I was looking at the cases posted on Amazon for the 6P so far and quickly noticed that almost all of them appear to block the Laser Auto-Focus. Whatever the cause, if you buy a case that does this it WILL break camera focusing which will make the camera practically useless. Be warned and shop smart.
The laser focus is the black part right below the camera in the middle? I thought that was a mic.

Do we know if it's that center section under the black bar or is it a sensor to the right of the LED? There is definitely a sensor to the right of the camera that most cases are blocking.
Go to http://www.engadget.com/2015/09/29/meet-the-nexus-6p-hands-on/ and watch the video starting around 1:44 and through to 2:10. You can see some sensors to the right of the flash.
Great point. The two that I bought appear (in the renders) to be covering the Autofocus. If you check the cases in the Play Store you see there is an opening.

If you look at the 5X, the black bar to the left of the flash is the Laser Focus. It is the same on the 6P, but reversed. A case should be open to the right of the flash to prevent covering.

That's what I figured, so most cases are blocking it.
I immediately noticed that yesterday looking through the cases on amazon that one of cases looked ugly with a weird shape around the camera, then I noticed that was important to not block something. I went back and noticed the most of the cases on amazon were blocking something. Luckily the case I had already ordered has a cut out for whatever the heck most are blocking
http://www.androidpolice.com/2015/0...6p-cases-appear-to-block-the-laser-autofocus/
For those looking for pictures and more info
This means the $2 Verus case deal is not much of a deal anymore since that case will block the laser autofocus.
Darn! :-/

I'm just going to wait. There is ZERO reason to buy one now since we won't get it for at least 4-5 weeks. A case from amazon will arrive in days. Just start looking at the options a week or so before your phone ships.

Verus has said that the image is just a render and the final product will have the cutout...
Actually there is something else that the Verus Case might miss, the section for the fingerprint sensor is smaller than the Google Approved Cases.

Just FYI. It looks like Verus has updated the render on their Amazon listing: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015GHQGM2?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00.
So glad I picked this up for $2 a few days ago.

Oh no! I just bought this case:
http://www.amazon.com/REDShield®-Fl...sbs_107_2?ie=UTF8&refRID=18HWZF7WBQBRZ1H1BY5N
it already shipped so I can't cancel. Will the case still affect the laser autofocus even though its clear? Worst case scenario...Ill take a razor blade to it and cut the hole another half inch out.

I just got it from Amazon. The first thing I thought when I got it was "wow, it's not even wrapped in plastic. someone can just open it without leaving any mark." I turned the box upside down to see what's underneath it, and there were two broken seals. They read "DO NOT ACCEPT IF SEAL IS BROKEN."
I opened the box and checked everything (without turning it on), but I was not able to find any flaw. I even saw an unboxing video on YouTube to compare, and everything seemed exactly the same.
So I have a choice to make: keep it or return it.
If I return it, I have to either wait until Monday to get it shipped or go to a store tomorrow. If I go to store, I end up spending more than $50 additionally due to tax.
If I keep it, well, I have it now.
Well I obviously wanted it as soon as possible, purchasing it on the day it became available. So I don't know what to do. Do you guys think it will be fine to just use it? I guess I can still return it any time (is it for a month for Amazon?) if it turns out to have any flaw, and because I really want to keep it, I feel like keeping it.
What do you guys think?
Well amazon do tend to break the seal to make sure everything is in there, happened to me a few times but as long as it works I don't bother with it. Zedomax had made some unboxing videos and his device also had seal broken but worked fine so if it works then I think you should be alright

VERY ODD indeed! Mine also purchased from Worst Buy had one of its two seals broken but everything was as new.
Why do you think this is?
Jumping in with a 'one of mine was broken from Amazon' as well. That's less of a problem for me than their new shipping company just leaving my tablet outside the door to my apartment. Apparently 'signing' is too much trouble for them. Never thought I'd miss UPS
My G'Note 10.1 came wrapped in the plastic. You can see in this video when I opened the tablet, but then again maybe because it's the 3G version.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. That happens sometimes on Amazon. I think they are checking to make sure the proper item is in the box.
As long as the tablet has all of its original protective plastic on it and functions properly it is likely unused.

Hey guys. I'm glad to be a member in the forum.
I just received my first tablet/android device; the grey 32 GB Note 10.1 from Amazon. It came in a plain cardboard box with no Amazon markings except for the text on the return label reading: "Amazon Fulfillment Services, 172 Trade St. Lexington, KY 40511" No packing slip and no padding/popcorn. The actual product box (slightly scuffed) had both product seals broken and says "16GB" on the lid's top in the lower left corner but the a white sticker on the side of the lid says 32GB.
Does any of the above sound strange? I think I'm going to return it unless you guys suggest otherwise.
I received the KLD case off ebay not too long ago. The case came about a week after I placed an order (this includes weekend days). So first things first, the case is well made. I remember someone had expressed that the back stitching may be of concern but I looked at it and it looks like it will hold up just fine with moderate use.
I mentioned in my other review thread that this case is a major disappointment. The reason being is because I bought the case thinking it would have the auto wake/sleep feature. This case does NOT support this feature. Because of the lack of magnets in this case, it leads to a second major disappointment. The cover even when closed will flap around if you were to have it in your bag.
Because it is PU leather, it does smell VERY plastic like.
Finally, I chose to have the white option, if you take a look at the link, you will see that its a very pure white color. However, the cover I received is beige NOT white at all.
In conclusion, do I like this case? No, not at all. I can't recommend it to anyone. This is a cheaper alternative to the Samsung Book Cover (though I don't know if the official book cover supports the wake/sleep feature).
Pros
-Slim
-Nice cut outs (look at pics below)
-Not too expensive- I paid only $16.50 (free shipping)
Cons
-Does NOT have wake/sleep feature
-Cover does NOT stay in place because of the lack of magnets
-Bad smell even after leaving it in the open for 3 days
-The case I bought is WHITE, this case is clearly BEIGE
I give the case a 4/10. The quality is great but the lack of features that many other cases have for a cheaper price hampers it's overall rating.
Finally my search for a perfect slim case isn't over- I bought yet another case from Moko- that looks great. I'll post up yet another review when it's out. Check it out here! :

Thanks for sharing this great review! It is too bad the KDL wasn't very good after all. And I'm surprised it did not support wake/sleep.

That does look really promising! It clearly has a magnetic closure and uses magnets to hold the stand in place. And I like the broad assortment of colors.
A few other observations (about the MoKo Ultra Slim Lightweight Smart-shell Stand Case), just from looking at the pics, etc. on Amazon:
It appears that the shell is a bit thicker than other cases I've considered. In fact, it seems from the pictures like the shell is thick enough that the camera lens is actually recessed (instead of sticking out); I'm not 100% certain as it could just be an unintentional optical illusion. But if the camera lens is recessed that could be nice for protecting the lens a little bit. On the other hand though I do wonder about added weight and how that will feel (ie, if it will be noticeably heavier?). The Galaxy Note 8 weighs 11.7 ounces (338g) and I believe the official Samsung Book Cover weighs 3.2 ounces (90.72g), which makes for 14.9 ounces total (just shy of a 1lb, which seems like a decently light amount). The Amazon page indicates a weight of the MoKo at 5oz, which (if correct) is just a little heavier than the Samsung case, so hopefully not enough to be noticeable.
I don't see any mention of wake/sleep being supported. But I know you mentioned the other Moko case you tried did support wake/sleep, so hopefully this one does too!
I wonder how well the PU leather is going to hold up to folding the front cover flat against the back. It seems that would put a bit of stress on the part that will be bending around the case so I wouldn't be surprised to see cracking start rather quickly in that area (depending on the quality).
I just noticed in one of the pictures (the one for the white color, where a hand is holding the case in the air, demonstrating the magnets holding the stand in a triangle) that the GN8 is popping out of the case a little (in the bottom right of the picture). Hopefully that was just an oversight on their part as they were swapping out cases for the pictures, and not actually indicative of a loose fit. Pictures of the other colors appear to be fitting snugly in those same poses.
I look forward to your next review! I think I'm down to considering the above Moko and the Poetic Slimline (mentioned by someone else). I'll keep my fingers crossed that this Moko will be significantly better than the other one you reviewed! :fingers-crossed:

Hey, that's great to hear--this case really sounds promising!
I have one of these as well. I got a light blue one. I really like it except for the lack of magnets. I WANT sleep wake and would like for it to stay in place. Also I found that if I put it in my bag and it is kind of full it will turn the screen on and run the battery down.
Thats total crap if sellers are saying these things are "smart wake" when they aren't. I was hoping mine would arrive soon, but if it isn't going to work then looks like I'll be looking elsewhere.

and it is a major disappointment - totally agree with OP. But, does anyone know exactly where the magnet should go? It should be possible to attach a slim, rubberized magnetic on the case in a discrete manner so as not to make the case totally ugly but yet turn on the Note?

I think from some videos I saw (a few weeks ago) of the official Samsung Book Cover case that it seemed like the magnet must be somewhere on the left side as the wake/sleep seemed to be triggered by movement on the left side as opposed to the right side being lifted (which perhaps might be done in order avoid errant wake/sleep events since the right side can slide around some on some cases?). My guess is that the magnet would be somewhere within the bezel area and not under the screen proper. The reason being is that the Wacom technology works in part through electromagnetic fields (if I'm remembering correctly) and I would imagine that a wake/sleep magnet would somehow complicate that. So if you have a magnet to experiment with you could try running it around the bezel (starting with the left side) and see if you can trigger the wake/sleep. If it were me I'd start in the middle of the left bezel (when in portrait orientation).
If you don't have a magnet on hand you could also try various metal objects that are capable of carrying a magnetic charge as some technology works by responding the disruption/change of a magnetic field, which doesn't actually require another magnet, but just an object with enough of a hint of its own natural field to cause a change (I believe this is how some stoplights work here in the US, where there are wires in the ground to notify the stoplight a car is waiting, because the car disrupts/changes the electromagnetic field of the wire). I'm not totally sure if this principal can work on this small of a scale or not, but it could be worth a shot for some limited experiments.

I have just ordered this one from ebay:
cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=121107475861
(I cannot post links yet, you'll need to copy and paste in your web browser)
It is cheap and looks slim and similar to the KLD one and it has a magnetic tab to keep it securely closed.
According to the description it supports "auto sleep and wake up when close and open" but I am not sure if I believe it. I can always open a dispute if it is not true

Yea I thought so too when I ordered. If it's the KLD you ordered, I can definitely confirm that it doesn't support that function. I FINALLY got my sale disputed
Update
Even though I didn't like this case, I wanted to use it because it was slim. So while I waited for the Moko Shell (which I use now) I used the KLD everday for a solid week.
3 more things I've noticed that makes it even worse!
1- extended use with the cover as a stand eventually makes the cover pop up and as far as I've seen, it hasn't been able to flatten back out properly
2- Because this case lacks the sleep/wake function, you have to turn on the tablet with either the power button (or home). Unfortunately, I guess KLD really wanted to add that protection there- so there's a bezel above the power button- but this makes pressing the volume & power button a lot more difficult!
3- Finally, folding the cover back is also a problem. The stitching for the cover looks nice but when it's folded, it makes the tablet poof up (notice the rather big gap in the folded area- not present on other cases). Writing on the tablet with the cover folded back causes a "bouncy" feel.

Thanks for the additional followup and pics! All 3 of those things are very helpful to know!
Unfortunately, I ordered the KLD case a few days before reading this thread. It seems nice enough. Its the style I like. But I only popped my Note in and out of it. I didn't use it for any length of time. I had also ordered a Rock Mix case and that's what I'm using. It does have sleep/wake function. I filed a complaint with the KLD seller and he initially offered a full refund if I sent the case back (with him paying shipping) or $5.00 refund. He then sent another offer to refund me 100% and let me keep the case if I gave him positive feedback. I accidently accepted the $5.00 offer. That's fine though because I wanted to keep the case. It's stored away as a backup.
Since the folio covers are 2 sided with different colors, I'm wondering: can you flip the folio case over if you want to change colors?
I like the peach/maroon colored folio cover (Coral Amethyst), but I would much rather have the Maroon showing for the front than the Peach side shown in stock photos.
I think the Vietnamese YouTube review video floating around showed the lime cover attached, with the lime facing out on the back of the device. That would mean that if you close the cover, the lime is inside, and the darker navy (?) is on the outside. It would seem to be reversible.
you can teach me how to do this okay?

I watched the cover in use in a french video posted in another thread, and it doesn't look like there hinges to close the cover, like you're imagining. Looking at the video, it looks like you peel the cover entirely off the front and then stick it to the back, and vice versa. It doesn't seem to fold around on a hinge like the iPad smart cover. In which case, I guess you can probably stick it to the tablet in either direction each time you "close" it. I wish it had the hinge though. I don't really want to buy a cover that comes entirely off every time I want to use my tablet...

You're right. The first video review was out before the French one, and didnt show it being taken off and put on the back, I think. From the French video, I agree, it appears hingeless, but it is probably reversible. I still have one pre-ordered from Amazon but, ugh, I kind of want it attached in some way too. But who knows! Maybe from now on I will prefer ones that come off entirely. Those magnets better be strong enough to keep it from shifting or flopping around.

And that's the thing as well. I don't want to pull my tablet out of a bag and have the cover left behind. But my other issue with it is that it seems like it will be a hassle to take it off and put it on. The iPad smart covers are so easy to flip open and closed with one hand because you don't have to line it up and you only have to grab one side of it. Seems like moving the magic cover around may be quite the ordeal. I might end up getting one anyways, I don't know. Since I can't seem to order one to Canada yet anyways, I guess I'll wait and see how everyone else ends up liking it. In the meantime, my nexus 9 will either be naked or wearing a MOFRED Ultra Slim case (basically a smart cover knockoff) that I managed to order from the UK for £0.01 haha

I can see how you can make the assumption that you can just flip the cover around, but then you're not accounting that flipping around the cover could reverse the polarity of the magnet, thereby making the other side of the cover repel away from the tablet rather than being attracted to it. I hope I'm wrong though..

Oh that's an interesting point. I would have never thought of that.... Man, that would be dumb. Well, when someone finally gets one, they'll have to settle all these questions for us once and for all.

I am convinced that i is reversible. If you look at the product page on Google Play, towards the bottom you see two renderings of the cover. Using the green/blue one as an example, the image next to Takes Pictures in a Snap shows it attached to the back, blue side in, green side out, and the corner is folded over.
Immediately below that is another rendering of the cover as a typing stand for the tablet in landscape mode. Blue side is now out, green side is in, and presumably, it's still magnetically attached along that top edge.
But here's an update on the arrival -- I spoke to an Amazon representative this morning who said that they were informed that the covers have been delayed from the manufacturer, and that no retailer has them in stock right now. She said Amazon has been told that they'll receive a shipment on December 1. So, looks like we will all keep waiting to find out for sure.
I think it will work. Magnets repel each other when the poles are opposite while this is magnet to metal which is different. Somebody with a fridge magnet should be able to check easily.

There are in fact magnets in the tablet itself. If you put two Nexus 9 next to each other, side by side, the two tablets will repel each other. I saw a youtube video of this somewhere showing this.
Is nobody concerned about the "inside" of the cover (i.e. the part facing the display) being used as the stand in the upright position? I'm a bit paranoid of it massaging dust/dirt particles into the screen...
So in looking for a case for my Graphite 6P I've come to the conclusion that I'd like a case that left the whole black bar open on the back. There's obviously a lot going on as far as camera, flash, lasers, NFC, and antennas in there. Also the more I see the professional pictures of the device the more I enjoy the unique design feature.
Anyone found a case that leaves the whole bump open?

The Verus case got a redesign that does not block the laser auto focus, its just not reflected in the photos but will be as soon as the updated images are posted.

This does cover the black bar partially... however, its from Google's store so I'm sure its a safe buy. On the pricey side, but I think it looks very neat.
Nexus 6P case
I also ordered the graphite. Originally ordered the 5X, then saw the graphic with the differences between the 2 phones and went back and cancelled my original purchase and got the 6P instead.
The folio case on the store thats not available yet does not cover the bar at all.
The original renders of the Moko case showed it not having anything across the entire visor, which was one reason I ordered it. I just received it today and it matches the current images on Amazon, which were updated after I ordered. I can imagine leaving that glass exposed might not have been the best idea, but the way it is now still looks ok, I guess. It looks like it will have plenty of room for the laser module, but that's still to be seen once I have my phone in hand.
Disappointing, I think it can be adequately protected and it's GG4 to boot. I'll keep looking. Some no name case company will make it eventually.

I was wanting a case just like this too. I think leaving it open would look really cool

Ah this case would be perfect if it wasn't actually a folding cover case! ? I could always cut off the front.. But I'm afraid the edge it cut off from won't be smooth :/

Yeah, that would be no good cutting off the front. Since one of the two first party cases leaves the visor exposed, I'm sure plenty of third party cases will follow suit. It's a very distinct design cue on the phone, and I'm sure your not the only one that wants to show it off :cyclops:
I bought this and a different one to see which I would like better.
This is the Pleson 4pack camera lens protector, ordered it off of Amazon.

The Pleson was 7.99 with Prime shipping. Just got it today, ordered on Wednesday (16th).
What's funny is, included in the box was a card saying I was selected to receive a $10 refund. *Shrug*
Is a protector really needed if my case has a nice lip? I've never thought of covering a camera other than my selfie one.

Have you noticed any differences in image quality in your pictures after installation? Also, is there any hue or washed out images when you use the flash? Thanks in advance!

Yes, I have noticed some things. First, these protectors have this weird haze on it and can't get rid of it no matter how well you clean it. Taking some shots in my kitchen, there was a slight difference with it on and off. This particular item, I'm returning, because it's just a POS. Avoid this one. The other I purchased, I think it's ozero? That is a little better, but even that one has the weird haze problem. Have not noticed a difference in picture quality with it on or off for the ozero. Hope I helped!
And FYI, I'm also returning this item because they had a card inside that said I qualified to get a refund of $10. But the email they sent privately, wants me to leave a 5star review and then they'll PayPal me the $10. So no, I would never rate this one 5 Stars. I would rather return it and get my refund.

Dang, that's what I was worried about the haze/hue in the photos. They would need to widen the hole around the flash to avoid this issue. Sounds like the company is buying reviews. Sadly I have already ordered it and when it comes I'll put it on and see how bad it is and then return it. Guess another option is a skin but I don't want to bother with those. Hopefully it will be okay with a case that always keeps the lens elevated from all surfaces. Thanks for the information!

I wish I had another camera to take a picture of the haze on the protector for you. But hopefully you're won't have that problem. Yeah they definitely are buying reviews, trying to search how to report them for that.
On another note, I bought 2 Spigen cases: neo hybrid and rugged armor, they both elevate the area around the camera.

I'll try it when they come this Friday and see if there is a haze or not. I'm pretty sure I will have it if you did unless they somehow updated their product in the short period of time. I have the Google Fabric case and the Ringke Fusion X and they both have a nice lip to elevate the camera. I don't keep anything else in my phone pocket so theortically I should be okay even w/o the cover. But I would like it for peace of mind due to the larger surface area.

I tried this screen protector for the camera and got a very weird effect when I tried taking a photo with the flash. The photo was all white - or nearly so - like the flash was getting picked up and spread out through the glass protector - total piece of crap. Sending back now...
Got them and they're utter trash and seem like they're plastic and not glass. Returned.
