Tested in Heavy rain - Moto G 2015 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

::If this topic is off topic please change it to desired location ::
Today i had to test my MOTO G in rain
i kept my phone out while i was driving long way for 1 and a half hour
Observations :
1) after 40 mins in the rain; the volume got lowered, when i played a song i didnt hear it loud
2) my microphone and earpiece also didnt work..
3) Water went allover inside through my back-panel but didn't touch the SIM,and MicroSD card slot..
These are the only problems which i faced today
NOTE: no screen gaurd, no extra covers .. just a default Moto g in action
after 3 hours of Drying it and cleaning it with dry cloth now its perfectly allright , i love my MOTO G

I love you brave water testers. I don't have the balls or desire to put my phone through that, but it's nice to know it can put up with it.

What do you mean you kept your phone out while driving?

Quite a stunt you pulled. Commendable!!. But think this as if your Moto G 3 has just come out from ICCU. So be careful...

i was going on bike, it was heavily raining by the time i started..
i told my friend who is sitting back of me to catch the MOTO G as an umbrella :silly: facing FRONT and BACK the whole 1 and a half hour..
Then water was making touches, so i had to stop looking at HERE MAPS, and keep it locked for so much time, but unlocking to know the location where i was sometimes , those water droplets on the screen used to be like Drops .. and drift away due to rapid air

I would assume very minor water damage would be covered under warranty since it's made to be water-resistant.

Touch Pro Combusted!!

I've had my Touch Pro from Verizon since February but then in the last week or so, my phone would randomly get hot to the touch until the battery is pulled. So today I set my phone in the kitchen on the charger and then went to the front room to play some Call of Duty on the Xbox. After an hour or so, I noticed that the house was a little smoky so I got up and went to check outside to see if a fire was happening because I had all the windows open but to my surprise, no fires outside. After I stepped back into my house, I noticed the haze was still there but there was also a weird stench in the house as well. Right when I walked into the kitchen, there it was, in a flamming pile of plastic and silicon melted into my kitchen countertop. So I non chalantley walked over, unplugged the charger and took my cup of 7up and doused the fire out. After that, called Verizon customer care up and after 30 minutes of what I might assumed to be eyebrow raises throughtout the call center, they agree to give me a new TP on the house. The only resistance I had was that they wanted me to bring in a chunk of the phone for inspections but the phone was so melted into the counter that I would have to pop the counter off and bring it into the retail store, not happening!!! Moral of the story, dont piss off the phone by not giving it proper graphics acceleration drivers when there is a dedicated chip onboard.
Wow!!!
It´s unveliebable!!
My condolences for your device or what´s left of
WOW!
Did you notice anything unusual before the combustion happened (Like the device getting exceptionally hot, etc)?

Hd2 Screams when dropped (IDEA)

So, may be this is dumb, i thought of it last nite though..
You know that feeling, you just pulled you phone out of your pocket a tick too fast, or tred to do somethihg else at the same time, and it slips... those moments between your device leaving your hand, and it meeting the ground are lasting for hours... and theres nothing you can do.
but maybe this will make it a little better (probably) so that if you drop your phone, or you g sensor detects 0-g, (zero gravity , as would be by free falling) that it would activate an app that has a voice and it would scream in terror.
it sounded better last nite after a couple drinks.. a couple more dirnk it its gonna start sounding better again.
but i thought it would be fun... keeping it running in the background, overrides any system sounds and would play on the speaker loudly. ...
but , just an idea.
would be cool to see in action though.
thanks for listening!

i would test it if someone would write it, but i don't wanna mess up my system, because i'm not exactly an expert in ROM flashing (Ive never done it before) and things like this, so if something goes wrong, i am gonna need help to fix it.
of course i wouldnt drop my phone on the street, but onto a bed or something for testing/playing with it.

exactly, someone would have to dumb to actually test it on the ground...
but i think on a bed/pillow should be no problem. and if it is, then i own the wrong phone.
How about gurgling when dropped down the toilet?
If i dropped my HD2 i would be the one screaming, not the phone...

if anyone develops that, i'm up for testing it!
LOL
Sooo.... many people would actually run an app, for ever, eating memory and CPU cycles, as well as keeping the phone permanently out of standby (needed to continuously sample the sensor) thus reducing battery life to about 15hrs max without touching it, just so that in the event they dropped their phone one day in the couple of years they'll have it it would scream during half a second before hitting the ground and breaking?
I wonder where the world is going...
Nice idea, but
Honestly, I wouldn't mind developing that one. Sounded easy at first too. But think, the accelerometer meaures 2 axis ( if i'm not mistaken ). How could you tell the device is on a free fall? When it falls, it usually spins, so, tecnically as far as the sensors are concerned it's not on a free fall, as the sensor reads some values, that are consistent with some one handling the device. So, the risk in developing an app like this is having an app that gets the phone to scream whenever it's moved, or never scream at all (not even when falling!)
But please, do prove me wrong ^^. Cause regarding accelerometers i've only worked with the iPhone SDK (Yeah, i kno, but it's job related).

All axes = 0 (or close to it).
Opps, my bad about the number of axis.
But still, all axis at 0? seriously doubt that, since the device usually doesnt fall on a perfectly vertical trajectory. It usually spins around...
At least, when on the G Sensor calibration tool i can see the meters moving around when i throw my device up in the air :S

well, then one could maybe develop the program to read erratic behavoir, when all the sensors are spinning, (?) because to do that my mistake isn't easy i imagine, and it would maybe also activate when bouncing around in a bag(purse, briefcase, who knows what...) in any case, it would scream when in situations that aren't healthy for the phone. (running to catch the train and its bouncing in your backsack for example)...
we now have a purpose to this app... (other than scaring the **** out of you twice ((your phone is about to break, and its screaming!)) HA!
It will probably spin around, but normally not so much as to create close to 1g. It obviously depends on the position of the accelerometer in the device, and I don't know where it is in the HD2. But supposing it's in the most defavorable position (at the edge, 6cm from CG) simulating gravity would mean the phone would have to spin 2 revolutions per second. With greatly reduced effect if it's actually closer to the CG.

[Q] Transformer Getting HOT

I am so fed up with this tab. Almost drop kicked it today. I put in the microsd for my evo 3d in the tab to listen to music. Came back roughly 10 min later and picked it up by the right side and dropped it onto the bed. It was SOO hot it left blisters on my palm! So I got the micro out and surprisingly it wasn't melted in HOWEVER all data on it was gone. So I put in a different micro and within 10 seconds it was too hot to touch. Then I went and bought a new microsd and same thing. How do I get them to cross ship me one? Can I just get my money back from them? Bought it from a guy on ebay and it was doa so I sent it in and it came back with a replacement screen with a 1x2mm black speck between the screen and glass (have separate thread about that) I am ready to get a different tab. Suggestions? when this comes back from rma it is going on ebay
Or you could RMA it again.
If you do sell it on eBay I hope you disclose these issues. It would be dishonest to unload this on another unsuspecting person and make it their issues.

Hmm ... It is likely that the unit you purchased was in fact defective.
But what's the batch number on it?
Thats very awkward.. first time I hear the microsd burning.
Was it being charged at the same time?
Could be a defect on charger or the 40 pin port?
Very bizarre... I always have my 4GB Micro-SD plugged in. When I play music or anything off it, it never gets hot at all. RMA it, and hopefully it will get fixed.
Hmmm, I should check this since I've yet to really use the microsd slot past the initial check..
Only gets kind of warm when I watch videos. Never gets warm at all when I listen to music. Never tried listening to music stored on microad but I don't think it'll be any different.
Sent from my Transformer TF101
blisters...huh....i've touched a red hot cpu and never even got blisters. Must have been glowing red.
Yeah, I've never gotten blisters either. Hmm. My transformer gets hot when I do something like stream movies or whatnot, but hot like warmer, not hot like scalding.
I have a my micro sd card int here listen music off it on a daily basis. never has it gotten hot.
never had a heat issue, only gets the usual warmth from charging thats normal with all devices
Sounds like a defect TF Could you test what kind of temp you are getting with SetCPU? I have a micro card and all my music is all it and I listen to it every day, and never had a heat issue.
I only feel heat or warmth when I'm transfering files or charging. Sometimes when I have been playing a game for an hour or 2 straight. But it's just warm, not blistering hot. Matter of fact, wouldn't the plastic backing of the TF melt before that?
Could it be that the cpu has a faulty heatsink/no thermal gel? or maybe it wasn't ventilating properly? Did you have it on a thick blanket or anything similar?
I still can't warp my head around "getting blisters" from it. I had a panini maker smash my hand when I was 5. It wasn't able to pull it off for probably 20 seconds, and no blisters. It would have to be extremely hot, and the device would've shut it self off. Oh and the SD card falling out? Probably didn't push it in enough. I use the screwdriver haed on my pocket knife to push it in and out. (Probably not the smartest idea, but I have clumsy fingers.
I think I transfer more heat from my hands than the device to me.
In another word, it doesn't get hot at all. My laptop on the other hand...
Ok its a batch 4 I believe. It is blistered I can post pics if that gets it solved quicker. The plastic doesn't appear to be melted but it smells like it is on that side. and I would sell it only after it comes back from rma. I have perfect feedback and would like it to stay perfect plus I'm not a dishonest person.
Same
Just experienced the same thing with my microsd in. I've had it in for atleast 2 months now and never expeirenced it before. All I did was having it inside the sd slot. Not charging/gaming or anything.
Once I pulled out the sd card it got cooled down. Didnt get scalded or anything, but i guess it could have gotten that hot if I didnt pull out the sd card.

[GUIDE][TAKE APART] Fix the annoying/bad vibration

Many Moto G owners have gotten a device with a poor quality vibration motor. If your phone make an annoying rattle sound every time the vibration goes on, you're in the right place. I found an easy way to get rid of that rattle sound and restore a nice, fluid, vibration and a better tactile feedback, as should be.
I'm not responsible of your device, doing this you're taking your own risk and responsibility.
1) You will need:
• A T4 Torx screwdriver
• Some lubricant (specific for precision instruments, not olive oil ;P)
• A plastic pry tool
• A little needle
• Some patience
Image 1
2) First of all turn off the phone, remove the back cover and the SIM card.
Image 2
3) Start to remove all screws.
Image 3
4) Open the device using the plastic tool, or something like that (also fingernails).
Image 4
5) Let's see where is located the vibration motor.
Image 5
6) If you want to remove the battery, this is the right way, but it's not compulsory for our purpose.
Image 6
7) Hey, it's a nice board for a 150 dollars phone!
Image 7
8) Put a drop of lubricant on the needle, DON'T use the bottle directly on the motor.
Image 8
9) Put the small drop of oil on the pivot of the motor (sorry for the pic quality).
Image 9
10) Reassemble the phone and remember to put the buttons in the right direction.
Image 10
11) Check if everything is ok. YAY!
Image 11
I must have had 30-40 Moto Gs in the past 9 months and neither of them had problems with the vibromotor. Dunno how you caused it to go dry or dirty, but it certainly doesn't happen often.
Anyway though, good that you posted a guide with photos if anyone should ever need it.
Still have the same issue with my phone's vibration motor. It doesn't work from time to time and I think I'll open the device myself and check the motor instead of sendinf it to service.
Didn't check my phone yet, but is there any seal you break, when you open the phone?

No seals there, but the torx screws are enough of a security measure and easy to determine if they were unscrewed.

Put a piece of toilet paper o something like that between the screwdriver and the screw, in this way you don't ruin your screws and nobody will notice that you opened your phone...
Yea, I'm sure it's happening if ppl report it, but it's not very common issue overall.
To me a bigger problem is the earpiece, which under normal circumstances won't fail easy, but in latter revisions, it seems that it can go defective after just a few sight drops of the phone.
Nice guide!
I'm having problems with vibrato, maybe I'll try this thread.
Many thanks for your work for the community!

Had the exact same issue with mine. Either the vibration motor is a bit dusty, or just broken. If you didn't root it yet, I'd recommend you send it to the service.

Stylo a bit slow?

When I first got the G Stylo it was by far the fastest phone I've ever had and it still is, but I had to get a replacement phone a couple times because the GPS on the previous phones were straight up trash. Finally I get my hands on one with a perfect GPS... and now I notice that it slows down a tinyyyy bit during the day. The phone still works great but I did notice that in a couple RAM booster apps that I downloaded (I've been trying out different RAM boosters, not all at once) and they all say that there is a total of 1.86 GB of RAM, not the full 2 GB of RAM that Metro said there was. Could this be an issue?
Also my phone is not Rooted. It's stock with Android 5.1.1. with Software Version MS63110J
Also do you think the Stylo will get the Android M update?
Ahhhhhh..... Another person seeing some one offs here.
So my deal is I upgraded VIA T-Mobile's 611. They sent me my Stylo in a day. Here is what I observed with the first phone(yes the first phone)
1. is was 5.1.1 out of the box
2. screen VERY bright!
3. sound was extremely loud, I mean hear it in the next room door closed loud
4. colors very bright and vibrant(didn't know this till I got my second phone)
5. GPS locks in seconds!!! EVERYTIME!!!!! even in downtown Houston!!
6. phone would stutter/skip even on the home screen with just a few icons.
7. battery life was 10% down with GPS on for 1 hour 10 min.
Now the reason for the second phone two sundays ago(there is a reason I am pointing towards a day) I was using the phone on and off before 10am. Right after 10am I went to check an email and the screen was doing this crazy strobing thing. It was not blanking off but seemed like the edges of the phone about half an inch in would strobe from the backlight. It was super strong for about 20min and slowly faded out. I called T-Mobile and they sent me a new phone out under buyers remorse.
a week later when I get the new phone here is the deal
1. is was 5.0.1 out of the box
2. screen bright but not as bright as the first!
3. sound is loud, but cannot hear it in the next room loud like the first one
4. colors ... here is the first big one! The colors are not the same, this phones screen seems sharper but the colors are lighter, a little more washed out and very noticeable.
5. GPS SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! takes 5 min to lock and then looses it's lock every few min and nothing at all downtown!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT THE ****!!!!
6. phone hardly skips a beat when scrolling on the home screen, even when packing on more icons.
7. battery life was 10% down with GPS on for 1 hour 10 min.(same no real dif but did notice maps was higher in battery usage than the screen(same brightness level)
Now while I was waiting for the replacement phone I noticed something odd with the original. At 10am this last sunday the screen did the same exact thing again! It was fine till I turned it on again just after 10am...... I have no idea why it did that, no it's not an app because when it happened the first time exactly one week early to nearly the min I reset the phone hoping it was an app.... since I expected my replacement phone to arrive last tuesday I never restored the original so none of my extra apps were on the phone all week.
So here is the deal why the huge difference in phones???
Any fix for the GPs so I don't have to burn through phones like the first guys here, and with that Hades.... did you see such a difference with the phones?

could be the OS version did you update the other one? and there was talk about LG making this device cheaper by using third party screens and possibly a third party GPS antenna (which would explain the GPS problem if the update doesn't fix it)

Any fix for the GPs so I don't have to burn through phones like the first guys here, and with that Hades.... did you see such a difference with the phones?

Well I burned through like 3 phones. This last phone.. its good. It slows down after a couple days without a restart but I guess that is understandable. The screen has always been consistently bright, this last phone though the colors do seem a bit washed out, but the gps locks faster than I can say "GPS." The volume is loud, and I'm hoping the color wash out is just my eyes messing with me. It's nothing horrible... but I'm very touchy about screens and their performance. One thing that does seem to get me though... The front facing camera is supposed to be 5mp and the first phone I had took AMAZING selfies. This one seems just... meh... So I might go back in and get that checked out at Metro.... but I don't want to risk getting a replacement phone that has a worse GPS...
Any thoughts on the Anroid 6.0 though?
I am going to resurrect this thread.
Ok T-Mobile let me keep the original phone for a bit and here is what I have found.
both phones on the j software
the original has mostly green for GPS(using GPS test) the replacement never hits green on any sat
The original screen has crisper colors
The original does seem to bog down a little every now and then
The replacements touch screen is touchy and causes me to type erratically
The original doesn't creek
And the original has a much louder speaker
So I am thinking I will be sending the replacement back and keeping the original and hope for the best with that crazy screen flicker thing every Sunday at 10AM. and no it's not an app as the original has been setting for a couple weeks now without me logged in and the only app sideloaded being GPS Test.
It is clear that at this point trying to get a replacement for the replacement might yield the same GPS issues. If the screen on the original dies I'll just order a replacement but I have never had a phone with this great of a GPS as the original and I mean it is good. I'll do up some screenshots of the two side by side and post em up. Just crazy how different they are.
If I were u I would root it and install turbo's ROM. My battery lasts all day now and the internet and browsing is super fast. This is the best thing for this phone
Can I run turbo's ROM on my LG LGH635 (Stylus) ?
mine is like that
1. its 5.0.2 after 1 and only update
2. screen is bright
3. sound is loud
4. screen seems sharp but the colors are light, a little washed out
5. GPS does not suck but with a GPS Status & Toolbox it keeps phone up and good
6. phone hardly skips a beat when scrolling on the home screen, even when packing on more icons but its loosing all of the background apps quickly when running something bigger like a game or browser
7. battery life is fine while playing Ingress

i believe his rom is only intended for the metro/tmobile lg g stylo...but why not pop into his thread and ask him?
When I was having slowness, it was because my free space was low. Free up some internal storage space. Also disable/remove the My TMobile app.
Ok so happy days are here!!!
Talked to T-Mobile and they were being cool they were willing to send me out another phone, but I asked if I could just return both and clear my account and they said yes. With that I went to Wally and snagged up the last one on the shelf because of a hint in another forum. Seems that one guy on here is correct, TM and LG are now putting cheaper screens, antennas and memory in these things. But the hint was that Wally's shipments and warehouse stock are the original patches and yep I got lucky and got one!!! GPS locks in less than 5 sec and never looses me and I have even seen it hang around 9 feet!!! The screen is bright and crisp and the colors are like the first one I got and are nice and vibrant! The speaker is even louder! I can hear pandora clearly 60 feet away.... might be too loud lol.
Also the phone is faster and is running nice and smooth.
So I am now happy and I mean happy lol
Buuuuuuut, When looking at the memory on this one compared to the other two there is 5.6gig of System Data.... I looked around and someone found dialer codes for the G3/4 to clear out a log cache but I have yet to find it for this phone. Again the original two only have system data of around 300megs. Doesn't matter to much since I snagged up a 128Gb MSD and threw in it, but not everything can go on the MSD.
Might try that Turbo rom but I have a few work apps that look for root so I'll have to wort that out first, I need them.

There are exposed modules that hide root from apps.

Nope that's not it, it was just setting there doing nothing and cool when I picked it up and double tapped and there it was. The phone was cool to the touch and it has never done it when it is hot.
