Hey everyone,
So my Captivate (I897) got screwed up running Slim Bean 2.9 (JB 4.1.2), then the touchscreen stopped working, so I decided to reset the phone using Odin 1-click, using the packages here: <http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1300843>. Anyway, I did this twice: I did it once with the UKK (Gingerbread 2.3.5 [the second one]) build without bootloaders. When the phone wouldn't boot, and stayed stuck at the AT&T logo, I decided to use Odin again, using the UCKJ3 (Gingerbread 2.3.5 [the first one]) build with bootloaders. Now I'm stuck at the AT&T boot screen again, and nothing is changing. I can get to download mode, but what should I do from here?
Thanks,
thepwneddroid

I would suggest stock KK4 (found in the Dev section, 3rd post of the stickied). Also, make sure repartition is on (it should be by itself)
Be patient, the first boot can take a while!

Thanks for the suggestion, but it didn't work. I flashed the KK4 but I'm back to the AT&T Boot screen again. Any other suggestions?
I'm mostly a noob, but whenever I do this I use an Odin 1 click that takes me back to eclair. Did your phone come with Eclair? Would rolling back to a GB system instead of eclair cause this?

Yeah, try with Heimdall. Sometimes one works and the others won't. Remember that Odin won't run on the same USB port Heimdall installs it's drivers on.

After running any of those have you tried getting into recovery? If so you might try flashing a custom ROM or if nothing else a custom kernel for GB?

1: Haven't tried Heimdall. Good idea.
2: I've tried getting into recovery, but the screen never blinks or anything-- it just stays on the ATT screen without any sort of response or any sign of life other than that
3: I'm pretty sure that I had upgraded from Gingerbread, so I don't think that this would apply.
Thanks for your thoughts everyone. I'm short on time right now but maybe in a little bit ill be able to try these out. Thanks for your input!

Not true, you can flash straight to any firmware as long as your bootloader situation is all good.

(Ye you're right, i forgot how I flashed my brother's P3110 to official Jellybean using Odin but I was on CM10.)
But when flashing captivate to KK4 it must first be in the base, the ROM make sure if the PDA is compatible to the next firmware

So I tried the one-click you posted, as well as Heimdall. The screen still stays on the ATT logo :crying:
However, I just noticed something on my computer; it seems the phone is showing signs of life, just not on the screen (still stuck at that beautiful ATT screen); Windows seems to momentarily recognize the phone, but then shows the error message that I'll post as an attachment.
Some of the Captivates do not like the one clicks. So try flashing through the regular Odin this firmware. (it does contain bootloaders, so flash at ur own risk). http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19587108
U can get Odin3 v1.83 here... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=33577757
When flashing any firmware that contains bootloaders, be sure ur pc/laptop has a constant power source, u have a reliable usb/micro usb cable, use a usb port in the back of the pc (not a hub), and don't let anything disconnect the cable during the flashing of the bootloaders (boot.bin and sbl.bin). The possibility of a hard brick comes in when there is a bad bootloader flash, mix matched bootloaders, etc. And once u have the GB KK4 bootloaders there is no need to flash any bootloaders again....ever.

Hi I had odin stuck at setup connection... it was like a few mins so I unplugged then I tried to get into download mode but it said something about kies so i flashed hemidall one click and now im back to stock just wondering why it happened? I don't wanna attempt again without knowing the problem, I had all the files (4) all loaded into odin properly in the right locations why???
i was so scared i thought i bricked my new phone!!
It happened because odin is very finicky... The good thing is long as you're comfortable with the one clicks you can do anything you were attempting with odin

That seems like a very round about way... Just one click bhud's package with cwm, reboot into recovery, factory reset/wipe/format everything (expect sd card), flash vb-final (per OP), (after the 10 min. soak in) flash lightning

Do a search for the guide on Heimdall that bassmanjames wrote. It is thoroughly written. Or try again with ODIN.
FIXED- I found the stock ODIN Rogers file rooted and that got me going.
The unbrick ROM does NOT work for ROGERS phones.
Hello Everyone,
Problem: Infuse will boot up and you see the ATT screen then 2 seconds later it sits on the SAMSUNG screen.
I have tried just about everything posted. I even tried the Infuse unbrick Odin pkg.
I CAN get into download mode. I can flash with ODIN. But upon reboot the phone goes back to the SAMSUNG screen.
How did I get here?
I had was running ZEUS. I had the issue with ppl not hearing me unless I turned speakerphone on and off for every call. I did a master reset. I had an issue with something else so I tried using a CWM flashable file which caused the problems needing the master reset.
I have tried many things but I am stuck.
I am trying to get an ODIN kernel that is moded like the V8 community kernel BUT all the links are broken.

I think I can get it working again with a kernel that will convert to ext4.
I can not get into the phone to delete or change the voodoo lagfix.
It seems that the boot partition is not working right.
I can flash with ODIN the unbrick file and it will install but upon reboot still stuck at samsung screen. I can NOT get into recovery either.
WTF? Did I make a brick?
Someone has to know how to fix this

Dude.. if you can't figure this out with those links that I posted, then I don't think that I can help you.. I can somehow manage to odin myself and bring myself back to a rom with those files and the respective rom. And I know that there are other people that can too... good luck bro.. I'm done..

Edit 2: Actually, if you need the 3e recovery file. I just remembered that you need that too. Haven't seen a mirror posted for that. Maybe that is the element that you are missing? If it is lemme know..

Flash any GB kernel that's rooted, but uncheck reboot.

I can only use ODIN files because I can ONLY get into download mode. I can NOT get into recovery to use any CWM files.
I have been trying to find ODIN kernel files but the ones available the download links are broken and I pm'd the OP as well as others that need the files but still no luck yet.
Can someone please post an ODIN kernel for me to try.
Edit:
Just to be clear I have now flashed the Unbrick ROM several times. It will load up and install. I get a green pass in ODIN but on reboot I see the ATT screen then stuck at the Samsung screen.
I have started to flash odin kernels from my captivate and tablet. They do get past the ATT screen and no Samsung screen but all I see is grainy stuff all over SO that tells me that changes are being made. I just need to try with an INFUSE ODIN kernel that might convert to ext4. I think that will solve the problem.
btw- thanks for the help...I am just ticked trying to get my phone to work.
I just need one damn file or small command to wipe the phone so it will take the stuff we are trying to push.

The unbrick ROM does NOT work for ROGERS phones.
I went through the same thing about a month ago on mine... I eventually found the same file you did... it was a pain and since then if I've bricked I've flashed ultimate unbrick then flashed stock Rogers and it resolves my issue... I keep both saved on my computer now

Simple Fix...
Use. GTG's ultimate unbrick.
Download http://www.mediafire.com/?i57410xodydx5l1
Follow the easy steps.
This will bring to how you bought the phone.
SECOND to all with BLACK screens.
Turn off the phone using power and volume up and down.
While plugging in the phone to the USB. Release power button.
This may take multiple tried, but you will get the download screen eventually.
Its all about timing.
YOUR PHONE CAN NOT BE BRICKED.
The down loader is not on the internal memory,
it is on a FLASH ROM separate from everything else.
Thanks to "secretasianman"

People need to remember that not everyone is using AT&T Infuse, gotta clarify that before posting guides.
And yeah keep the stock rogers rooted rom on your desktop, comes in handy for a quick return to stock if anything goes wrong.
I tried going back to gingerbread using Heimdall 1 click and it gives me a kernel error and failed. Now phone won't boot past the rogers logo. Any suggestions? No samsung screen. No green battery indicator when plugged in. Heimdall does detect the phone, and I've tried all USB ports and cords at my disposal. I use a mac so no access to odin. This is the first brick I haven't been able to get myself out of. Any help you would be appreciated
I am a gt i9000 owner, but can you get into download mode?

Embarking on a fresh new ROM without educating oneself can be very frustrating....since your on a Mac..with in the one click you say it reading your phone...can you get to download mode?

I can get into download mode.heimdall detects my phone. I tried both qksters and adam outlers 1 click. neither would take. If I upgrade heimdall version (as it tells me its out of date) it wont get through the initial connection to the phone. if I use with out upgrade it continues to fail on kernel download.
This is my second brick (first one was when trying to root it on my mac) First brick was fixed through odin at my work. Unfortunately I don't want to wait till monday to have a functioning phone

Let's step back here does out prompt you for drivers?
....you might have to make a stop at your office..
Try different USB ports, I used heimdall yesterday to go back to gingerbread (so I could get the boot loaders) and I had the same problem as you, I finally got it to work with a different USB port and even then it kept failing...but I just kept trying and eventually it went through
(Pull battery, place battery back in, hold volume up and down, plug USB in-should put you in download mode...even if you can't see anything on your screen you can still enter download mode)

Alright, here it is:
I encountered the same problems yesterday, heimdall doesn't work when flashing back to stock from ics, from what I've found, you must use gtg's ultimate unbrick, the pit repartitions everything and also resets your binary counter (cha-ching! ). Once completed, your phone will reboot and be stuck at "...installing default apk files..." for a few minutes, don't panic, let it run its course. From there on, you can do the usual root/flash cwm deal. .

Agreed. On my desktop (quad core 6 gb ram, watercooled blablablabl) can't run heimdal nor Odin to save its life.

I've flashed lots of roms and never had any issues. Also looked through the forum and know the basics about getting back to stock. I'm no expert, but I have a decent idea what I'm doing. I do appreciate a forum you can ask questions though and have people help out when your stumped. I did what i could from the tools I have at my disposal here, and ran into some problems. I'm not yelling SOS, just asking for some tips as what I have tried hasn't worked. All the same I do appreciate everyones opinions and help they provide. THat's what makes this forum great.
why would you need to heimdall if you are on a rogers infuse? Isn't that for AT&T phones only?

I do appreciate a forum you can ask questions though and have people help out when your stumped. I did what i could from the tools I have at my disposal here, and ran into some problems. I'm not yelling SOS, just asking for some tips as what I have tried hasn't worked. All the same I do appreciate everyones opinions and help they provide. THat's what makes this forum great.

why would you need to heimdall if you are on a rogers infuse? Isn't that for AT&T phones only?

Because I don't have access to a PC for Odin, and the at&t should work to get me out of brick state. I currently can't get past rogers boot screen

I don't have recovery.. otherwise I certainly would have
Hello, I am a long-time viewer of xda but a new member, this is my first post.
(and yes, i looked for a similar theard. i could not find one.)
So, onto the problem.
I flashed Infinitum 1.1.1 to my Infuse using cwm recovery. I noticed problems right off the bat when after i had installed the zip, i rebooted into recovery then it got stuck on the samsung logo and i had to pull the battery (a normal event when flashing this rom) So when i pulled the battery and booted into recovery to try again, the cwm recovery was terribly screwed up. The top half of the screen was pixelated, and the navigation menu was off center. I was still able to use cwm to flash the rom successfully, But cwm remains srewed up.
So i tried to reflash cwm recovery using rom manager. but when i rebooted i was stuck in a recovery boot-loop that i had to get out of using odin.
I then flashed the rom again using the same procedure suggested by its developer, and it worked, but cwm is still acting as it was before. (the pixelated top half of the screen and the off center navigation menu. )
So can i get some help? i thought about removing cwm the using some other recovery. I also heard that cwm wont work on ics, but im unsure what it is.
Thanks in advance.
You don't have Gingerbread bootloaders. That's why recovery looks the way it does.
You need to Odin or Heimdall back to Gingerbread stock (I find Heimdall much easier for this) and then flash Entropy's DD kernel to get back into red recovery to flash Infinitum.

Yeah, ICS recovery doesn't play nice with Froyo bootloaders.
AFAIK, there is no way to get Gingerbread bootloaders without reverting to stock. With Heimdall it's an incredibly simple, and quick process. I just had to do it myself a couple nights ago

Yup, it'll work just fine
Just follow all the instructions for Heimdall to a T (there aren't many) and everything will be fine
Yeah...heimdal is the best way to get bootloaders...odin doesnt always do it and no custom rom includes them that i am aware of...
I had written detailed instructions for another person...ill try and find them and paste it here...
Also-dont use rom manager, that thing is known to cause bricks/bootloops so using it is asking for bad ju-ju lol

Have you tried flashing boot loaders?
Here is how to do it...
1) Download uclb3 heimdal by qckster
2) open the program
3) put phone in download mode
4) click flash (leave program open when finished DO NOT CLOSE)
5) after it finishes and your phone reboots, put the phone back in download mode and reconnect to PC
6) click flash bootloader on the heimdal program you left running
7) flash, let reboot and your problems should be gone
Download mode instructions
1) pull battery
2) put battery back in
3) hold volume up + down
4) connect phone to PC with USB cable *don't let go of volume*
Just because you were on gingerbread previously does nit mean you have ginger bread boot loaders...I had ginger bread since the first leaks and did not have boot loaders until a month or two ago when I flashed them using those steps above...
Good luck!

Thank you for posting the guide. I literally just got done flashing GB bootloaders to my Infuse because of the rainbow Recovery when I'm on ICS. I used Odin though and used GB loader that a member posted in the AOKP Uniporn thread. I was scared but there really isn't anything to be afraid of. I tried using Heimdall but dang that was nerve racking because I was trying to use it on Mac and it wouldn't let me do the flash.

Good deal, glad you got it sorted out. And to clear up some confusion that is in this thread: you don't have to flash an entire Gingerbread rom to get the bootloaders. We all have our preferred ways of doing it, but you CAN flash just the bootloaders.
Here is both a Heimdall and an Odin way to get JUST the bootloaders. That's all that is necessary for someone who has rainbow distortion issues on an ICS or Gingerbread rom.:
See the third post (HERE) in Entropy512's Unofficial CM9 thread for instructions on how to flash just the bootloaders using the Heimdall command line. Or, see the answer to question 1.) in the FAQ of the rooted UCLB3 Odin thread which is HERE.

Heimdall is one way to get the bootloaders, and here's how I did it.:
heimdall flash --primary-boot boot.bin --secondary-boot Sbl.bin
The second part of your statement isn't true. Odin doesn't do it only when the user can't figure out how to use Odin.
thank you everyone.
Being a creature of habit i ended up flashing to rom and bootloaders using odin. that did indeed fix CWM right up.
GB loader

I am trying to get those GB Bootloaders. Would you be able to provide them ? or to provide the AOKP Uniport thread ?

Unfortunately I haven't had this device for over 3 years now. You'll have to do some searching for that.

I rooted and put a octane 2.x rom on her phone 9 months ago. Today she said everything started acting up. Radio quit, would not connect. All the apps force closed. She kept getting an error saying GoLauncher needs to be re-installed so she went back to the ics launcher that comes with the room. No apps would work at all.
I came home and booted into recovery (Clockwork) and tried to do a restore. Now it's stuck at the boot up screen. I've done a battery pull and it still does it. This is not my phone and I'm not well versed with it. It took me 11 hours root/rom it last June.
I do not know adb shell. I tried, but I just don't think I have a strong enough computer background. I've rooted my old Thunderbolt, my Transformer Prime and her phone.
If I could get to recover I'd do a wipe and re-install the rom. I still have Heimdall, but I do not remember how to use it. I bricked it when I rooted it the first time, that's why it took so long.
I will be searching while this thread is up. She needs her phone ASAP b/c she interviewed for a job today and she's expecting/hoping for a call.
Follow the guide in this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1358498
Basically put your phone in download mode and click on one of Heimdall versions to get your phone back to factory. Click on the bootloader option as well in Heimdall.

Is there an option to NOT go back to factory un rooted? It took me so much time to root it, I don't want it to all be a waste. Stock rooted would be fine.
There is a heimdall version that will get you rooted and factory. Flash that version. That version was by eollie, in the second post, second link. Or you can flash the Heimdall stock rom and later flash with Heimdall AntonX kernel to get it rooted. All in the link above, so read it all the way down.

I give no credit until it's been proven. You'd [apparently] be amazed at how many people brick their phones or get exactly what you just described by flashing our ROMs on the wrong phones.
