I just got it from Amazon. The first thing I thought when I got it was "wow, it's not even wrapped in plastic. someone can just open it without leaving any mark." I turned the box upside down to see what's underneath it, and there were two broken seals. They read "DO NOT ACCEPT IF SEAL IS BROKEN."
I opened the box and checked everything (without turning it on), but I was not able to find any flaw. I even saw an unboxing video on YouTube to compare, and everything seemed exactly the same.
So I have a choice to make: keep it or return it.
If I return it, I have to either wait until Monday to get it shipped or go to a store tomorrow. If I go to store, I end up spending more than $50 additionally due to tax.
If I keep it, well, I have it now.
Well I obviously wanted it as soon as possible, purchasing it on the day it became available. So I don't know what to do. Do you guys think it will be fine to just use it? I guess I can still return it any time (is it for a month for Amazon?) if it turns out to have any flaw, and because I really want to keep it, I feel like keeping it.
What do you guys think?
Well amazon do tend to break the seal to make sure everything is in there, happened to me a few times but as long as it works I don't bother with it. Zedomax had made some unboxing videos and his device also had seal broken but worked fine so if it works then I think you should be alright

Mine was the same, if that makes you feel better. Everything seems to be in order for me, too. Think I'll keep mine.
I did get a small ziploc that hold a small metal ring and several small black and white plastic rods, but haven't figured out their purpose, yet.

The small ziploc seems to be delivered, I've seen it on several unboxing videos on Youtube.
I think it's containing replacement "tips" for the S-Pen, according to page 38 in this manual (in Swedish, but I think you get it anyway :fingers-crossed you can replace the tip on the S-Pen.
Edit: You can see the ziploc in this video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f2LhHcbTsz0&feature=player_detailpage#t=46s

I got mine at Best Buy for in-store pickup today and immediately noticed that 1 of the 2 seals was broken. Asked them to go get me another one and both seals on it were still intact. Not sure what's going on here, lol

VERY ODD indeed! Mine also purchased from Worst Buy had one of its two seals broken but everything was as new.
Why do you think this is?
Jumping in with a 'one of mine was broken from Amazon' as well. That's less of a problem for me than their new shipping company just leaving my tablet outside the door to my apartment. Apparently 'signing' is too much trouble for them. Never thought I'd miss UPS
My G'Note 10.1 came wrapped in the plastic. You can see in this video when I opened the tablet, but then again maybe because it's the 3G version.

I don't know, the girl working the pickup counter suggested it could've happened during shipping... I think more likely an employee started to open it and then changed his/her mind, lol
Could have been a demo....
I wouldn't worry too much about it. That happens sometimes on Amazon. I think they are checking to make sure the proper item is in the box.
As long as the tablet has all of its original protective plastic on it and functions properly it is likely unused.

I returned the broken seal one to Amazon and they overnighted me a new one!! Seal was intact on the new one.

Hey guys. I'm glad to be a member in the forum.
I just received my first tablet/android device; the grey 32 GB Note 10.1 from Amazon. It came in a plain cardboard box with no Amazon markings except for the text on the return label reading: "Amazon Fulfillment Services, 172 Trade St. Lexington, KY 40511" No packing slip and no padding/popcorn. The actual product box (slightly scuffed) had both product seals broken and says "16GB" on the lid's top in the lower left corner but the a white sticker on the side of the lid says 32GB.
Does any of the above sound strange? I think I'm going to return it unless you guys suggest otherwise.

The paint on the kickstand is chipping away, but that's not really a big deal but now the back of the speaker is lifting up. The only thing I am afraid of is if they send me another phone it more then likely will be a refurbish unit and on top of that the phone that I have now don't really have any reboot problems. My XDA fellows what should I do?
Oh yea I know somebody going say I dropped my phone and etc, that's not the case I notice the build quality on this phone is not very good
I'd be leary given the rebooting issues, but to be honest I have faith in refurbs. Never treated me wrong.

VERY little. I assume you're just talking about the little plastic grate over it, in which case a little dab'll do ya just fine. Careful with that.
Keep in mind I don't own a TBolt yet, but I've been around the block with gadgets and gizmos.

Handle my phone very carefully....I notice the paint coming off the same day I purchased it. Never dropped my phone.
I came from the hd2 and imo it has way better build quality then this phone
I would just put a tiny dap of super glue if you go that route, also i have had good luck with refurbs over the years but i know several people that have not been so lucky unfortenetly.
Also if the kick stand is pealing hit it with a little sand paper and polish looks way better that way. Saw a post some one made in the general forum and it looked really nice so did it myself as well.
DO NOT USE SUPER GLUE!
My plastic speaker grill on my Bolt started to come up so I put some super glue on it thinking it'd stick it back down. WRONG! The glue started to come up through the small holes in the speaker grill and now it's very rough to the touch and I cannot remove it.
Also, the paint on my kickstand is also peeling, but that's not a problem. All you need to do is sand the paint of with a Scotchbrite Pad and then polish it. It looks better than new.

reason why I dont want to go the reboot route is because I am real scared to get a unit that's going reboot every sec. So far I am really not having much problems with this unit when it comes to rebooting. The speaker thing is really bothering me..its like when you a little kid and you keep on picking at your cut

I say that if you have not voided your warranty send it back. This is what a warranty is for.
If you get a phone that reboots all the time keep sending them back as well untill you get a working Thunderbolt. Enough people send the phone back for "real" warranty issues and maybe HTC will improve their build quality.
Sorry but just like dadsterflip said I'm very picking when it comes to cosmetic as well and what your describing would drive me nuts or I would just end up hating the phone.
I returned my first Thunderbolt because of the light leak at the bottom of the screen and made them open 4 brand new Thunderbolts to find one that did not have the same issue.

Yeah, that's what some dude on twitter told me he used to sand down his kickstand lol... I actually tried it a few hours after that post and it didn't work to well... maybe I was doing it wrong, though lol.
Got my refurbished phone yesterday and it rebooted five times today...I am sending it back and keeping this phone wit the broken speaker grill...I'm not getting another unit until they release the new update at the end of the month...couldn't hang up phone calls...couldn't put the phone on airplane mode....really disappointed with HTC and this phone...I can't wait till a better phone comes out
The coating on my kickstand started peeling like two days after I bought the phone. I've been peeling it off ever since. Definitely not a misuse scenario, just a poor coating. Doesn't really bother me since it'll all be gone soon anyways. I'd be a little pissed if the speaker grille started coming off though.
spoke to about three representatives and they said an updated is coming at the end of the month.....The speaker grill is really bothering me tho but I can't take swapping out refurbish phones just find a working unit...hopefully the new update fixes this issue
I heard the update is being released 6-15-11...

Heard end of the month...one rep said its gingerbread but I don't think he knows what he's talking about
ordered mine last week with free super saver from amazon, today it just shipped , estimated delivery date is this saturday, so i'm waiting for it and so excited.
but i just read some reviews on amazon and i see people are complaining about the screen, they say their screen can be cracked easily and only cracks after one or two months, this make me worry a lot because after one month you can't return it, then i google tf300 cracked screen (if you just type "tf300 cr" you'll see google suggestion "tf300 cracked screen" which means there's a lot of cracked screens) and i saw a lot of threads about this, so is the screen really easy to get broken? did they get defective items or is this because of asus design?
some people even said in the first month it was working properly but on the 31st day (which is 1 day after the return period passed) the screen cracked when they hold the tablet.
so what do you guys think about this? how long have you used your tablet? and is it working ok?
yes ..I've noticed that the tf300 screen cracks easily....a friend of mine cracked her tf 300 screen by a light drop and had to get it replaced for approx 400 $ ....drops are not covered under warranty ...so I am gonna be real careful with mine ...
Yeah I would be carefull with it. Buy a screen protector, wont protect the screen that much but its something. Its not exactly gorilla glass.

I know it's not gorilla glass but i think it shouldn't be cracked so easy, a reviewer on amazon said it cracked because he hold the tablet on the right side by one hand,
Do you guys use any protective case and which one?
The TF300 does flex easily so we should be handling it carefully.
It would be great if you can get protective case or sleeve for the tablet. I cannot get any protective case or sleeve for TF300 in my country as the tablet is not yet available locally so I just use a netbook sleeve (bag) that fits TF300 when I commute.
The back plate also is easily removable (without voiding the warrante, as long as you don't lift up the stuff *under* the back plate).
I've heard talk of getting some stronger and nicer back plates made. Mine is currently rocking a custom milled aluminum plate which I made at a machine shop with the original as a template. Makes it quite a bit sturdier, and not too much heavier.
Perhaps some time soon, when they've been out a bit longer, some manufacturer will step up and start selling something similar.
Until then, I'd look around for a sleeve or soft-case to protect it from bumps and whatnot, and just be careful not to drop it. Treat it like an expensive, fragile laptop. (Which is what it amounts to in the end anyway, hehe.)
If you have any more questions and you can't find the answer here on the board, feel free to PM me about the TF300. I'm working semi-independently on several projects concerning it at once.
Dave
EDIT: I hold my tablet by one /edge/ all the time and I've never had any structure problems even before the back plate mod. So you should be fine as long as you don't drop it or something.

But how does that work, here i'd need to pay a lot for squaretrade warranty, i've heard their services are very good

Actually giggled to myself here at work reading that!
Anyway, yeah I've just picked up one of these 3 days ago, and so far so good. Sometimes carry it around holding it from the side with one hand.
There is a tiny little wiggly line under the screen though, and not sure if it a bit of dust, or a really small crack. :/ Unless I really focus on it though, don't really notice it so. Not sure whether should take it back for a new one or not. Seems a bit of an insignificant reason really...

Screen Cracks ASUS Transformer TF300T
I had my TF300T for two weeks and was impressed with the interface and processor speed, so I decided to get a keyboard to make it even more like a laptop. The first time I pressed the tablet onto the keyboard, the screen on the tablet got a hairline crack from the right plastic insert side, 3/4 of the way up the screen. The tablet touch screen stopped working and even with the keyboard or a stand alone mouse I could not get a cursor. After many back and fourth's with ASUS, they still refuse to warranty a broken screen. They say physical damage to the tablet is user caused. ASUS is charging $200 for the repair. I paid $400 for the tablet and $150 for the keyboard. Not a very good financial investment. It is my understanding that the TF300T does not have gorilla glass like some of the previous models. So In the end ASUS cheapened this model up and does not warrant their own design defect.
Well i have mine for over a month now, got it with the dock and always store it "docked"
No screen protector or case
I "dock - undock" it often and never had a problem with the screen.
I also hold it with one hand, no problem still.
But i am always careful and gentle with it
So yea, same wonders here, I just got mine yesterday, but is is really that big of a problem? I know we are a small population, but has this issue happened to a lot of users?
And now the pristine MAO case has some horrendous chips and scratches, and I'm really pissed off.
I can't seem to find a reliable or legit looking seller on eBay that will sell a genuine MAO case, the new bevelled USB version. I'm based in the UK, but wouldn't mind buying from an international seller that ships to the UK also. Does anyone know of any good eBay sellers selling genuine HTC parts?
Failing that, does anyone know roughly how much it would cost if I were to send it back to HTC to replace it? I asked HTC support but they don't sell spare parts and can't give a quote unless I send the phone first. Any estimate would be great.
Thanks.

I'd say you're pretty lucky the screen is intact. Get some black nail polish and fill in the chips, then put one of the super thin cases/skins on it.

The chips are pretty bad. Nail polish is gonna look hideous. Plus the whole point of this phone was to not put it in a case. I'm usually very careful with dropping a phone, this is the first time it's ever happened in my life.
I think I'm just gonna buy a housing off eBay and replace it. And if the housing turns out to be crap (even though they assure it is genuine) then next step would be to insure it and then make a claim.
Hi,
I got a MAO back cover from here: http://www.parts4repair.com/htc-one-s-back-cover/
I asked by e-mail and they say it's an original HTC repair part. I received and replaced the cover and it is indeed indistinguishable from the original. I don't know how it will hold out over time, though.
Before ordering the back cover, I asked an authorized HTC repair service in Switzerland about the repair cost; they said 59 CHF for the cover + labor costs. Like in your case, they cannot estimate labor costs without seeing the phone.
I replaced the back cover myself. It is not that difficult, but you lose warranty (there is a VOID sticker you need to puncture). Be careful that the MAO back cover is structurally different from the gray one: under the lower plastic "flap", there is another black plastic piece that needs to be removed before you can pull the phone from the back cover (first unscrew the two black cross-type screws, then pull out the plastic piece).
Good luck!

Thanks, I knew the difference between the black and gray ones and since mine is black I just want to fix the fact that it's chipped. I'm comfortable with replacing it myself so I might just get it from the website you linked. I just have one question though, can you notice on the replacement cover you ordered whether it has the "new style" beveled USB port? I only want to bother replacing it if it has that USB bevel which indicates it won't have the chipping issue. Other than that, how long have you had it and have you noticed any chipping?
I'd probably fix it myself, it will save money and also won't have to be without a phone.

I only used it for ~1 week.
Unfortunately, I didn't know about the bevel and did not check. I don't have the phone anymore (it was the S3 version, I sold it and got an S4). If your eyes are better than mine, try looking at these photos:

I would say that it does not have the bevel, but the quality is not that good. I don't have the full resolution photos either.

Just thought I'd let people know. I ordered a case from no.1-tech on ebay (Hong Kong based). Only 20 GBP (including postage) and 12 calendar days later, the case arrived. And at the expense of voiding my warranty, I went ahead to swap the case myself at home. It was a lot easier than expected to do.
So far so good. Seems like a genuine part, but best of all, and much to my surprise, it is the newer beveled USB design as well. Either that or a really incredible fake. Part number matched exactly on the case I removed and it had a date stamp also.
All in all, my phone is now brand new again, with the exception of a small chip that I got on the actual plastic portion around the screen. Not much I can do about that short of getting a whole new digitizer which unfortunately only comes bundled with a screen too. Can't justify 100 GBP to fix a tiny chip on the plastic lol.

Nice work. Does the disassembly require pry tools (which I suck at) or is it all just screws?

Thanks for sharing your experience with everyone. I wonder how you even started removing the case, since it has no visible screws. I suppose there are videos out there with instructions.

Here's the ebay link:

Make sure you select the right option from the dropdown. The Europe based S4 black model is "A".

For just the case you can get by without pry tools. You need a T5 torx and a small phillips screwdriver. Once you have the 4 screws removed, apply some pressure on the inner phone assembly that is exposed at the bottom, you basicaly want to push it outwards towards the face of the phone. Obviously be careful with the pushing. It should easily give way as I found it isn't really glued into the housing. You might need a credit card or something to help you ease it out once you have made room with the pushing. I hate pry tools too and had no problem doing it this way. The one thing to be careful about is the plastic assembly at the bottom. Take a good look at how it fits in, so you don't mess it up when putting it back together.
By the way, you can buy HTC void stickers too:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/8-VOID-WA...K_Replacement_Parts_Tools&hash=item337c0261f7
If I ever do need to send it back to HTC under warranty I'm sure those would do the trick

I'm really wondering about this also how to take off the bottom cover.. also smurf I have a question for you. It seems like the top contains the WiFi prong. Are you sure the one for cellular signal is on the bottom?

It almost always is for regulatory reasons (less radiation in the dummy head) even though it makes for less signal when "you're holding it wrong". There's an anandtech review showing the antenna placement as well.

Well for me I slowly pried the gap at the bottom edge. It's got adhesive on the inside sticking it onto that plastic assembly I mentioned earlier, but just keep prying it slowly so the adhesive doesn't get all messed up. It should flip open like a door with the hinges being where the beats logo is, eventually it'll open right out then just pop it out.
Hi guys,
I got similar story and want to replace my housing.
I have the EU S4 black/red model. I think its one of those with the chipping issue, but not much damage, until the drop which cut the top corner to straight 45 degree white line and scratches my finger every time I use it in landscape mode.
Anyway wanted to ask, since you already tried/used it for some time.
Is the eBay one genuine or just a good fake?
Or is the one from parts4repair a better choice?
Also after removing the bottom plastic cover, as I understand it has glue to it to keep it in place. Do I need to replace that on the reassembly or just heating it back and pressing will work with the old one? Or it has something else to keep it in place other than the glue?
So I've got to say that every aspect of having the dock for my TF700 Infinity is absolutely outstanding. Though I have had one issue that is seeming to become worse.
The "feet" on the dock have started to come off. So far I have lost two of them, without a clue as to where they have gone. I called ASUS, and they said that if I were lucky they might have them for sale on there site, which they don't. They also said that these missing feet would not be covered under warranty if I were to even go through the hassle of sending it back to them.
So this brings the question. Does anyone know where I can either get replacement feet, or what I might be able to fabricate new feet out of? I wouldn't normally care about the feet, except that they do a wonderful job of keeping the tablet and dock from sliding around on my desk. I honestly wouldn't even mind adding a mm or two to the back feet so that they could do a better job of that while the tablet/dock are opened.
Any suggestions on a rubber type material, or other such material, that I could use to create some new feet? I'd be willing to make them for the community also if I could just find the right material. I am sure that I'm not the only one being plauged by this issue, maybe it's just bothering me more than most.

Try on ebay - I've replaced the rubber feet on one of our laptops - there was a huge choice and managed to fine ones better than the originals.
Although not sure you'll get a colour match, I'm sure the sizes will be available in a number of heights.
Try a decoration or furniture store, they usually sell rubber non-slip anti-scratch stickers for under decorative items. They work rather well under the dock, too.

Dude, i have the answer!!! ............i have found the feet that are perfect nearly 99.5% the same as the originals. I just need to find the ebay sellers name from my emails, as the auction i bought from has been archived. I will post back later tonight with the answer
If you have a friend or you yourself owns a Hot glue gun then you can just put a tiny dolop of hot glue where the feet used to be. It should stay for a long while and they are just as good as a silicone nub or foot for these products. my wife has one of these thats the only reason why it came up. Otherwise i would go to Home Depot, by me they have a huge selection of these kinds of things for furniture.

I've got one myself actually. I'm just hesitant about doing something possibly so permanent. Also, I know if I can't get it just right, flat and all... It's really going to bug the crap out of me too... Not saying it's a bad idea, it's a great one... I'm just finding that I have to weigh it against my ocd...
The hot glue gun sounds like a great idea. I'll be trying that later today on my wife's laptop.

If you can post pictures after you've gotten it done I'd love to see how it turns out.
a small dab of RTV Silicone works well too. I've been doing that on my laptops for years.
I gave up... I used hot-glue... It works perfectly! And it's easily removable if need be. The only difficult part is getting it shaped correctly.
Hot glue works. I've used Sugru on my laptop feet. Love that stuff...

Those look quite nice. I'm going to order them, and hope that they stick on over my Skinomi. If not, I'll get the exacto blade out and carve them up to the right size.
I've had to replace my superglue feet twice so far, as they keep coming off.
So today i have finally broke my phone I am currently phoneless until my replacement screen comes in so i will be going phoneless from here until atleast 4/20!! So i would like to describe what happened. Usually this phone is a tank and i can drop it 1 million times without it breaking until today happened. I was already having a really bad day i woke up late in the morning and almost missed my bus. i went to school looking like trash and then i end up going through the whole day with a really bad headache. I had to deal with a horrible mat teacher who gave me a (no joke) 66.60 for the marking period. half the class failed. So whatever i dealt with her then i went through my day until i was in my last period class. i was wearing gym shorts today so my pockets were really loose and i had my phone in my right pocket. I was sitting in a chair that was 2 feet off the ground and BAM my phone smashes into the floor. At this point I'm like "oh crap its done" so i flip it over and there was only a tiny crack in the top left hand corner so im like oh okay no biggy I can deal with that. That wasn't the worst of it. The screen powered on perfectly fine nothing looked wrong however only one half of the touch screen worked. Touching the screen anywhere under the power button wouldn't work. Running a DPI of 420 puts 2 essential things right in that exact area (dpi wont matter for the second thing) 1. My lock password is toast so i cant unlock my phone 2. even if i could unlock my phone (some cases i was able to unlock my phone but it works for 5 seconds then stops) the nav bar lives in that zone so im screwed. I just find it funny how a tiny drop can be so fatal and disable half a screen while i drop my phone daily from many different heights and thee wort it got was a scratch. I'm curious what are your drop stories?????
PS. if you don't see me participate in the threads I usually stalk its because I prefer to browse and post to XDA from XDA Labs. The website sucks.
I have repaired my phone and ordered the black dualpro or whatever its called case by insipio I ended up getting it for $25 should be here in a few days the company who ships it is very reliable
photos to follow within the week
Same thing happened to me. But replacing the screen on these is really easy, provided you get the screen/digitizer and frame assembly. Ijust did mine last week. Now i wont take off the case again. I have never cracked a screen until this phone. But up and going again.

Maybe if you just got black or something. Some of us customized them in Moto maker or skinned them. It would be useless to cover it up and I don't like the clear cases. Sure you have to be careful but you really should even with a case. The thing is accidents happen and a case isn't a guarantee that the phone won't break anyways.

@WelcomeToTheSkye Sorry to hear about your phone. And your class. I was so scared I was gonna drop my MXP until I got a case. I was expecting the rubber on the back to be grippy but mine is slippery compared to my old moto E and the metal makes it worse. If you'd like a case recommendation, I have the Diztronic case and the Incipio Octane. They're both good. The octane looks better because it lets you back material show through and it adds more grip, but the headphone port cutout isn't big enough for my ATH-M50s
The Diztronic is really really nice. It just doesn't add as much grip. The buttons are also really easy to press. It's the one I usually use.

I got a pretty nice looking carbon fibre look case off eBay for less than £5 and it's saved my phone no end of times, if you go caseless and your phone breaks you only have yourself to blame
Wallet cases are also a great way to protect your phone/screen. I looked around on Amazon for a while and the only well reviewed one was the one by a company called J&D. I purchased it in turquoise and paired it with the Pleson tempered glass screen protector and the only downside is that all tempered glass protectors for this phone come up a little on the sides due to the curved screen but otherwise this is a protective and attractive combination.

Make sure you head over to https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Moto-X-Pure-Moto-X-Style/bd-p/449 before having Moto Mobility work on it. There's some disagreement over whether it's a scam or negligence, but either way you're in for a lot of trouble.
I don't use a case either because it makes the phone too large for a pocket. Too bad Moto didn't put a rim around the glass like every other Chinese and Japanese phone has. I guess they wanted the iPhone look with a minimalist white face and a cracked screen.

Same thing happened to me I stripped 6/20 of the screws... Turns out if you rip the screen off by getting a screwdriver under it you can still the stripped screws out of the back frame. It doesn't need all 20 screws it needs the one to hold the motherboard to the screen and at least 8 to keep it in place

Everybody says this so I'm betting Leno glued the screws in. It's fixable if it's into plastic. Lift the edge of the screw head with a knife tip as you turn it. Once it's out, clean the threads. Dip a thin wire into plastic welding glue (modeling and pipe glue works) and wet the inside of the screw hole. Clear out any excess glue. Let the glue dry somewhere warm for at least an hour. The screws should fit now.
Can you post a link to the replacement you got? I bought one of the higher priced ones on ebay and have had three with screen issues. The seller just wants to refund me at this point, so I need to find one that will not have light bleed, dead pixels and an unresponsive screen. Thanks in advance!
I am not recommending anyone do this and am not responsible if you mess your phone up. but this worked For my stripped screw. Replaced my screen today. One screw stopped I drilled the head of the screw out. I used a left handed bit because you drill in reverse with these and if the bit grabs it may unscrew. May but didn't. It made me very nervous but worked. And the part of the screw that was left in didn't matter since I bought the screen with the bezzle/frame. And I had a extra screw same size. It was Philips head but worked. There is a good chance if you try to drill out your stripped screws you will completely brake your phone. But there is that small chance for success?
