Telstra Xperia Z3 not working with iiNet Data - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My friend received an Xperia Z3 from Telstra as part of his plan and I got an iPhone 6 as part of my iiNet one. I hated the iPhone 6 and he hated the Xperia, so we swapped after looking up online that they are both unlocked out of the box. Everything seems fine except that my mobile data doesn't work, in the upper left corner it shows iiNet (the right carrier) but I cannot seem to get my mobile data to work. Is this a problem with the unit itself or with the fact that we swapped phones?

You'll need to configure your APN settings since Telstra phones only come with their settings.
Visit iiNet's website for their APN settings then head to Settings -> Mobile Network -> APN and add them there. Save then enable.

Their website doesn't actually have it as far as I can tell, have sourced it for you here.

Thanks for your fast reply. I have entered the internet and mms an settings as two separate entries into my apn settings and restarted my device but if I turn off WiFi and mobile data on, chrome still tells me I am offline if I try to load a website. Do you know what I might be doing wrong? Thanks for helping a technology newb like me out, I really appreciate it

Hmm that's weird. Had the same problem on Reddit where a Canadian couldn't get their M7 to work with iiNet mobile data but their calls and texts were fine. Are you absolutely sure that the internet one is selected in Mobile Data settings?

Yeah it is... For the apn type for the inter net one, do I type "default or internet"? Or just one of them?

I got it to work in the end but thanks for all your help
For anyone interested in how I did it, continue to read:
Firstly I went to Settings > More under Wireless and Networks > Internet Settings (note you need WiFi to do this) and then selected Optus because iiNet runs under Optus and then the APN settings were changed automatically and mobile data now works
Sent from my D6653 using XDA Free mobile app

Ahh yes, the Optus APN, slipped my mind.
FYI for anyone else, the Optus APN works with all MVNO's using the Optus network (Virgin Mobile, iiNet, Exetel etc.).
Glad it's all sorted out.

[Q] at&t HOX internet not working with TELCEL

Hi everyone, i have just recived my at&t HOX (im on the border of mexico with the US).
I taught that configurating the internet services of my provider Telcel would be kinda easy, it turns out that it isn't or im doing something wrong.
As soon as i insert the micro sim from telcel there appeared a logo of 4G at the top of the phone, but when i tried to go online it said i didnt had any connection.
So i tried to set a new VPN network (dont know if im doing it rigth, i saw it on the web) as following:
name: Mexico: Telcel: Internet
type (default) : PPTP
Server address: internet: itelcel.com
selected by default: PPP encryption (MPPE)
and when i selected it gives me the next dialoge that i filled like this:
username: webgprs
password: webgprs2002
And i also tried diferent vpn names and they cannot conect, i dont know what im doing wrong.
Try finding the correct APN then make sure you enter all the right info for that provider and remember to save it.

Is there something else i need to know? i also tried with diferent internet configurations in the *#*#4636#*#* menu but i still get the 4g simbol but no internet at all :S
You need to set the proper APN for the carrier you use that's it
System settings > mobile network > access point names > menu > new apn > add the right info for the carrier and then just remember to hit save

You need to have the correct apn before you mess with all the other settings you mentioned. If you have the correct apn then I have no idea what the issue is.

never mind, i went to technical support of telcel and they sorted it out... thanks anyway guys.
What was the issue? Maybe you could help someone with the same issue in the future.

[Q] trouble finding apn menu

I have 2 N5's, but under settings>more>mobile networks I dont have Access Point Names. All i've got is Data enabled/Data roaming/ Network mode/ system select/ and carrier settings. So now I would like to put my AT&T sim in and actually use LTE, but no APN menu. These are Sprint N5's not that that should change anything. Thx for any help.

I wish, just Update PRL, and Update Profile. so far I have not been able to find it anywhere
Now on my Samsung Galaxy Note LTE, it's easy to find lol.
by the way, just to help someone help me, I'm on kit kat build version: KRT16M. Baseband M8974a-1.0.25.0.17; Kernel: 3.4.0-g9eb14ba
On my Nexus 5, it's located under "Settings", then right under Data usage there is a "More..." tab.
That takes you to a new screen and under "Mobile networks" is the APN.
I'm on Telus, if that makes any difference.

I also think you have to have a sim card in place for the "APN" to be visible or active.

Yep, that's right where I'm used to seeing it. I'm guessing that Sprint has "hacked" the 4.4 OS and hidden the APN menu or something. I went into the store today and asked where it was and they didn't know (no shock there), but when they tried to update my tower settings they did a *#*#72786#*#* to reset the phone, and then did the *#*#8232#*#* and did some stuff that they wouldn't allow me to see.....
Anyone have an idea if the T-mobile N5's have been "molested"? IE APN menus and such are where they should be?
ok, after some more digging, it looks like the APN settings are all under the data menu using the *#*#3282#*#* to access it. It's all broken up instead of being in one list like in 4.3 and prior, but it looks like it's all there. now to find some apn settings for Sprint and AT&T to do some testing.

Its my understanding these are the same model phone. You might want to try just putting in your AT&T SIM if you haven't done that already. On my previous phone (Verizon Note 2), that changed carrier specific settings and loaded the APN automatically. You shouldn't have to do any dialer menu magic for GSM service. When I activated my Nexus 5 on AT&T we just stuck in the SIM and the AT&T rep configured stuff on his computer, nothing more needed to be done on my phone.
Yup, it worked without a hitch. Soon as I put in the AT&T sim the APN menu was right were it should be. Service was fast and clean. Putting the sprint sim back in proved problematic, but nothing a system restore couldn't fix. Thanks for all the help

No mobile internet connection under Lollipop

Hey guys,
so i just flashed the lollipop Factory image.
Everythings good but i dont have mobile internet connection. I do have a signal and can make phone calls and stuff just the internet connection is not available. Already checked if its enabled and APN settings.
What can I do about this?
Thanks in advance.
Same problem here with german prepaid sim card (O2) - if that's relevant in any way
Same problem here, I flashed my Nexus 5. I also have a german O2 sim card. Someone has an idea?
Hey,
i had the same problem. For me, this works:
go to apn settings and change the mvno-type to nothing (maybe anything comparable, in german: "keine")
Hi Chris,
great, that worked! Thanks a lot
Thanks Chris, works perfectly again!

Thanks, this worked for me too. Btw the same german O2 provider.
My fix was to use *#*#72786#*#* to reactivate and reset everything. After that I was able to update the PRL and after the profile was updated I received a LTE connection.
I'm a US Sprint user though so YMMV... I didn't even have an APN menu
Mine was already set to none on straighttalk and I still have no internet access...any ideas?
What fixed it for me was to create a new APN setting and leave everything default except the name. Changed it to "pinternet.inerkom.de" and it works.
O2 here as well btw ;D

Did you try with a friens simcard if you have data then? Double checked the APN settings and rebooted after that?

constant signal loose

Hi experts,
I constantly loose signal on the phone, the phone is stock not rooted.
i tried to switch airplane mode on/off without success only reboot to the device sorts this out.
im on FW .77
does some else experience this issue with the phone? is there anything i can check that will point me in the direction of resolving this?
thanks
M.
Try changing APN from Sony GRPS to one of the other alternatives.
It's set to Vodafone my local provider
Worked for me.
Try to re download APN as below, worked for me.
Settings
Wireless & Network
Mobile networks
Access point names
Three dots top right, then Reset to default
Back button twice to Wireless & networks screen
Internet settngs
Select your network provider from list.

Sometimes if you select a different connection point from the list in "Network operators" that works to, i.e.. I have loades of EE connections points, I sometimes select a none 4G one for a better signal.
Settings
Wireless & Network
More
Mobile networks
Network operators
No luck... Could it be the sim card itself?

mobile data stop working

Hi, my mate 9 mobile data stopped working today for no reason, only thing I did was connect the phone to the hotel wifi last night, not sure why is doing this. I tested the sim card on another phone and mobile data works fine so is not a service provider issue, has anyone experienced same behavior before? I already restart the phone and verify mobile settings but issue persist and have no data traffic unless I connect to wifi

Have you checked Settings -> More that data is turned on for mobile? Also check your APNs. Settings -> More -> Mobile Network -> Access point names.

yes all settings checked, I even disable restarted and enable them again
Are you on T-Mobile? If so it's an APN bug.. You have to create a new APN with the same settings and use that. The default one causes mobile data to keep being lost...
Thanks, this fixed it for me.

Was driving me nuts, took some trial and error. FYI i think some of the newer roms no longer have this issue, although because of the stupid Huawei blocking updates by IMEI you might need to install via FirmwareFinder.
Great thanks!! But I keep mine stock.
