So I bought an S6 that has OC3 on it and I want to root it and install clean rom on it.
Is this guide safe to follow?

And then just install flashfire like a normal app and flash?

Sounds like a good price.
Use pingpong v6. Once rooted, install Flashfire and install rom of choice following the ops instructions. If going to OE2, set Flashfire to boot to download mode afterwards instead of reboot. You likely will not be actually in download mode but at least you will not have rebooted (if there is no writing in the upper left hand corner, you are not in download mode). Boot into maintenance mode by holding the volume down, home, and power buttons at the same time. Hold them for about a count of ten. When the screen goes black, let go of all buttons. Once in maintenance mode, toggle down and power off your phone. Go to download mode with the same key sequence you used to get to maintenance mode. Odin the OE2 firmware from misterxtc's thread and you are done.

Lots of misinformation out there. I would always use the info from the xda thread for your phone.
Should I go to OE2 or just leave it on OC3?
If i do not go to OE2, all I need to do is use PingPng and then install flash fire correct? Any real benefits of OE2?

Are you going to install a rom? More on OE2. Other than that OC3 is fine. You can go up and down between those two. Just don't go to any other firmware.
So to update to OE2 I need to root first on OC3 . then flash oe2 firmware ?
Just want to make sure
Then root using ping-pong again and install flash fire

OE2 is root able also. I would be careful how you update to make sure you don't skip OE2.
Yea that is what I was worried about. I don't want to take ota update as it might skip it. How would you recommend doing it? I would like to use the latest clean rom so I think I need OE2

First root, then use trailblazer101's FLASH_ME tar to update to OE2. It will stay rooted without skipping to a build number that can't have root. After installing that, use flash fire to install your favorite custom rom

I know the title may sound odd, but let me explain. I rooted my phone a while back and have flashed plenty of ROM's. I think that there is something wrong and would basically like to take it back to the starting point....that point you get right after you have rooted it for the first time. What would be the best way? I ask because I do not want to return it to stock as in this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1867253)
Do I act as if I have never rooted it and run it through the ODIN process?
If so, what method as lately I have seen more than one.
Thanks all.
Whats the difference between the time after you first rooted your phone vs it being rooted now? Idk maybe use supersu built in options for restoring root?
There isn't any way to do it for now only computers can do that.
Odin flash a rooted VRBLK3 image from mrRobinson thread in the dev section. Use the /sdcard wipe tar. You'll then need to unlock the bootloader if you intend to flash kernels or roms again.

This is a great guide but is written for rooting a phone for the first time. What Slim was suggesting was to install a pre-rooted image onto your phone after cleaning it properly. If you want to do it this was since it is familiar to you, I would return to stock using the guide in the stickies and then using the guide that you referenced to root and unlock. Make sure that you back everything up including the IMEI. Good luck!
OK..so I go and do this first: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1984436&highlight=mrrobinson
Then go do the root in the link I posted: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2046439

Sound right?

All you need is download the "full wipe" version from here http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=9390214368362234355 then:
First, use Titanium to backup all your apps.
1. Remove your micro sdcard (it will wipe your card if you don't remove)
2. Boot into download mode (volume down + home + power buttons)
3. Use Odin to flash that image and remember only select PDA.
Once you boot up you will have a like factory setp with root. Do your normal setup then use Titanium to restore all your apps. That's it.

After I hijacked this thread I decided maybe creating my own was probably a better way to go. And maybe it will be easier for someone to find the same answer in the future. But it never hurts to have multiple opinions so thanks for your reply! I feel much more confident now that I wont brick another phone.
So I have a friend whose phone I rooted a while back. He's still on the stock ROM and has no plans to change. What do I have to do to get him the 4.3 upgrade when (or if lol) it comes out without locking his phone up? I'm assuming I'll have to remove root. Anyway to do that without using ODIN?
Thanks!

If he's still on the stock rom, he'll receive an OTA notification on his phone. So long as he hasn't removed any system apps or installed any systemUI mods then it will update just fine even with a custom recovery installed.
He removed a couple of system apps but is on the stock ROM with no UI changes.
he has time to worry about it later. nothing is going to happen on friday.
does he have a nand of the stock system? if so tell him to restore it before updating to be safe
Yeah that's what I thought but better safe than sorry. No NAND of stock as far as I know.
OK there is thread out there just has rooted stock ROMs you can flash in recovery without a data wipe. I can't seem to find the thread for some reason but I have the file. If you wait till tomorrow I can upload it and share it. Or maybe u can find the thread. Or if all he removed was Verizon apps he could try a flashable zip to restore VZW apps.

No bootloader is fine but that file needs to flashed in Odin. If you want use mobile Odin. Its what use and it's easier IMO. just make sure which ever version of Odin you use that you have plenty if charge ( over 70%)

OK. Because you do NOT want to get that term mixed up and you do not want to flash a flushable zip using odim. Very bad idea. Odin uses tar files which sometimes comes zipped up (not flashable via recovery)

Hey guys, I've read a lot on updating after being rooted, but just need to confirm before I do mess up anything.
All I have done is Rooted Stock (I have TWRP on the phone), and have flashed volume mod, and also battery percent mod. (Other then that I am running Nova Launcher, Titanium Backup)
Guessing I need to flash the back to stock for volume and battery percent (Correct if I am wrong).
And then how exactly do I go about updating to 4.4.2 and preferably retaining root?
Sorry I know noob question, just making sure as I've always unrooted, and never had any mods when I have done updates in the past.
1) you have to flash back to stock system image since you modded your phone
2) once you either get the OTA or sideload it, you just flash cwm/twrp in fastboot and then flash the supersu.zip
thats all
so in other words go back and unroot completely, go completely back to stock, and redo everything from the beginning?
Just flash the 4.4.2 stock rooted rom in the dev section

I guess I need a tutorial on what you guys are talking about because I still am not understanding..
Would flashing the rooted 4.4.2 work? And if so what do I need to do before I flash this?
How exactly do I go about only flashing only the boot.img and system.img?
Will I loose anything through this process?

One safe way to get the OTA, taking into account that you modded your phone, is:
i) flash system.img then flash stock recovery,
ii) once the OTA update is on your phone and you have accepted it (it installed itself) you are back to stock.
iii)flash your custom recovery and re-install your SuperSu to get back your root.
Good luck
So I have unlocked my bootloader now. I have not installed any custom recovery and rooted...just yet. I want to be sure that I can still get the OTA and as I have understand I will have to still use the stock recovery and unfreeze app and disable Xposed. The first part is the hard part.
So this is what I want to do: Flash TWRP>Flash root zip>Flash stock Recovery
Anyone know where I can find the stock recovery for 4.4.4 for the Pergerine model?
Another question: Let's say I install TWRP now and then when Lollipop is realesed, could I just flash the stock rom via TWRP?
I mean I will not be able to update OTA but I have to do it manually, would that work?
If it does then I would just stick with a custom recovery instead.
Anyone? I really want to root this phone but I want to make sure that I can revert to stock so I can upgrade to Lollipop.
My advice is to wait some time, I'm sure there will be all sorts of guides for getting the OTA even if rooted and such..

Glad I decided not to take the OTA update, even though I'm sure there will be a fix for the loss of root.

I was able to root OD3 using the most recent CF autoroot for the S5. It will flash OA6 recovery though. Hopefully it will be updated to include the OD3 recovery, or I'll just wait until the OD3 tar is up on sammobile.com to grab the OD3 recovery from there.

I did the same thing. Apparently there's no going back from OD3. If you're worried about root, just use the latest CF Auto Root for this phone. It works on OD3. Then just wait for the full ROM to be posted on Sammobile if you want to do flash that later. I'm rooted on OD3 and haven't had any issues at all.
