If you've already seen the Xiaomi M1 announcement about a month ago, well, forget it, because Xiaomi has already made some significant changes since then. What we've just learned from today's Beijing launch event is that the M1 -- now officially "Xiaomi Phone" -- no longer packs a 1.2GHz dual-core chip; instead, it's been given a bump to a Qualcomm MSM8260 SoC, thus becoming the first Chinese phone to sport a 1.5GHz dual-core chip. As part of the Snapdragon package, the phone is also powered by a powerful Adreno 220 graphics processor, which will no doubt make good use of the phone's 1GB RAM and a staggering 4GB ROM. Oh, and that ¥2,600 (about US$410) price tag? It's now ¥1,999 ($310), and will be available for pre-order on August 29th for October delivery. Read on for more surprises!
Update: We've just been informed that there will also be a 1.2GHz version available for an even cheaper price!
Update 2: Our hands-on post is up!
Xiaomi Phone with MIUI OS: a $310 phone with 1.5GHz dual-core SoC and other surprises
Unlike most phones with a 1400mAh or 1500mAh battery these days, the Xiaomi Phone gets a ginormous 1930mAh cell instead, and we're promised to get two days worth of real-life usage out of it -- CEO Lei Jun emphasised the "real-life" part, so we shall see. Another surprise -- albeit an odd one -- is that this phone supports both GPS (with A-GPS) and Russia's GLONASS, meaning President Medvedev can navigate around his country just fine while updating his Weibo Twitter.
As for the rest, you get a 4-inch 480 x 854 LCD courtesy of Sharp (LCD for better outdoor performance, and 4 inches for Asian ergonomics), three touch buttons below the screen, a customisable "Mi key" (camera shutter or Weibo; long press for home screen), an eight megapixel camera with an F2.4 lens, and a dual antenna design that plays well with any kind of grip (obviously a little wink at Apple). Dimension-wise we're looking at 125mm x 63mm x 11.9mm, weighing 149g or 5.3 ounces -- just a tad heavier than the iPhone 4. As for accessories, we're told that there will cases in at least seven bright colors, along with spare batteries of the same set of colors (that's how awesome Xiaomi is).
Of course, let's not forget the real star here: the MIUI (pronounced "mee-you-eye") OS, which is a low-level custom UI based on Android 2.3.5. There's no question about MIUI's rapidly increasing popularity in recent years (Xiaomi quoted a user base of about 500,000), but if you insist on trying other Android flavors on Xiaomi's hardware, then you'll be pleased to know that this phone lets you flash whatever firmware you like.
If you're starting to doubt the Xiaomi Phone's reliability, you shouldn't -- we've been told that this phone's been thoroughly torture-tested in the lab, simulating two years worth of usage. "This is why we take much longer than shanzhai factories to make a phone," said the CEO. We'll see about that in two months time, really looking forward to it.

This thing is pretty awesome. Look at the price for the hardware people...$300...1.5Ghz dual core. Good camera, decent screen. Big battery, customizable....hell if it supports US 3G bands, that's make it an instant sell.

Can you put CM7 on it?

i'm assuming that means unlocked bootloader and superuser capabilities. and given the awesomeness of this phone it will be a /very/ short wait for cm7 to support this phone. i'm guessing the dev community will be huge if this phone delivers on it's promised awesomeness

I am extremely interested in this phone.
I find it interesting that the price point that this phone comes in at is just a little more then most of our new phones in the US with a 2 year contract!
Talk about getting ripped off!

If it doesn't have tons of ram i don't want it.
omg it makes me so sad to see this after ive only had my captivate for a month but imagine what the next year or two will bring!
Unless the samoled 2 is also a solar panel, I don't experience the best battery life...
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Probably gonna be bogged with RFS and and TouchWiz. If they bork the nexus S with RFS that will seriously suck. I know we can run lag fixes etc. but it would be nice to get a phone that doesn't need to be hacked just top be functional (totally would still root it, but its just the satisfaction of knowing that I wouldn't have to ^_^)
I'd still pick the Nexus S.
If the Captivate has such awful battery life, I can't imagine what a 1.2ghz processor and a 4.3" screen will do to it.
The Google Experience with a 4" screen is my dream phone. The S2 sure does look pretty though.

with all this extra power, bigger screen etc, I couldnt believe what kind of a battery it would need to be HALF DECENT.
Companies should stop competing in cpu wars, display wars etc and really revolutionize a battery that will last at least a full 24 hours with moderate usage.

Like Engadget said, these slides are 100% real from Samsung... they just used an image of a different device to get their point across. Not meant to be seen by the whole world.
Anyways, the device (which can be confirmed real by Engadget, BGR, AndroidCentral) is called the Samsung Elite: http://briefmobile.com/new-samsung-elite-specifications
It is the successor to the Galaxy S line and it's due in early 2011 for announcement.

Sounds reasonable, I was wondering if it's samsung advertising our a mock up of what might come next.
People around here are so argumentative over things where they have no facts. Also I don't get what people expect of a phone, I find battery life between meets expectations to excellent depending on what rom and modem I'm running.
And where did the notion that amoled displays hog power come from? that's the opposite of true, I don't know what the droid x is like but go buy an evo and check the battery life, it's far from good.
I'm excited about the nexus s and hope the rom and kernel port to the captivate, I just wonder if the modem will be a problem, I'm guessing it will be hsupa+ (4g) and wonder if the hardware is the same in that area and if the modem file will support the att 3g bands, or will a froyo captivate modem.bin work in gingerbread? I'll have to wait and see. As for my next phone I'll wait for a dual core device.

Leaving the Thunderbolt? Chime in and say bye.....

Looks like with Razr, Nexus, and Rezound coming out its bound to cut down traffic in the Thunderbolt forum. Feel free to chime in if you will be leaving and state forum you are leaving for.

well, verizon did grant me an early upgrade....
i already decided 'hell no' on the RAZR....
going back & forth with the nexus/rezound.. spec-wise i like the rezound more, but i like the screen size of the nexus....
basically though, i am going to wait until both phones are here & see how things go with them first. so i might end up staying with the ol' TB a bit longer.
I'm stuck between the razr and nexus. I gotta sell my tbolt first otherwise I'm sticking with it

I wont leave until my one year upgrade is up. And I may wait further if something really good is coming out soon.
gonna wait for quad-core phones, they are round the corner anyways
Hopefully they start to show up sometime in Q1 2012.
until then I keep my TB
Agreed. Dual core is only an incremental upgrade. I've compared my TBolt to an S2 and its not too different. I'm not even overclocked.
As long as CM9 is supported here, I'm not jumping anytime soon.

I'm with you man, very solid device and with MIUI available now I see no need to upgrade. A lot of developers are creating some amazing work for the bolt! New nexus is cool and I had the first one and loved it but I'm waiting too.
My wife is upgrading this month either the Razr or the Rezound. I am due for an upgrade in January. I am definately waiting to see the Nexus first. If it is $500, definately selling TB to buy Nexus off contract, just to save upgrade to quad core, which I think won't happen until the summer of 2012.

whenever quad-core is released, I have a feeling its going to be one of those last minute "surprise!.. we're releasing it next week!" sort of deal.
as for the TB, I've got someone offering me $300 for it(although with 9 cases & 5 batteries)... that's why I'm considering an upgrade(+ I have an upgrade available right now).
well I got my thunderbolt end of march so I got awhile. still very satisfied with my thunderbolt.
There's really no need to. I just got my TB in June and I'm very happy with it. Plus as other people have said I also won't be thinking of an upgrade until the quadcores come out. Hopefully a new quadcore HTC device will release soon because honestly I'm not feeling the Rezound at all. I think its rather ugly

Yeah, I will have to try to locate a non crappy "kickstand case" for any future phones....I use that thing constantly. Funny that it's about the one unique feature the tbolt has left in the verizon lineup, heh.
Ordered the Rezound today. Won't be home tomorrow so it will be here Wed.

Yeah I dont understand how a kickstand isnt already standard on every phone now developed. At least every new HTC phone. I use it every single day watching netflix vids on my lunch break.
I really want a nexus just for the increased screen space and AMOLED screen. I'm growing tired of the poor battery life with the TB and the thickness of it. But unless I can find a convenient way to prop up the nexus, or to get a reasonable sale on my TB, looks like she'll be with me for quite some time.

Exactly the same situation here. If Samsungs new device sucks then its definately gotta be the S. Just hoping that the Galaxy's screen isnt as big as the One X's one. It's just too much... :what:

Well, even though it has it critics, and I do go through periods of using AOSP (and prob will on the S once it's available and stable) I still think Sense is the best custom UI on Android. Simple really, SGS3 can't match that element
Sent from my HTC One S using xda premium
Supposedly its going to have a 1080p screen, to me this is a bad thing.
1) I bet it is bigger than the ONE S and I wasn't quite happy with the size of the ONE X
2) It takes more horse power to run it, so its processor and graphics may be higher but side by side performance will probably be similar due to it having to push more pixels about the place. Also.. 1080p.. on a phone... What's the F'in point??
First i'm 100% sure that Galaxy S III won't have 2gb of ram neither 1080p screen. Its a next generation and since theres obvious settlement betwen manufacturers you can expect same specs as One X. And i'm also pretty sure that it won't have SD card, every manufacturer stops using them, why should they use them, about removable battery i'm not sure, if new galaxy is gonna be thinner then i guess it will have non removable battery.
I think the S3 will have 4.7 screen, so its big, also display will be as good as X. About other specs - I suspect quad core processor, some good graphic component, rumors about 12mp camera.
But anyway, there are only rumors atm, and Im not fan of S2, so I will go for One S as soon as it avaible here

If it takes T-mobile US as long as it did to get the Galaxy S 2....i'm not waiting.
But then again, i don't want to wait. Im tired of Samsung's plastic devices, ugly touch wiz, and international Galaxy S3 will be different from the US Galaxy S3, which will hinder dev support.
Im sure the one s will have great dev support like the sensation. Every one S around the world will be the exact same and will run the same roms.
The only thing i was hating about htc phones was the bad slcd screen, so happy theres amoled now, and i dont care if its pentile.

kinda yes, I really like GS2 and SAMOLED Plus is great. But we still don't know if GS3 will be SAMOLED HD or SAMOLED HD Plus. It's most likely be the same size as One X, packing same or better CPU, probably same or better quality camera, and most likely missing things like notification light and noise canceling mic.

Same boat as @tf442. I have a "first month out" Vibrant and GPS has been abysmal from the get-go. I have flashed at least a dozen ROMS (probably more)from Bionix, Trigger all the way to ICS 4.0.4 and they vary, but still no where near other manufacturers GPS. I will not give $$$ to Samsung since they went on the pine in acknowledging any issues with GPS. That, and quit with FROYO. Not good for a top-end phone at the time.
I am eligible for upgrade now, but I don't think I am going to. I might wait out until mid to end-year to upgrade. I am pretty satisfied with my G2 still. Everyone swears it's a great backup phone, but I like it as my main phone all the same.

Upgrade Nov 1st

Just looking for some insight on phones coming out. I love my nexus s 4g. The gs3 sounds good.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using xda app-developers app
From all the phones I've used, I liked the Galaxy Nexus most (although I do prefer the Nexus S for being able to use UMS transfer mode, having higher sound quality and not having an oversized screen).
Selling my Nexus and buying the S3 was one of the decision I regretted due to:
-not getting fast updates and variates of stock roms like the Nexus
-poor built quality, even comparing to the Galaxy Nexus
-the stock Jelly Bean on the Nexus was a better and smoother experience for me than Touchwiz on a quadcore processor.
Seems like you are on Sprint, I heard the CDMA version of Galaxy Nexus have very poor radio so skip that, not to mention they always get updates a few months later than the GSM version. But if you do plan to get another Samsung phone, such as a CMDA S3, ask in their forum first if they have any signal issues.
So maybe the S3 is your best choice if you don't mind the built quality. The renamed HTC One X for Sprint may be a good choice, but honestly I am used to how open and easy it is to root and unlock Samsung phones, I can't deal with HTC and Sense, but I know I'm biased.
Rumor is Google will announce the new LG Nexus the end of October, but I guess its too late by then and the CDMA version if available would probably be till next year anyway. The LG Optimus G is supposed to have excellent built quality. Sprint will be selling it, it's basically a flagship device, the the Qualcomm S4 Pro chip is supposed to be super fast, they'll be a 13MP camera (for Sprint model, AT&T is 8MP), 32gb of storage, 2GB ram, etc. It seems like people like to slate the LG brand, but on paper it looks like a very compelling device.
Or maybe its time to move to GSM network where there are more choices to choose from. I'm looking to move away from Samsung too since their built quality of recent phones has really turn me off. I wouldn't blame you if you get an iPhone5 and resell it to get an Android phone and some profit in the process.

This. my next phone will be on a gsm network and will not be purchased from a carrier. I'm tired of my phone being held prisoner. And the part about the CDMA updates is true. Sprint got both ICS and JB several months after t-mo. If you want early updates, this is the carrier to have a subsidized. They get push notifications as soon as google pushes the source to AOSP. Personally I'd still rather buy it from google directly, but there's nothing wrong with a t-mo subsidized device either. The updates will come at the same time.
You can check the review for the LG Optimus G by mobiletechreview on youtube. But it seems the Sprint version won't be available until nov 11th, but preorder open at nov 1st. The ATT version seems better though due to having microsd slot and from experience ATT have faster network and faster LTE too. The Sprint version has 13mp camera though.
If you are used to the Nexus S substantial dev support (after all these freakin' years!) then the only natural path is really the Galaxy Nexus. Even the support for the SII has slowed down. I suspect it will be the same with the S3. I cannot stand mfg overlays like TW or Sense.
Can you hold onto your NS and wait to see what the new Nexus is all about?
I'm waiting for the next Nexus phone -since it should be right around the corner. If it wasn't for that though, I'd be looking at the GSIII, Razr Maxx, or G Nex.

im waiting for LG Nexus 4

Xiaomi mi-2 has better hardware than the s3! But you'll have to check if you can get it in the us and if its released at all! xD
I just read about it, dont know to much! Just wanted to help to expand the horizon!
Thanks for your input. But I'll just get the iPhone 5.....
Hahaha kidding
Thinking the lg nexus is sounding good.

Wait for the LGnex...
Nexus S (GSM i9020a)
Paranoid Android (2.2.2 - 4.1.2)
Marmite Kernel (5.0 - Bedalus)
Ondemmand (Screen On) (800/100)
Ondemmand (Screen Off) (400/100)
Deep Idle (N/A - CFQ)
BLX (98 - Inverted Apps)
Black Exodus (Stock Voltage)
No doubt that nexus family will continue a tradition with a excelent quality new device.
However my biggest disappointment of nowadays phone development companies is a price of our beloved engineering jewels. Any thoughts. How mutch it will cost? I'm a big enthusiast of high end smartphones but personally not ready to sacrifice my halfmonth salary.

I'd assume 199 with a upgrade

Huawei Ascend D Quad XL looks interesting .. similar to stock android, with a few cool addons. 3D home looks smooth too. Not sure how quick their support will be in terms of ota upgrades. If they can guarantee that, I'm sold..

Seemed more like a question to me, so moved to Q&A.
Lg makes great phones. Loved lg! Hate Samsung though. I'm going for either the photon Q(its a monster) or this new nexus. I juuust got my nexus from a friend.... had a Samsung transform. Horrible hardware, phone was verry verrry durable though. Masks sure you test it out before and make sure it doesn't randomly brick like most of today's hardware

You should use more high end Samsung devices beside writing them off, the transform is a very old and low end phone on cdma network. Trying to compare it to the Photon Q is like comparing a Ford Tempo to a Ferrari.
I got it when it was new, actually decent. Ask anyone and they will tell you that the s3 is plasticity. The s2 had a tendency to randomly brick because of the emmc freaking out, that's just to name a few. I wouldn't mind an s3, just saying the quality of Samsung has gone away. And if at all possible I'm going to avoid them, bad, no, horrible track record.

sorry for stealing the scene... i'm going to change my Nexus S in the next few weeks and i narrowed down the list of my wishes to the following 3 phones:
- Gnexus: would have to buy it used around the 300$ mark / will combine with a 2 years contract around 30$+
- Gnote: would buy it for 50$ on 2 years contract (30$)
- HTC One X: would get it for free on 2 years contract (30$)
What would you suggest me? i'm a Flash Addict fallen in love with paranoidandroid and JB and ATM my heart points toward the Gnote

HTC really wants a punch in his face. Why they keep doing Updates to already released phones?
the machine is magnificent. I would have bought without thinking!
if that phone will come out early we can port the jb rom from it to our one s.

Agree on the white.
But......after all the low storage etc threads, argued In by yours truly, that HTC should release 32 and 64 gb options......HTC listened
Thanks HTC, now just announce the JB update for the One V (my soon to be secondary phone!)and you will continue to keep me as a customer / fanboy for life!

Agreed.
HTC was smart by making the end caps tinted already. Bet those things get nasty after some use. I usually prefer white but I'm way more jealous of the storage space than the color in this case.
It's just not fair ;(

I think HTC's strategy will continue to fail them. It's essentially the same phone they released months ago just it has more storage. This is what the One S should've been when it came out, BUT it also should've had NFC to future proof the device.
Hopefully the memory IC is compatible with our phones so we can just resolder them

It's not surprising to see HTC made this move to release a variation of one s with different colour and more storage space. And I don't think it's unfair to the "old" one s owner either.
Just like Samsung released S3 alpha in Japan which has better specs than the international S3, companies will never make perfect phone, at least release a perfect one at one time.
The very next day after a device is made available to public, it's already become "yeaterday's" gadget apparently and literally. Moreover we all believed one s was a near perfect masterpiece when we bought it and did not bother too much about the 16gig storage, so why should we complain it now 6 months down the road. And we all know, in 3 years time, or less, one s may only be grandpa's play tool...
Regarding the release of one s se in other countries, I guess it will be available in the future if HTC still wants to keep the one s line. Since I know some big Telecom company like orange uk has marked one s EOL, end of line/life. Or HTC is preparing something big to come in Christmas time.
I do think it would have been nice to have at least 32gig option when one s was released, however that was not the case...

They could just design it with a microSD slot, it's that simple.
I knew that when I got the phone but didn't think it would bother me so much.
Roming it would be much easier... It's like they took the two bad things from the iPhone... Can't understand that.
Still I love the One S!

I disagree. Even after the One S came out, it's specs didn't become obsolete. The galaxy s3 was released shortly after and even that is on par with the one S based on benchmarks. And as the way things are, a lot of phones are being released with almost similar specs, with the exception of cpu speeds (architecture may be more optimized but say, exynos and snapdragon 4 are very much on par) and ram, phones aren't being differentiated. Not unless the new batch of architecture cpu are released and even then, manufacturer still have to create a phone around it. So while yes, this Taiwan version only phone has more memory, it doesn't mean any one s, one x, are going to be a grandpa toy only time soon. I can see the iPhone 5 being obsolete the moment it came out and being a grandparent toy only (Samsung commercial hit it dead on) but the one s will still be a contender. In fact, the only phones that become obsolete the day after released, are budget phones. Aka, one v and people still complain they aren't getting updates.

Hello,
We contacted HTC France which we confirm that this model was reserved for the Taiwan market.

Speaking of unique HOS devices, check out this one:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/htc-one-s/214004-my-one-s-dilemma.html
tmobile HTC One S.. and it definitely looks good.
good effort by htc but they really could save more complaints/headaches from current HOS owners by adding the following features:

if priced right i'd buy it and sell my current TMOUS HOS.
How much it cost?
Yes, it's really a nice device.
You can buy it from Taiwan shopping website.
global.pchome.com.tw/DGBM4Z-A69814978
The price is US$ 622.92
