Since I am in China, a non-Google country, the activation is impossible. It requires Wi-Fi, which obviously I have, but all devices must connect with Google, which is impossible without the VPN. Secondly, there is no VPN option on start-up screen. So, it is in the Checking connection "up to 2 minutes" screen indefinitely. I would say this is a major BUG.
My solution will be to downgrade to 5, which I recall could go into the android without Wi-Fi first connecting with Google. Whereby, I can setup a VPN using full android OS access.
Any other solutions here to get into Android 6?
This didn't work for me, but it might be my VPN provider: If you have a laptop, connect it to the internet with an ethernet cable, turn on your VPN, and then share your connection through wifi.
In theory, this should work, but it didn't for me. And I found your thread because I was either looking for a solution, or at least a place to vent. I read somewhere on a Google forum that Google doesn't have an answer for this. We're SOL.

Dear all, I got my new Nexus One, rooted, with recovery ROM and with Modaco Custom ROM installed (without Add-On installed).
I installed also the VPN Connection but I cannot get it to work!
Anyone was succesfully get it to work on N1?
Or any other idea to get a VPN connection with a Cisco concentrator?
thank you
I would like that one as well!
I've installed the VPN connection from the market on top of Cyanogen's Baconmod and it worked the first time. I'm going back to my companies Cisco concentrator also.
I'm using a group password - make sure you set that up correctly... Connects over WiFi or 3G with no issues. I'm not certain if it works well with certificates.
I am unlocked, rooted, RA Recover, and N1 Addon. Once you get all of that setup then go to the market and download "VPN Connections - root".
It should work barring any unforeseen configuration on your work side like TCP vs UDP, connections port changes, or anything else that would be propagated by a configuration file.
But if you unlock, root, and have Cyanogen's N1 Addon you should be fine unless you have a config challenge.

Cisco VPN works but has issues
Nexus is my first Android phone and I just rooted and baconized. I was so conflicted, but I told myself it was inevitable. The phone has been solid for a week and I knew that when the first ROM dropped with multi-touch, I wouldn't be able to resist. Might as well get a head start, right?
First thing I did was install VPN Connections from the Market and setup a connection to my company Cisco ASA. I was totally stoked when I was able to connect and VNC into my office PC. After I was done. I went back into VPN Connections and disconnected from the VPN. My Internet (WIFI) access did not come back. Next I tried disabling the VPN from within the app. No dice. I then forced VPN Connections closed and still no good. I ended up disabling and re-enabling WIFI to get it my net connection back. Is this normal?
networking hosed after disconnecting VPN...
Posted this over in the apps section, before I saw this thread:

Does this program place a .pcf file anywhere on the phone? I have a pcf file from my work VPN, and the options that are in the UI are not quite enough to cover what all I need to enter. I looked all over the place for a pcf file, but couldn't find one. I know that the get-a-robot initial version of this program had one, but I don't know where this new version keeps it (if it does at all).

Cisco VPN
I have a question about Cisco VPN. i've not tried using it on an android phone, because I wasn't sure if the way my company's VPN works is supported. My company uses a token file that needs to be "installed" on the computer for the Cisco VPN. So the question is, would the Cisco VPN solution for Android support this?
Thank you
Using CM beta 4 rom with update from Google and this program FCs when trying to connect to vpn.
Any helpful hints would be great.
not sure on the fc, maybe try another rom/kernel.
i wasn't able to get this to work using any of the cyan roms so i must be doing something wrong.
my vpn works fine with the settings i've used for both vpn client (windows cisco client) and vpnc (fedora linux client) but when i press connect on android it will instantly say failed, is there a log available for this application?
Hi All,
At this point, I'm just brainstorming, and would like some input. (I hope this thread is in the right place)
I'm trying to find a setup to connect to free wifi hotspots that are far away, and share that connection to a group of devices locally. For example, this solution may be useful in a boat or an RV, when you're not particularly close to a free access point.
There are commercial solutions like the Rogue Wave however, this doesn't do anything to authenticate through the Terms of Service (TOS) pages that are frequently used at free access points.
This is what brings me to using Android. There are Android apps which automate the process of accepting the terms of service. My favorite right now is WebWifiLogin (I'm familiar with the security risks involved in using public wifi; and may also have the Android device to also establish a VPN connection when doing this.) (I can't find an equivalent macro-authentication solution that will run on a PC, which would make this much easier.)
So here's my proposed solution:
1. Start with a powerful omnidirectional wifi antenna (Possibly add an in-line amp if needed. Also perhaps a directional antenna may be better for non-mobile use.)
2. Connect the antenna to any Android device that supports an external Wifi antenna. I found several Android TV devices which should work. Like This, or possibly this.
3. Set up some kind of local access point/bridge. One option may be to use fqrouter2 which supposedly uses the same Wifi radio for the local WLAN, while it also connects to the remote one. Another option may be to USB or Ethernet tether to a DD-WRT Router.
Result:
The Android device has a range to connect to a free hotspot up to a mile or two away, then automatically accepts the TOS using the WebWifiLogin app, and shares that connection locally to a handful of devices.
So am I crazy? Is this too complex to work correctly? Is there a simpler solution that I'm missing?
Can anyone confirm whether I've posted this in the correct sub-forum?
Thanks.
I use a slightly different method which yields the same results.
I have a Linksys WRT54GL router (with high gain antennas) which runs DD-WRT and a script called AutoAP. The script scans for unencrypted WIFI access points, makes sure they're live, and automatically connects to the strongest one in range.
I set up a second WPA2 encrypted WIFI SSID in the router which I connect to with my Android tablet. Once WebWifiLogin on the tablet handles the TOS login, the remote access point allows web access for any device that connects to the WRT54GL router (either by WIFI to the secondary SSID or through one of the ports)! This happens because the remote access point usually checks/remembers TOS acceptance by the MAC address of the connected device. Since it only sees the MAC address of my router, anything behind the router now gets access.

This is great information; thanks!
I would not have thought WebWifiLogin would work when connecting through another router. When WebWifiLogin is running, its status says "Listening for WiFi events" (Or something similar) so I was under the impression that WebWifiLogin would only work if the connection to the AP is made directly by the Android WiFi interface, and not through a intermediary router.
This makes things much easier.
At work we installed a new WiFi router a few months back. The connection is open and no one needs a password to connect to it. But many who bought android phones recently arent able to connect to it. I have a OnePlus One with android 4.4.4 which doesnt connect to the WiFi. My colleagues own Xiaomi, Motorola phones which they bought recently, which also doesnt connect to the internet.
The phones detect the WiFi signal, says the network is saved but fails to connect to it no matter what. The temporary solution is to make our laptop into a WiFi router and use it but this is seriously annoying. The router is from HP and I dont know the exam model number for it at the moment
I will be grateful if someone can find any solution for this problem. Also, I am a novice when it comes to gadgets so, if your suggestion is to manually set up my WiFi settings please do so with clear instructions or a video of some sort. However I will be happy if this problem gets solved in a straightforward manner.
Please help!

No need to configure wifi on your device IMO.
Sounds like an issue with the wifi router.
To check an fix the internet settings of the wifi router, you will need the adminstrative access/console/password for the router.
Then you can check that all new devices afre allowed to connect. On some routers you can restrict the access to a list of known devices or by enabling a MAC address filtering.
If you find such options on the HP wifi router, disable it and restart the wifi.
And make sure that the SSID of the wifi network is visible (= not hidden). Some Android devices have issue connecting to hidden networks.
Thread closed. Thank you.
Hello, before you hate me, my question relates with programming and I do not find anythink similar here.
So I'm develeping android. It has to send data from phone to PC via network (Wifi LAN connection, IPv4, DHCP working). There is NO internet access and never will be!!! On phones like Xiaomi Samsung Huawei and Lenovo it works like charm, but on some phones (Sony, Prestigio)(different android version on that phones, on sony probably 4.0 or 4.4 and 6.0 on prestigio) it is not working, these phones detect wifi connection differently, they connect normally but then they said there is no internet connection and show small exclamation mark next to wifi symbol although they stay connected to wifi and ping agains them works normally, but android api network operation not works anymore, only when I connect that wifi LAN network to internet, android network api started to work normally. So faced someone to similar problem? Is the a solution to make it work on network without internet access? I do not have access to problem phones so I do not can run debugger on them. I will be glad for any advice or usefull link. Sorry for bad english but it is not my native language.
PS: Please it's not problem with wifi access point or network configuration on router or phones, I am sure. Phones from xiaomi, huawei... work normally, same code, same configuration, same network without internet access.

I don't know how you expect anyone to help solve this issue or troubleshoot what is going on if you do not have access to the devices that have the problem. If you do not have the phones in your possession to test them, we can't help you.

Hi all, just received my 8T on Friday. I migrated from a Pixel 4XL which was having microphone issues I think. After migration, tried to set up the phone, and I could not get the 8T to connect to my home's WPA2-PSK wifi network to log back into my google account, get OS and app updates, add email accounts, etc. Had to do all that over 4G. Finally discovered by accident that the phone will connect to unencrypted networks like hotspots. Eventually, I run a debug trace on my home wifi infrastructure (Cisco 9130 with embedded wireless controller & other Cisco 3800's) and I can see that the phone connects just fine to "open" network that I created to test with, but as soon as I try to connect to the WPA2 network everything in the house runs on, the entries in the trace stop... meaning the phone isn't even trying to connect to the access point. On the phone, when you click to connect to the secured wifi, you can see the status go from "saved" to "connecting" back to "saved", while the access point sees no connection attempt whatsoever. So it's either software or hardware problem with the phone. Seeing as I've been on at least two different versions of the OS, I suspect hardware.
So my question is this: is anyone else able to connect an 8T to a wifi network that's secured with WPA2 preshared key? Is it just me having trouble? I've been on chat with OnePlus support two different times, now I'm waiting since Sunday for a shipping label for RMA to OnePlus.
Any help greatly appreciated!
