Anomalous battery behaviour - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

A friend of mine got me this screenshot about her n5 going from 80% to 0% then (after repower up) back to about 20%... how do you explain it? Unfortunately i have nothing else.

That is a sign of dying battery. I've experienced that already. Had to replace my battery. Every time I repowered my device it was loosing about 50 to 80%. Swaping the battery solved the issue.

SAME issues..started 2 days ago.. 5% - 15% - 13% - 22% all in a span of 2-3 minutes. Sure not something a FR will fix ?? (Phone is reaching 2 years)

Same issue here, although its behaving itself today. new battery on the way.

power consumption measurement and battery questions

Is there any way (or application) that allows to check actual mah power consumption?
I know only battery monitor widget, but it gives ridiculous results, like -700mah during ac charging( phone using more than 1500mah of power at given time is just beyond my imagination) and I can't really rely on it.
Also, is there any way to check if battery of phone is damaged? It is being said that they last about 500 charging cycles. Lately my battery discharge very fast, but I'm hesitant to replace battery without knowing if actual one is reason of my problems.
Thanks in advance for your help

[Q] Battery Starng Issue - Please Help.

Hi everybody ...
I have a strange problem with my Galaxy S2 Plus battery ...
I got my s2 over a month .. but now here is a thing :
I charged the battery and went to sleep .. as usual .. phone is idle everything was disabled (WIFI - GPS - DATA - and most of apps) .. when I woke up I found that the battery percentage is 80% .
after a while during the day it drained sharply to from 63 % to 32% in seconds ....
then a charged it so it acted normally till the night ...
the next day... got the same problem in the morning ,,, few hours later ... I charged it when it became 92% it suddenly became 100% and fully charged...
I searched over and over and haven't found a similar problem ....
My question :
Could it be the system JB 4.2 or the battery is damaged ... what should I do ??
Thank you in Advance ...
Try to calibrate the battery, install wakelock to see whats waking the phone up an instsll battery stats to check on batterry.
If everything is ok then try to reflash the ROM and then if stiill an issue use different charger if not then it must be the battery

Standby drain

When you sleep, does your phone sleep, or does it stay up all night and crunch 1s and 0s? Rate this thread to express how you deem the speed at which the OnePlus 2's battery drains under standby conditions. A higher rating indicates that when the phone is not in use, the battery drains minimally.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
My oneplus 2 standby drain is too much! 8-10% drops in 7-8 hours

Mine drain 1%-3% in standby.. Oxygen OS has great standby..

same. my My oneplus 2 on CM12.1 drain 8-10% battery in 7-8 hours standby regardless the data connection is ON/OFF.
it is even worse when i was on oxygen OS.
When my WiFi is on the battery is drained around 8-10% or else 3-5% . I'm on oxygen 2.1.0
Oxygen 2.1.1 Minimal Battery Drain
With Wi-fi the battery drain is only 2% over 6hrs in night
Depends on the signal reception,
Must most of the time, the phone only wake up for like few minutes, and will go to deep sleep for hours if untouched. So far so good i guess..
My Standby Drain was in 12hours = 3% lost! No extra apps was installed.
Fully charged, unplugged and let phone lying for 12 hours. This is my result: (See attached pics)

It's Resurrection Remix
Could be, but you have no google account setup, no mail sync setup. So, this is not real use of smart phone...

From where do you know about
No Android OS, Google Serivces, Cell standby in the list... Therefore not normal phone usage, wifi off etc.
It's looking better after 2.2.0 update now my phone drains 0% battery life in 5—6 hours
It was worst in 2.1.2
Sent from my ONE A2001 using Tapatalk
My battery drains like 8-10% overnight in about 6-7 hours. But then i have crappy cell reception ... Imagine using dual sim with such a bad cell reception ...

This is not also good that in 5-6 hours the battery brains 0%. 2.2.0 has a problem of sudden drops of percentage upto 10 % suddenly (with in 10 t0 15 min use) as the consequence of 0% drop of 5—6 hours non use......
With boeflla inside idle drain is negligible, but with stock it drains faat
Its more than good
Pretty bad. Even in stand-by, my phone is still empty at the end of the day. This is with a fresh os install on many different roms.

Charging help/tips

Firstly when charging overnight, does the charger keep charging it to keep it at 100%? Secondly when playing games or other battery-heavy actions but its on charge, is the battery being used or is it drawing power from the charging? The reason this is important is that I would like to play games on it, and I'm into ones that require a play session of at least an hour. I don't want to wear down the battery so soon.
When it reach 100% charger stop charging till it goes to 90% then it start to charge again.
Playing games during charge is not recommended cause it produce lot of heat and can kill ur battery quickly.
Playing games even during charging makes your phone slow discharging. I've tested it with my Z5 and Mortal Kombat. Standard chargers can't charge so fast. I don't know what about Sony fast charger because I don't have one. Maybe someone else can help.

You can keep charging while playing games if you find that the game is using more charge than the charger is giving you can buy a better charger or disable some apps using battery

When I wake up in the morning the phone is always, always at 100% and when it's plugged in during charging and reaches 100% it does not stop charging and drop to 90% it stays at 100%.
You guys must be using dodgy chargers!
It does stay at 100%, but everyone seems to be saying it drops to 90? That would be silly, it goes to 100% then powers the phone via the charger to keep the battery full.

U guys don't understand what i mean it drop to 90%(never will happen), but i mean when it reach 100% the charging will stop otherwise the battery will heat up and explode.

Like I said in my previous post, it stops charging and leaves the battery at 100% and directs the charging current to the device itself so the battery will stay full whilst charging.

The battery chargers can change the rate in which they charge, when they reach 100% the charger will drop the charging right back to a trickle to keep the phone topped up
