Hello guys.
So i bought the s6 non edge 32 gig model 3 days back. The phone is awesome no doubt but i had heating issues from the very first day. First i thought it might be the battery drain. did factory reset and i was getting 4hrs+ SOT with 5.0.1.
Now i am on 5.1.1 and the battery seems to have improved giving 5hrs SOT. But the phone heating issue remains the same. The phone gets warm about 92F above after 5 minutes to 10minutes normal usage.
Using the phone for 30 min the temperature is near 100F . is it normal? Cpu spy shows normal activity. The phone only heats while using it is cool with screen off. The heat is felt on the left side of camera and spreads around after more usage. Due you think its because of the climate. i live in a place where summers are always above 93F . But even in AC phone gets pretty warm.
Do you think my battery timings and phone heating is normal. Please comment i am quite worried about it i spent a lot of money on it.

i think if you're worried about it you can bring it to Samsung Service Center to get it fixed.
i donot have samsung centre in my area. infact i have to ship it to dubai to get it fixed. can you tell me does your device gets warm after using it?

wow that's pretty bad, sometimes, when using too long for battery consuming applications like gaming or such, but when i put it into my pocket when it's warm, it gets hotter.

okay so i downloaded both apps... the cpu spy shows no sign of abnomal cpu usage... it is in deep sleep for most of the time. better battery stats show no app draining battery... i only use fb/messenger and gmail app. today i got 5 hrs SOT with 22hrs usage time. i think the battery us fine but why the phone warms up so much. My question is how oftenly do you feel that yous phone is getting warm?
Maybe brightness is too high causing the phone to heat. Cases also make phones overheat.

he could be using auto brightness, which also causes the phone to spike the brightness and heats up faster
Hey, I had a similar problem with my Galaxy S6 32gb and I would only get roughly 10 hours battery life out of it with 2 hours screen on time and as soon as I turned the screen on, it would be so hot on the right side, you couldn't actually hold it. I just ended up selling it and didn't think to contact Samsung or anything because it did it every time I turned the screen on so I just thought it might've been normal. I always had everything turned off with just wifi and auto screen brightness on and just 1 Google account synced too. :silly:

Figured out it was a hardware issue... there are two ways to check if you s6 heating issue is software or hardware related. install gsam battery monitor and see if kernel or android OS (apart from any third party app draining) is draining most battery than its a software issue.
otherwise its a hardware one. i got mine replaced and the new one works fine.

All Notes that I have had (1-3 and the Edge) would only get warm when running hard (nav + music) while charging at the same time. The Edge seems to do the same thing, but mine doesn't get warm at all under typical use.

I've had mine since Monday and it's barely gets warm whereas my GS3 would get hot. I haven't played many graphic intensive games yet, but have watched hrs of video continuously and the i think the only heat really is coming from me holding it. Other than that, it's been exploring the phone, surfing and other everyday use.

How many days have it been?
I got mines on launch day the 14th. And it took a few days of draining it low and charing it back up before it started to last.
I remember when I first got it was it dripping to 50% really fast then start to go a bit slower from there.
But like today. I check a few emails and got on the Web and it went from 99% to 98% in 10 to 15mins vs day one where it would drop from 99% to 90 in 15mins.

Its actually pretty good. With moderate to heavy use, i get about 11 hrs but if i just let it sit with light use (checking email, light browsing etc) it drops slowly. It's at 4:45 mins now and I'm still art 91%. I wonder if your other charger is bad or an app is draining it. My nexus 7 (2013) drains on the charger if my daughter played her my little pony game. That app keeps draining in the background.

Specifically around the camera area on the back. This happens whenever I am downloading or updating software and similar activities which suggests to me it is a wifi issue (I dont have bluetooth enabled most of the time) Not sure if I should worry about this or not - the phone seems otherwise OK but does get hotter than my Note 3. In normal use, even while charging it is cool to the touch
I took advantage of the BOGO offer from Verizon and got two LG G5 at Costco. I've been using my phone lightly, but I can't help but complain about the major issues that gets everyone else talking: Battery life.
I see other people have screenshots of achieving 6-7 hours of SOT, but I'm seeing nowhere near that. The most SOT I can see is having 3 hours before hitting to a depleted battery. Occasionally as well, the phone feels pretty hot to touch when it idles or have some fair amount of usage. Even right now I have it inside a thick, bulky protective case, and i can feel the heat from the back. Is it the SD820 or is there something off?
Just to make a comparison, I have been using the Sony Xperia Z3v for a year and a half with Verizon since its release and it's a great all around phone. I usually achieve 5 hours of screen on time or even more depending on how heavy I've used it. Waterproof, dual front facing speakers, 20.7 MP camera (although very outmatched by the G5's), and the power saver absolutely works. What I mean by that is that when the power saver is on in the G5, nothing seems to load at all.
So the overall question is, how is this phone for everyone? I absolutely love the camera, but the battery drainage and overheating is an issue for me. I've had thoughts about exchanging for the S7 Edge since it's pretty much a direct upgrade of my Xperia, but I'd like to see what the G5 can really offer. Oh and, how long is it until I get the extra G5 accessories from doing that bundle deal? Thanks.
You know I've noticed peoples complaints about that but to be honest I think its just certain phones that had these issues. I don't know how but mine hasn't been hot since I first set it up. My battery life lasts me a full 8 to 10 hours depending on if I do too much gaming or YouTube. Those are my biggest battery abusers. But I made sure to deactivate the bloatware Verizon wanted to install. I've had a good experience with mine. The only time I've been mind boggled was when out of the blue chrome would cause the phone to freeze up till I reset chrome. Other than that my device has been running so smooth.

I've been one of the people complaining about battery life. In the first week or so that I had my phone, battery life was miserable. I need to be completely honest here though. After getting into my second week of using this phone, my battery life has greatly improved. In my honest opinion, I think it needs about a good week to 'settle' or 'break in'. I've done nothing different done I set my phone up and I have deleted any apps or anything. I don't know if this is the case for anyone else or not.
I like the phone a lot. It is fast and everything works well.
The only things that I want improved are
1) Screen brightness adjustment. Too dark in dimly lit areas and too bright in normal room lighting.
2) Battery Life. This is a strange one. Some days I have really good life, but sometimes the standby use it high. Google Play Services sometimes eats a lot of battery. I have to reboot to get it to stop. There are also people saying that being on wifi causes more drain. I thought this was not true for me, but I am rethinking. It may be higher when I am at home and on wifi.

So far, I've yet to achieve substantial screen on time. It's really strange, I was having my phone used from 330 to 830 tonight, and it went from 100% to 45% with only 50 minutes of screen on time. WiFi and mobile data off, and I wasn't taking a lot of pictures.
One thing strikes me is the Held Awake/Doze clarified by GSam. That's eating the most battery, what exactly is it?

I haven't been able to figure out why sometimes GSAM shows very little held awake with the phone deep sleep for a majority of the time and sometimes the held awake is almost the entire time since the phone has been unplugged. It seems that if the phone gets into the held awake state that you can get out of it by rebooting, at least it seems like that to me. I have not had enough time to come to firm conclusions on this. I am pretty sure that the held awake has something to do with Google Services or Play Services. It would be great if we can get root and limit the wakelocks from these. Just have to wait on that.
Pretty solid compared to the G4. No heating issues, battery lasts longer as well. I'm at 25%, 11h 7 min on battery 2hr 53min screen on time.
I average 14.5 hours total, 3.5 screen on time. I have noticed turning wifi off when I'm not using it saves a pretty decent amount of battery, which is odd.
I'm not upset with the battery life or anything, it's better than my S4 and G4 were, but if the S7 really lasts 7 hrs with screen on.... i don't know. I have another week to decide on restocking. I do love how quick it is, it's beautiful, feels great in the hand, and the option of removable battery.
I like this phone, and while it is better than the G4 in every way (very buggy, lag, missed taps, etc), I now get paranoid about any tiny bug on this thing and wonder if a Galaxy would be more reliable.
My first full charge I got 45 hours of battery life with 4 hours of screen on time. However that was before I had all my apps reinstalled and that 48 hours with 4 hours SOT included reinstalling all of my apps. Screen brightness on auto the entire time.
Since then I've only been getting 4 hours of SOT with 24 hours battery life. That's only 4 - 6 hours more of total time on an no more SOT than what my 2 year old LG G3 was getting.
LG skimping on the battery was a mistake.
Hi to all users, hoping you're having a nice day i ask you a question I bought two days ago a second hand Galaxy S7 Flat (G930F) gold platinum 32GB including original box and accessories and bla bla bla for 230€. The phone is working well is updated to Oreo with the latest security patch of July 2018 it's in the same condition as a new one really everything is fine except for one thing or two . Start talking about the battery that is really bad i can reach only 3h30min maybe 4h00min (only under WiFi usage) with screen resolution in FHD a lot of stuff deactivated etc everything setted for a low battery consumption (exeception for power saving mode that i hate) now the thing is i relate the battery to the second problem that i mentioned before and the problem is that the phone overheat a lot and i think this overheating is caused by the old bad battery is that possibile? An example im using only Whatsapp to text messages and the phone it's not hot but if alongside i open common application like Facebook or Instagram or anyway even if i open another two application that they are not Facebook or Instagram the phone overheat! I downloaded CPU-Z to see the temperature of the battery and it goes always from 30.4C to a max of 35.8C or sometimes 36.2C but never higher but the fact is that with this battery temperature when the phone is in my hand its really hot.. the thermal temperatures are always beetwen 36C when the phone is "cold" and max 46/47C when the phone is hot, almost forget to say not always but often the phone overheat a lot even when he is on charge.. now dont tell me that the battery its normal i know well that a S7 or S7 edge can do 6h or 7h of screen on usage (only over wi fi usage) or 4h on screen in 4G all day, mine with this battery reach only 1h33min or 2h in 4G i know this battery is bad and i will replace it in this days i hope until this friday but my question at the end is simple can an old battery cause so much overheating on this S7 or anyway in general on a phone? Thanks in advance to everyone that who spent time to read this and help me!

You can check which apps is draining the battery.
Just go Setting, then search for "Device Care", then hit "Battery" -> Battery Usage
All S10 phones have a bug that is causing them to not deep sleep when screen is off, causing poor standby performance. This is caused everytime you receive a VoiP call, so after you receive one, just restart the phone. Being caused a proximity sensor bug.
Try off Biscuitby feature

Try to wipe disable Google app and check battery consumption. If problem persists, try to wipe cache from recovery and if necessary do a factory reset, 30% battery drain in a night without network connections is not normal. If all attempts fail better go to Samsung assistance to change the battery
7hrs: 10% when sleep, wifi on. Not good but I think it is not too abnormal. I think, samsung still have a lot of bloatware!
But on screen I thnik is OK: 5-6h mixing, 3000mA battery on a strong SOC, it's normal. My back up Huawei GR5 2017, 3400mA, it is the same time!
This solution was posted on the S10 forum and certainly helped me.
There's a bug that stops the phone from going into a deep sleep mode post making a call (audio/video) on apps like WhatsApp, Skype et al. The solution for the time being is to reboot the phone once before going to bed. I tried a lot of other things but had a ~2% hourly standby drain which reduced to <5% overnight after figuring out this solution. I have both WiFi and Bluetooth on at night.
You may try to play around with the battery saving tweaks in ONE UI but nothing worked as well as this has. Hopefully there'll be a more practical fix to this soon.
Cheers!
Being as this affects voip calls, does this mean wifi calling is affected too? I mean, that's technically voice over IP.

I tried to debug battery drain using Battery Historian. I noticed that the phone does go to Doze mode completely, but for some reason, CPU stays awake. I'm still new to the tool, will try to find out more about why CPU is kept awake all the time.
I get battery drain regardless I make any VoIP call.
Another issue I noticed is PUBG lags horribly on the phone. I tried different combinations of graphics settings, the game was still lagging.
Just tried pubg...hdr +ultra runs ok for me. No lags, maybe sometime stutters for a sec.

For the first launch, the game runs very smoothly, lag starts after that. The more I play, the more lag I get.
Putting the phone on battery saver mode barely drains any juice (Medium Power Saving mode), seems like it's just a software issue and not hardware specific issue.
By the time Samsung releases any fix, we might have to live with this one.

What update? Can you share the info that came with it? My SM-G970U1 is still on Feb. 1, 2019 patch. Although I don't have any problems with battery drain, pulled out two screenshots lately, both over about 12hrs period, one was with cellular radios on and the other just an airplane mode:
It's mostly Exynos people or the Sprint USA models \ service. No one else is having it really.
Got the March update. Exynos version. Battery drain seems a bit better at first glance. But it's not been long since the update. So not completely sure.
Got the phone today and the battery sucks lol and got an update today as well
My Snapdragon S10e never gets less than 4 hours of SoT under the heaviest use (I am constantly messing with settings, installing\closing\uninstalling apps, etc etc)
If I use it "regularly" just browsing Reddit and such, with a normal phone signal, I get 6 to 9 hours every time.
I don't use dark mode until Sunset.
I leave NFC/Bluetooth/Location on at all times.

When my Pixel 4 XL overheated, it was usually because I was charging and playing games on it at the same time. If it gets hot, then I would reboot it or leave it powered off for a minute. Could that be the case here?
Also, this is a new phone and you just installed a bunch of apps. My guess is that Android is likely evaluating and learning your habits so that it can optimize your battery and other stuff -- so there's alot of internal processing going on causing it to warm up.
Also, if you live in a city where the weather is warm or hot, then that'll make your phone warm or hot as well. So far, my 6a hasn't stayed warm very long except when I was transferring over/installing all my apps ... and it hasn't gotten hot yet.
The phone does get very warm, but it is also the middle of summer and we just set everything up. Tensor is also known for running on the toasty side. Unless your phone is warning you about excessive heat, it is within normal parameters.
it runs definitely warmer than a pixel 4 doing the same stuff.
I have sensor genius installed so it's logging temp 24/7. please do the same and let's share the graphs.
Mine is running substantially cooler using LTE rather than 5g, hopefully this is fixed through software updates.
I also put mine in LTE mode and it's much cooler. 5G is a bit overkill for mobile stuff at least for me, I just turn it on when using hotspot.
Ok, finally experienced the heating issue just doing normal browsing on LTE. Battery temp got up to around 43c on a cool day with no sunlight.
After some searching I found that turning off adaptive connectivity helps. After turning that off, temps are much better. I was in an area with poor signal so that likely was a part of it, but something else to try.

After some searching I found that turning off adaptive connectivity helps. After turning that off, temps are much better. I was in an area with poor signal so that likely was a part of it, but something else to try.

Another option to try is Disable Adaptive Battery, Disable 5G(If not necessary)..
I wouldn't worry too much. I absolutely assassinated my Pixel 3a XL. It was always hot. For couple of years. Huge amounts of onscreen time. Leaving it under blankets while charging on accident etc etc... Thing was fine. Also, a battery is only $12 and these pixels the easiest phones to open if you do somehow end up with severely reduced battery life couple years down the road
It's more the insane battery drain that goes along with the heat then the heat itself.
May be a CPU usage app that tracks what's taking up so much processor power.
My issue went away once I turned off adaptive connectivity.

Same. As in my country there is no 5G yet, I've changed to LTE preferred and phone is not hot anymore and battery doesn't drain.
It'd maybe gimp the overall performance some but u could try under-clocking your CPUs with FKM or EXKM while u track down the issue. (that is, if your bootloader is unlocked...in which case u could use BBS to track battery usage)
