Hello.
I'm dealing with this PDA that's from a friend. He told me that it's very slow (it had WM5). I update with some homemade ROMs to see what happens and the result has been really annoying:
Operations are sluggish. Even the screen aligning process is horribly sluggish. Everything is slow as hell. The screen seems to miss some taps, too.
What's the problem? Somebody with this problem?
EDIT: I have seen that the touch screen is failing! The taps are hold when the stylus is not on the screen. Could it be a failing touch screen?
Well, later to have checked and tested intensively I've come to the conclusion that this lack of responsiveness is produced due to a hardware error. The touch screen is failing and the CPU processes a large a mount of taps without actually touching it, so it's too busy to process any other task properly.
I hope this help to anyone having the same problem.
Thank
Issue with touch screen ?
Concerning your sluggish PDA, is there a plastic film to protect the screen ?
Some plastic films may cause very weird behaviours as the screen could be fooled and act as if some point on it would be touched. It's all the more true when the film is in contact with both the screen and its frame, due to bad alignment when sticking it.
I had a similar issue with a Tomtom One (1st issue) and was about to send the device back to warranty... everything was solved when removing the protective film !
It's rather obvious with first generation films that were really thicker than new ones.
Hope I was of help...
if you cant fix it and are going to get rid of it i will take it off you. mines motherboard is scrambled, but the screen is fine.
thats if your getting rid of it.
Guys & Gals,
I have had Captivate for almost 3 weeks now and I like it overall. But two things have frustrated me enough, that I am considering returning the phone. Before I do that, I want to find out from you all if you experience similar issues or have any workarounds.
1. The TOP FRUSTRATION with this phone is the four buttons on the bottom (Menu, Home, Back & Search). The "back" button is a hit or miss. I have to almost hit the back button multiple times for it to recognize the input. This is really frustrating since the "back" button is what I generally use a lot. The buttons get worse when you apply screen protectors. Without a screen protector, it is a little better but still many occasions have to hit the "back" button multiple times.
2. The phone has dropped calls for me several times for no apparent reason. At times, I press "hang up" after the call, all buttons on the screen gets greyed out but the call is still active. I can't press any keys and have to restart the phone.
I DO NOT Like Samsung TouchWIZ. I think it is a piece of crap software. If this is all due to the TouchWiz, can I just plain disable it and use default Android?
More importantly, will the sensitivity of the four capacitive buttons at the bottom get better with Froyo or has it not anything to do with it.
I have already exchanged the phone once to eliminate the possibility that I got a lemon. My friend also has the back button issue. Otherwise, I love the phone. Please help me keep the phone.
I've actually had all of the issues you're talking about, but my capacitive touch buttons would also push themselves repeatedly, which was horrible when you're trying to do something and the Back button kept going off.
I've heard that the newer firmwares actually fix this, but I haven't flashed my phone.
If you don't like Touchwiz, go to the market and download Launcher Pro or ADW Launcher. They're much better replacements and clear up a lot of the latency issues.
If you're willing to wait till the end of the month for the GPS fix and Froyo, then let it ride. Enjoy the phone for what it is and wait for the gooey goodness of Froyo.
If you're a bit more impatient, then you're probably going to have to return it for something else. Samsung isn't known for their support in the handset market, but maybe they'll remedy that here with having a real potential winner on their hands.
Is there a specific firmware that will increase the sensitivity of the back button?
I would only return the phone if you plan on getting a replacement and seeing if that improves the buttons responses. Test it out in the store alot to make sure it suffices for you
I would get odin and flash your phone to the jh3 firmware then apply the sre rom to it.
I have messed with my phone a lot have not had those issues but its real stable on that combination. Or you can flash back to full stock with the odin on click downloader that is in the development forums and see if that fixes your issues. If you are rooted then do a titanium backup of apps and data that way you can re root and load that back on with all your apps.
Why do u have a screen protector? This supposedly has gorilla glass and does not scratch easy. I've had mine since launch and have yet to scratch it so maybe its true. There is a Rom in the dev section that has touchwhiz removed. It's pretty sweet.
If your having issues with the buttons then u might need to exchange it

Don't buy into this Gorilla Glass pipe dream. The technology is already showing it's true colors. The iPhone 4 is the most prone to scratching of any of the iPhone models, both front and back are Gorilla Glass. My and many others Captivate scratched in my pocket by itself in the first week.
Just use google and search "iphone 4 screen scratch" and "captivate screen scratch".
Get a screen protector or regret it later. Gorilla Glass is supposed to have a high tensile strength. That will keep it from shattering, not scratching. On that front... It's no different than regular glass.
Thank you all.
Can anyone confirm that the touch button sensitivity is software controlled? That will give me hope that some day we will be able to increase the sensitivity of the four buttons at the bottom of the phone.
I would love to keep this phone if the "back" button can be made more sensitive to touch.

1. I've never had a problem with the Back button, i'm not sure why you're having so many problems. It is quite responsive, maybe system lag is why you're having this problem of unresponsiveness? If this is the case then maybe you need to root the device and apply the lagfix. Touchwiz is very sucky and bogs the phone down and can very possibly be the culprit here.
2. This may very possibly be network related. AT&T sucks in my area and the phone averages 2 bars indoors for me. Outdoors is another story. As to the keypad greying out, i've never had that occur.
3. I agree on the touchwiz thing. It's not necessary and slows the phone down badly. It is something that's in dire need to be removed. I've attempted eugene's Vibrant/Captivate Rom, which is coming along nicely. However, it's not to the point where I want to keep it. It fixes quite a few problems with lag as it removes almost all of touchwiz. You have to be comfortable with messing around with modding the phone to accomplish this, as well as rooting it.
If you can manage to keep the phone and possibly try to mod it or perhaps wait for Froyo, which might address some of these issues you'd be well to do so. The Captivate is an excellent device all around.
bump. I have this very same problem plus. no 3 button combo to go into recovery plus I run ubuntu on my computer. Can anyone confirm if this is solved with a custom rom/kernel? I really like the captivate in stock, I think I will like it better with a custom ROM so if anyone knows of any rom or fix for this please let me know. there doesn't seem to be too much info on the forum on this. Thanks

Cognition is really nice, it's got a stock feel with crap taken out and good stuff put in.
You can just google 3 button combo, there are multiple methods. MobileTech Videos has a video guide on how to do it, but I can't give the link out due to an issue with promoting sales of a jig.
Yes actually I found a post with a Fix for the 3 button combo. But the capacitive button sensitivity is still low, specially the back button is a hit and miss. and the phisical layout doesn't help either. My girlfriend has a vibrant and the capacitive buttons are supersensitive. Is this a hardware problem?

Have you flashed Cognition or another ROM? There's no way to tell if it's an actual problem with the handset or just some funky software screwup on your stock ROM until you do that.
I know that mine sometimes "skips" when on stock 2.1(for all the 10 seconds it's on there), but that's due to lag because it's such a ****ty ROM. Once I have a custom one flashed it's fine.
Anyone else notice that when trying to draw/write near the edge of the screen, that detection becomes slow and somewhat unpredictable, and weirdly-shaped letters and such? Also, anyone notice that the digitzer has sensitivity issues sometimes, ie. trailing tail on letters? I like my Note 10.1 just fine, but I'm wondering if anyone else has these quirks or if I should exchange mine for another.

Thread resurrection! I have the same issues. I took a ruler and made a diagonal line near the edge of the screen and the line drawn was not straight. It dipped around 1 to 2 mm near the edge of the screen. I also get tails on my writing when finished with a stroke. I noticed it's due to the fact that you're still moving the pen while lifting away, but the nib is still touching the screen (because of its natural up / down movement).
I sometimes get tails as well, but that's something you can filter out in certain apps (Lecture Notes allows for it, but I kind of like the tails because it makes my writing look like when I'm using one of those really inky pens).
But yes, I really hate it when I get close to the edge of the screen near the camera. It displaces my point by maybe 1 mm, but I've learned to just not draw near the edges. I mean, do I wish that it was perfect? Yeah.. but the way it is now, still works very well. Sigh.
Hello! I've had my galaxy s6 for 2 months now, and I'm faily happy with it (mainly due to the great camera). However, my galaxy s6 have a few quality issues. First and foremost my home button is loose, which makes the impression of quality far less than if it had been stiff and firm as some other galaxy s6's I've tried. However I've seen quite a few people suffer with this, so is it any great chances of getting one without it?
Secondly, my IR blaster has a bad cutout in the aluminium.
Thirdly, my screen somethimes gets to an extreme brightness which makes the black levels go zero to none.
So is it worth go to the store and get an replacement or get them to try and fix it?
I'd get it changed if the button is loose never mind the other stuff
Yes, I'll probably have a talk with them. Anybody else who have thoughts about this? Is your home button firm?

Mines sturdy, you've not got a clone have you because one of the things which give those away is the loose button
I'm using "note 10 pro".
Nice device.
However, there is a "sensitivity problem" on the curved screen edges.
There are problems with the letters on the left and right sides of the keyboard.
Need to touch hard. Need to apply pressure.
There may be a software error.
Or they willingly reduced sensitivity.
How do I solve?
The edge of my screen where it starts to curve is not sensitive enough. The "1" and "0" and "a" and "p" keyboard keys are very difficult to press. I end up having to turn the phone side-ways so the screen flips making the keyboard position entirely on the flat part and not hitting the curved edge. This is very very frustrating to the point where I'm changing all passwords to not use any of those keys. Doesn't help much but a little. The phone got such great reviews but I find it very difficult to use because of the lack of sensitivity on the edges.
I don't have this issues with my 10pro. Maybe it's a broken device.
Gesendet von meinem Redmi Note 4 mit Tapatalk
Examine more carefully.
Touch the keyboard keys 10 times again in a row.
Tap hard. then soft tap.
You will notice.
Have absolutely no touch issue on my device. Zero. And I am very sensitive about things like that. I even use a UV Glue glass for it that I bought off ebay. (was bit messy to apply but I was prepared after using Whitestone glasses elsewhere.)
Aaanyhow. My device has superb sensitivity even with glass. IMO you have a faulty device.
I have also tried on different devices. they deliberately reduced the touch sensitivity on the rounded edges.
Please see in detail.
understand what I want to say.
I don't have a problem either.
I've tried it on 4 different devices.
sample:
Samsung has increased the sensitivity on the curved screen.
But it has developed a setting program for users.
xioami decreased sensitivity.

Really don't know mate. Never had any touch issues out of the box with the stock firmware.
Nor had any touch issues on my OnePlus 7 Pro. Nor on my GF's Note 9. Nor on her Note 10 Plus. Nor on my mother's S7 Edge.
I don't know. Maybe you have huge hands?
Ps.: I get it that YOU have a problem. All I am trying to say is ... the phone itself works perfectly. Without any touch issues. It's either you, or your device.

my hands are not big
try touching the edges lightly and gently.
then tap the middle keys lightly.
You will notice.

Hi, I don't know about the Mi Note 10 yet, but I definitely had a similar issue with the Galaxy S7 back in the day. It used to drive me crazy, because it happened while holding it with one hand in the car, and typing the number "1" for example was often hit or miss (I am right handed, normal hands). It's part of why I don't like curved screens and why I never bought another Samsung phone (I know Samsung mostly fixed the issue through updates).
I just ordered the Mi Note 10 despite of the curved screen, because of the camera. I didn't want to buy a phone from Hauwei and didn't want to wait for Samsung's S20, and the Mi Note 10 is at a killer price
Anyway, I hope I don't run into the same curve issue (worried).

I have no such issues.... The curve screen is more like edge.
And I am using Gboard as my keyboard and all the keys are working fine.
there is problem. make a very delicate soft touch.
Just touch the edge. tap very slowly.
also tap the middle of the screen.
there is a serious difference.

I am noticing a sensitivity issue with "p"/"0" on the upper right.
It doesn't register a light touch, it needs to be pressed deliberately and slower.
It's part of the reason I don't love curved edges.

Same. Oh well, maybe SOME phones don't work that well?
Honestly I'd prefer NO curve, but I can't find an issue with it.
I hate MIUI way more that I can't make it allow my bloody notifications in DND. It's like the worst nightmare ever.
I have mi & galaxy s9+, both phone have same issue.
Samsung have a official app to fix this issue, but Mi not.
At first I try use 3rd App the disable edge touch,, but not useful like Samsung.
Now I just use a new case. The case just let my plam not possible touch on curve edge.
I recorded a sample video. We can add some programs with Turbo Game setting. We increase sensitivity. But it is not enough. We cannot select every program. Even if it is selected, it is not enough. The problem continues on the edges.
It seems to prove that this problem is a software problem.
There should be a "disable screen sensitivity limitation" button in settings

There are problems with letters on the left and right side of the keyboard.
It is necessary to touch hard. It is necessary to apply pressure.
There may be a software error or willfully reduced the sensitivity.
does not want the edges to be very sensitive xiaomi. And they took a stupid measure with the software.
xda developers can solve this problem.
Then xioami takes precautions.
The problems at the lower corners are caused by the gesture control. Turn off the gesture control and use the conventional buttons, then the problem is solved.
This is also the reason why some have the problem and some don't. Not everyone uses the gesture control.
i have also noticed a reduced sensitivity with the gesture control. As soon as you switch to the buttons everything is fine with the touch screen test.
I use the buttons.
There is problem. Use as you wish There is a problem with the edges and bottom corners.
The only method: an update.
Install the program I sent. try it too.
the center and edges of the screen and the bottom corners are different.
This problem bothers me on the keyboard.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.rallwell.siriuth.touchscreentest&hl=tr
I can reproduce the interrupted line test.
In the test i can place white dots on every part of the edge, but it gets only interrupted when drawing a line.
But it doesn't bother me when keyboard typing.
Keyboard works well even in the edges.
Do you use swipe typing, i'm not?
I'm using Fullscreen Gestures and never noticed any problems with edge sensitivity.
My device is Global Firmware (11.0.7), not Global EEA.
