[Q] Considering in purchasing the p8 max for USA use. - Huawei P8max

A few questions and concerns..
1. Data connection - will be using it on (simple mobile) as simple mobile is a t-mobile connectivity how's the connection for t-mobile users? Is anyone using simple mobile?
2. Usage - any complaints on how it performs on a day to day basis?
3. (not that important but nice to see) **coming from a current nexus 6 user** Unlocking/roms - reading up on this category I see that unlocking and rooting is possible. Has there been any talks or in the works of development of roms?
All in all would like to hear some pros and cons from you guys who already have the device and using it on a daily. As I said I am a nexus 6 user at the moment no complaints but I essentially would like a bigger device hence the p8 max. I've always wanted but never got a chance to purchase an xperia z ultra which is 6.8 inch device as well but it is years old now and as of right now the closest to my liking is the p8
max.
So let me know what you guys think of the p8 max thanks

1: T-Mobile uses GSM bands if my memory serves me well; thus 4G/LTE should work without a hitch.
2: The device was overly hyped - it does NOT offer 2 days of heavy usage. 1 hand usage is hampered by the size, but other than that, it's fast & fluid.
3: unlocking is ok as long as you login with your facebook account; using regular email registration will not work.
HOWEVER
there will be NO "original" development of the p8max, not wihout very heavy reverse-engineering or hacking & until Huawei releases the proper opensource bits (including kernel source).
They did release the kernel source, but:
- it's an old 1.0 version from the 30th of June
- it is largely incomplete, as Huawei has deleted a significant portion of the code which is related to HiSi bits. You can't even build the kernel using the default config in its current state, much less even configure it.
As this is in direct violation of the GPLv2, I raised this issue to Huawei support on several occasions, with no response.
Unfortunately gpl-violations.org is no longer active so I have no idea how to escalate the topic at this moment.

I have this on T-Mobile US beast of a phone HOWEVER IT ONLY GETS HSPA+ AND CANT FIGURE PROPER SETTINGS FOR INTERNET OR PIC messaging TO WORK SO phone is very frustrating on T-Mobile

I just bought a P8max here in China.
It is easy ti install everything including Google Play Store.
Here in China if you want to use Google Play Store you need to use a VPN.
This phablet is wonderful. I have owned and used previously a Samsung Tab 3, a Google Nexus 7 (2013), and a HuaWei X1.
Better than all of them. Much better.
This phone has so much memory at 64 GB and I added a 64GB micro SD Card. I will use all this memory for backing up photos I take with a fancy DSLR camera.
I wanted a small tablet and the phone was extra. I can't tell you how good it is.
Yes it comes with Chinese bloatware, but for me the secret isvto install from Play Store another launcher. I use Nova Launcher. With this you can hide all Chinese stuff. Don't worry about space as this phone has so much space.
I will try to use in the US on AT& T. I hope it works. But here in China it is tops.
After this experience I would never buy a Samsung or Nexus. This blows all away with specs.
I do not take a lot of pictures with this, but the few I do take are fine.

Then you are lucky, I have been letting my phone completely drain these first few cycles, and right now with fairly heavy usage I unplug at 9am and have to plug back in about 5-8pm the next day. By heavy usage screen all the way up, youtube ~30min to a hour and a half daily, pandora streaming to a chromecast ~4-8 hours daily, multiple checks on social networking and emails throughout the day, misc web browsing ~1-2 hours daily. The thing that I have found to kill the battery the fasted is youtube, it zaps about 10-30% of the battery in itself.

Has anyone tried this phone on AT&T network? I heard the phone is not compatible with AT&T 4G LTE band? I will be using wifi 80% of the time so I hope 3G is available.
1. Any network issue when using google map/navigation?
2. Any ways to add missing LTE bands?

I am using it on AT&T. There is no LTE. It works just fine though on HSPA/HSPA+/3G. I live in Chicago, and there are no issues with the network. It's plenty fast.
There is no way to add missing LTE bands from what I know.

Nice to see another Chicago user.
T-Mobile HSPA+. It's OK...wish I had the LTE but I've compared real world usage compared to my LTE device and am surprised the difference isn't as big as I thought it'd be.
Needless to say when the Sony Z6 is released I'll be back to the Ultra!

Not sure he did because I actually bought the phone from him! For what it's worth I'm using it on ATT and the HSDPA+ speeds are excellent. I had an LTE Note5 before this and the difference is just not noticeable in my usage.
I had issues with MMS as well at first then noticed the default APN settings didn't have any MMS or sms proxy info in them. I updated and have had no issues since. I would guess that t mobile is a similar issue but that's worth double checking with someone.

I'm gonna pull the trigger and buy it on eBay I found a 701L into version . I'm mostly around WiFi anyway. But I know most folks data on T-Mobile is fine. You just gotta find the right APN settings like you did. What version do you have ?

Not hardly. The Captivate is still a beast to be contended with - and we can overclock our Captivates past 1.2GHz as well. The screen size is something we can't contend with but honestly I had the 4.3 inch Evo and switched to the Captivate and much prefer the 4 inch screen to the 4.3 inch one. I have big hands and still had difficulty typing on the Evo. I have no such problems with the Captivate and I can only imagine how much worse it is on a 4.5 inch screen. In terms of software updates though, it is possible we won't see Gingerbread now and most likely have 0% chance of Honeycomb without a community port.
I really doubt it, considering there is no such thing as TRUE 4g yet.
4g!? I would kill for 3g! They dont have 3g wide spread enough. Good luck finding 4g. Maybe if you are in New York or LA. Dont count on it in flyover country.

That doesn't mean it is true 4G...they just include HSPA+ in the mix now. At&T is still working on a 4G network while having HSPA+ capability. And since we own the Captivate, the T-mobile network doesn't really matter.

Well that is news to me, i guess i stand corrected. Thanks for the article.
In early december LifeHhacker posted an article saying the ITU was not including HSPA+ in 4G, which is what I was basing my statement on. That being said, HSPA+ speeds are not what the ITU outlined as 4G speeds. ITU claimed that 4G was anything above 100Mbps on a mobile data network and 1Gbps on wifi, which HSPA+ has not reached or even come close AFAIK.

That's why I like living in DFW. Dallas is home to at&t. Good 3g everywhere. And cause it's their home, probably the best 4g area.

Which one makes the Captivate obsolete? It's obsolete only if 4G is something you want to use daily and is available to you. 3G is plenty fast enough for whatever my uses are without destroying my battery life.
Samsung Infuse serves the 4.5 inch crowd. I would never want a phone that big and there are plenty people with my same attitude.
HTC Inspire is a rebranded HTC Desire HD. Pretty much a 2010 phone which is at most equivalent but universally seen as lower on the Android chart.
Motorola Atrix is the only one I would give it to that would make the Captivate obsolete on AT&T. Very good specs all around.
It would seem like only the Motorola phone is making the Captivate obsolete so it isn't as doom and gloom as it seems. Nothing wrong getting beat by a single better phone after 6 months.

We get great 3G in Denver too usually but some towers went out in my neighborhood in the past few weeks and its really sucked. Like 100Kbps down and 1.7Mbps up because of the tower overload on the downstream. I don't care though, they waived my entire bill for the month because of it. We have 8 towers in a 5 mile radius and 4 of them have been down since late November and another one went down yesterday. In my place in Aurora, where Sprint barely had a signal, at&t was getting 5Mbps down and 1.8Mbps up. Ironically now that I canceled Sprint and moved, I get 3 bars of 4G in my new house. :/

no idea if this renders the captivate obsolete or not but this is off www.yahoo.com page http://news.yahoo.com/s/nf/20110105/bs_nf/76777 they make mention of Motorola's Atrix 4 from AT&T
For those grandfathered in for the 3g unlimited data, will you actually dismiss the 3g unlimited to pay extra on the 4g?
Will we be forced to go 4g if you get a 4g phone? Can we still stay with the 3g unlimited plan if opted?
I don't really think a lot of ppl really need 4g, yet... And I tether a lot on my laptop.

@boborone
ok....but you see my point. Are you going to give up your unlimited data for capped data on 4g?
With that much usage, do you have any complaints about the 3g bandwith? I'm sure for the average user, 3g is fine.
BTW 3day usage? Really? ..and I thought I was a porn freak... j/k
no way.
still a beast hardware wise and have a beautiful screen.
Nice size....good combination of being really thin but still having nice heft and not feeling cheap. Some people have to have the shiniest newest toys but for most this phone should have no problem staying relevant into 2012 for those who have it on 2 year contract.
of the phones mentioned in the line up the atrix was the only one that turns my head with its dual core processor. Camera is secondary for me on a phone so no biggie but was disappointed to see it was 5mp and not 8mp (i believe the atrix is/was the olympus which was originally rumored to pack the 8mp). The other interesting thing with the Atrix is they seem to be on the ball with marketing and some very interesting accessories (particular docking stations).
The only hitch i see right now with the Atrix is that its listed to come with 2.2 installed. I could be wrong but my understanding is that Froyo can't fully utilize the dual core processor so it may not provide any substantial benefit until updated to gingerbread and we all know how updates can go so who knows what beastly competitors may be out there by the time it can fully utilize its dual processor potential.
The other two phones mentioned were pretty uninspiring.
As sterile as IOS has been i am definitely interested to see what they do in 2011. I think they will be more agressive in the face of some of the monsters being pitted against the iphone. At the least i think we see some nice storage options 64gb or possibly larger which even with the sterile ios would be enticing for those who have a lot of media they want to pack on their device. While i don't think it will have widgets.....I do think they will finally give in and have a better notification system and customizable lock screen.
There will be a flurry of great phones hit in 2011 and while they may make the captivate less inspiring or impressive to users it certainly won't be obsolete. (i am off contract with my captivate so it will take something pretty special to make my lock in a new 2 year). At the speed things are going no device is likely to be at the top of the list for very long before the next best thing arrives.
I'd pay an extra ten bucks like sprint does. My wife who doesn't tether has done 1200 mb so far this month. Lots of down time at our jobs.

If you've already seen the Xiaomi M1 announcement about a month ago, well, forget it, because Xiaomi has already made some significant changes since then. What we've just learned from today's Beijing launch event is that the M1 -- now officially "Xiaomi Phone" -- no longer packs a 1.2GHz dual-core chip; instead, it's been given a bump to a Qualcomm MSM8260 SoC, thus becoming the first Chinese phone to sport a 1.5GHz dual-core chip. As part of the Snapdragon package, the phone is also powered by a powerful Adreno 220 graphics processor, which will no doubt make good use of the phone's 1GB RAM and a staggering 4GB ROM. Oh, and that ¥2,600 (about US$410) price tag? It's now ¥1,999 ($310), and will be available for pre-order on August 29th for October delivery. Read on for more surprises!
Update: We've just been informed that there will also be a 1.2GHz version available for an even cheaper price!
Update 2: Our hands-on post is up!
Xiaomi Phone with MIUI OS: a $310 phone with 1.5GHz dual-core SoC and other surprises
Unlike most phones with a 1400mAh or 1500mAh battery these days, the Xiaomi Phone gets a ginormous 1930mAh cell instead, and we're promised to get two days worth of real-life usage out of it -- CEO Lei Jun emphasised the "real-life" part, so we shall see. Another surprise -- albeit an odd one -- is that this phone supports both GPS (with A-GPS) and Russia's GLONASS, meaning President Medvedev can navigate around his country just fine while updating his Weibo Twitter.
As for the rest, you get a 4-inch 480 x 854 LCD courtesy of Sharp (LCD for better outdoor performance, and 4 inches for Asian ergonomics), three touch buttons below the screen, a customisable "Mi key" (camera shutter or Weibo; long press for home screen), an eight megapixel camera with an F2.4 lens, and a dual antenna design that plays well with any kind of grip (obviously a little wink at Apple). Dimension-wise we're looking at 125mm x 63mm x 11.9mm, weighing 149g or 5.3 ounces -- just a tad heavier than the iPhone 4. As for accessories, we're told that there will cases in at least seven bright colors, along with spare batteries of the same set of colors (that's how awesome Xiaomi is).
Of course, let's not forget the real star here: the MIUI (pronounced "mee-you-eye") OS, which is a low-level custom UI based on Android 2.3.5. There's no question about MIUI's rapidly increasing popularity in recent years (Xiaomi quoted a user base of about 500,000), but if you insist on trying other Android flavors on Xiaomi's hardware, then you'll be pleased to know that this phone lets you flash whatever firmware you like.
If you're starting to doubt the Xiaomi Phone's reliability, you shouldn't -- we've been told that this phone's been thoroughly torture-tested in the lab, simulating two years worth of usage. "This is why we take much longer than shanzhai factories to make a phone," said the CEO. We'll see about that in two months time, really looking forward to it.

Are you still happy with your Nexus-S ?

I have to say I am still pretty happy with my Nexus-S 4G. I am loving the stock/vanilla Android OS, after trying many different ROM's and launchers, I always seem to go back to the "pure" launcher and style. I do have the Oxygen ROM which is the base Android OS just tweaked and stripped to be very fast with good battery life.
I was tempted to get the Sprint Galaxy S2, while it is a great phone, probably the best Android device for sale right now, it just did not seem night and day radically better than my Nexus-S. The S II still runs Gingerbread and looks so similar to my Nexus I don't see the need to get that phone right now. And my Nexus is not slow by any means. I am eagerly waiting for the reveal of the next Nexus-Three device with "Ice Cream", that would be the first to tempt me away, or at least get Ice Cream running stock on my Nexus-S.
If there is any beef with this phone, it is the radio/network, and Sprint's poor 3G service lately. Hopefully we get good news next month when the CEO of Sprint discusses the future network plans on Oct 7th.

Yeah I'm not complaining at all about it. I was running Pete's bb rom before this and his rooted stock before that. Now, I'm running miui. I thought, coming from the preference of vanilla ui, that who in the hell would want a rom that's a cross bastardized version of ios and touchwiz? I am/was under the thought that ios was very limited on what could be done with it.
Miui is really starting to grow on me. I'm almost ashamed to admit I'm getting the itch to get a new phone after my ns4g and it being the iPhone. I definitely want the nexus 3 too but those phones will probably be released very close to each other.
Unfortunately, I will have to deal with the looks and comments from my old lady, whenever I get a new phone. I will not give my ns4g to her because I see how she treats phones. I suppose one thing that would keep her quiet is if I got her an iPhone too. About 1500 for two new phones, full price, not eligible for upgrades yet. Sigh, it's only money right?
Yes.

Nexus s is my first REAL smartphone
I've had or used extensively a mt3g, epic 4g, evo 4g, evo shift 4g, Droid x, huawei ascend 2 and an iPhone 3gs and of those I like my nexus the best. However, my mother in law just got a sensation 4g and if I'm honest, I think I'd enjoy that better.

IMO, Nexus S is a piece of outdated hardware, since day 1, when it was release last year December 2010, at that very same time its brothers/cousins have been having way much better spec than it does.
the pure Android experience was not as fun as promised by the Nexus One hyped owners promised
So my next device will most definitely not be Nexus 3, which is yet another outdated antique, its SGS2 brothers/cousins has waaaaaaaaay better hardware than it does.
and we all know by now that support across Samsung devices is thriving like CM7 and all the countless of customized kernels and mods that you can find
The 2nd reason why i picked Nexus S, was simply because it was unlocked and works on AWS signal
there was nothing at the time, else i'd have most likely gone for a better phone
the lack of the SD slot is a major drawback, can't do things as i used to, i'm not having fun as i used to, all because of the missing space, the phone is just a phone right now, can't enjoy it as it ran out of space all the time, no matter how much stuff i send up to the clouds, there is never enough space for me
clouds is not cheap either if you don't have an unlimited internet for the phone
and the 3G speed is not that great to send up and down 500 meg of data whenever you feel like playing another game, or watching another movie
i'm sure this phone is more than enough or even great for most people, but i'm not most people

I personally prefer android because of the ease of customization that can be done even without rooting. iOS devices are great, don't get me wrong. I'm not an iHater, but for me and my uses they don't work as well as Android. The reason iOS is so great is that it just works. Period. From the first boot to the last, an iOS device is going to work exactly like Apple intended it to.
The Android Vs. Apple debate is much akin to the Win Vs Mac debate. Apple builds its software to work on its hardware and it does, thats the reason I buy Mac laptops; in the 6 years I've owned them I've had three issues two of which were hardware failures and one was my wife's fault (she spilled soda on the keyboard). All three of the issues were solved on the spot by Apple with a total of 5 hours and $0.00 of my time and money lost to waiting and repairs. Five hours. When my wife's Compaq laptop got its THIRD motherboard recall in TWO years it took me three hours on the phone to find out I had found out about the recall one week late and was then told it would cost me $400 dollars and 4-6 weeks to get it. I ended up having to manually recover what data I could from her hard drive and the rest was lost.
Windows machines allow the user to do much more personal customization and give them much more choice in terms of hardware but the cost of that is a much higher level of system failure. Its the same way with android. I can't begin to account for the hours I've wasted setting up and customizing my wife's and my phones only to have issues come up and its all lost. I've lost count of the number of times I've had to run terminal commands to get my phone to even boot. If I had an iOS device, that probably wouldn't happen but I'd also not feel like my phone UI looks and runs like I want it to.
In a rather long-winded and round-a-bout way, the point I'm getting at is that if you want a phone that simply works, makes calls, gets texts, so and and so forth then iPhone is a great choice. But if you want a phone that you can hack to bits and make to be a reflection of your personality then Android is you choice. That's my opinion at least.
yes and no
leagues happier than my iphone but some what less impressed by others android phones. But hey it was free.
I don't understand everyone complaining of a lack of SD slot. It mounts so you can use it as a portable drive, it also allows a much higher I/O. There's not one thing that a removable SD card would allow me to do more than what I can do now except potentially lose a tiny piece of my phone.
sent from my nexus s on a kang from simms
the internal SD doesn't have enough space, it just as simple as that
13GB fills up in a blink of an eye
I'm still happy with it for the most part. The only serious gripe I have at this point is RAM; it doesn't have enough to deal with the number of apps that like to run in the background eating up those tiny 2-5 MB chunks these days, and it doesn't always dump them from memory efficiently enough to play memory-intensive games nicely without first going in and killing processes. Also, it just came back from its second Best Buy repair, so... a little touchy hardware-wise perhaps.
I like vanilla Google and am not a huge fan of rooting and modding, though, so I'd be reluctant to move away from the Nexus line. I just hope the next one has a lot more RAM, and keeps a larger portion of it free at any given time for gaming. And is maybe less prone to needing to be fixed. >.>
RAM is not that bad, i can manage to constantly keep 75Mb free
is hard to trip enough Widgets to make that much free RAM
and make sure to not leave any app/game running in the background

The problem is when apps and games do run in the background, and there's no way to close them completely without going through task manager. Granted that's as much a complaint about the apps in question as about Android itself, but there will always be apps that don't behave properly in all respects. The OS should be able to handle them without user intervention.

Just looking for some insight on phones coming out. I love my nexus s 4g. The gs3 sounds good.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using xda app-developers app
From all the phones I've used, I liked the Galaxy Nexus most (although I do prefer the Nexus S for being able to use UMS transfer mode, having higher sound quality and not having an oversized screen).
Selling my Nexus and buying the S3 was one of the decision I regretted due to:
-not getting fast updates and variates of stock roms like the Nexus
-poor built quality, even comparing to the Galaxy Nexus
-the stock Jelly Bean on the Nexus was a better and smoother experience for me than Touchwiz on a quadcore processor.
Seems like you are on Sprint, I heard the CDMA version of Galaxy Nexus have very poor radio so skip that, not to mention they always get updates a few months later than the GSM version. But if you do plan to get another Samsung phone, such as a CMDA S3, ask in their forum first if they have any signal issues.
So maybe the S3 is your best choice if you don't mind the built quality. The renamed HTC One X for Sprint may be a good choice, but honestly I am used to how open and easy it is to root and unlock Samsung phones, I can't deal with HTC and Sense, but I know I'm biased.
Rumor is Google will announce the new LG Nexus the end of October, but I guess its too late by then and the CDMA version if available would probably be till next year anyway. The LG Optimus G is supposed to have excellent built quality. Sprint will be selling it, it's basically a flagship device, the the Qualcomm S4 Pro chip is supposed to be super fast, they'll be a 13MP camera (for Sprint model, AT&T is 8MP), 32gb of storage, 2GB ram, etc. It seems like people like to slate the LG brand, but on paper it looks like a very compelling device.
Or maybe its time to move to GSM network where there are more choices to choose from. I'm looking to move away from Samsung too since their built quality of recent phones has really turn me off. I wouldn't blame you if you get an iPhone5 and resell it to get an Android phone and some profit in the process.

This. my next phone will be on a gsm network and will not be purchased from a carrier. I'm tired of my phone being held prisoner. And the part about the CDMA updates is true. Sprint got both ICS and JB several months after t-mo. If you want early updates, this is the carrier to have a subsidized. They get push notifications as soon as google pushes the source to AOSP. Personally I'd still rather buy it from google directly, but there's nothing wrong with a t-mo subsidized device either. The updates will come at the same time.
You can check the review for the LG Optimus G by mobiletechreview on youtube. But it seems the Sprint version won't be available until nov 11th, but preorder open at nov 1st. The ATT version seems better though due to having microsd slot and from experience ATT have faster network and faster LTE too. The Sprint version has 13mp camera though.
If you are used to the Nexus S substantial dev support (after all these freakin' years!) then the only natural path is really the Galaxy Nexus. Even the support for the SII has slowed down. I suspect it will be the same with the S3. I cannot stand mfg overlays like TW or Sense.
Can you hold onto your NS and wait to see what the new Nexus is all about?
I'm waiting for the next Nexus phone -since it should be right around the corner. If it wasn't for that though, I'd be looking at the GSIII, Razr Maxx, or G Nex.

Nexus S (GSM i9020a)
Paranoid Android (2.2.2 - 4.1.2)
Marmite Kernel (5.0 - Bedalus)
Ondemmand (Screen On) (800/100)
Ondemmand (Screen Off) (400/100)
Deep Idle (N/A - CFQ)
BLX (98 - Inverted Apps)
Black Exodus (Stock Voltage)
No doubt that nexus family will continue a tradition with a excelent quality new device.
However my biggest disappointment of nowadays phone development companies is a price of our beloved engineering jewels. Any thoughts. How mutch it will cost? I'm a big enthusiast of high end smartphones but personally not ready to sacrifice my halfmonth salary.

Seemed more like a question to me, so moved to Q&A.
Lg makes great phones. Loved lg! Hate Samsung though. I'm going for either the photon Q(its a monster) or this new nexus. I juuust got my nexus from a friend.... had a Samsung transform. Horrible hardware, phone was verry verrry durable though. Masks sure you test it out before and make sure it doesn't randomly brick like most of today's hardware

You should use more high end Samsung devices beside writing them off, the transform is a very old and low end phone on cdma network. Trying to compare it to the Photon Q is like comparing a Ford Tempo to a Ferrari.
I got it when it was new, actually decent. Ask anyone and they will tell you that the s3 is plasticity. The s2 had a tendency to randomly brick because of the emmc freaking out, that's just to name a few. I wouldn't mind an s3, just saying the quality of Samsung has gone away. And if at all possible I'm going to avoid them, bad, no, horrible track record.

sorry for stealing the scene... i'm going to change my Nexus S in the next few weeks and i narrowed down the list of my wishes to the following 3 phones:
- Gnexus: would have to buy it used around the 300$ mark / will combine with a 2 years contract around 30$+
- Gnote: would buy it for 50$ on 2 years contract (30$)
- HTC One X: would get it for free on 2 years contract (30$)
What would you suggest me? i'm a Flash Addict fallen in love with paranoidandroid and JB and ATM my heart points toward the Gnote

Infocus M810/M810t thread, a $160 Oneplus One....two???

The Infocus M810t has almost the exact same specs as the Oneplus One, just a smaller battery. And it costs just $160. The Oneplus Two isn't that much of an increase from the Oneplus One either, if the user experience on this phone is good, this is half the price of a Oneplus One or almost 1/3 of a Oneplus two, so there would be no reason to go with a Oneplus if this phone does deliver on it's user experience. It's currently available here for $160:

Nothing stresses out the SD801 and 2GB of RAM, so for now the SD810 and 3GB is overkill.

Hrmm, that's weird indeed. Hopefully mine can get 4G. Otherwise, being 1900-only 3G would be a bit of a drag.
Just ordered one of these from Tinydeal, so will probably be a couple of weeks until its delivered (to UK). Previously had a Oneplus One and so the hardware appealed to be along with the fact its a little over £100 at the moment. Any review I've read has also said that the build quality is great, its built by one of the same contractors used by Apple and it reminds me of the new Sony Z5 premium. Has anyone seen any custom ROM development? As its uses a lot of the same hardware as the OPO I thought it may be possible. I've seen a quick root tutorial which I will probably use and also seen the stock system files to flash which is always handy to have just in case.

And interestingly, even though Gearbest lists it as supporting 700/900/1800/2100, the sticker on the back of the box only lists FDD bands 1 and 3 (2100 and 1800, respectively). BUT, it also says that it supports WCDMA 850/1900/2100, whereas Gearbest lists only 1900/2100. Interesting. I *did* get it from Gearbest.

As an aside - my M810T appears to have arrived pre-rooted.
I wonder, since the Snapdragon 801 supports way more LTE bands, if it would be possible to unlock the other LTE bands on this phone? I know that the OPO was able to do that... But I have a feeling the antenna might be a limiting factor?

Good for rooting, you shoud check baseband and see if it is the same as other unlocked band devices. For the customization, the inlife ui is hardcoded in the framework or is only a launcher and some bloat apps?

Baseband is M8974AAAAANPZM - that seems to match the baseband of the OnePlus One and LG G3, as far as I can tell from a quick google search? I'm not really sure about that kind of stuff. Edit - wait, the baseband ONLY shows M8974AAAAANPZM, nothing else... Other basebands seem to show more.
Inlife customization seems to be part of the framework... Settings and such don't appear to be stock Android settings. I ditched the stock launcher (Launcher+ - but it also comes with "EZ Launcher") in place of Nova... Can't seem to get SuperSU to install even though it's already pre-rooted (with Kingroot, which I'm not sure how much I trust).
Just downloading/installing the Lollipop update now. Initial KitKat Antutu score is 41,000... Not as high as the OPO but it's running pretty smooth for me so far.
If the hw component seems similar to opo is possible to try building something similar. For rooting try booting on cwm posted earlier in the thread and flashing supersu zip from here. Next week hope to receive my devices
It's rooted, but it was rooted with Kingroot which left the Kinguser app there. I don't want to use that as my root app, I want to use SuperSU, but it doesn't seem to work simply by installing it from the play store. I'm going to try unrooting the Kingroot version, since root seems to break OTA updates any way.
