Hello guys.
So i bought the s6 non edge 32 gig model 3 days back. The phone is awesome no doubt but i had heating issues from the very first day. First i thought it might be the battery drain. did factory reset and i was getting 4hrs+ SOT with 5.0.1.
Now i am on 5.1.1 and the battery seems to have improved giving 5hrs SOT. But the phone heating issue remains the same. The phone gets warm about 92F above after 5 minutes to 10minutes normal usage.
Using the phone for 30 min the temperature is near 100F . is it normal? Cpu spy shows normal activity. The phone only heats while using it is cool with screen off. The heat is felt on the left side of camera and spreads around after more usage. Due you think its because of the climate. i live in a place where summers are always above 93F . But even in AC phone gets pretty warm.
Do you think my battery timings and phone heating is normal. Please comment i am quite worried about it i spent a lot of money on it.

i think if you're worried about it you can bring it to Samsung Service Center to get it fixed.
i donot have samsung centre in my area. infact i have to ship it to dubai to get it fixed. can you tell me does your device gets warm after using it?

wow that's pretty bad, sometimes, when using too long for battery consuming applications like gaming or such, but when i put it into my pocket when it's warm, it gets hotter.

you can try downloading CPU Spy Reloaded to check your CPU state usage, get better battery stats as well to check what is consuming your battery the most

okay so i downloaded both apps... the cpu spy shows no sign of abnomal cpu usage... it is in deep sleep for most of the time. better battery stats show no app draining battery... i only use fb/messenger and gmail app. today i got 5 hrs SOT with 22hrs usage time. i think the battery us fine but why the phone warms up so much. My question is how oftenly do you feel that yous phone is getting warm?
Maybe brightness is too high causing the phone to heat. Cases also make phones overheat.

he could be using auto brightness, which also causes the phone to spike the brightness and heats up faster
Hey, I had a similar problem with my Galaxy S6 32gb and I would only get roughly 10 hours battery life out of it with 2 hours screen on time and as soon as I turned the screen on, it would be so hot on the right side, you couldn't actually hold it. I just ended up selling it and didn't think to contact Samsung or anything because it did it every time I turned the screen on so I just thought it might've been normal. I always had everything turned off with just wifi and auto screen brightness on and just 1 Google account synced too. :silly:

Figured out it was a hardware issue... there are two ways to check if you s6 heating issue is software or hardware related. install gsam battery monitor and see if kernel or android OS (apart from any third party app draining) is draining most battery than its a software issue.
otherwise its a hardware one. i got mine replaced and the new one works fine.
I've just bought my phone two days ago, but it seems to have a really awful problem, my battery is draining like hell, I don't get more than 7 hours SOT and sometimes my SOTs are aweful.
Take a look at the screenshots.
Is it normal? Tell me if it isn't so that I can take it for a replacement.
One of the screenshots are from 100 percent to 14 and the other one is from 100 percent to 79
Also my phone is always warm and I think that it's too much warm sometimes.

If your phone is quite new , then I'd suggest that you should most probably put your phone through many charge discharge cycles . if the problem still persists then I'd really advice you to take a replacement

Yes I think? I get only 7 hours with no batterry left.
7 hours SOT is good. You have no reason to complain about that.
Also, you need to wait a week for everything to settle, and let the Samsung power monitor start putting unused apps to sleep.
Also, dual SIM phones will use more battery than single SIM.

@JohnSmit268 I have a Dual SIM S8+ as well, only use it with 1 SIM, but I get about the same battery life as you do, slightly better but I'm happy with it. I've put some apps to sleep permanently so they don't run in the background and I use it at about 30% brightness.

I noticed your computed power usage with 7h SOT was 1633 mAh, that's a lot higher than mine.
With 30% brightness, full res display, and a black theme, my computed power usage with around 7 and a half hours of SOT is only around 800 mAh.
Do you use AOD?

Yep, I read somewhere that it doesn't have much effect on battery consumption.
Now I'm charging my phone to 100%, see how the phone performs without AOD on full res. I really feel the drainage is faster than it should be, let's see what happens.

Difference between FHD and WQHD+ is negligible and makes almost no difference to battery usage.
If you think 7 hours SOT is not good, then you are honestly very much mistaken. It is very good.
But you simply cannot compare easily with someone else. There are so many factors that change. Signal strength, wifi strength, how often you use wifi and data, brightness, auto brightness, AOD, vibration, sound, bluetooth, NFC, apps installed, apps used, apps running in the background, location settings. They all make a difference and vary between every device.
Colour of wallpaper will make a big difference too. Wallpaper with lots of black will save power because of how AMOLED displays work, so that will also makes a difference between every device too.

Don't know if it's luck or something, or maybe it's a one time happening but this is my test result, with the draining speed I have, it can give me around 9 to 10 hours SOT. I had the 3G always on, my brightness was more than half. This SOT is outstanding, I wish my device maintain this. I turned off AOD, switched to a black theme and used full res display.
Just wondering why the screen usage is that high. 2400 mAh...

My smartphone is new. I bought it sealed two weeks ago.
I have had a similar energy consumption with the two s7 I have owned. With a very light usage, with the phone in idle almost the entire time, no wifi and gps activated, I would say that I loose something like 20% a day. It is much higher than other phones I had like the s4 mini or more recently the Redmi Note 4, with something closer to 10% a day (the Redmi Note 4 has a 4000 mAh battery which is higher that the 3000 mAh battery of the s7, but still energy consumption seems to be lower). In general, idle energy consumption seems to be a bit high to me on the s7. But I heard that the pixel 3 for instance also has a standby time that is not impressive. Again, it depends on what is installed on your phone and how you use it.
Maybe some tools like betterbatterystats or something similar can help you to see what wakes up your device if you want to make sure it is not due to any app.
yep mine consumes the same , i think its some hardware issue , i flashed morokernel 7.4 and undervolted , used hidden settings magisk module to turn off wifi watchdog and background scanning , that saves almost nothing ,,
you can even turn off the doze feature and idle drain is the very same between doze and not doze...
the idle drain is just bad .. it will also be the first and last samsung phone ill ever have , back to sony after this one, my amazing z3c (rip) used 0 to 1% per night and gps was 5 times more exact than this samsung ****phone, had perfect pocket mode , what s7 is missing entirely
well at least it has a good screen on battery life , so its not totally unusable phone
buying samsung is like wanting to buy a german car but end up buying an english or french car instead lol ...
edit: just searched for a comparison officially:
16 hours Standby sony zx1 9 % samsung s7 23 %
but if you install swift installer , use dark themed apps , and firefox with darktheme addon for websites the amoled screen on time is impressive , almost the same as idle drain for normal browsing lol

Well yes, some other phones have more impressive idle power consumptions. I also have naptime installed to trigger doze when the screen goes off, but does not change battery life so much. Even ROMs with a very limited number of apps installed lead to a high idle power consumption, so seems like an hardware related problem to me. But I still consider the s7 as a great phone and keep it as my daily driver. It is kind of waterproof, has an excellent camera even in 2019 standards (and there's just one in the back, not dozens), I like the fact that it is a 5 inch phone that can easily fit in my pocket and that I can use with one hand, the design is quite good and polished (subjective), no curved edge and notch that I don't really like (subjective), it has nfc, a jack port, a great amoled display, fingerprint in the front panel. And recent Lineage OS and Lightrom ROMs work quite well. This phone has still a great support after a few years, and I have difficulties to find all the features I like on this phone on any other phone. So charging my phone every 2 days is ok for me
Edit:
- bad signal reception can also increase battery drain
- just came across this link if that can help: https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/how-to/fixed-standby-battery-drain-t3758050

its wrong, but theres nothing we can change so stopping worrying is the right call ... 0,9% per hour is the best which is possible on this phone it seems ..
but of course we need to throw this phone in the trash after 2 years becasue the battery will have deteriorated and usage is closer to 2 - 3% per hour (which in effect means it wont wake you many mornings (unless you have 30%+ when you go to sleep) .. while other phones might hold out 4 or 5 years maybe even 6 until the idle drain reaches the treshhold of unsusability ...

I upgraded to an S9 in Arpil from an S7. The S7 has no sim card and I get about 3 or 4 days yes the phone is idle most of the time but never got that battery life when it had a sim card.
I am not suggesting you remove your sim card but this does indicate where some of the idle battery consumption goes,
So I've debloated a bit and cannot get live messages to work, I have the live messages apk and sticker centre apk installed, anyone know which other apk's are needed for live messages to work? thanks
Maybe post what you yanked out?
All the AR stuff, and crock and friends stickers (reinstalled that but didn't help) but still have sticker centre, and the live messages apk's but nothing happens when I tap on live messages, no error etc, nothing.

Battery life usage efficiency on the samsung devices is disgusting. Im just comparing my sub 200 dollar motorola GSAM stats with my N20U . Former currently shows 1day 5 hours with screen on time of 3 hours used for 23% battery consumption. I'm lucky to get 10% per hour of SOT with the N20U. That's even with 60Hz. I'm adamant but cannot prove it, that the N20U battery is no where near the 4500mAh stated nor the 4370mAh min capacity.

I say 10% SOT with the 10+ is nominal... if nothing's going nuts
Your running Q which also probably contributes to the gluttony.
The 20U even with the bigger battery with all the new stuff it's probably a wash compared to the 10+.
You don't think that faster memory/cpu and huge Li were a free perk did you?
Like a bad gf Samsung is compensating for her huge Q

Looks good. The best I got with my snapdragon is about 5 hours SOT for 50% battery over a 21 hour period.
Ironically , my previous Exynos dual sim device did better. Then again I have a **** load of battery hogs running ,like whatsapp, telegram, multiple google accounts , location sharing and Facebook, latter is in deep sleep.
Please use this thread to post everything about the Battery live of our S22 ultras
Pretty bad the first day (drained 40% in 12 hours of not doing anything).
This is currently day 3 of me using it. The battery learning or whatever is done and it is noticeably better (but not perfect). Although the fact that on low brightness/ambient light you are stuck with 120Hz kinda kills the battery in the evening.
My Phone runs actually 2Days and 1hour without Charge. I have 7% remaining and 6h 5 Minutes SOT.
I Use energysaver mode(always on+bluetooth+wlan is non stop on) and all apps in deepsleep that i dont need
For me it´s good so far^^

When it comes to battery drain while the phone is not doing anything (just sitting with the screen off and all apps closed) it is worse than my almost 4 years old S9+...
While using it it is hard to tell, but sometimes it seems to just eat through the battery.

I would be happy to have your results. Look at my S22 ultra (Exynos 12/256) Battery drain ! Just from reading my mails and using telegram and a little bit of whatsapp
Day one battery life is pretty awful! Hope it improves..
. I take it off at 100% and I watch the battery tick down almost immediately. Just general use dropped 16% in the first hour. Hope it gets better than this.
Q: Whats the name of the Samsung optimizer app that.one is supposed to run after an update?

Wtf thats **** mate :/ hope we will See an Update on the official Release:/
Day three. This has the worst battery life of any device I have used in years. For example, Dropped 5% in first 16 minutes of use today. I used smart switch. Maybe that did it? Or is 5G?
I have 2 full days in now, and the battery life is good. S22U 512K unlocked SD version, no power savers, adaptive brightness. I have fast charge turned off and using Anker wireless charger, recharge in about 3-4 hrs.
Feb 23rd : 8h 43m SOT, 8h 22m screen off, 36% remaining at end
Feb 24th : 8h 48m SOT, 7h 51m screen off, 46% remaining at end
I'm on day 5. S22 Ultra with 12/256. It is technically getting better but I do not like how quickly it drains. I been finishing about 5-6 hours SOT max but with battery almost completely dead. Just from unplugging it and driving to work checking notifications, it goes down to 97%. Never seen a battery drain that quickly. Maybe I am just spoiled from the iPhone battery. Also running everything max QHD, 120Hz, auto brightness and Snapdragon version.
One additional comment, I wonder if the battery drain could be due to the GPU and people's different usage patterns. I don't watch a lot of video or play games and my battery seems OK. That and the reports of the phone getting really hot when playing games and the refresh and screen glitches makes me wonder if people reporting higher drain are using the GPU more.
