How to distinguish between refurbished and original Android. - General Questions and Answers

Is there any way to distinguish between refurbished /Fake Motorola and Original one....?
As my friend previously got Motorola xt912 and he got his phone dead in no time, so, I'm scared about it. On the other hand Motorola is in the affordable price so, I'm willing to get Motorola Droid Razr M xt907 (Verizon). Now I just rely on XDA's members.
I think it'd be chipset which differs in both phones (fake and original). QCOMM would be of the original one and MediaTek would be of the fake/china one. I don't know what exactly it is but just briefly explain me about it. Thanks in advance
Sorry For bad English if it is!

This **** is RIDICULOUS.

Never again will I buy a Moto phone.

I agree, the way that Motorola has been treating it's customers has been truly ridculous. They have (or so it seems) practically abandoned the Atrix 2 which is a relativity new phone, and their only major phone on AT&T.
Not to say that I regret buying the Atrix 2, it's a great phone, but it's safe to say that unless Motorola majorly revamps their customer service/relations I'll never be buying another phone from them.
I love my A2. They make brilliant devices, but as you said the way they are treating their loyal customers is unacceptable.

That is fine just look at the bright side ^_^ once they release those unlocked devices our devs can simply port it over to locked counter part ^_^v can't wait they should release it we can buy, dump and return hehehe.
Just a clarification: If they release an Atrix 2 developers edition...

Sadly it doesn't work that way... our Atrix 2's are encrypted with a different key than the Development Razr's... we can't just "port" it, otherwise we would have done so with the Bionic.

I was just about to post this/ask a question on it.
Just remember reading somewhere (possibly here) that the dev edition phones use different hardware/software??
Im saying if they release a developer edition of atrix 2 not the razr one

[Q] Moto G vs. Moto X: Which to Gift

Hi everyone,
I'm looking to gift a new smartphone to my wife this holiday. She is by no means an Android power-user. I'm debating between the G and the X (I snagged a discount code for the X). I know the spec rundown for both devices, but I'm not sure I can justify nearly double the cost for the X. I'm looking for input from people who may have used both devices. Which would you choose as a daily-driver for a non-techie and why?
Thanks.

The biggest difference for a non-techie person will be in the camera department. The always listening mode in Moto X as well as higher customizability through Moto Maker are another 2 factors which should be taken into consideration. Moto G also has no LTE support or gyroscope to take photospheres.

Just get a Moto G should do, as you said shes not a power user.
Nice current phone!

[Q] What's next....after Maxx

I went to my Verizon store yesterday to see the new HTC One M8 because I'm torn between the more stock android experience of the Maxx vs Sense. The verizon rep told me that their system indicates that the Maxx is now listed with an end of life product code or something. Basically it's on it's way out to be phased out or replaced.!
Does anyone have any insight as to what might be next. I'd hate to buy a Maxx this week to only find out the next phone is right around the corner.

Only rumors I've seen in regards to a Maxx follow-up have been Q4 of this year. End of life doesn't mean much other than they won't be restocking the phone. Some devices EOL in just a couple months.
Every year a new droid/droids comes out. I don't think the maxx is anywhere being done I could see a few more updates coming. This phone kicks ass and won't be over shadowed anytime soon.

we should know at the end of summer, its one every year, razr maxx on sep 2011, razr hd maxx sep 2012, droid maxx, sep 2013.
we'll hear about it on july i think and have it on september.

The past duration shouldn't matter, because Verizon very clearly said last year when the Ultra series was released that they were not going to replace it as quickly as they had in the past. They want potential buyers to feel that they aren't being ripped off, like Razr buyers did when the Razr Maxx came out a few weeks later, or Droid 3 users did when the Droid 4 came out 5 months later.
See http://www.cnet.com/news/motorola-now-exclusive-droid-partner-to-verizon/
Dietel said the Droid Ultra lineup would remain Verizon's flagship smartphone for a while, and promised a longer shelf life for the products than past "hero" products.
"They need to stand for something to customers," Dietel said.

My guess is that they will have updates at some point late summer or early fall. I actually think that the Droids came out a little late last year, based on the fact that they were a little low on the dpi of the displays and they weren't using Snapdragon 800 systems. My guess is that Moto took more time than planned getting the touchless controls and active display working right. I could be wrong about that, but, based on the hardware the phone used, compared with other phones that came out last year, I always wondered if the plan was to come out with the Moto X and Droids early summer?
I could be very wrong about that, of course...

The Moto X and Droids were never meant to have top of the line hardware specs. They were designed around features and software optimized for the hardware. The custom CPU's cleary show they weren't concerned about using the mainstream "best" hardware.

Yes, I've read those explanations. It's also possible that it was just PR.
It doesn't matter - Verizon wants these new Droids to not be replaced as fast as old ones were. So, sometime this year for sure, and probably this summer or early fall.
Everyone keeps saying better hardware its not better just faster. There is nothing substandard about the x or droids internals. If anything its just as fast as the 800 without the battery drain. I am a car guy at heart so I will use this analogy. Its better to have a 300 HP engine in a 2000 pound car then a 600 HP engine in a 4000 pound car. There both equally fast but the 600hp car is going to suck gas like a *****.

Phone Purchase Advise

I am going to be buying an android phone off of ebay in the coming days to replace my old and decrepit Lucid which is about to drive me bat crazy.....i have limited my choices to these....the droid 4, the droid x2, The droid bionic and finally the kyocera hydro elite.....all of these phones as you know are verizon service...well because i have verizon service....but i have read some reviews about people having the droid 4 and x2 and bionic with the updates that screwed their phones over...i have always liked motorola...but i am asking if anyone has expierence with any of these phones with their latest update installed....please reply to this with your expierence or opinions...id prefer at least two different people per phone as i have found no two phones act the same...any information and opinions would be most helpful ^_^.....and for those wondering those phones have been picked due to budget and condition of the phone itself

You bought the phone ?

Goodbye Motorola?

Just seen this article on CNET regarding the Motorola brand is to be phased out.
I really hope this does not mean that future devices will be non-stock Android as this is one of the key reasons I chose this phone.
What are your thoughts on the matter?

That sucks. I hope not. Was pissed when Google sold it overseas......
Much ado about nothing. Companies are always bought and sold. And you misinterpreted article: Motorola is being kept as a brand name as in "Motorola by Lenovo" etc.

Lenovo does some super shady stuff with their computer business. There was the whole superfish thing, and they got caught hiding junk in uefi bios that comes back after a wipe and clean install. Lenovo has proven they can't be trusted. I sincerely hope Moto mobility makes Lenovo better, but I can't shake the feeling that Lenovo is just going to make Moto worse.
It's sad, but I expect lenovo to ruin Motorola like they did Thinkpad after they acquired IBM's computer division. I've heard some troubling things about layoffs and restructuring Motorola's mobile software arm too.
Hopefully moto cranks out a few more good phones before they're assimilated into the lenovo machine. I guess pretty soon it will be nexus, Sony or nothing if you want a modder/developer friendly phone. Maybe add One Plus to that list too.

Even better!!! That means all the moto x pure 2015 will go on clearance or have good sales on them, plus motorola played us by not adding a fingerprint scanner to a 2015 device. Same feeling we felt to find out that moto x had no fingerprint reader is the same feeling they're feeling at the office for this news, it just happens.. i wish them well... getting ready for them liquidation sales!!!

I wouldn't plan on liquidation sales. They're keeping the "Moto" brand for their flagship phones. The consumer will likely see absolutely zero change throughout this process.
As someone who has been through 6 corporate purchases and sales in the last 8 years while keeping my same desk I can say that there is no way you can read more into this story than a name change.
If it ain't in the headline, folks don't read

Yep...nothing is really changing on the consumer end.
There were leaks of the new moto x doubt its going to disappear
So if I go with motorola specifically the moto x pure edition, what changes things for me if I own this phone and after motorola changes to lenovo? Will updates & upgrades be still released frequently & etc?
What are your thoughts?

Odds are pretty high that nothing will change on our end.
I think motorola brand will disappear, but Moto series will continue to be produced.

"An official statement from Motorola clarified that statement, saying that Motorola Mobility as a company will continue to exist and be part of the Lenovo smartphone business. But the product themselves will now carry the Moto brand as it is more “hip” in keeping with its market."
Pretty much all of these articles with clarifications indicate Motorola Mobility as a company is not going anywhere.
This should clarify:

Many articles tend to expand on worst case affairs to attract more page views and would rather monetize on clicks than boast the most accurate information. Motorola's blog is as close to the source as you can get so there you go. Thanks @brholt6, you beat me to it.
