Anyone elses phone heat up behind the sim card after 10 mins of use?

Is it the processor or radio?
Every HTC Android phone I have had (G1, MTS3G, G2, MTS4G) gets hot at the bottom of the phone when I am online with it, regardless if it's network or WiFi...they always get warm when I am online. Today every time I touched my phone it was warm at the bottom, as if I was online. So I force closed pretty much everything, especially things that may transfer data...but it stayed warm and my battery started was at 75% after 3 hours of pretty much no use. No calls, no internet, no texts, no games...just me shutting down programs. So I turned off my network. After that, the phone cooled off and my battery lasted longer than usual. But even then it's almost dead already.
Either the processor is simply too much for this battery, or there are things running in the background that are constantly streaming data. Either way root needs to come quick, or this thing is going in the box and the G2 is coming back out.

Yeah, i've noticed it too. I also noted that it's right over where the battery itself is.
I chalk it up to how quickly the battery is being used, and these types of batteries aren't so great when you drain them fast. The inefficiencies start to show and they heat up.
I think getting a larger capacity battery, like the ones being talked about in this thread, might help lower the temperature. If the drain remains mostly constant at high output like that, spreading the load over a larger discharge range won't tax the battery itself as harshly.
Anyone with a higher capacity battery then stock notice it not getting as warm?

S6 heating!!!! help

Hello guys.
So i bought the s6 non edge 32 gig model 3 days back. The phone is awesome no doubt but i had heating issues from the very first day. First i thought it might be the battery drain. did factory reset and i was getting 4hrs+ SOT with 5.0.1.
Now i am on 5.1.1 and the battery seems to have improved giving 5hrs SOT. But the phone heating issue remains the same. The phone gets warm about 92F above after 5 minutes to 10minutes normal usage.
Using the phone for 30 min the temperature is near 100F . is it normal? Cpu spy shows normal activity.The phone only heats while using it is cool with screen off. The heat is felt on the left side of camera and spreads around after more usage. Due you think its because of the climate. i live in a place where summers are always above 93F . But even in AC phone gets pretty warm.
Do you think my battery timings and phone heating is normal. Please comment i am quite worried about it i spent a lot of money on it.

i think if you're worried about it you can bring it to Samsung Service Center to get it fixed.

i donot have samsung centre in my area. infact i have to ship it to dubai to get it fixed. can you tell me does your device gets warm after using it?

wow that's pretty bad, sometimes, when using too long for battery consuming applications like gaming or such, but when i put it into my pocket when it's warm, it gets hotter.

you can try downloading CPU Spy Reloaded to check your CPU state usage, get better battery stats as well to check what is consuming your battery the most

okay so i downloaded both apps... the cpu spy shows no sign of abnomal cpu usage... it is in deep sleep for most of the time. better battery stats show no app draining battery... i only use fb/messenger and gmail app. today i got 5 hrs SOT with 22hrs usage time. i think the battery us fine but why the phone warms up so much. My question is how oftenly do you feel that yous phone is getting warm?

Maybe brightness is too high causing the phone to heat. Cases also make phones overheat.

he could be using auto brightness, which also causes the phone to spike the brightness and heats up faster

Hey, I had a similar problem with my Galaxy S6 32gb and I would only get roughly 10 hours battery life out of it with 2 hours screen on time and as soon as I turned the screen on, it would be so hot on the right side, you couldn't actually hold it. I just ended up selling it and didn't think to contact Samsung or anything because it did it every time I turned the screen on so I just thought it might've been normal. I always had everything turned off with just wifi and auto screen brightness on and just 1 Google account synced too. :silly:

that's a sad story you shouldn't contacted Samsung to get it sorted out

Figured out it was a hardware issue... there are two ways to check if you s6 heating issue is software or hardware related. install gsam battery monitor and see if kernel or android OS (apart from any third party app draining) is draining most battery than its a software issue.
otherwise its a hardware one. i got mine replaced and the new one works fine.

Thoughts on the Verizon G5 so far?

I took advantage of the BOGO offer from Verizon and got two LG G5 at Costco. I've been using my phone lightly, but I can't help but complain about the major issues that gets everyone else talking: Battery life.
I see other people have screenshots of achieving 6-7 hours of SOT, but I'm seeing nowhere near that. The most SOT I can see is having 3 hours before hitting to a depleted battery. Occasionally as well, the phone feels pretty hot to touch when it idles or have some fair amount of usage. Even right now I have it inside a thick, bulky protective case, and i can feel the heat from the back. Is it the SD820 or is there something off?
Just to make a comparison, I have been using the Sony Xperia Z3v for a year and a half with Verizon since its release and it's a great all around phone. I usually achieve 5 hours of screen on time or even more depending on how heavy I've used it. Waterproof, dual front facing speakers, 20.7 MP camera (although very outmatched by the G5's), and the power saver absolutely works. What I mean by that is that when the power saver is on in the G5, nothing seems to load at all.
So the overall question is, how is this phone for everyone? I absolutely love the camera, but the battery drainage and overheating is an issue for me. I've had thoughts about exchanging for the S7 Edge since it's pretty much a direct upgrade of my Xperia, but I'd like to see what the G5 can really offer. Oh and, how long is it until I get the extra G5 accessories from doing that bundle deal? Thanks.

You know I've noticed peoples complaints about that but to be honest I think its just certain phones that had these issues. I don't know how but mine hasn't been hot since I first set it up. My battery life lasts me a full 8 to 10 hours depending on if I do too much gaming or YouTube. Those are my biggest battery abusers. But I made sure to deactivate the bloatware Verizon wanted to install. I've had a good experience with mine. The only time I've been mind boggled was when out of the blue chrome would cause the phone to freeze up till I reset chrome. Other than that my device has been running so smooth.

I've been one of the people complaining about battery life. In the first week or so that I had my phone, battery life was miserable. I need to be completely honest here though. After getting into my second week of using this phone, my battery life has greatly improved. In my honest opinion, I think it needs about a good week to 'settle' or 'break in'. I've done nothing different done I set my phone up and I have deleted any apps or anything. I don't know if this is the case for anyone else or not.

I like the phone a lot. It is fast and everything works well.
The only things that I want improved are
1) Screen brightness adjustment. Too dark in dimly lit areas and too bright in normal room lighting.
2) Battery Life. This is a strange one. Some days I have really good life, but sometimes the standby use it high. Google Play Services sometimes eats a lot of battery. I have to reboot to get it to stop. There are also people saying that being on wifi causes more drain. I thought this was not true for me, but I am rethinking. It may be higher when I am at home and on wifi.

So far, I've yet to achieve substantial screen on time. It's really strange, I was having my phone used from 330 to 830 tonight, and it went from 100% to 45% with only 50 minutes of screen on time. WiFi and mobile data off, and I wasn't taking a lot of pictures.
One thing strikes me is the Held Awake/Doze clarified by GSam. That's eating the most battery, what exactly is it?

Honestly, I'm not positive. Make sure in your display settings, though, that you have 'screen always on' turned off.

I haven't been able to figure out why sometimes GSAM shows very little held awake with the phone deep sleep for a majority of the time and sometimes the held awake is almost the entire time since the phone has been unplugged. It seems that if the phone gets into the held awake state that you can get out of it by rebooting, at least it seems like that to me. I have not had enough time to come to firm conclusions on this. I am pretty sure that the held awake has something to do with Google Services or Play Services. It would be great if we can get root and limit the wakelocks from these. Just have to wait on that.

Pretty solid compared to the G4. No heating issues, battery lasts longer as well. I'm at 25%, 11h 7 min on battery 2hr 53min screen on time.

I average 14.5 hours total, 3.5 screen on time. I have noticed turning wifi off when I'm not using it saves a pretty decent amount of battery, which is odd.
I'm not upset with the battery life or anything, it's better than my S4 and G4 were, but if the S7 really lasts 7 hrs with screen on.... i don't know. I have another week to decide on restocking. I do love how quick it is, it's beautiful, feels great in the hand, and the option of removable battery.
I like this phone, and while it is better than the G4 in every way (very buggy, lag, missed taps, etc), I now get paranoid about any tiny bug on this thing and wonder if a Galaxy would be more reliable.

My first full charge I got 45 hours of battery life with 4 hours of screen on time. However that was before I had all my apps reinstalled and that 48 hours with 4 hours SOT included reinstalling all of my apps. Screen brightness on auto the entire time.
Since then I've only been getting 4 hours of SOT with 24 hours battery life. That's only 4 - 6 hours more of total time on an no more SOT than what my 2 year old LG G3 was getting.
LG skimping on the battery was a mistake.

Heat Issue, anyone?

Hi guys,
I have just recently switched to 7 pro like a few days ago from my previous ROG2 phone.
The performance and also the screen is of course improved, however, im not feeling good with the battery and heat issue on this big boy.
I have a few apps running in background using location and all but these apps are the same setup using on ROG2. The phone seems to be heated quite fast, the temperature is around 38-40 degrees from what I check. This is from video call, listening to music via bluetooth. Not mention gaming on this one...
I'm sometime on 5G, most of the time are using 4G and WiFi.
Anyone facing this kind of problem and if so, how to solve it?
I already did factory reset though.

I don't have any problems with heat. I am not gaming so can't say anything about that.
Also while chargin the phone doesn't get hot. But I am using slow charging.

I am at the moment restricting the 5G signal and seems like everything else is much improved, both heat issue and also the juice draining is much slower.
Gonna keep doing the same thing for another week and see the result.
I am also using schedule charging and only maximize it to 90%.

Interesting. I only casually have 5G so can't say anything about that. But it would be absurd to have a more expensive SoC because of 5G capability but being unable to use it because it overheats and drains your battery flat.

Here same problem, issue drain. Terrible stand by and I Get some drop frames on genshin impact, problably is a bad optimization on kernel.

I have heat when watching Netflix and hbo Nordic. Hope next update fix those

Interesting. I have insane/superb battery life (better than my Mi 10T pro) and no heat at all.

I've had mine for a few weeks. Did notice it getting heated up during basic browsing and light usage. I charge mine to 80% and it usually lasts a day, though I would've expected it to be much better than that considering it is a 5000 mAh battery.

Question Pixel 6a overheats only in first few weeks, or indefinitely?

Many complain that the Pixel 6a gets hot or overheats. I have also seen videos were people claim it's only in the beginning while the phone "learns" your usage habits and how to optimize itself accordingly. But later on it doesn't need to run all of its processes like in the beginning once it figured you out, so to speak. (The exception being when you record a 1080 video at 60 frames, which even later on can get problematic.)
Can Pixel 6a users chime in here and recount their experiences? Does the overheating last past the first few weeks after purchasing it?
Bonus question: are the signal issues some complain of widespread, or not?

Overheating in the sense that it shuts down with a warning? No, never. But the phone does get annoyingly hot, especially when charging even if I'm not using it at all. That's the phone plus the weather in my country isn't helping. Phone regularly touches 40° according to battery guru, when charging can go up to 43°.

On WiFi things are very normal. Mobile data however is a very different animal. It you have poor signal especially expect this to get pretty hot. Like stated above though, not shut down hot just hotter than what I consider normal. 35-40c battery temps on stock with those conditions isn't unusual.
Initial setup for sure gets toasty as well.

For whatever reason (latest updates maybe?), I've noticed recently that not only does my 6a not overheat, but the battery consumption has dropped significantly. At my admittedly low level of active usage I can easily go two days and still be over 50%. I might try for three full days soon.

I dont have any problems with overhiting , i have phone about 30 days. Playing games recording at 4k no heat problems at all.

Yes. The 6a may get fairly warm in some specific use cases, but it doesn't actually overheat as in start throwin' out warning messages and start throttling or worse, crash/reboot that I've ever witnessed. Actually mine seems to run slightly 'less warm' since A13's beta 2 & 3...just before I flashed a custom kernel. A few things to consider besides differing usage scenarios. If you're using a case, it may not only hinder cooling a little but probably 'feels' less warm due to the insulating properties as well. I try to go with a minimalistic case...it may not provide a lotta cushion if dropped but I'm hoping the improved grip offsets that point. And ofc the thinner the skin to less it retains heat. I went with a grippy Spigen Liquid Air or something like that.
Above all, I keep in mind that the 6a has the same processor as the [email protected] P6 PRO and that also helps me to forgive n forget that it can get toasty at times...plus thst resulting Tensor 'grin-factor' tho...

If you're using mobile data or using the phone as a hotspot thing gets very warm.

Normally, I've only experienced the phone getting very warm when I'm playing a game and charging the phone at the same time. However, on a recent trip to a foreign country, my phone (and its camera) stopped working because it was hot outdoors (around 80°F) and I was outside for 30min or longer. My friends' iphones didn't overheat though.
I haven't experienced any signal problems.

Mine never overheats. Its just warm enough to be a hand warmer, but not enough to damage anything

...and it displayed an overheat popup warning? 'cuz it was 80F outside? I've been out with my 6a dozens of times in 80F+ weather and NEVER had my phone throw an overheat warning much less shutdown or lock up. You might have something wrong with ur phone if a warm day kills ur phone...js

No overheat warning. Phone felt very warm, froze up and apps would barely respond or it would keep on rebooting. Tried a few times to power off, wait a minute, and then power on to get that last photo, but didn't work. After I got out of the heat for a short time, phone went back to normal. Felt hotter like 95 degrees, but weather report said 80s.
Nothing wrong with my phone per se. My guess is that my phone was in direct sunlight for 30 min. I myself was dying from the heat. And before that, I was already taking pictures on and off for an hour (in the heat but not direct sunlight). I've used the phone before in hot weather without issue, but this time around, it was continued use and in direct sunlight.

My 6a definitely overheats and shuts down sometimes without warning. This has happened numerous times even when the phone is having light use (chrome or connected to android auto). I would say there are 2 factors. When the outside temperature is hot (35c or hotter - which currently in Australia is a daily occurance) and when the signal is not strong (also a very common occurrance here) - when this happens the phone can overheat and shutdown within minutes even with little use.
From my exp. signal strength seems to be the biggest issue. The pixel seems to literally burn through the power when signal is weak and get hot.
Generally I have had a 50% chance of getting a 'Your phone is hot' warning - other times it just turns off.

You should RMA the phone. Sounds like a faulty device to me.
Also, just hot ambient temp does nothing to a phone. If it gets direct sunlight, thats unsafe for the device because of how hot it can get (if you measure temp in your car, it gets up to 60-70C+ easily.) If I use my car in hot sun, I aim an AC vent to its back and then the phone is super chill all through the ride.

Yes, I think I will RMA it. - I don't agree re ambient temp. My phone certainly seems to shut down more often when the ambient is hotter. Also, re the car. I had the phone in the glove box which is separately cooled to 21c and even then it would overheat, - I suspect related to poor signal. But yes - will RMA it.

Try safe mode first. You may have an app which is misbehaving. I've never had my 6a overheat, it will sometimes get a bit warm when charging, but that's it.
