Has anyone tried this device with the Desire?
They're only £50 at most places now. Thought it might be fun to play with, but there are some horrible reviews about it loosing connections and not re-establishing. Someone said that it has to sync with your handset just to display the correct time?
Wondering if anyone has any experiences to share?
Have seen a couple of reviews, none of the reviewers seemed very impressed. In one review (coolsmartphone.com I think), the unit kept randomly disconnecting from the desire used. Was interested myself until I saw how temperamental it was.

Electricpig seemed quite impressed too, but I dont think they tried it with a desire. I like the idea, but the battery life on the desire isn't great as it is, having bluetooth on all the time would kill it i think. And on the liveView I've read battery life is as short as 12 hours...
Think I might have to give it a miss too.
BIG problems..

I have one. Not good with Desire..
well, sometimes it works good, sometimes it doesnt ... the main problem is a connection problem. sometimes it tries to connect every time you press a button on the liveview.
sonyericsson is on its way to publish an update this month ... lets see if it helps
Update out now! Firmware and Market update!
How to update:
http://www.sonyericsson.com/liveviewupdate
More info:
http://blogs.sonyericsson.com/developerwor...-micro-display/
Don't forget to update the app in the phone using Market.
Stable for me.. just need to wait and see.
Got one on order, thought it was worth a punt, will report on the reliability of it once I receive it.

I got one a couple days ago. Its working great with the update. Only issue I've run into is I'm using cm7 and each time the display reconnects to my desire I have to approve the pairing on the phone. I wish there was a way to allow it to auto-pair when in range. Such a pain to have to acknowledge connection on the phone each time!! (just to be clear this happens when I get out of range from my phone, then walk back into range)
How are people finding the battery life?
The reconnect issue must be very annoying!
battery life is fairly decent. about 4+ hours. after the update from Sony and finally moving to CM7 build 13, it's been fantastic.
i only using the watch when driving around on the motorbike, for short periods of time. but, it's a world of difference from pre-update and pre-gingerbread.
remember, the LiveView is really just a fun little toy. don't rely on it for much more than that.
oh also, the plugins are working much more reliably than pre-update.
hello, I've got mine for couple of days. The LV shutdown after only three hours, it is for me not enough!

can you describe these 3 hours? what was your activity level and what apps are you running on the phone/watch?
in this 3 hours i only use the media player controler 45 min. and received one or two mail and sms.
I tried also to uninstall all the plugins,it only increase life time for 30 min.
Mine works fine since I read the threads on this forum regarding which processes to put in my ignore list. In fact, to test initially I disabled My Task Killer and it stayed connected for 2 days, I then ignored the correct processes, including goign into low security mode and ignoring everything to do with liveview. Since then it works great.
Mine lasts a couple of days with normal use. I use it as a remote for winamp at work for about an hour a day and read notifications every 30 mins or so.
An hour of charging every other day does it for me.
There is of course several things that I would like to see improved but it does what is advertised. The access to plugins I feel is way to cumbersome for one thing.
I had several problems with connections in the beginning, some even needed a unpair and the LiveView to be switched of for a day or so. The problem seemed to be that on connecting it tried to connect as my car stereo! After removing all other paired bluetooth devices the connection has been much more stable, though not perfect. The question is how it will behave if I start pairing these other devices again.
Now I loose the connection a couple of times each day but atleast reconnect is painless most of the times with just a few seconds wait.
Because of all the bad reviews and reports I bought mine used and cheap, so for the price I payed there is nothing to complain about.
Apart from being a nice gadget it really is a conversation piece, most people are very interested, and terms me gadget crazy =)
Planning on getting one as well, £42 on pixmania.
But was wondering are there any alternates to this for an android device. Or any other cool pocket devices that connect to the phone
There's a Sony watch that dies some similar things, but it us rather bulky and I am personally nit a fan of the aesthetics. I'd love to see this device get revisions to be thinner, more responsive, clearer and faster. I purchased mine in the hope that it would get these updates in the future. Have to support it now if I want it to be better later.

In your opinion do you think i should buy the Live view or wait a little longer and see if anyone's launching similar products.. (have not seen any news of any other manufacturer making one though )
I would wait..

i bought it yesterday and till now im very satisfied. i updated it yesterday and im running redux rom. it only disconnects when i run any plugin. then i have to turn it off and turn it on again :/ has anyone solved this repairing problem (that repairs automatically not manually)??
I've read post from people that seem to be very anal about there phones and nit pick at every little thing, I sold my thunderbolt and love this fine piece of technology despite some issues like light leakage. I personally still like the phonea lot. Its not to big and not to small, Nvidia hardware a company that is actually using the dualcore processors in its gaming applications through Tegra Zone. If the G2x is good enough for steve aka cyanogen its great for me. Not having to deal with Sense and HTC is even better, I don't even want to bother with Samsung phones and updates LOL.

The software was rushed out the door, but if you remove My Account and WiFi Calling it stabilizes pretty well. I like mine, my wife likes hers (and she's an iPhone fangirl)
Do agree it was rushed out the door but overall worth it . This is, my first non-htc android phone. Previous ones (g1, mytouch slide, g2(wifes)), all were rooted the first week I had em., well still have them to.

Hell yea, I love this phone... It is the most amazing phone I have ever used... And I have used plenty of android phones... I had HD2 (CM7 Nightly), Motorola Atrix, Samsung Galaxy S 4g, HTC shift and now G2X.... Somehow I never liked Atrix, and I do not know why. When I held that phone in my hand I did not feel like I am holding a cutting edge technology in my hand....
As for the G2X, best thing about this phone is, it comes with stock android(close enough)... You are free to do whatever you feel like doing with it. It is going to have amazing dev support, IMO it already has.
I do not have much LCD issues now with my phone luckily. (But that after replacing my phone.) I do not use WIFI at all, coz at my place tmob 4G is faster than my wifi.
I do not have random rebooting issue, one reason for that not happening may be that I let my device reboot after 2-3 days just to get my battery cycle. My GPS works fine. Bluetooth works fine though one time I had issue of my phone forgetting profile for my laptop.
I have laucher pro, go launcher ex, adw launcher installed. I have set them up differently according to the days and time... I keep changing them and still my phone never got hung, never rebooted itself, and never slowed down.... There is enough ram and storage for my use... I have almost 150 apps installed..
I have 8-10 hours of battery life after calibrating it with battery calibrator.. My usage is normal.. I keep background sync on for gmail, facebook, twitter, weather and pulse news. I watch 2-2.5 hours of podcast and youtube.. for 45mins - 1 hour I surf web, xda app and market...
In all I love this phone, it runs very very fast and smooth, and for the first time I am able to use all the apps to their full potential. Like in all the launchers, I can now set any animations I like without worrying about phone freezing or slowing down on me....
I love the phone when it is working right, but the battery use is horrendous. It is worse then my 2.5 year old G1 and it's battery was on it's last leg. I have done the factory reset and it seemed to work for a day and then slowly got worse again since last friday.
I'm using the phone about a 1/3rd of what I would with my g1 (out of fear of draining the battery) and the battery burns through quicker then the old phone. Yesterday I watched a 1 minute you tube video, sent 3 texts, opened a few emails, and played 3 turns on wordfued (total of about 1 minute, 1 move each on 3 games). The rest of the time all I got to do was use to monitor the battery, woo hoo, what fun.
I am also getting lots of reboots now (probably 20 total in a week and a half), and a few freezes. This morning the pinch zoom seems to be out of calibration too.
Tmobile is sending me a new phone and I hope it fixes it. My wife's seems to be working fine.
When it is working probably it is awesome, I'm fairly sure it can move around in google maps quicker than my computer!

every tmobile device that had android i had it. i also had the nexus s since release. i was ready to give up on this device but now since cm7 im liking it even more than i expected. stock isnt always so good....for the nexus it was but stock on the g2x had issues with battery life, signal, reboots etc. this is my 3rd device and i have very minimal bleeding and its great from what i use to have. im just looking forward to more roms preferrably one or two sense ones, and ill be a happy camper.
I am very happy with my G2x. There are some minor issues that I have experienced, but nothing that is going to make me want to get rid of the device. This is my 4th attempt at using an Android Phone. I had the T-Mobile MyTouch 4g when it was first released, but I was not a fan.
Then go forward to when the Samsung Galaxy S 4G was released, I got that phone. I returned it after 14 days, and then went and bought the Nexus S. I loved the Nexus S, but it was not the phone for me and I knew it. I had been waiting for the G2x, and since it was released right before my 30 day window was up, I exchanged my Nexus S for it.
I LOVE IT! It is one of the best phones I have ever used. It might not have the best battery life in the world, but I think that has a lot to do with the fact that the phone itself has a lot of features, and a dual-core processor. I think I will be buying a spare battery, which I do not mind doing as long as the phone works well.
Yes I am happy with this phone. All new phones have bugs. I remember my last phone the Samsung Epic having a cap on the data speed as well as other minor bugs. I have yet to experience a random reboot on this phone.
My phone is:
Rooted
Bloatware removed
ADW Settings used to customize my pages
Juice Defender on Extreme setting
Advance Task Killer used each time before turning off my screen
Switchpro used to put custom widgets on top of my home page.
Wintec 16gb MicroSD class 10
My battery drops 1% in 6 hours from the time I sleep and wake up.
My battery drops about 20-30% in 12 hours of light to moderate use during the day.
I got mine this past Sunday and I love it. No reboots, LCD not a problem. My main issue is that I get zero service (the x) inside my building at work. I would think I would at least get 1 bar since I'm in a "very good" 4G area. When I wake the phone, I have 2 bars, but it goes to zero in about 5 seconds. When I take about 10 steps out of my building, I get 4 bars. I can use wifi-calling while at work, but still haven't decided if I want to keep it. I'm thinking of dealing with it for a month and if necessary, swapping it for the Sensation. But if the reception was better, I would definitely keep it. I much prefer vanilla Android over HTC sense. My wife has no issues whatsoever with hers. Both of ours have a 4/05 date bought at Costco in Overland Park, KS.
I am glad you guys like it, as I am waiting for mine to arrive in these two days.
Maybe I'm just one of the lucky ones. I never had a reboot or problems with bleeding. Hardware wise it is perfect for me. Yes, sometimes I get annoyed when I rub my pinky against the usb port, but its all good. Coming from the vibrant I do miss certain features of touchwiz. Especially the smart dialer and contacts app. This stock froyo one is brutal. I feel like i'm ranting now. Well to sum it up, heres what I like and what I don't:
Pros:
1. Cyanogen Support (A nightly already?!)
2. It's only been out for 2 weeks, the xda community is booming
3. Sexy build quality
4. IPS screen...sometimes it feels like an iPhone...is it just me?
5. Speed
6. Vanilla!
7. FFC cough for the girlfriend cough
Cons
1. Screen Accuracy
2. Battery could have been bigger** (maybe a arc reactor would have been nice)
Thats it :O
**Thats what she said.
I loved my phone at first until other issues started to arise... I got it the day before it hit stores... now when unlocking my phone it pauses on a black screen shows me my screen then brings me to the unlock screen... A PAIN and time consuming! My battery is flakey sometimes REALLY good and sometimes sooooooo awful its unthinkable! Today, I called to finally get a replacement... time to unroot and return!
***lmao at that's what she said!***

I really like the device a great deal. However, I am on my third. Calling issues have plagued my previous two. I think it MAY have been an application, or some incompatibility between something(s) I installed. However, this latest one, with most of the same applications does not exhibit the issue.
It is fast, stable, has stock Android, and none of HTC Sense in the way...however, none of Sense's benefits either.
OK folks,
I have been a member follower of these groups for a longtime now. I love the android environment. I bought a charge yesterday that is giving me problems. I have not even begun to hack and am having lockups, robot voice, slow response, etc.
I have just factory reset before I take it back but wanted to know what the groups feel about the 2. I will be submitting this same question in the thunderbolt forum as well. Looking for opinions with a reason, please no flaming either device or me. I have read nearly every post under the charge group of forums.

What were the issues you had with the Charge? Maybe others had the same problem and know of a way to fix things, or a work around?
Overall, I've heard of issues with both devices, but I have heard of more serious problems with the Thunderbolt compared to the Charge. The Thunderbolt is having reboot issues with the latest OTA update, and before that, had significant battery drain problems, with a full charge lasting just a few hours, regardless of use. The other problem, which is semi-manageable is the screen and its washed out look, and I've also heard of light bleed around the edge. The other issue, which I haven't heard as much about recently where times when the Thunderbolt would get stuck in 1X or 3G when in a 4G area.
With the Charge, some users seem to have random battery drain problems. Myself, I haven't noticed it being to bad, but I only just got my phone. Signal bouncing around has been reported to, but so far, when I'm in a 4G area, it stays in 4G unless I send a text or get a call (haven't tried voice/data simultaneously yet), and if I'm in a fringe 4G area, it seems to only pick it up if it is a better signal than 3G. Software may be a downside here to, depending on how you look at it, but so far, this is the best Samsung phone I have used, and best phone overall, despite the current lack of mods (which will be fixed in the coming days/weeks now)
I just picked up a Charge about a week ago after returning the Thunderbolt. I can honestly say if you want a 4G device, the Charge is the better option. I used the Thunderbolt for about six weeks and had way too many issues with it. I won't say that the Charge is problem free, but its minimal in comparison and managable. With the Thunderbolt I had worse battery issues, syncing that wouldn't shut off, terrible signal that would go from 3G to 1X to no service, and reboots multiple times a day. The only problems I've had with the Charge has been Touchwiz and the battery. Touchwiz is an awful launcher but that's what ADW or Launcherpro is for. And the battery life for the Charge is rough, but probably double than what I was getting out of the Thunderbolt. Before these phones came out, I had no faith in either manufacturer when it came to android. Now, some has developed for one. Hope this helps.

I have a thunderbolt too and have and still do have random reboots and battery drain. I also get 1X lock in 3G areas too.
My wife owns the Charge and so far it's nice. I haven't really had it long enough to really compare the two.
How did you return your Thunderbolt after 6 weeks? Or did you just pay full retail for the Charge and ebay the thunderbolt?

The ONLY thing i preferred on the TB over my Charge was the 256mb of extra memory really does make a difference, everything is that bit snappier on the TB, but the crap battery, poor visible screen when outside, the piss poor signal, the fact it looked just like my mates htc surround windows 7 phone just bigger and finally some of the software is garbage like when it saves drafts and you dont want it to of your half written text, and the fact the browser instead of being able to type and google search appears, you have to delete the http:// that appears everytime, make the charge stand head and shoulders above the HTC, will be interesting to see what this new LG Revolution is like as that seems identical to the charge
Quick edit: But i have to add that when changing over from rfs with the voodoo lag fix could make things even out in speed, im yet to root so i cant answer

I had to take back my first Charge as the vibrate motor was dead The new one though seems to be fine thus far though.
I had the Thunderbolt the first day it came out and returned it on the 14th. I really like the Charge, compared to HTC and Motorola, I think Samsung offers a good blend of things. The media player on this phone f-in ROCKS! The camera is good, much better low light performance than Motorola and offers great controls, and the screen is beautiful. The only thing I absolutely HATE is the **** brown color scheme. I hope that this can be resolved soon and I hope that developers will jump on board and give us a great community of ROM's and support because I think this phone has great potential
I *think* the Charge has dedicated video memory, where the TB doesn't.
So the Charge may only have 512M RAM, but I *think* it has 128M of video memory, where the TB has 768 of shared memory.
Someone chime in and correct me if I am wrong.
I do have both a Charge (wife) and a TB. I think the Charge, even with the Voodoo lag fix, is not as snappy as the TB. Not because of the memory, but because the TB has a bumped processor over the older hummingbird.

Its pretty awesome I think. Battery life is decent, the screen is amazing, 4G is super fast, touchwiz is easily covered and/or removed (with some awesome roms) the front camera (as well as back) is nice, and speaker quality is loud but top notch... however it has the same internal memory and RAM as the Fassy plus hard buttons on the bottom, also some report problems with output through mini HDMI but this could be due to cables or errors with apps/tv's. All in all a solid upgrade, a notification LED and a little better internal hardware (RAM and memory) and this would be a near perfect phone
blazing through on my VZ Droid Charge 4G
I love everything about this phone, even the little quirks you'll discover...except for the battery life. But there are tons of threads here telling about how to remedy this.

I have small hands, so to me the phone feels just a tad big, but the awesome screen, huge keyboard, and easy to read texts and web pages more than make up for it. Reception is outstanding, too! It's a noticeable improvement over my old fascinate.
thankyou for the replies! so im getting pretty much all positive? great step up from the fassy? i thought there WAS an LED notification? wah. not that it would be a deal breaker.. ive been dealing with no LED since i got this phone in feb. but i had a D1 and loved the LED. either way. i like the front facing camera.. and if its a replacement and its that much of an upgrade than why not do it if i can? plus my phone does have terrible service. always missing calls and texts.. i thought it was just my phone. didnt realize till this deal took place that it was that widespread. size factor.. is it THAT much bigger than the fassy?
Samsung doesn't put notification LEDs on their new phones. Not on the Charge, not on the Nexus S, and not on the Galaxy S II. Unfortunately we don't even have BLN for the Charge because the code is currently incompatible.
As for size, yes, it's significantly larger than the Fascinate, no matter what anybody tells you. But the size doesn't bother me nearly as much as I thought it would.

I think he means that the tech bulletin no longer allows for a change to a Charge. A buddy of mine who got approved to have his Fascinates changed a few days ago got denied today because they are releasing the OTA that fixes the problem.

ah really??? that sucks so should i even bother trying lol i dont want to put my phone back to stock just to get denied. although i do have other issues that im sure werent "fixed" with the update.. ie: unresponsive screen frequently and plenty of freezes/reboots.
I found it ironic that the day receive my Charges, they release the OTA. I was defaulting my Fascinates before sending them back, and *POOF*, ED05 Corporate. So far, I haven't had it running long enough to make an opinion on the Charge, but you can't argue with that speed. I noticed that my screen flickers when it turns on. Anybody else seeing this?
Charge kills the Fascinate...you won't look back trust me. I was expecting worse battery life and have experienced the exact opposite which is a plus. I don't think there's even a comparison when you factor in 4g, build quality, super amoled +. I'm personally loving my Charge right now.

That's for a very good reason. Think about it: if the physical bottom buttons woke up your phone, it would wake up like crazy while in pockets or purses. Those get pressed all the time on my phone just by walking around.

I called on sunday and they sent out a dinc2. I ended up going to the store today and got it ordered and they did mention an ota was bein sent out. Just wish I could've got my charge today but I left town today and I'll get it when I get back home next weekend.

hmm.. well maybe ill still attempt it if you went in and got it ordered today..you got the charge as a REPLACEMENT or bought it out?
Very much enjoyed the transition. Missing CM7 and fully customized GB kernels, but they will come in time.
Screen is significantly larger. Phone is noticeably thicker, but nowhere near the brick that the Thunderbolt is. 4G is amazing - and maybe I just got super lucky, but after flashing GC GBE's latest via ODIN right upon getting the phone, I have the most amazing battery life I have ever experience in a smartphone. On a grade of Blackberry (-2921912912) to iPhone (+8239238932) - the Charge has (thus far) been even better than the iPhone on battery. At first I thought it was because I'm on WiFi all the time (now that WiFi actually works, unlike with the Fascinate) - so with the data radios disabled, it was sipping juice... however, out and about and even on 4G/3G border, I still get ridiculous battery life.
I still can't believe I managed to make a 15 minute drive, hang out in a store for 15 minutes (using 4G to product compare the whole time), make a 15 minute drive home.. at it was still at 100%.
My fascinate would've been in the 80s by then.. if not worse.
tl;dr: amazing battery, better radios in ALL aspects compared to fascinate, bigger screen, only missing CM7 and custom GB kernels.. and it's a bit thicker.
The charge and the thunderbolt. Yet I'm trying to figure out which one is the best one. The charge has that super amoled plus screen, and the thunderbolt has the amazing body. What are your guys decision thanks.

Btw I'd go with the Droid charge

Droid charge just for the battery life. Both have their pros and cons, but poor battery life significantly cripples the Thunderbolt.
Think about what part of the phone you look at all the time and then get the Charge.

droid charge hands down

It took me about 2 seconds in a side by side comparison in the Verizon store to decide on the Charge and I haven't regretted it for a second.

LOL, I made the same comparison....
One of my co-workers has a t-bolt & he would swap it for a Charge in a heartbeat if he could.

I've used both, I'm going for the Charge. You asked why?
1) Super AMOLED Plus
2) Lighter
3) Better battery life
Why not?
1) HTC Sense, I like this more than TouchWiz 3.0, but after seeing TouchWiz 4.0, I may change my mind.
The rest is up to you to decide for yourself

Personally, I think they both suck but I use LauncherPro Plus and custom icons etc so it doesn't really matter to me which which one the phone or ROM come with.

I've noticed that phones with Qualcomm SoCs have significantly fewer reception issues than phones with other radio chipsets. Makes sense since Qualcomm basically owns the CDMA standard. Also, while the CPU is roughly equivalent, the Tbolt has an extra 256MB of RAM which- given all the home screen redraw issues I've had on my Charge- is enough to make a difference.
Before someone brings it up, it's my understanding that the "Wireless by Qualcomm" sticker on top of the Charge means that Samsung paid their licensing fees to Qualcomm for use of the CDMA technology, not that Qualcomm had anything to do with making the modem. If that's incorrect, feel free to set me straight.
The Charge, however, has that Wolfson DAC and the Super AMOLED+, as well as HDMI out, making it a clearly superior device for entertainment purposes. So really it comes down to... do you want the better phone (battery issues aside), or a truly amazing PMP that happens to be a decent Verizon handset as well?
The charge and thunderbolt both have their ups and downs, but the main reason you should get the charge is you can most likely sell it for more. Get the charge, sell it, put a little cash on it and get the vigor/nexus prime.
Thunderbolt but I sold it they are both no good go to att get galaxy s 2 its the ****in bomb

LOL, you got to be kidding me.
I'm sure the phone is nice, but who the heck is going to swap from VZ service to ATT just to get a different phone??

Before I got my charge 2 weeks ago, I was looking at the Thunderbolt, Incredible, or this. I did some looking online at reviews and went into the store to get a feel for them. While they are all good, the Charge was my choice and I haven't regretted it yet. Oh and p.s. the phone I had before was an LG Ally lol so using this phone is like going from a Leapster to an Alienware

I'm in same situation and have decided on the Charge. For a lot of the above reasons and mainly for the Display and the battery.
A co-worker decided on the TB because she likes HTC and she's used to always putting her ATT HTC Inpire on the Charger all the time at work and figures thats how she'll be using the ThunderBolt.
Go figure???? Oh well that's why there's more than one model of phone out there. And everyone likes to make a different decision even if it's wrong sometimes.
But I've made my decision also, and it looks good, especially the display.
Wait for the Nexus.

Sometimes other things aren't an option
As in my case, My Company also gave me a Choice of Thunderbolt, Droid Charge or Droid X2.
Not of the Nexus or Droid Bionic and them So it doesn't do me any good either to wonder about better phones on the horizon. I have to deal with what choice to make of the phones I'm offered now.
I'll promise you this though, that there most assuridly will be a better phone than the Charge coming out in the future. Even better than the NEXUS Thats technology always advancing
But I think of the 3 choices I mentioned the Charge offers me the best features, options and mods for now. IMHO
I turned in my TB to VZW in exchange for he Charge. I had the TB since day two that it was out. Just too many issues on it for me. I had it rooted but returned to stock before sending it back.
What I've found with the Charge is that I traded in a phone with issues for a different phone but with as many issues, just different issues than the TB.
I'm eyeing either the Nexus or the Vigor right now. If the Nexus only has 16 or even 32 gb of memory and no external sd then I will go with the Vigor. I won't get either one on day or or day two. I'll probaby wait for a week and then watch the forums to see what issues are coming up on them.
I think the biggest problem for me with the Charge is the unbelievably bad wifi radio. Right now we are remodeling our bedroom in our house and so we head out to our RV sitting in our driveway to sleep at night. I have an Asus Transformer in there and it gets a signal from the wifi in the house with no problem. My old TB got the wifi signal with no problem. My wife's dinc get wifi with no problem, but this Charge barely gets a signal when it gets one and the signal fades in and out constantly.

yes finally someone brought up an issue I've had since day 1!!! I thought I was the only one who had horrendous wifi range on my Charge... the router in my place is maybe 30+ feet away in the back, my room's in the front where my laptop (and gf's Dinc) picks up the signal just fine and my Charge gets 0-1 bar... and I got a Cisco N+ router just for that reason, the range and speed
