Cyanogenmod for S6 in development? - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Looks like CM team is working hard on making CM AOSP rom for our phone
Over the past few months, device maintainers new and old have been pushing hard to get support up to par for a wide range of devices. While some flagships (M9/S6/G4, etc) still need more time in the proverbial oven, we’ve seen a large increase in the medium range devices.

I would interpret that post almost exactly opposite how you did.

The S5 didn't get official nightlies until April this year. Don't expect to see it for the S6 so soon.

I would only get excited when I see zeroflte commits merged in to CM. Maybe next year

It won't happen. If it does it will be far from stable.

Still no CM for note 4 exynos

[EXYNOS7] [7420] Sources and Cyanogenmod builds

It's been a month plus and there isn't any signs of cyanogenmod development going on? what the big deal? No sources? or are there sources and devs can't figure out the complications? like it happened with the exynos 4 platform. I had a Galaxy S3 and there was reasonable support from the devs. Looks like the devs are just frustrated with the Exynos source.

I'm waiting for this myself.. hope they release soon because in all phones I had CM was running.
Didn't even care. I have sd801 on my klte return to stock rom after join cm bugwagon since it out till tw lp comes out. My n9505, and previous phone also got the same fate. Yeah, yesteryear is the last cm I used. My 920f is the first phone that I didn't even root. This is my opinion. Ignore it if hurt you. ?

I haven't been paying attention for a while, but last I knew, exynos sources are closed, as they are proprietary to Samsung. This is why there was a bunch of discussion prior to release of the device that CM would likely be very late to the party, if it shows up at all, because there would be a lot of reverse engineering required. This was also expected to make CM run comparatively poorly vs. Stock based ROMs.
Not sure if anything has changed in this regard in the last 6 weeks..

Exynos is a very "proprietory" platform, the sources are most likely not made available and if they are , its not maintained like Qualcomm does. My point being, sooner or later by december this year samsung will out hints for the next flagship, and thus our updates will be killed. My s3 never got a taste of kitkat or lollipop officially. The sooner the source is available, the better it is. Devs can start working on it.

Even if it is proprietary they do release source. They did release code for Exynos 5. ( galaxy alpha is getting some cm treatment). The s3 had so many roms, yes the reverse engineering Codeworkx, Andrew and gokhanmoral had to do was messed up but amazing.

Thanks for this info. I've been very much out of the Samsung scene for a couple years - last Sammy device I had was an SGS2. Good to know there is hope for decent CM support. It's cool to see some of the same awesome devs in this community that i remember from the S2.

The kind of effort andrew and codeworkx put to fix the emmc bug in s2 is amazing.. Hope something like that doesn't show up on the s6..

Community development strength

You're a power user. Can the OnePlus 2 keep up? Rate this thread to express how "healthy" the development scene is for the OnePlus 2. A higher rating indicates available root methods, kernels, and custom ROMs.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
I think the oneplus2 wont get the development as opo got. Most of the developers are selling their phones(eg. ak). Its really sad as I bought this phone expecting a healthy development community. And the worst part is , I have to use this phone for at least 2 years now
I miss OPO dev community
No official CM, no OxygenOS sources...
I'm quite disappointed to be honest. Coming from a Nexus 5 i was expecting to have Marshmallow by now.. No custom roms really that are worth installing. Also saw on oneplus forums that ~30 developers were going to develop for this phone. Where are they...

Same here, coming from a Nexus 4 :/
Coming from a Nexus 4 I'm somewhat disappointed as well but it's not that bad, CM is really stable and faster than Oxygen, maybe things will get better after official Marshmallow update
Its just a shame. The community they have over with the OPO is great. But here not so much. Hopefully they'll release the source code for the laser and fingerprint scanner. I'm not that hopeful though. I have my nexus 5 for 2 years. The longest I've kept a phone for and that was because of the development community
I just want to see MultiROM and Ubuntu for smartphones on OPT, but until now my OPT is fully stock..
I wouldn't even care if I stayed with stock as long as i had marsallow and the updates were fast. Oxygen is almost completely stock..
I still dont understand why they havent release the source code for this phone...
Oxygen, although is good, is lack a kicking ass power that can be brought by other custom rom and kernel... ::sigh
I really expect this development community will be as big as OPO... C'monn oneplus, be more reasonable, and dont overrate ypurself too much. You are just a little company without community support. Its the community that make OPO one of the best phone ever after all
I'd like to see what other people think about this. I can't really make or break a device
What are you guys saying? The community development is healthy. OnePlus did say they will release the source code for the finger print scanner when marshmallow is released. Releasing it right now for the Lollipop version would only be short lived since marshmallow will come out
This is such a pointless thread. The reason development is almost non-existent is due to the drivers for the fingerprint sensor and laser auto focus not being made publicly available. Once those are available with the Marshmallow update, then the development for this phone will take off. Its a matter of patience.
Development is going good. To justify the absence of the fingerprint scanner and laser autofocus codes as lack of development is inaccurate lol
ONeplus did say that the reason the codes for the fingerprint scanner were not released because the device is about to get the Marshmallow update. THey will begin to release it upon update. Patience my comrades
ak is selling his OPT? Whaaaaat?
I really wanted Oneplus 2 to be the Nexus killer.. but it seems that will never be true.

OP2 will never be a nexus killer. Its not a 2016 Flagship killer as they marketed it, hell its not even a 2015 flagship killer. But Its a one hell of a device. Great looks, good performance, its a decent little package. Only thing that's missing now is the community support. I know it still sucks that there isn't a CM13 rom yet. I have high hopes that this is gonna change with the official Android M update. The complete source will be available soon. Since the OP2 is available now without invite I guess more devs will get their hands on the device.
Stay positive guys. Cheers.

i do agree with you both to some extent BUT i do think that OnePlus really dropped the ball. people don't want to wait 6-8 months for custom roms and in the time it takes OnePlus to release its code and for development to pick up, a lot of new devices came or will come to market (Moto X, Nexus etc..). the reason the OPO was so great is that it had good hardware and development was strong so it gave you options. the OPT also has great hardware but a lot of people myself included find Oxygen OS to be sub par and without any other option (i don't consider flashing a different rom and losing critical features a viable option), the phone becomes a lot less attractive.
considering the fact that OnePlus said that M will be coming in Q1 (i think that we can safetly assume end of march), waiting another 4 months seems a bit too much.

When, Why?

Hello
For over one year we have the S6 . We still expect that developers lay us an AOSP ROM. CyanogenMod but we dodge ! And AOKP ? It's over?
Have you any news? Thank you in advance!
I think I'll leave Galaxy for Nexus !
Why bother for a cm full of bugs..just use a tw rom debloated and with a custom launcher.
S6 wont get any stable cm even in a few years. So just move on
just change title mate, it's against the rules do something like this.
no opensource = no cyano. it's like trying to build a rom without codes.

Any device utilizing a Exyenos CPU is always a no-go for CM and never-ever good for any bug-free modding. Always & forever. I believe any rom Dev would tell you this.
Samsung's hardware imo is superior to Nexus, say what you will, but Samsung knows how to produce a quality handset. Too bad about the mod-ability! But hey, as you pointed out, there's always Nexus
The exynos chipset is always difficult to get a cyanogen build for, mainly cos Samsung never release sources which makes development very hard.

Except for the Nexus 10 which has an Exynos aswell.
Officially it has 5.1.1 but unofficial cm13, maybe Android N in the future.

I never argued Exyenos can't/won't run/didn't have decent builds of CM; simply said it's a no-go meaning the end-user experience is inferior to devices that run it well e.g. devices with Qualcomm's CPU's.
Devices with Qualcomm/Snapdragon CPU's are usually the ones to go for. Look at the thread and compare rom's/cm of i9500 vs i9505 - BIG difference! :highfive:

Worth the Bootloader Unlock? Yes! New Project coming... (GOSP)

Hey Folks,
I had no Samsung Device for ages but i got a brand new Galaxy S9+ in Gold for a nice Price and couldn't resist anymore. Now is the Question, is the Exynos Variant worth the Bootloader Unlock? I'm a Friend of AOSP / GSI Development and would like to contribute for My Device some Work. But how good is the Treble Support? Are GSIs working fine? Any Bugs or Features that i would miss compared to the locked stock OS? The ONE UI seems to be pretty nice and i'm very happy with My S9+ how it is. But i would also like a OS without all the Samsung Stuff and some Optimizations on top. All Opinions are Welcome!
Edit:
So i just decided to unlock My S9+ Duos and i'm already working on a Stock OS Project (Sadly since AOSP isn't that good rn). Anyways, the Samsung OS is pretty good. I will debloat it hardly and add Google Apps besides some heavy background optimizations on the System. That will be something new for Samsung Users... Stay tuned!
Edit2:
Project will be called GOSP (Galaxy Open Source Patch). Aiming on Debloating Samsungs Firmwares besides adding Google Apps, new Features and optimized System Configurations for better Performance, Quality and Battery Lifetimes. It will be open on GitHub for contributions and everyone is welcome to work with Me on a unified Stock ROM Project for all Galaxy S9 and S10 Variants (Also the coming Ones and Note 9/10 Devices).
The First Time that i haven't unlocked my Bootloader right after getting My Device. If no One explains Me the Pro and Cons am i keeping it locked. I don"t trust This Samsung Pseudo Security Stuff aka Knox and Counters... IT's like i said For Years. Samsung is just the better Apple. Can't wait to Hear News about Tizen lol
Not a lot is happening on the AOSP side of things, just a los 16 project that seems to be stable enough for daily use. There are a few very nice stock based roms like soldiers or ambasadii. Go and have a look on the cross development forums. For me personally there are pros, I like my device bloatfree and my kernel modified for my usage. But the cons are that there is not a big community (strange for a newer Samsung device.......), not much treble sGSI support at all, and a very small chance of getting a large number of different AOSP roms in the near future. Hope I helped

I'm wondering how @phhusson is working with Treble since he made various patches on his AOSP GSI Development. Do we use Stock Vendors with the GSIs? Hows the Pie Status? Many GSIs are out there who get many Updates over the Time including Phhussons Changes on the AOSP Base so i would push My Efforts in this Direction...
I've read that Hardware composing isn't working and that the Iris Scan isn't implented in AOSP. Is there anything besides that left? It looked to me that Phhusson fixed most of the Issues so far!? I'm really about to unlock My Baby... (Still hate Exynos lol)

I dont know how he is working, but sGSIs for out device are crap, and that is a good way to say it. There is no thread for the new LOS 16, but the HWC bug is solved in the new builds. Yeah the issues are fixed but the stability, battery life and other things are bad for my taste

I'm really sad that i can't get a Snapdragon Samsung Device in Germany but i Think ill unlock the Bootloader, make a Backup and try out some Things. Stock seems to be Very Good actually. Maybe do i something in that Direction Again. But also possible that i work on Treble... I just need a Day or Two to decide that.
Shouldn't hurt to start a new Project for such unbeloved Device. The Overall Hardware i Superb. But i never worked with Exynos. That will be a intersting Trip...
Alright, i will do a Stock Project aiming on Debloating the Samsung Stuff out of Stock Devices and optimizing of the overall System Quality. Or how i call it: "Patching".
Required will be a Stock Samsung OS or ROM and My Patch does the Rest. Included will be also new and hidden Features and a Google like Expierence with essential System Apps from Google. Think i will use My last AROMA Utility for it which includes AROMA File Manager and other Goodies...
Can't wait to see what i can unleash on Samsung Devices..
One UI is really far away from AOSP. Hard to implent Pixel Features and such... Not even Well Beeing from Google will be shown in the Samsung Settings.
Think i will give Linage OS from the first of this Month a Shot and See how it Runs...
Thank you for your involvement!
If you want to contribute to s9+ exynos community, you could also port the gcam from pixel. There are some ports, but they are bad, and discontinued.

NO HOPE FOR S6/S6 EDGE GETTING ANDROID 12?

Alright....It's been about 3 months since I last posted a thread discussing about the Galaxy S6 / Galaxy S6 Edge getting the Android 12 ROM's built for them.
Here's the thread if you were wondering: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/request-android-12-for-s6-s6-edge.4446843/
So far, I have seen no progress with the development of any A12 ROM's being made for the device but it only gets worse, The XDA community of this device itself seems to be pretty dead and inactive at the moment. None of the developer's seems to be intrested in making any ROM'S for the device itself anymore.
Channel48 had previously attempted to raise a crowdfunding just so that the device could get an A12 ROM made for it, but no one really seemed to be intrested in donating and yet, it failed....
I honestly have no hope left now. There is no news about this device getting any ROM's developed for it anymore.
Is this where it all ends? Does this mark the end of the development lifecycle of the legendary Galaxy S6 series???
Interest for a port even back then was very low. Not many people are active on these forums anymore.
Me, fwiep and joshuadoes were the only ones to produce recent-ish builds. I did some minor adjustments in my pixel experience ROM and joshua might have done some stuff in his lineage 17 roms. Other than that, there have been no advancements.
I was working on A12 builds, but I had hardware issues, so i couldnt really continue. Joshua is working on a more indepth port of A12, but he is busy with some other stuff iirc, so that project wont be done for a while.
Your only hope is to ask someone who did the A12 builds for the older devices to kindly attempt a port for the S6. But that is it for the time being. I will continue doing small changes to my ROMs but thats it most likely. From now android updates are gonna be harder to do for old phones.
It's not like Android 11 is horribly outdated. Your phone isnt a brick yet, keep using it!
