Much thanks to silver
for all the work. I used the CWM flashable ROM/Kernel/Baseband mix but I'm curious as to what the advantages are of having this in an Odin'able TAR file?
I assume flashing this via Odin for those of us who are rooted would trigger the flash counter, correct?

d/l and giving it a go...will report back.

I believe it would trip the counter, there's a kernal in it. The kernal trips the counter . The Odin .tar is best used to fix a softbrick. When download mode is the only thing you can access

I flashed the CWR through odin (I thought it flashed a kernel also) since odin said 'Kernel' on the progress bar.

Ha, got me there LOL. Maybe its a stock kernal that trips the counter. Or maybe recovery has something to do with the kernal, but doesn't actually flash a new kernal. I dunno

So just to confirm the steps per http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342348:
1. Download the ucla3.tar
2. Run Odin3+v1.85.exe, and prepare Odin:
•Check "auto-reboot", and uncheck all other options.
•Click PDA and select the ucla3.tar.
3. Put your device into Download Mode:• Connect the USB cable to your PC, but NOT your device.

I assume this will only work upgrading from ucla2?
Edit:
Why is the update so large? I thought the OTA update was only 25Mb?

There is no ucla2.....this should work no matter what u are running. It will wipe your phone out. And put u on ucla3 2.3.6

Yes that is correct may i copy your odin instructions and put in op so idont have to retype them?

Sorry, I mean't to say UCKJ2 -> UCKJ3.
So is there an option to incrementally update a device instead of wiping the device ... ala the OTA update?

For some reason when I flash the .zip of the ota and use the kernal modem combo I lose my data connection even with the apn restore. So ill try this method and hopefully it will work.

Try this, take the battery sim and sd card out of your phone.
Open odin, put the tar in pda and pit into pit.
Plug your phone into the usb.
Now bare with me, this part is a bit akward but you can do it.. hold the vol down key and trackball *with one hand* and put the battery in while holding them. You will be in download mode and Odin will detect your phone. Then flash

my 2 cents about the update
btw guys, i know alot of people has complained about things from the update but dont let that scare you. i personally didnt encounter any of them. it seems samsung or tmo cleaned it up a bit and increased the sensitivity of the trackpad, also allowing the trackpad to be disabled. They say they addressed various bug fixes but didnt state which so we'd have to see for ourselves. if anything make a backup and give it a go. i've been able to root it with the same one click root method.
the Odin went perfectly.. thanks ayoteddy. guess i'll root it and play around with the latest that Samsung/Tmo have for us..... until you guys release your next masterpiece, with these fixes baked in.
in the meantime, do you think the Bali kernel could be flashed onto this?
downloading when i get home from work!
Hey teddy. Do you plan on incorporating this update's fixes to your Smooth Maximus? This and the extended power menu and lockscreen mod will be an update to Ginger Clone?

in my experience, Set Partition should only take about 10 seconds until it moves on to the actual flashing, but sometimes it just hangs there forever. in that case I close Odin and maybe try again, or else try again without re-partition.... I dunno, Odin seems inconsistent, but it always seems to eventually work.

[Q] possible brick.......duno for sure

Hi guys, irecently attempted to flash a rom to make my phone more awesome but I feel I fudged up. My mounts were not set right I think but my phone still booted up like it should.....but on first boot my screen looked like a bill cosby sweater but that went away. Now. When I try to go nto recovery or dl mode,my screen is black n goes to normal boot. Did I damage my recovery? N if so can I get it back?
Tried to turn it on again n I just get bootloops, still no recovery or dl mode.
Also in rom manager it said cwm and recovery were present, but when I tried to go into recovery I got the same.
Any and I mean any help would b appreciated....thank you
You flashed gb. For that you need the bootloaders for gb. Until you get those you will always have the rainbow scree on boot and no recovery. Find and flash the kg4 leak that will straiten things out.

Yes you need Odin. Just check out the Bible and grab the Samsung USB drivers for you computer then install Odin. Then learn to boot into download mode. And you will be ready for flashing. There is a tutorial also in the Bible on flashing with odin. Here is the Bible link, learn it well if you intend on keeping the phone. Happy modding

Again......many, many thanks to you
Step 1. look at the bible. Look for the kg4 rom, pit file and odin are included in the download.
Step 2. to get into download mode, pull out the battery, plug in your phone, hold BOTH the volume up and down buttons, then plug in the battery. Congrats. Youre now in download mode.
Step 3. unzip all the files from the .rar file you just downloaded.
step 4. start odin and input all the files in the corresponding order. It tells you where each file goes.
step 5. Click start and wait.
step 6. your phone now works.

[Q] Unrooting Problem

I tried to unroot my sgh-i727 Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket back to stock setting. I downloaded and unzipped ODIN as well as the stock tar file. Everything ran fine, or so it seemed. Now it seems that every app that has anything to do with google force closes and I get an error message. Then same goes for when I hit my phone button to try to make a call. I get the same error message. I'm a noob here so any help would be greatly appreciated.

The one in the XDA link I posted also flashes the radio (I've used it several times). Maybe just a little extra bloat from Sammy on the other one?
I'd say use the one from sammobile first, of course, I'm just curious if there's a real difference.
I'm trying the radio flash now I'll let you guys know how it goes. Thank You!
Heres another question while I'm waiting on this download. Is the skyrocket upgradeable to 4.0 ICS yet? If not what android version is the most up to date?

Yup. I don't bother with the battery though, or the usb plug in, I just restart the phone by holding the power button > 10 secs, and when it vibrates quickly hold the volume buttons, and it goes into download confirm mode. Then i plug in the usb and press up to confirm, and presto.
ok so i tried reflashing the radio and that didn't work. I'm probably messing something up. Heres what I'm doing for you guys to let me know what I'm doing wrong.
I opened ODIN and the only thing check marked is Auto Reboot.
After that I opened the the stock tar file (SGH-I727-UCKJ2-k0nane.tar) under PDA then I started the reboot. That got everything back to normal besides alot of apps force closing to include not being able to make calls. After that I flashed the HOME_SGH-I727user_CL626051_REV02.tar.md5 file under PDA for the radio. I'm a super noob so can someone break it down Barney style for me PLEASE? You guys are awesome by the way!!!
I still think the fc's are a radio issue. Flash this first, method 3:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1611796
Both of these include the radio, but vary in size. The first one is 250mb while the second is 315:
This one is a system dump from an xda member:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1349207&highlight=uckj2
This one is the complete firmware image from samsung, but you have to sign up to download:
http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&t=1&o=1&m=SGH-I727&r=5
When I open up ODIN do I flash everything through PDA one at a time? What are the other options for i.e. bootloader, phone, csc?
U need to flash cwm through odin:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1340526
Then you have to flash the first link i posted through cwm. As for the second and third, they are the same thing. You pick, based on the descriptions i used. The second one you flash through cwm, the third one is an ODIN flash.
doesn't it have to be a .tar file through ODIN?
It is a tar, flash the clockwork mod file u downloaded. It may be zipped, you might have to extract it
If it prompts you for a password when unzipping the downloaded file for the stock firmware, try sampro.pl
EDIT: It will likely have a file extension of .tar.md5. This is fine. Just put it in the pda slot. Do not put anything in any other slot. DO NOT CHECK REPARTITION. Only Auto-Reboot should be checked.

The one in the XDA link I posted also flashes the radio (I've used it several times). Maybe just a little extra bloat from Sammy on the other one?
I'd say use the one from sammobile first, of course, I'm just curious if there's a real difference.

It is the complete official tar. It has everything, untouched, just how it comes from the factory. It is official and does not trip the counter
If you are downloading the rogers version, this should be the password

[Q] Rooting turned my phone into a "soft Brick"

I have a Samsung S2 Galaxy Skyrocket (SGH-I727) on the AT&T network. I set my phone into download mode, opened Odin3 v.1.85 and selected the .tar file I downloaded off this forum to root the device. Well after about 30 mins of Odin being stuck with the "<ID:0/009> SetupConnection.." prompt I figured it froze up or something. Well I restarted everything and and now my phone just goes straight into Odin mode with the error "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again." I'm trying to reload the .tar and it is still doing the same thing...
I'm a complete noob at this! Will someone please help me out with really simple detailed instructions on how I can get my phone working again? I will do anything in return!!!!
1st poster in distress! Shoot me an message with your email and I'll walk you through what to do or if you have ever used Skype on your pc I can assist.

Just so you know, reflashing it will work. Sometimes it takes a few tries. Just make sure repartition is not checked, only reboot. click pda and select the CWM tar. Just make sure the device is recognized in the com port before you push start.

Cool, thanks for helping!
Use odin and flash the sammobile image it will wipe everything but should fix the issue
CM9 Skyrocket
Sometimes its as simple as rebooting your computer, open Odin as admin, select your tar under PDA, connect your phone, make sure com is lit up and flash. My windows machine gets freaky like that sometimes and just fails or sits there doing nothing. Driver issue I assume even though they are there. I've encountered that error a few times trying to flash in Odin. No worries. These guys will get you back up. Good luck!

Got it! Working on downloading the .tar file from sammobile right now.
You mentioned different versions of the OS like ICS and 4.0... Which one do I want? LOL and where do I get it? I'm assuming its different than the firmware correct?

Thats a personal choice. Currently there are many different roms floating around but it depends on what you want.
Deciding on which to get is a matter of 2 simple questions for me: Do you want to be up to date, since ICS is the new hottest, thing (sexier UI IMO, some app issues, but overall feel wise. it makes the phone feel so much better, and fits the sleek profile, but lets not have me go on about aesthetics lol.
Or do you want functionatilty, extra options, overclocking (changing clock speeds) and things like that, currently we can only do that on 2.3.5/6 (Gingerbread, also known as GB)
I personally like ICS. Sometimes the Skyrocket just has to be sexy than the powerhouse e-beast that it is. That will happen whenever the Official ICS comes out

You don't need the sammobile tar unless you're returning to stock. If you wanna just be stock rooted, flash CWM in odin. Make a nandroid backup. Then put the superuser zip on the sd card and flash it in CWM.
If you wanna run a custom rom from our dev section, just flash CWM, make a backup and then flash the rom which will already be rooted

I just wanted to make sure that I got him back on the upgrade path to ics if he wants and the tar file saved me so I can verify it personally. Don't want to trip his counter.

Yeah I know the sammobile tar works, I found it a while ago and have been telling people to use it.
If your entire life is on it, I'd take the time to backup your important files, so you don't lose them!
