Lollipop update available for single sim devices (from Belgium)!! - Desire 820 Android Development

Great news for us today. My single sim HTC Desire 820 is actually downloading the official Lollipop update. I'm located in Belgium and it wasn't available yet this morning so they just began to roll out in Europe as I also read it was arriving in Germany this last night.
Check your phones, download and enjoy!

In Poland too

Lollipop 5.0.2 now installed with Sense 6. It really makes it more responsive an give a smoother experience from my part. I'm really disapointed that it came so late but as usual, it offers a real "HTC Sense sensation". I hope we'll get later a better "update experience" as HTC officially included this device into its Android 6 update roadmap. Let's hope it won't take a year long to receive it...

Sony Android 4.0 Update Delayed If You Own a Sony llike me, Read This

he Sony Android 4.0 update has been hotly anticipated, but sadly plagued by delays and weird corporate choices. If you own a Sony phone and you're still waiting for an update, you'll want to read on – we have important information for you. According to an official corporate blog post, the update is being delayed a few months for the company to work out the kinks. Sony has confirmed that Ice Cream Sandwich will be making it to their Xperia line of phones in mid-to-late April – at the earliest.
Unfortunately, the first phones to receive the update aren't ones that a whole heck-of-a-lot of people use. The Xperia Arc S, Xperia Neo V and Xperia Ray will be fed delicious Ice Cream Sandwich first . These models should receive the update in mid-April, although the rollout will continue over 4-6 weeks, meaning it's possible – depending on which carrier you use – that you could be stuck at the tail end of that update rollout and not receive ICS until mid-May or a bit later. As you know, carriers are notorious for delaying updates so they can work out the "kinks." The second round of updates will include the Xperia Arc, Xperia Play, Xperia Neo, Xperia Mini, Xperia Mini Pro, Xperia Pro and Xperia Active starting at the end of May / beginning of June and continuing through July and August.
Sony's updates are also a bit more complicated to install. Since the company doesn't provide over-the-air update, you'll have to hook up your phone to your computer and download the update via PC Companion or Bridge for Mac. I'm not sure what Linux owners are supposed to use.
Oh and if you're interested in buying the Sony Xperia S – Xperia's newest model – that phone will be receiving ICS in "the later part of the second quarter."
Are you disappointed by this news? Or unsurprised? Certainly Sony is not known for coordinating their updates very effectively. Then again, no manufacturer really is, especially when the carriers get involved. Ugh.
adssio seem
I'm not very surprised my this.
My first android was a Milestone, and it was stuck on 2.1 because Motorola couldn't be bothered releasing an update for it.
What's worse was that I couldn't even update it with a custom rom because it was locked down much tighter than the American Droid version.
Ever since then I've had very low expectations about manufacturers providing updates. I look to custom roms for my update needs these days.
My HTC Desire Z got 2.3 thanks to Cyanogenmod, and my new Xperia Pro now has 4.0.4 due to the good work done by team FreeXperia.
Almost everyone is delaying updates

Android 4.4 for One S ????

Hi guys,
Since we saw Android 4.4 launch today we heard Sundar Pichai Saying "It will support devices with minimum of 512MB RAM" I think we can hope our HTC One S will be directly updated to Android 4.4. Since this "Once Flagship" device meets every requirement for Getting Kitkat treatment can anyone tell me whether our One S will be updated to Android 4.4???

No. It has been discontinued, get over it. Also One S wasn't even a flagship.
4.4 wasn't made to support older devices, it's so the low-end devices won't lag so much.

Yeah. I don't think there's any phone that will get updated with the lower requirements of KitKat.

These new "lower requirements" will pretty much just be for all phones moving forward, large and small. From this point on, all phones of any speed and power will be able to be released with the same software. But I don't see any of the major players suddenly deciding that now is a good time to dust off their old models and suddenly provide an update for it.
we WILL get kitkat, one way or another
It probably HAS a good chance since HTC announced the day after release it will roll out 4.4 kitkat over the next 90 days. It will be ported to a new rom i'm sure.

But there has been no confirmation from HTC that it wont serve us KITKAT right? And they ve even discontinued Sense5 update so being a new and affordable update i think it will make them rethink their decisions

They never gave support on 4.2+ to the One S, and never will. If you manage to convince them let me know.
I'm not trying to sound harsh but no one should get their hopes up so high and then be disappointed when there's no update.
If HTC will update the One XL to 4.4 we'll probably get a working porting of the Sense 5.5.
But we'll also get some 4.4 AOSP ROMs...thats sure...

So XL is not getting 4.3...what a surprise. At least now I know that Sony support on mid-range and low-end devices is crap....the only big thing they did for us was to update to 4.2.2,however this update also have bugs so I don't see any difference between sony official support and custom rom.If someone doesn't start to work on a CM soon we'll be stuck with this 4.2.2 until we can manage to get a new phone....sony mid range phone?never again
Well, wrath of users was expected and even I wanted Sony to give 4.3 or 4.4 update.
But seriously have you even seen a mid-range phone getting more than one android version update? I think the answer is NO.
Sony has still handled Xperia L quite well and we should patiently wait for bug fix update of our latest 4.2.2 build.
And don't lose hope on CM ever, its just a matter of time. Even development of my other awesome phone(HTC Explorer) started after a lot of time and now it has fully working CM10.2. See, the phone was launched with 2.3 and was completely abandoned by HTC but it has one of the best developments for legacy devices. So, don't lose hope and keep calm.
Lol... I'm switching to Google nexus.. Sony can go **** themselves. It's stupid that they're not bothered to release atleast 4.3 when our phone was released just about 6 months ago, just wow.

Well, Nexus does give you freedom and choices of lots of custom roms. It's price is great and it's very good phone. I have Nexus 4 and I do like it. I will certainly recommend it. The only thing you need to think is how long you intend to use it. Buying the every latest devices is not very wise as you spend alot of your money for just one or two extra features.
I think to update my Nexus 7 2013 in 2015 and my Nexus 4 Next year (October 2014) while Xperia L around when it is required. I would be using it for a couple of years too I believe. Following this scheme I always have the latest device with me and I also do not spend a lot of money. (700-800 British Pounds every three year, considering that I am a Medicine Student and under a lot of loan already). Also what is more to look is that my old devices are still doing a great job. I recently installed CM 10.2(JB 4.3) in HTC Sensation and it runs just as smooth as Nexus 4/Xperia L for the matter. The software is stable and I can play HD games on 786MB RAM only.
Another point to note is that KitKat 4.4 has only been released for about a week now and I am using 4.3 on my two year old HTC sensation using Custom ROM.
Now most of manufacturers are working hard on ONLY hardware. Even phones released two years ago are doing very well till date. However, if you look into software department and games, you can still play all of latest games on these devices very smoothly. I will give you examples of HTC sensation/Incredible S, Samsung Nexus, SII or any other phone of that time with almost similar hardware. I have checked MC4/Fifa 14/Asphlat 8 personally on all of these devices. Also with KITKAT 4.4, Android has gone into a surge to speed up system by 50% and that's just beginning.
You might be wondering, the new ROMS are not available. Well actually they are but custom made. If you check out Android development of these phones, you will be surprised that many developers are giving their best to just work hard on new ROMS and they are all great.
The only drawback that I see is of Nexus devices is that it doesnot have a removable battery. This is just a big draw back for me as I keep three devices and I update each one annually so this means that I need to change my nexus after using it for around 2 years to 3 years. In this time, I need to change my battery as battery does get worn out and damaged. But I just can not easily do that although it can be done but usually nexus batteries are hard to find comparatively.
Remember to always BUY A DEVICE WHICH IS DEVELOPERS FRIENDLY. You won't find much ROMS for HTC Amaze although it has almost the same specification as HTC sensation.
About Xperia L, usually a manufacturer updates it devices for around 18 months in high end devices and around the same time for middle ranged devices or maybe 12 months. When will Kitkat be available for Xperia L? It might take a long time (first all new high end devices Z1 and Z ultra, then recent high end devices and then the lower and middle end devices)
I clearly see why there isnot a chance for Xperia L to directly jump to 4.4 or maybe this is what I am hoping to use Xperia L in the long run.

You are right, but XL is 6-7 months old,and if mid-range device get 12 month support this makes 5-6 months support more.I think that is enough time to make 4.3(why not 4.4...) update where all the bugs that are present in 4.2.2 are fixed.
Who knows, maybe we will see bugfree update some day
How my im so suprised ! About that ,..

I will never buy sony phones if they won't update xperia L to 4.4 kitkat
Bye Sony!
I've got myself an Xp-L and if Sony abandons it in 4.2.2 (which very likely is), I will never buy any Sony phone, ever.
come on people. this is the 'first draft', simply meaning that these will be the first phones which will get the update. i.e sony has prioritized them. they will be working the update for these devices and then come to other phones. and if you are saying like ' i wont buy sony phone ever again' then good luck with other manufacturers mid-range devices.
I said that I won't buy Sony too...but if I think about it...Samsung makes expensive devices, LG is no better than Sony in terms of updates and hardware...and others aren't so trustworthy... So I guess I'll be sticking with Sony until I'll afford a high end device. Then I'll really have a choice.

What do you need from 4.3 or 4.4 ?
I have seen a lot of complaints here "when we will get 4.3 or 4.4) and so on and so on. My question to all of you whiners out there is as following, what do you need 4.4 or 4.3 for ? Is there something in this version that you ppl need or is it just need to have latest version of OS so that you can brag about or what ?
I uppgrade ONLY when there is a bugfix or something that I actually NEED. If it says 4.1 or 15.2 on my android has no point whatsoever in my world. What is imprtant that my does what is designed to do and Xperia XL even with 4.1 is just fine. Stop whining and actually use that phone for waht is intended for.

When will we get Nougat on our xperia XA???,

Hey everyone! According to the the Sony update roadmap Sony Xperia XA was supposed to be updated sometime in early 2017 (Jan-March) but it's May now.. I want the update asap Does anyone knows when will we get update????? thank you!
Samsung has already rolled out the Nougat update for Galaxy A5 (2016) users in Russia, it is also important to note that Sammy's version of Android is more customized than Sony's.
So this is how Sony treats consumers who bought their mid-range phones, my next Android phone is going to be either a Pixel or a Samsung one.
Sony is awful with support for mid range phones.Check at this we really are the last ones to get it!

I agree with you. My previous experience with Sony is good actually. I had a Flagship though.. (Xperia Z3). Pixel isn't officially available here in UAE. They are available here unofficially but they would cost me around whopping 800-900$! I won't switch to Samsung because I prefer Stock UI and Sony's UI. I thought of switching to Huawei but they aren't good with the Software updates either. (Security patches..). I would switch to Nokia 6 or 5 whenever its available at my place.

Agree with you. This is a big disappointment from Sony. I had a Xperia M2 Aqua and the Lollipop update didn't take so long (like 2 months). Also this phone has a lot of bugs (the battery drain, some xposed modules make crash the phone, apps like YouTube sometimes stop working). My next phone will be a Galaxy, Sony's phone quality decreased the last years.

Think you'll find the lollipop update for the m2 took almost 6mths to arrive from it being announced(may) to it actually arriving (beginning of October). The Nougat update for the xa is its final update so don't expect it before the device is at least a year on the market it'll probably arrive in the autumn some time
Sent from my Xperia XA using XDA Labs
Annoyingly they'll probably give us 7.0 and not 7.1, all this delay and still not the very latest version. Though only time will tell-my XA is running flawlessly on MM.
Lesson Learned!
Last Sony device I purchase! Never seen such terrible support and developers. If I had missed deadlines by several months, I would no longer be working where I currently work. Unacceptable!

HTC U11 updates

Before anybody tells me this is the wrong place to post, I just want to ask a couple of questions.
https://www.eglobalcentral.eu/htc-u...m-free-unlocked-4g-red-hs-code-8471-3010.html
The link above is the 128gb/6gb model of the HTC u11. Ive a funny feeling it is from the Asian market. I just want to know if HTC updates this phone just like the European market. I have a LG G4 and I hate it because LG skips many updates that are pushed to the Eu model and just bundles them into one update to cover another half year of no updates. Also does HTC deliver when it comes to monthly security patches and general updates. I hope they dont skip android versions x.1.1 like LG does. Thank you for listening to my rant.
Same situations here. I have an LG G4, and I want to switch to the HTC U11. I am interested to the 6/128 GB edition from the same site (the price also is very good). I've sent an email yesterday to eglobalcentral and the saw me that the smatphone is for the ASIA market...but the specs are the same of the EU market units (checked from HTC official website). I don't know about firmware updates for the India market..
