First post, I have searched but didn't find anything on this in the forum. So I received my Fuze yesterday via mail from AT&T and I have been playing with it and it is a great device. I have noticed that on my Fuze the hard buttons on the bottom seem to move around on the right hand side as if they were loosely connected. I have made a youtube video to show this movement and I am wondering if this is normal for the Fuze/Touch Pro or if mine may be defective. Thanks for any help in advance and I will certainly be using this forum for lots, good community you have here.

16 views and noone can verify if their Fuze also has loose keys on the bottom? I thought this one would surely get a quick response since it is so simple.
I just want to know if I should not worry about it or if I should consider sending it back before I start to get into flashing ROMs and whatnot. It very well could be that this is just the way it was designed but I have no idea.
Mine also does it. Never payed attention until you pointed it out. Not too worried about it though.
I'm also not too worried about it myself but just wondering if that is something standard with the device or if only some of them do it? Thanks for the response.
This is certainly faulty. My TP keys move a little bit, but not that much. I am sure yours is buggy. But... I think it is not getting worse because the movement is limited by the frame
My TyTNII/TIlt did the same thing and HTC said this was normal. I just hope they don't decide to make a car, the wheels would fall off any they would tell you it was normal.
I did end up sending a message to HTC to see what they had to say. I'll inform if i get a response.
I've had 4 units, all of them did it but one, and that one had a pad piece that was such a tight fit that it rubbed on the bottom of the screen when you pressed the home or back button. They all seem to be slightly different sizes.
When you buy HTC, don't examine too closely or you'll always be disappointed.

Same here.. made the worced noise. Really disconcerting, eventually it seems to have filed it's self to the exact fit
Not loose

My HTC Fuze (AT&T) does not have loose key on the bottom.
my Fuze is rock solid. It is a perfect fit, sturdy, and held in place.
Looks like your touchpad has a broken screw hole or missing a screw entirely. I definatly wouldn't be satisified with that.
I have checked 2 and both had the loose button panel
HTC responded with:
Thank you for sending your email inquiry about your device.
I understand you have an HTC Fuze with AT&T service and your device may have loose buttons on the right side. I know that this situation can be frustrating when your device buttons do not perform the way you expect. If you suspect the buttons are loose, you should contact AT&T about this issue. They maybe able to exchange or replace the device for you.
Robert, I hope we have answered your question in detail. Feel free to contact us again if you have any further questions.

So I went to the AT&T Store to talk to one of them and to check the phone there and that display phone had the loose buttons. I am going to try to check the rest of the stores. I am going to hang onto mine as it really isnt an issue and I still have the warranty if something goes wrong. Still I would like to get this poll filled out as it is now an interesting thing to me.
I bought mine on 1/27 and it is loose on the right side too
I went through three Fuzes for various different problems. The one I have now has an uneven lower button area...the left side facing up is higher than the right which causes a sharp corner. I was just happy it wasnt worse. If you compare the build quality to the sprint's touch pro there is no comparison, the sprint version is solid, every one I've handled has felt well built and had no problems like this.
Mine does exactly the same, had it for a week, but only noticed it yesterday. Probably not quite as bad as the video tho....
My Kaiser also does it but i'm not worried out that as the button pad is 'encapsulated' by the cover and doesn't any where near like the TP. The other thing I'm not too keen on is the hard qwerty keyboard doesn't feel as robust as my kaiser one either.
This is must disconcerting as I look after my phones really well.....

Guys & Gals,
I have had Captivate for almost 3 weeks now and I like it overall. But two things have frustrated me enough, that I am considering returning the phone. Before I do that, I want to find out from you all if you experience similar issues or have any workarounds.
1. The TOP FRUSTRATION with this phone is the four buttons on the bottom (Menu, Home, Back & Search). The "back" button is a hit or miss. I have to almost hit the back button multiple times for it to recognize the input. This is really frustrating since the "back" button is what I generally use a lot. The buttons get worse when you apply screen protectors. Without a screen protector, it is a little better but still many occasions have to hit the "back" button multiple times.
2. The phone has dropped calls for me several times for no apparent reason. At times, I press "hang up" after the call, all buttons on the screen gets greyed out but the call is still active. I can't press any keys and have to restart the phone.
I DO NOT Like Samsung TouchWIZ. I think it is a piece of crap software. If this is all due to the TouchWiz, can I just plain disable it and use default Android?
More importantly, will the sensitivity of the four capacitive buttons at the bottom get better with Froyo or has it not anything to do with it.
I have already exchanged the phone once to eliminate the possibility that I got a lemon. My friend also has the back button issue. Otherwise, I love the phone. Please help me keep the phone.
I've actually had all of the issues you're talking about, but my capacitive touch buttons would also push themselves repeatedly, which was horrible when you're trying to do something and the Back button kept going off.
I've heard that the newer firmwares actually fix this, but I haven't flashed my phone.
If you don't like Touchwiz, go to the market and download Launcher Pro or ADW Launcher. They're much better replacements and clear up a lot of the latency issues.
If you're willing to wait till the end of the month for the GPS fix and Froyo, then let it ride. Enjoy the phone for what it is and wait for the gooey goodness of Froyo.
If you're a bit more impatient, then you're probably going to have to return it for something else. Samsung isn't known for their support in the handset market, but maybe they'll remedy that here with having a real potential winner on their hands.
Is there a specific firmware that will increase the sensitivity of the back button?
I would only return the phone if you plan on getting a replacement and seeing if that improves the buttons responses. Test it out in the store alot to make sure it suffices for you
I would get odin and flash your phone to the jh3 firmware then apply the sre rom to it.
I have messed with my phone a lot have not had those issues but its real stable on that combination. Or you can flash back to full stock with the odin on click downloader that is in the development forums and see if that fixes your issues. If you are rooted then do a titanium backup of apps and data that way you can re root and load that back on with all your apps.
Why do u have a screen protector? This supposedly has gorilla glass and does not scratch easy. I've had mine since launch and have yet to scratch it so maybe its true. There is a Rom in the dev section that has touchwhiz removed. It's pretty sweet.
If your having issues with the buttons then u might need to exchange it

Don't buy into this Gorilla Glass pipe dream. The technology is already showing it's true colors. The iPhone 4 is the most prone to scratching of any of the iPhone models, both front and back are Gorilla Glass. My and many others Captivate scratched in my pocket by itself in the first week.
Just use google and search "iphone 4 screen scratch" and "captivate screen scratch".
Get a screen protector or regret it later. Gorilla Glass is supposed to have a high tensile strength. That will keep it from shattering, not scratching. On that front... It's no different than regular glass.
Thank you all.
Can anyone confirm that the touch button sensitivity is software controlled? That will give me hope that some day we will be able to increase the sensitivity of the four buttons at the bottom of the phone.
I would love to keep this phone if the "back" button can be made more sensitive to touch.

1. I've never had a problem with the Back button, i'm not sure why you're having so many problems. It is quite responsive, maybe system lag is why you're having this problem of unresponsiveness? If this is the case then maybe you need to root the device and apply the lagfix. Touchwiz is very sucky and bogs the phone down and can very possibly be the culprit here.
2. This may very possibly be network related. AT&T sucks in my area and the phone averages 2 bars indoors for me. Outdoors is another story. As to the keypad greying out, i've never had that occur.
3. I agree on the touchwiz thing. It's not necessary and slows the phone down badly. It is something that's in dire need to be removed. I've attempted eugene's Vibrant/Captivate Rom, which is coming along nicely. However, it's not to the point where I want to keep it. It fixes quite a few problems with lag as it removes almost all of touchwiz. You have to be comfortable with messing around with modding the phone to accomplish this, as well as rooting it.
If you can manage to keep the phone and possibly try to mod it or perhaps wait for Froyo, which might address some of these issues you'd be well to do so. The Captivate is an excellent device all around.
bump. I have this very same problem plus. no 3 button combo to go into recovery plus I run ubuntu on my computer. Can anyone confirm if this is solved with a custom rom/kernel? I really like the captivate in stock, I think I will like it better with a custom ROM so if anyone knows of any rom or fix for this please let me know. there doesn't seem to be too much info on the forum on this. Thanks

Cognition is really nice, it's got a stock feel with crap taken out and good stuff put in.
You can just google 3 button combo, there are multiple methods. MobileTech Videos has a video guide on how to do it, but I can't give the link out due to an issue with promoting sales of a jig.
Yes actually I found a post with a Fix for the 3 button combo. But the capacitive button sensitivity is still low, specially the back button is a hit and miss. and the phisical layout doesn't help either. My girlfriend has a vibrant and the capacitive buttons are supersensitive. Is this a hardware problem?

Have you flashed Cognition or another ROM? There's no way to tell if it's an actual problem with the handset or just some funky software screwup on your stock ROM until you do that.
I know that mine sometimes "skips" when on stock 2.1(for all the 10 seconds it's on there), but that's due to lag because it's such a ****ty ROM. Once I have a custom one flashed it's fine.
So tomorrow is finally the day I get to upgrade my phone, my fascinate has treated me well these past two years, but its a bit dated now. So I've been following the forums and threads on the S III but I didn't see much people saying anything about specific hardware issues with the phone. When I go tomorrow to purchase my phone, is there any hardware specific stuff to look at to make sure my phone doesn't suffer from quality issues or run tests apps like display tester to test out the phone so I don't come out with a lemon and have to come back to exchange it? Any suggestions on making sure I don't get an lemon is much appreciated.
I wouldn't worry about it. Mine has been rock solid, even after a trip into the pool.
Enjoy your new phone. I'm sure you'll love it.

As someone who had a launch fascinate, and upgraded to an s3 in July, let me add my opinion.
Gps. Though still not bulletproof and instantly locking like my wife's iphone 4s, it is way better than the stock fassy and even cm builds
Rom. Stock Rom is way less bloated and tw is way better with a smaller footprint.
Quality. About the same. I miss the 4 capacitive buttons actually. Still find myself hitting the android options key when trying to get to the launcher
I still have my fascinate in case this breaks and needs to be swapped. I do not miss it at all though. I could never find a perfect Rom for it. Something was always broke or buggy. I love my s3. Was going to sell it to get an iphone 5, but I am going to keep it now.

Glad to have someone who has experience with the fascinate and gs3. I was concerned with the gps since the gps on the fascinate was pretty wonky. I guess the gs3 isn't much different in build quality with the thin plastic battery cover.
I previously owned a Fascinate as well, it was a great phone but outdated.
I was first worrying about the size being (alittle) too big, after few days it seems to be perfect size.
I do not like the physical home button and the external speakers location. The battery cover is a thin flexible plastic cover, atleast it will not shatter if dropped on hard surfaces.
And the most important of all, it is not an iphone. Unless you have a lemon or defected phone, you will love it.

Yeah, I was worried about the size until I tried out a floor model and to me, felt fine, different from the 4 inches of course but nothing like the galaxy note. I think one major difference is what you mentioned, the physical home button, coming from 4 capacitive buttons to just 3 buttons with one of them a physical one, is pretty different.
A lot of us come from the fascinate. Me too. I find this phone has built nicely on the original fascinate. Adding things that needed along with the general hardware upgrade. Or now thinking on it, Samsung or Qualcomm should have given us a quad core but such as life.

Yeah such is life, but having the dual core hold up to that quad core is nice.
On another note, didn't get my galaxy s3 today. So I have unlimited data on my plan and went though hell to try to find a way to keep the unlimited data and get the phone at the discount price. I might of done it, but won't know until verizon sends me my phone in the mail. Will know in a couple days.
It's a great choice ! You will be glad you took the upgrade ! I even enjoy the phone out of the box . This phone is going to be limitless .

Let me be one of the first to say Welcome to the VZW GS3 Family! I may be on GS3 #3, but I think I finally got a keeper. The phone kicks my bionic's a** left and right, and I feel the GS3 is the best phone on the market atm.
As for me being on GS3 #3, I wouldent worry about build quality. First one had the screen gap issue (was back when the GS3 had 1 forum for all carriers), second one had dead pixels, but this current one is a keeper!
I am also new to the verizon fam. Came from sprint and am so happy with this gs3. So much to do that sometimes dont know what to do on the phone. What cool tricks do u suggest. I habeny been on this site in years.
To update everyone, I got my phone today and was able to activate it and keep unlimited! The sweet sweet smell of a new phone with unlimited 4G.

Did you specifically request to keep your unlimited? I am just curious because I preordered mine and was able to keep it. I am not sure if they are still allowing anyone who has unlimited to transition to the S3 with unlimited or only people who specifically request it... anyone have more information??
The phone is fantastic. I've had no issues with it. Welcome to the family!
I love my GS3. It's a great phone and build quality is pretty good. But I did have a few things though most of them are minor. Do check them out within your return window:
1. My 1st GS3 had GPS issue. Took forever to lock and wouldn't stay locked. Got an exchange for that and the 2nd one is way better, still not perfect but totally usable.
2. My 1st GS3 came with a tiny scratch on the screen. I found it after using the phone for < 2hours. At first I thought I scratched it. Then after keeping the phone in the same pocket (completely naked) for 3 weeks, and then having the 2nd one for a month, no scratch whatsoever. Now I'm pretty sure my 1st one came with the scratch. It's a very tiny scratch can only be seen from certain angle. But it annoyed the hell out of me.
3. Both the 1st and 2nd GS3's back cover have a squeaky spot. The 1st one right behind the volume rocker, the 2nd one behind the home button. Not the worst problem but can get annoying.
I saw other people report screen problem (dead pixel) so running a screen test is probably not a bad idea.

I did a cross upgrade, I was able to transfer my upgrade to a different phone and then have that line upgrade to the s3. When it came, I just esn swap (transferred the phone to my line). Note this only works with ordering from the website. At the store and anywhere else they will force you to switch. Trust me, I banged heads with a lot of people over this.

It feels solid to me. Its a thin cover but its all packed together in that slim body pretty tightly so it doesn't feel cheap (at least not to me). You can't tell its a thin plastic back unless you remove it as it doesn't move or give at all when it is on the phone. I think the fascinate felt worse
The GPS is no problem at all on the S3 but I never had issues with it on my fascinate either although I know a lot of people did.
Hey all
I for one will be waiting for this over the Note 4 (when it finally arrives in the UK) The curved screen technology really appeals, the slightly reduced battery capacity really does not bother me that much, for me its a small price for such an intriguing new feature. As the rest of the specs are pretty much identical to the Note 4, its down to who feels this new design is worthy of the wait.
Who's in? and how do other members feel about the extra screen real estate?:good:

I think I'm in your camp too. The only thing is, I have read some obscure articles claiming that this might not actually come to market for some time due to production issues and the curved glass. My contract renews in November, so hopefully we'll hear some more news before then.

My contact is up in October, but will move over to a SIM only contract until available. I can live with my faithful note 3 a little longer:highfive:
Lets hope the rumors are untrue, first time in a while I've been truly excited about an upgrade. :good:
Yep waiting on this one.... The note 4 is too close to my note 3 to be interested in it.
Waiting ... :highfive:
:good:
I'm on Verizon, living in the Greater Manchester Metroplex (actually, a little rural town but it sounds good). The odds of our corporate store having the Edge - even ONE - are dismal. So I'm going to have to order it online at 12:00:01 AM the day of release... or pre-order, whichever comes first.
I'm really hoping I can get the Edge, although one part of me is hesitant: the MODDER part of me.
How much development will there be for the Edge? Will there be sufficient quantities of stock to satisfy the demand on AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon? Or will each U.S. carrier have maybe 50 of these things? Will developers even bother with it? Or will there be enough of a supply that developers will embrace it, root it, bootstrap it and create custom ROMs?
That is my question...
I'm waiting on this as well. At first, when I saw the details on the Note 4 when Samsung had their introduction, I was relieved because I knew I would save money since there was really nothing(in my opinion) worth upgrading from a Note 3 for.
But once I saw the info on the Note Edge, I was excited because I knew that I wanted to get it(and slightly disappointed because I thought I would be saving money on a phone upgrade this year.).
From what I've seen on the net, the Note 4 should launch in the United States sometime in October. Hopefully this means the Note Edge will launch in November.
The thing I really like about the Edge is that it will be very useful in multitasking since the access to app shortcuts will be on the Edge display. This will really increase productivity in my opnion. Even with the smaller sized battery, it should be fine since we can use the Edge display to check on notifications, etc. without waking the main screen.
I am still on my good 'ol Note 2. I wanted to original upgrade to the Note 4 until I saw the Note edge. Just wish they would give out some info
I have a GFlex now and impatiently waiting for the Edge!!!!
If the Note Edge is <$1000, I will definitely get it regardless of custom Roms, support, or reduced battery issue, simply because I want to do my part as to motivate Samsung in trying something new to smartphone world. Samsung took pioneer steps that no one else has taken for the good of the whole, instead of most company out there who only goes after their profit.
Only 1 question I still have regarding the Edge, and this is after watching all videos, articles of it. If we can turn on the curve screen for notification and such without turn on the main screen, then how do we plan to do so? I mean, should I press the power button? or a home button? Or whatever button? Wouldn't pressing those physical buttons turn on the main screen as well? Please someone tell me...

Hmmmm, wouldn't it burning battery, like Swipe-to-Wake? Since it's always detecting gesture, kinda defeat the "saving juice by not turning on main screen" idea.

The g3 has a similar kernel that stays awake at all times, and it doesn't really impact battery life

It cosume same battery as led watch.....
The swipe detection is fully baked by company....not by thirdparty which drain battery...so not to worry about much battery draining

Yea I think that the edge would be a swipe like the note 3.
if i reach for my phone the screen lights up and tells me the time and miss calls, email etc...
so I can seen samsung making a setting for picking which screen to be active for swipe.
also I believe the power button would be map for the full screen on. And they will probably have swipe over just for the side screen. It means sense to me but let's see of they do it.
I'm thinking of getting the Note 4 when it drops since the Edge doesn't look like it'll be for sale until early next year. I'm on T-Mobile so technically I could "JUMP" after 6 months (April). Whatever phone I get, strong development support is a huge factor.

Hey all
I for one will be waiting for this over the Note 4 (when it finally arrives in the UK) The curved screen technology really appeals, the slightly reduced battery capacity really does not bother me that much, for me its a small price for such an intriguing new feature. As the rest of the specs are pretty much identical to the Note 4, its down to who feels this new design is worthy of the wait.
Who's in? and how do other members feel about the extra screen real estate?:good:

I was at the UK Samsung Experience. store at Stratford and was told the Edge is not coming to the UK as an official device release.
i'm waiting for Edge. I think if Australia release is 5th Nov, US would be before that. All carriers still have this as "coming soon". I wish Samsung was as aggressive as Apple in marketing and releases.
Just heard this will be a very limited release. Not for the UK or US.
Does anyone else have loose home button on their phone? It makes noises when you lightly tap on it and doesn't sound too good. I've also went to the T-Mobile store today and noticed my home button is more flush than the both display models they had. Anyone else face the same issue?

If it feels off go in and have them pull out a brand new one. When there in store. If yours feels off, have it replaced! I do this with any new phone. I tediously inspect it. If I think something feels off I have them show me a new one and compare. That way I can show them right then and there, this is why you're going to give me another phone lol

I have a feeling my front glass is slightly misaligned. Will be checking the store model to make sure, as the corner by the back button seems a bit sunken in. The frame definitely comes up over the glass a little.
I was just in the Samsung Experience Store and noticed that of the four regular S6s they had, three had loose homebuttons. The Edges seemed fine though.
My t mobile version is a bit loose as well. It feels like a minor issue but it is pretty annoying....
I picked up my S6 this morning and have noticed that a light tap on the home button makes a noise. It's annoying and it makes an otherwise solid feeling, quality phone feel cheap. I guess I'll try taking it back to see if I can get another one that doesn't have this issue.
The frame is suppose to slightly overlap the screen by the way
I actually returned my T mobile version for another, and the other has the exact same loose button
Well i noticed it after you guys wrote about it here. I have a S6 32Gig White, a friend has a S6 64gig Black version, i checked his S6 and he doesn't have this issue.
But honestly, it is not like i tap on the button all the time, you can only hear it if you slightly tap on it. If you fully press it, you don't even hear it. It is also not like it makes any sounds when moving the phone, therefore i am not going through all the pain to get this replaced just to receive another one with a loose button

Yeah, if I didn't have this Edge without the issue it might not bother me so much
I went back to the T-Mo store and their display model had it. One of the guys opened another one up for me and it too was affected. I ended up walking out with the phone I had. Not gonna make them open a bunch of boxes until they find one that doesn't. At this point the ratio makes it seem like the loose button is normal and any that aren't are the odd ones. Ah well.

That's unfortunate. Perhaps I'll keep mine for a while and deal with it then swap? Wait on a different production run or something.
Mine is nice and tight, but already scratched up. I mean my fingers are rough but jeez. Some soft material on there.
mine seems pretty solid, sorry to hear you should defintely bring it back

Ugh, again though?
I guess...
Well i was wrong about it not bothering me It started annoying me after you guys wrote about it...
I went to a T-Mobile store to check if the devices had the same problem, and yes 2 of them had, 1 did not...
Dunno if it is worth to send it back now and wait up to 6 days to receive a replacement that has probably the same issue -.-
P.s. After pressing the button down very hard a few times, the right side stopped making noises, the mid now also seems to be fine, it can only be heared if touching the very left side of the button...
Same issue here. The left side of the home button rattles a little bit when i press lightly on it. Should i exchange or is it normal?
