Do I use kernel noble or spacex?

I'm using this one. It's in the original android development section. Arter's is also a good choice.

Where are you stuck?
-Download odin on your computer.
-download your devices recovery from here. http://arter97.com/browse/exynos7420/recovery/9.4/
N920X is where you want to look. If you're tmobile pick n920T.
-Transfer the desired kernel onto your phone's internal memory. I personally am using jovys kernel
-put your phone in download mode(restart phone and while it's restarting, on the black screen hold your power, home and volume down button), in odin click ap and find the recovery you downloaded.
-install and once you've installed recovery on the first boot go into recovery(home button, power button, and volume up) find the kernel you want and flash it.
If you want supersu, you will have to Google supersu beta and download the latest one and install that through recovery after you've flashed a kernel.

it would be wherever you transferred it to, if you downloaded it on your phone it would be in the download folder if not it would be in the main directory if you just dragged and dropped it.
I have a problem. When I went to Odin to add arters recovery all it said was ADDED when it was connected to computer and REMOVED in Odin when I unplugged the phone. Was it not added to phone?

I assume flashing this via Odin for those of us who are rooted would trigger the flash counter, correct?

I flashed the CWR through odin (I thought it flashed a kernel also) since odin said 'Kernel' on the progress bar.
Ha, got me there LOL. Maybe its a stock kernal that trips the counter. Or maybe recovery has something to do with the kernal, but doesn't actually flash a new kernal. I dunno

So just to confirm the steps per http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342348:

2. Run Odin3+v1.85.exe, and prepare Odin:
•Check "auto-reboot", and uncheck all other options.
•Click PDA and select the ucla3.tar.
3. Put your device into Download Mode:• Connect the USB cable to your PC, but NOT your device.

I assume this will only work upgrading from ucla2?
Edit:
Why is the update so large? I thought the OTA update was only 25Mb?
There is no ucla2.....this should work no matter what u are running. It will wipe your phone out. And put u on ucla3 2.3.6

You're supposed to follow the guide that the fellow above linked to. Section 6 of that guide is very simple to follow. It's on the first page, in the first post. The files you need from that guide are:
1) Odin

Lol looks like you're running a newer firmware than what's officially available from Verizon. You've installed the JB leaked stock firmware whereas ICS is what it's supposed to have. The VRALF2 4.0.4 file I told you to download is what's officially stock.

I believe that's because of the: "(1)" just before the ".tar.md5" If you remove (1) from the file name then I'm sure it will verify the md5 in that same box and allow you to go on.

Hey everyone,
So my Captivate (I897) got screwed up running Slim Bean 2.9 (JB 4.1.2), then the touchscreen stopped working, so I decided to reset the phone using Odin 1-click, using the packages here: <http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1300843>. Anyway, I did this twice: I did it once with the UKK (Gingerbread 2.3.5 [the second one]) build without bootloaders. When the phone wouldn't boot, and stayed stuck at the AT&T logo, I decided to use Odin again, using the UCKJ3 (Gingerbread 2.3.5 [the first one]) build with bootloaders. Now I'm stuck at the AT&T boot screen again, and nothing is changing. I can get to download mode, but what should I do from here?
Thanks,

1: Haven't tried Heimdall. Good idea.
2: I've tried getting into recovery, but the screen never blinks or anything-- it just stays on the ATT screen without any sort of response or any sign of life other than that

So I tried the one-click you posted, as well as Heimdall. The screen still stays on the ATT logo :crying:
However, I just noticed something on my computer; it seems the phone is showing signs of life, just not on the screen (still stuck at that beautiful ATT screen); Windows seems to momentarily recognize the phone, but then shows the error message that I'll post as an attachment.
Some of the Captivates do not like the one clicks. So try flashing through the regular Odin this firmware. (it does contain bootloaders, so flash at ur own risk). http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19587108
U can get Odin3 v1.83 here... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=33577757
When flashing any firmware that contains bootloaders, be sure ur pc/laptop has a constant power source, u have a reliable usb/micro usb cable, use a usb port in the back of the pc (not a hub), and don't let anything disconnect the cable during the flashing of the bootloaders (boot.bin and sbl.bin). The possibility of a hard brick comes in when there is a bad bootloader flash, mix matched bootloaders, etc. And once u have the GB KK4 bootloaders there is no need to flash any bootloaders again....ever.

Use mobile Odin. People really need to start using Mobile Odin now. It's on the play store

Pretty easy. First put the 4.1.2 Odin tar on your internal or external sd card as well as the stock kernel which is also a tar file. You can get these from Samsung's site or from the stickies here on xda. Remember the ones on Samsung site will wipe internal. But you can grab no wipe version here on xda
Now just go grab the app. When you open it it will ask you to download an add on. Say yes. Now it will tell you that you must have an unlocked bootloader. Say Ok since we know you have one. Put rom in system and kernel in kernel slot. If you wanna keep root and you are not flashing a rooted stock rom turn on ever root. Flash away!

it bricked my phone
So the other day my power button decided to stop working. So I called Verizon and they said that my phone was under warranty and they will send me a new one. The only thing is that I am rooted and when I went to put the phone into Download mode to flash back to stock, Download mode worked for about 3 seconds then the phone turned off. I'm assuming this is because of the power button being jacked up. Sometimes it will work fine and others it will freak out like I'm pushing it again and again, and other times it just doesn't work at all. I have put a stock rooted rom on the phone but I'm wondering if I have any other options. Thanks

Options for what? They aren't going to check your phone, they will just send you a box to send it back in.

I know that but I just wanted to make it stock so that they can't say that I voided my warranty.

If you can;t make download mode work, then your only option is to use mobile ODIN

Thanks, I'll try that tonight
Ha, I am having exact same issue, should have seen this post before I made new thread. Did mobile odin work?
My new phone is coming on Wednesday, 11/27
I just flashed a stock rom too LOL
Still wondering if this should really be a concern...I mean this phone gets back to verizon, like the other hundred that come in, and who is going to look at it, some scrub to make sure it doesnt have water damaged and no physical damage? Idk, just a thought.
I use mobile Odin all the time. It's great

Hmm, so I just used mobile odin and now phone is stuck at galaxy s 3 splash screen...wondering if the random rebooting/power button issues screwed it up. But I do have stock recovery now.

Well, download mode now says Samsung Official Binary and recovery is stock; still wont boot though. Guess this is better than the phone booting into CM when Verizon gets it.

Boot into recovery and factory reset, then it'll boot up just fine.

That was first thing I tried. Bummer. Guess I'll be using my fascinate until new phone comes.
Good luck with your s3, hope you can get yours to boot after using Odin mobile! I don't think Odin caused the problem, I think it was my phone improperly rebooting while Odin trying to work.

Mobile ODIN worked but it didn't want to restart when it was done. When I pulled the battery it booted fine so hopefully all is good.
