thing in the first place.

this is not covered under the 1 year manufacturers warranty?
this is scaring me..i know what you guys are talking about when u refer to pressure...i can feel it when i push down sometimes compared to other pda phones i have used..
if this is not covered under the warranty, that is upsetting
This is scary indeed. I don't like how you can feel two screens sorta thing. They should have done this better. There should be no gap between the two layers.
Sadly broken displays not covered under the warranty!!!
@JEMSonline: If your display is not broken yet, you can give your device back, because this time it is covered under warranty.

Whenever you decide to replace a broken screen yourself you can order one at PDA parts for 119 euro's.

Oh great! But does it fit in the o2 Xda orbit 2, too? And how much are the shipping costs to germany? Thank you for the link.
Hi bloedfisch,
I'm not sure if it will fit the Orbit2. When I check the website there is no O2 model in the list.
Best way to find out if they can supply you with an Orbit2 screen and send it to Germany is to contact PDA parts.

you describe it perfectly.
And i believe this is the cause of the snapback sound which is made sometimes when you tap the screen in the upper right hand corner..
god i am regretting purchasing this as each day goes by i seem to find another thing wrong with it...heh
...and I have 2 dead pixels on my screen. But can't be bothered to wait 15 days for repair and...need to live with them ;]...
For me, somehow dust entered from one end of screen inside the LCD! strange! Its with O2 Germany for repair, 3 weeks+ now Apprantly it comes under warranty repair, but still its so painful. Ive seen other posts with rubber rings coming off the O2 Orbit 2 and loose slider button (the latrer problem is common with Polaris and Orbit 2). I have to say, very low quality manufacturing! Still the hrdware capabilites and software are very good.

S7 Edge Manufacturer Physical Defects/Aberrant Quality Thread

List any and all obvious or apparent physical defects that your phone may have or develop. Please list the carrier, date of build/construction, and the manufacturer location if possible. Hopefully there won't be any to talk about on a large scale! But we all know quality control can be hit or miss in industry mass production these days.

2 dead pixels...sent back yesterday! Will buy another in-store on release day tomorrow. If that one is bad...will stick with my Note 5.
I have a small dust particle below the protective glass on the rear cam about 0,1mm beneath the lens! I now fear this particle will move over the lens over time, so I ordered a second device to see if the screen is OK!
In regard to the screens: THIS is the real problem, because the screen quality differs A LOT!!!
I have seen 3 S7e devices so far, and each of them had a different screen quality...
So it is basically "luck of the draw" if you get a decent screen or not!
I made a few threads about this problems in the past, see here:

My S7 Edge drops every call a few seconds after I put the ear near the phone. Tried different SIMs, factory reset, etc. Nothing works. I have a replacement coming, but I have to wait a few days and it's not a good feeling knowing that I paid like 600 euros (plus an upgraded plan).
My unit came scratched out of the box. I'm exchanging it when verizon has stock in store tomorrow.
My SIM-card tray was a little bent on the edge where the hole is on it. It looks like the machine bent it while drilling the hole because it looks like the inner edges of the hole has taken a little beating. The box was fabric sealed when I got it so it has not been used. It doesn't bother me to the point I will exchange phone it's pretty much perfect otherwise but I will probably contact Samsung or something and see if they can give me just a new SIM tray.

I received a s7 edge from sprint on 3.8.16 and it had a small half circle of dead pixels in the bottom right side of the screen.
After 3 hours on the phone with sprint I was sent a replacement. I picked it up at ups today 3.10.16 and turned it on when I got home. After half way through the initial startup I noticed that I had the same issue only slightly smaller in the lower left hand corner.
Both phones have the dead pixels leading right off the screen. After another long phone call I am being sent my third phone on Monday due to a back order.
This is so bothersome I even called Samsung just to let them know. Hopefully the third times a charm. There is no way this could be a coincidence unless I am somehow that unlucky.

I had this problem on my note edge and the solution was turn off VoLTE. My understanding was that I was in an area that didnt have a strong LTE signal so the LTE connection kept dropping and picking up causing the phone calls to drop.

Just tried to do this with the support operator this morning, he disabled the Voice over LTE for me (no options inside the phone for this - it depends on the operator) and no luck. However, the LTE call should revert to normal call seamlessly in case of weak signal.
All in all, I returned the phone and got my money back since they could only send a replacement on March 25 (!).
Screen hardware failure. Couldn't get a replacement because they were out of stock and on backorder. Had to return it and cancel service. T-Mobile.

I had a slightly lifted screen at the volume buttons, I could slide a piece of paper inside. Gladly I bring it to Samsung store where I bought it, they gave me another brandnew device and a Samsung Level Box Mini bluetooth speaker as a sorry gift. How nice.
Cracked screen
Today I picked up my S7 Edge with my thumb and forefinger at the bottom right corner and it cracked the sscreen and spiderwebed the entire screen. I inspected the phone and noticed that the glass is raised just a bit around the whole bottom edge of phone. It's enough that you can feel the screen push in.

Not so responsive powerbutton when devices heats up to at least 39C. but works perfectly fine when it cools down,

Screen burn already, first time ever.

I have owned every Galaxy since S2 plus the Note 4 and Active S6
This is the first time I have ever had a Samsung with screen burn.
Just a few weeks old, then again it could just be a defect but never noticed it before. I do like to read on the phone but I have read on phones for years, so nothing different.
Really noticeable when scrolling on a website or anything with a white background.
What are my options, try Samsung warranty or maybe let it be. I am worried it might wear out unevenly and I plan to keep this phone (first ever) for several years.

Maybe you're not praying hard enough
Not saying it's not there but I don't see it. I just don't understand how you can get burn in without leaving the image on screen for very long time. You can try a pixel fixing app from playstore and see if that helps.
I have the same thing and no fixing image. In one month the display show dark band....no troll it's true when i scroll on fb or website.

I can't see any burn-in. Maybe describe what your burn in look like or what being burned in.
Or maybe it's just a bad screen uniformity not exactly a burn-in (see this http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s7/help/hows-everyones-screen-color-unfirmorty-t3333600 )
Get it fix under warranty
I was a little bit fearing that you guys with the Snapdragon would end up having some issue due to eat being higher than the Exynos one. I live in Canada, we normally get the same S series as you guys in the USA. But this time, we got the exynos and I was surprised and SO happy when I discovered it.
good luck dealing with Samsung. I have the SD card issue (connect/disconnect/reconnect/...). I have been dealing with them for 3 weeks. I ended up having to send my device to a Samsung authorized Service center. They said: Need to replace the motherboard + screen since it is impossible to do the task without changing the screen. Cost 690$ CDN. 450$ for the motherboard and 150 for the screen plus 15% taxes (yes I live in Quebec lolll).
Then, they called me with the estimate. I said contact Samsung since its under warranty and I have tones of emails back/forth, and phone calls with there executive management department. Every time I speak to one person, I have to repeat the all thing to another one. They seem to not keep tract of their records, email exchange, etc.
Now they say I have to pay for the Screen replacement. I am still fighting with them on the fact that the motherboard cannot be replace without replacing the screen... Over and over. And I am a Lawyer. I have spent over 15 hours on the phone with them to date and still my phone is sitting to the repair service. They would not talk to each others. Extremely weird all the story. But I kept tract of everything and I am sending email to everyone I have dealt with all the time. All this to not have my phone for 2 weeks now... and at least another week before it gets back.
They will have no choice then to pay (of COURSE) and I know it... this is my job to do so.
Lol and re-Lol. I have owned 2 S1, 2 S2, 3 S3, 2 S4, 3 S5... and they just dont seem to want to deal promptly with their hardware issue. Really frustrating. I am charging 350$/hour... I have lost a lot of money (time) on this. I will sue them for it in the end. They will be easy for me. They wont even send a Lawyer in Ottawa (where I live) since they have no representative here. And their legal fees will be over 10K to fight. My demands will be around 5K to date.
Good luck
We are in the same boat...

I'm also in the same situation as yours.
First let me get into a major issue I'm facing,

and the same problem as yours,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s7/help/grey-lines-display-t3360635
I'm gonna try warranty tomorrow again because I believe they had given me a faulty display during the repair.
Every Samsung phone I've owned has had horrible screen burn in, even with brightness at low. I finally quit buying them but my old lady still does. She decided on an iPhone last time because of the screen burn. So from the galaxy s all the way to the galaxy s6 every phone had burn in.
I'have s1 to 7 too. But first for me with display who as 1.5 month. Only on white/grey as usual on amoled. I think it's more visible since s6 s7 qhd resolution.

me, my brother and father bought sgs7 new ones and i can say that all 3 have screen burns (black spots or lines)i couldnt believe when i saw that and i came from xperia z5 which also had screen burn but there were white spots on xperia instead off black ones and i send to sony waranty and they replaced the screen in one week and now the screen is flawlees....definetly going to samsung waranty and see what they will say. :fingers-crossed:
Samsung warranty is a random world. Send for one problem back with 2 problem lol. It's for this i stay with mine (sorry for the very poor english). I love samsung product and amoled display but with the grey and white there is always a prob. Rrr

What the heck is this display issue?

Hey Guys (and gals).
My Samsung Galaxy Alpha's screen seem to have gotten an odd 'defect' which i cannot seem to determine the cause of. Normally i would just beat the **** outta google for such issue but I cannot seem to find any documentation or even a similar case regarding following issue. (am i blind???)
Description: A few months back an odd 'line' in a 'silver/metallic/greyish' color appeared on the top right of the display. The damage itself does not seem to be a scratch nor crack on the display. It more seems to be some kind of liquid material but i cannot tell for sure. As said at first it apperaed as a single straight line on the size of a fingertip but that quickly changed; as you can see on the picture it has started to fork into multiple branches and is in general growing in a faster phase than in the beginning.
At some point i realized that the phone is 'old' and a repair wouldn’t be profitable to even consider. But there is one thing that bothers the living **** outta me; i cannot figure out what caused the problem in the first place! - I am most definitely not a phone technician but i do have my share of hardware knowledge in computer devices. And this does not seem to be near any kind of damages on LCD displays i have encountered on either laptops, monitors nor phones. I have my daily routine in a IT company where i work as an sysadmin; and therefore i believe that i come across atleast some people who could be able to determine the root cause such issue. - But till now the only 'convincing' argument came from a 'hardware chimp' at my local phone store that was certain the screen was cracked and the only solution was either for him to sell me a new phone or ship it to Samsung repair.
- If the device is flipped on the side and you examine the display from the right angle it is clear that the damage doesn’t seem to be on the protective glass nor the LCD display below it. - It seems (from my pov) to be either on the inner-side of the Glass or somewhere in between the glass and the LCD (trapped air? liquid?). Besides the visuals the phone doesn’t seem to suffer any other negative effect. Touch works flawlessly and the device still seems solid.
- Therefore i ask you guys; does any of you have even the slightest idea on what could be causing such issue?
Any advice / solution models / comments / muffins will be much appreciated.
Best Regards

No offense, but the lines look awesome . I think that they might really be just air or water(liquid) that got caught in between the LCD and the digitizer(touch screen). Keep me informed.

Are you experiencing purple spots, green tint, or a burned image on screen?

Howdy folks, it seems the new Moto Edge 5G is exhibiting the same issues as seen on the Moto Edge+ since they share the same screen hardware. These issues are popping up usually within a few days of ownership and are starting to flood the moto support forums. Since we're an amazing group of members here at XDA, I figured I'd try to nail down some common ground and create a thread to discuss.
If your screen is exhibiting one of the following issues, please reply to the thread with the symptoms, the manufacturer birth-date (on bottom of phone's box), and a photo if possible. Please also share how long the phone was used before symptoms appeared, and whether it had been after a prolonged use period like all day gaming, or just poof it happened.
My Moto Edge 5G is exhibiting the purple splotches around the edges of the screen as well as the green tint.
Manufacturer Birthday: 07/09/2020
Appeared after 4th day of ownership, after long day of sporadic use.
I have a green haze right around the edges and I can't tell if that is apart of an edged screen. Will continue to monitor it.
If it's like the Edge plus and they basically share the same screen I doubt it will get better and will likely need a replacement phone. They did push a software update to the Edge plus that supposedly helped some phones if it hadn't started yet or was very early in the process.
As a person who is in the market for a new device due to a failing battery in my HTC 10, what would the general consensus be on buying and Edge right now? If it matters, I'd buy from the big yellow tag place since they have it in stock and are close. And then if the device has to be returned as well...
Wish they made the G Stylus with 5G

At the $500 price point it was a great deal, at its current $700 price point... I'd go elsewhere. Especially with the widespread screen problems, just look at the reviews on the yellow tag store.
Here's a great photo of the green symptoms side by side. Left is the old one, right is the new one. Pretty significant.

Are you trying to talk me back into getting one now?
*sigh* this is a case where you want something to work out so bad, you try to find excuses to ignore facts. and the $700+ price tag.
it just looks gorgeous.

There's no proof the new one won't start it in a few days. if you want to spin the wheel of chance, go for it. But at $700 I think there's better options out there. OnePlus Nord, Pixel 4a 5G.
Haven't experienced any screen problems, I purchased my device unlocked for $349.99, which is amazing for a 5G device
I will add my $0.02 to this and say I believe it is an LED issue. LEDs might not be getting the right voltage at low levels. Try with an all-white photo. lower your brightness. I bet you could not tell. Try with any other color and you will probably not tell. It is most notable with a super dark grey picture. The kind of dark grey that has a hint of green in it already. Turn the brightness all the way down, then up to about 15-20 percent. You should be able to see it then. I think it is an LED voltage control issue. Software update that was mentioned by one of you up above would make sense to me. Maybe I might just be imagining things or mine is just different than every one elses. The way mine started was at the top of the screen showed it lightly, then it got a bit worse. It has stayed since then. I bought this on the 2nd of August, received it on the 4th. Screen started on the 10th. Today the 16th has not had a change since I believe the 13th, if I remember correctly. It is rooted with Magisk and EdXposed. I might make a return/repair request tomorrow.
So I'm at 4 days with my replacement Edge and it's working correctly so far.
#3 unit
Another replacement unit.
Finger crossed
you really scare me with your screen problems. For the moment (5 days) I have no problem with my Edge (purchase in France) but what scares me is that it does not happen immediately and I do not have a purchase invoice (gift) .... I hope I have no problem soon: /
I really hesitate to sell it quickly so as not to have a problem ....
I have a very Little problema when I'm on dark grey screen with 2 or 3 % of brightness in 90hz mode... if I try to use 60hz mode the display is absolutely perfect..
Ok i have green tint...only at low brightness i have it...i'm si dissapointed....
I don't know what the HELL is happening
Moto Edge is not alone

They can fix it by letting us adjust screen hues , like how Samsung has , so we can calibrate it
Yep, just noticed it today. Took awhile (bout 3weeks). I've been in dark mode, and my wallpaper's of blackness, didn't notice. It's severely getting worse, quickly. Did anyone notice, after the September update? Time to contact best buy.
Mine started out pretty minor, but has been getting progressively worse over the last few weeks. Initially seemed heat related as I only noticed it while using Google Maps in navigation mode. IT would start out as slight dark ghosting of the screen image on the right side of the screen and would progressively creep to the left side. Mostly it's a darkening of the correct image by ghost image of higher up, in particular it's seen as a dark circle where the front camera is. If the part of the image being ghosted is a strong color it will be ghosted in green or purple. As the screen is scrolled the ghosted images move as well. It's since gotten to the point normal usages more then 10-15 mins cause the issue. If I use the camera too long in the heat or sun then the lower part of the screen will go white and the touch digitizer stops working. Attached is a photo taken while the screen was 2/3s white with my company iPhone.
The warranty replacement arrives tomorrow. I just ran the most recent update QPD30.114-23-2 installed claiming fixes for screen issues, but still saw the ghosting after the reboot.
