Dear all, I got my new Nexus One, rooted, with recovery ROM and with Modaco Custom ROM installed (without Add-On installed).
I installed also the VPN Connection but I cannot get it to work!
Anyone was succesfully get it to work on N1?
Or any other idea to get a VPN connection with a Cisco concentrator?
thank you
I would like that one as well!
I've installed the VPN connection from the market on top of Cyanogen's Baconmod and it worked the first time. I'm going back to my companies Cisco concentrator also.
I'm using a group password - make sure you set that up correctly... Connects over WiFi or 3G with no issues. I'm not certain if it works well with certificates.
I am unlocked, rooted, RA Recover, and N1 Addon. Once you get all of that setup then go to the market and download "VPN Connections - root".
It should work barring any unforeseen configuration on your work side like TCP vs UDP, connections port changes, or anything else that would be propagated by a configuration file.
But if you unlock, root, and have Cyanogen's N1 Addon you should be fine unless you have a config challenge.

Cisco VPN works but has issues
Nexus is my first Android phone and I just rooted and baconized. I was so conflicted, but I told myself it was inevitable. The phone has been solid for a week and I knew that when the first ROM dropped with multi-touch, I wouldn't be able to resist. Might as well get a head start, right?
First thing I did was install VPN Connections from the Market and setup a connection to my company Cisco ASA. I was totally stoked when I was able to connect and VNC into my office PC. After I was done. I went back into VPN Connections and disconnected from the VPN. My Internet (WIFI) access did not come back. Next I tried disabling the VPN from within the app. No dice. I then forced VPN Connections closed and still no good. I ended up disabling and re-enabling WIFI to get it my net connection back. Is this normal?
networking hosed after disconnecting VPN...
Posted this over in the apps section, before I saw this thread:

Does this program place a .pcf file anywhere on the phone? I have a pcf file from my work VPN, and the options that are in the UI are not quite enough to cover what all I need to enter. I looked all over the place for a pcf file, but couldn't find one. I know that the get-a-robot initial version of this program had one, but I don't know where this new version keeps it (if it does at all).

Cisco VPN
I have a question about Cisco VPN. i've not tried using it on an android phone, because I wasn't sure if the way my company's VPN works is supported. My company uses a token file that needs to be "installed" on the computer for the Cisco VPN. So the question is, would the Cisco VPN solution for Android support this?
Thank you
Using CM beta 4 rom with update from Google and this program FCs when trying to connect to vpn.
Any helpful hints would be great.
not sure on the fc, maybe try another rom/kernel.
i wasn't able to get this to work using any of the cyan roms so i must be doing something wrong.
my vpn works fine with the settings i've used for both vpn client (windows cisco client) and vpnc (fedora linux client) but when i press connect on android it will instantly say failed, is there a log available for this application?

I just got my TB this morning, am working on configuring it to replace my DInc. I have an L2TP over IPSec (PSK) VPN set up on my DInc, and it works without any problem. I tried the exact same settings on my TB, and I get a box "Attention Unable to connect to the network. Do you want to try again?"
I get this message whether I try to connect from 3g/4g or from my own wireless network (on the same LAN as the VPN). When I look at the logs on the machine hosting the VPN, I see absolutely nothing when I attempt to connect from my TB (connecting from my DInc produces the right log entries). I can also connect to the VPN server from other clients (Windows 7, etc.) without any problems.
*Edit: Cannot connect from TB via PPTP either. Can connect from other PPTP clients.
I have been able to connect to my works VPN (using PPTP) without problem.
Very fast and stable so far! Used it for about 15 minutes without a hitch.

Thanks for the reply. I am still unable to connect directly from my TB, using PPTP or L2TP. If I configure my TB as a mobile hotspot and connect to the internet through it, though, I can connect to my VPN server using the TB's internet connection. But I still cannot connect from the TB using its VPN client.
Lovely. After doing some extensive reading, it sounds like the problem is likely the rom itself. Guess I'll be waiting for an update.
can you list what settings your using in your VPN? since this forum is aout people having trouble and not bragging about whats working?
I too am running dasBAMF and have no VPN's added nor can I find default settings

I'm guessing your post was directed at rajuabju, but hopefully I can help. I do finally have both PPTP and L2TP/IPSec VPN's working on my TB. With what are you having trouble?
Have you tried OpenVPN? I have had the most luck with that, as well as having it forward all traffic through the VPN.
I have a New Asus Transformer Pad with 4.0.3 on it.
I've added a new VPN IPSEC XAuth PSK to it and it connects fine but when I start the VPN then try to browse the net its reboots and if I try to access email it can't see anything.
I need to know if this is a bug or if something is configured wrong.
I've tried looking everywhere to find this out but can't find anyone that's had this problem so far.
I set up VPN on mine using IPSEC XAuth PSK, it says it connects, but I can't do anything (like remote into a PC). It doesn't crash though.
When I asked my Administrator to look, he could see the connection but there was no data coming through at all.
I've rooted mine and used VPN Widget which I used on my DHD and it works fine.
Update
Asus has since released and update but i'm not sure what it corrected. The version number hasn't changed so it must just be some backend fixes.
When i connect the VPN now it doesn't crash but as you said it doesn't look like its pushing the data over the VPN connection. The stats never change.
I've tried putting in the DNS search name, DNS server. That didn't help.
The forwarding route might help but i'm unsure what route i should be putting in there any ideas?
I'm a system/network administrator, if possible I'll see if I can try and set it up for myself and see if I can replicate the bug (if I can't it's probable that it's a misconfiguration on your end).
Might take a while though
Settings
I'm using a IPSEC XAuth PSK for the VPN connection.
Hopefully this will be able to give you the same results.
Same Issue w Asus, but not Acer
I have been waiting for a while to have this resolved as I want to be able to use my Transformer Prime to vpn to my work. My IPSEC XAUTH PSK connects as well, but will not allow me to remote desktop into my work PC.
I bought an Acer A500 for my daughter and this morning I was able to update it to ICS. Tried the exact same VPN settings, connected and remoted into my work PC flawlessly.
Looking forward to the next firmware update for ICS / Transformer Prime so it hopefully resolves the issues.
Found a VPN that works
So that people know I found a VPN that works with PSK X/Auth.
Its pretty new made by Matthias Meier called VpnCilla.
There is a trial to test with but you then have to buy it for $5.46.
Try it out it works.
As an alternative, you can set up a pptp vpn using the vpn setup wizard in windows 7 for free (assuming you have windows 7). I can confirm that this works with the 300. It uses microsoft point to point 128bit encryption, and can be configured to require password encryption. Its not exactly high end encryption, but its better than no encryption or novpn connection at all. It will protect you from some kiddie running a packet sniffer program.
I am trying to use my Driod Bionic to get to my work dekstop. This is what I am doing. I am firing up the wifi hotspot (paid through Verizon) and connecting my laptop to that. I verify that it has internet access. Next I open my Cisco VPN client and connect to my work network (I get proper IP address, DNS servers and search domain). When I open remote desktop and try to get to my work PC (or any other pc/server) it times out.
We also have a Veriaon MiFi and I do the exact same thing and it works flawlessly. It seems to be related to the phone. I also have a co-worker trying to do the same thing with an iPhone and having the same result.
It appears to be something in the phone blocking traffic. Has anyone else had this problem and got it to work? When I call Verizon they say they don't support it past connecting to the VPN. Another agent toled me I need to get an app to ebable the RDP passthrough.
Thanks a million!
Hi
I'm just making this post as I can't really see any solutions for this.
Let me first explain the situation we're in, we have a bunch of laptops that need access to the internet and this building provides free wifi, YAY. The problem is, the wifi is unstable where we are, randomly doesn't allow computers to connect to it, and drops computers from the network for no reason. The landlord is pretty much unhelpful here, and we're only here for 2 weeks so we're just living with it right now.
I have a contracted phone with unlimited data that I tether with USB to my computer and then run a VPN on the computer which works fine for me, but I want to get the other laptops connected too.
The problem is my phone hasn't got tethering, so as soon as it detects a user agent that corresponds with a desktop based browser, it blocks the data connection until the signal is completely reestablished.
This is even a problem for my laptop as sometimes theres a random HTTP request that blocks the connections before the VPN can connect.
So the solution I really want for this is a VPN to be running on the phone, and then a hotspot to run on the phone. Then the laptops can connect to the phone and theoretically be behind the VPN, so everything can be connected and the connection won't get blocked.
I've tried all the iptables forwarding and masquerade rules to no avail, OpenVPN with "Use default route" to force all routes through the VPN also does not allow any computer on the hotspot to connect to get a data connection.
For more info, the phone is a SGS3 i9300 which is currently running the latest CM10.1 nightlies. The VPN is from HMA.
Does anyone have any suggestions for this?
Thanks for the time.
New Nexus 5 (2 weeks old) and currently running Stock / Rooted. I have successfully connected my phone to my work VPN, and other VPN networks that I use but the issue is when tethering with USB (may be the same with wifi) my IP address is still my cell providers network. Everyone else at work has an app they use to tether with their blackberry and I had to be cool and switch to Android first with the Nexus.
Is it possible to route the VPN traffic on the phone through USB tethering to mac or pc?

Yes, run VPN client on your MAC/PC, it goes through the tether to use you phone as modem, VPN layered begins in the PC through the tether.
The only thing I've ever had to worry about is Android and windows has different encryption defaults, you might have to toggle options til it works.

Thanks. Yeah, I was hoping it was possible on the phone itself. Our PC's get reimaged everyday (stupidly strict with the work computers) and have to start fresh and input the settings again.. and again.. and again. It would have just been one less thing to worry about.

Connect to my work network over VPN through the phone (which works) & then tether that connection to my work pc (which has some crazy restrictions).
- I connected to my work VPN on my phone using the built in Android VPN.
- Everything on the phone acts like it is suppose to, I can get on the INTRAnet, browse network drives, etc...
- I can tether the phone through USB with no issue however none of the traffic is routed through the VPN connection.
I don't really care about any tethering limits with networks as we have unlimited (including tethering) with Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile. I tried a couple of the tricks I am finding out but noting is letting me route my phones VPN traffic over the tether.
- Made sure changed the settings to IPv4/IPv6
- Tried out the tether hack by adding tether_dun_required 0 to the SQL
No luck so far I will keep hunting around this weekend. If nothing works I will just have to get the IT people to install some VPN app into the PC Image for me which will probably take a month or so.

Idea 1:
Bootable USB stick running Ubuntu 14.04, you put all your setting to your heart's content into that image, you can then use the desktop device just as a big keyboard/mouse/screen and bypass any software restrictions and leave no footprint. Ubuntu does VPN.
Then its just the F key to press, F12 say on a Lenovo and anything you save is in the USB stick so any re-imaging is irrelevant as you never use that re-imaged at all.
Idea 2:
Remote desktop capability, your remote end runs Remote Desktop servers (e.g.Citriix) then from the local PC you connect to the gateway.
Idea 3:
Try different VPN software in Android. So sounds like the VPN on the Android device is layered only ontop for the Android apps not the whole device, so you need to put the VPN layer lower down. Try instead of Android's builtin VPN capability (Settings, ....VPN) try the VPNRoot app
Idea 4:
(I got plenty more... probably you'll like Idea 3 as its easiest for you)

Thats exactly what I was thinking but I run into the issue of needing to use the proprietary work software on the PC. I might do this just for the hell of it anyway because its always fun but it will probably just add in another step not needed.

Hit refresh I was mid-edit oops send, put in more ideas..... you reminded me of a related problem with PPP Widget and USB 4G dongle which is an Android issue with VPN I got a workaround.
USB bootable sticks are cool, they cost nothing really an old 2GB stick, and lets you turn any borrowed x86 device into what YOU want. Handy for if laptops have a bad boot drive or bad OS issue. Lifesafer, part of your kit. I mentioned 14.04 as it has out-the-box MMTP and knows Nexus without tweaks and it Bluetooth tethers well to Android. I'm running it

Ugh yeah, I should have tried a different VPN app as that might fix my issue. I will give VPNRoot a shot later tonight. Not that it matters for what I need done but the "hacks" I used actually shows all data I used was coming from the phone, nice to know if I ever have to pay for my own service again.
