xperia z3 no screen backlight! then screen dead! - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've a problem with my new sony product, I was in swimming pool after taking some photos the phone stop working, and the screen blinking and can not boot up the phone, after checking it I notice that there is some water in the back camera cover.
So i waited about 5 hours and tried to recharge it, then trying to boot it I heard the startup sound with no data on the screen!
I noticed that the screen/touch working but there's no back-light!
then I shuttled it down and wait again, after booting the screen has no data and the startup sound works, ( Also there is no vibration anymore! )
I tried to use the small off button but no way! I've also upgraded it via PC Companion but still have the same issue!!
I don't know what to do the phone is new I bought it from another country so its international warranty! the the xperia care here in Egypt is too disappoint.
Please help!

I'm sorry to say, but the service centre is your only option. U might wait more because it's international warranty, but since the dead screen was caused by a faulty water resistance they should replace it for free

[Q] Xperiaj J many issues.....

Hello,
I recently bought Sony XPERIA J which accidently slipped into water tank which with no doubts remove the warrant of My phone & have caused several issues with its working. I kept the phone switched OFF for 5 days and successfully removed moisture from its motherboard. When I turned it ON everything is fine except malfunctioning of WiFi & several Touch Screen issues.
1. The problem with Touch is that whenever I press the POWER KEY to unlock phone I have to wait for atleast 5-10 sec for TOUCH to start responding. Is this a software issue or is it a hardware and also is there any way to fix it.?
2. Another problem is the small LED light (notification indicator), it is constantly glowing BLUE and does not show any other color for any notification and even never turns OFF. Can it be fixed?
3. Problen with WiFi is that it just keeps on trying to turn itself ON with no success, which is consuming the Battery Power a lot. How can I turn OFF the WiFi permanently?

Dude, those are clearly hardware issues. There's no way we can help you with that... take it to a repair store or try your luck with the official warranty.

Thanks for Your reply.
I actually took it to the sevice centre but the said it can only be fixed by replacing the motherboard which costs Rs10000/- , so I just thought of asking for help over here.
Alright, I can bare with these TOUCH & LED issue, but I really need to disable WiFi, so is there any way to do it like removing WiFi module or something like that?
you can try and say to the service centre officials that it started happening after u tried to update but it failed...ofcourse you have to find another service centre
just prove this is happening due to software reason even though it isnt
As they say, bring it to a Sony care point.

Xperia Z3 screen flickering, help

I gave my Z3 a little bath in tap water in the sink. It was not submerged so this is more like a shower. I double checked and secure the ports. I don't even use the ports anyway because I have magnetic charging. I dried it and started using it. It was all fine until 5 mins later it just randomly turned off. Battery was good, tried using the power button and it wouldn't work. So I did the power button and volume + method and it fixed it. But the touch screen didn't work sometimes (randomly), there was a blinking red light before I booted it on, and there is rattling near the camera area when i shake it. I ran diagnostics and noticed that my screen was also flickering. Some of the tests used vibration as feedback and this made the flickering worse. Now the screen is struggling to stay lit. It turns on for 3 seconds and then it dies. You can only see parts of it too. I need help. This phone is unusable. I bought this phone (Sony Xperia Z3 D6603 black) from Worldwide Distributors on Amazon.com 3 months ago. I only took it into the water a few times. I don't think its water damage because I had the flaps secured unless Sony gave me a defective phone. I paid $700 for this and I'm not rich either. I was saving up. The phone has the standard 2 year warranty. Somebody please help. what should I do? Will Sony fix it or give me a new one?
UPDATE: Screen is dead. It still turns on and touch screen still works but cant see anything. It's like it lost signal . Kinda like how a tv loses signal. The tv still works but are no shows on.
IMPORTANT: I just found a little hole that shows part of the screen backlight. Its on the side but its more like a crack. I haven't drop this or anything. So this is possibly how the water got in. This is also Sony's fault. Will I get a new replacement or refund or repair or something?
Thanks for all your help.

Happened to me too! The screen is black but is showing the brightness and the touch works. It's totally weird!. i'm going to send the phone to SAT
Seems the lcd backlight is still working where the lcd screen is not;
not sure whether the warranty covers water damage or not...
Got around the same problem. happend in the water screen went black phone was still working. After a lot of reboots and resets it started to work for around 3 seconds then evantually the screen was staying, but is flashing now, looks like the flickering happens when the screen gets too much power. In light conditions it either flickers or is real dark.
What can I do to fix this? Or do I just contact Sony? I've also tried the pressure test and it is water resistant so it has to be something different.
If the screen is cracked they will charge you for the replacement for sure

Hi. I've noticed that my screen flickers when I put the brightness on maximum. Watching the behavior it makes me think that it happens all the time, but it's only noticeable the screen brightness is high. Tried to get it on film, but my camera does not seem to pick up the flickering.
I noticed this after a pool bath with my phone, but i don't know if it is related to that. I did not a chance to use maximum brightness before
I do not have any other issues though, just the flickering. Should i send it to repair? My phone is an 6633 Dual Sim Z3 (Brazilian, unbranded) with less then 3 months of usage.

Water Damaged Z3

So i never realized that z3 is only waterproof for 30 minutes, i took it into a pool party, and was surprised it wouldn't turn on, and tried turning it on outside water.
It's been 3 days, i have letting it dry itself. When i plug in the charging cable, it turns the charge light on (red) but nothing more, does not turn on. When i press and hold the power button, the red charging light behings to flicker.
When i plug it into pc, it comes up as unrecognized usb device. No disks, or files accessible.
Sony PC Companion fails to read it too, and fails to repair it. It doesn't go past the disconnect and connect usb with volume button down.
Flashtool also fails to recognize it.
I have charged it for long now.
Questions about what can I do with this -
1. Is there a chance that replacing battery will help?
2. Will it be possible to recover my photos from the device?
3. Does anyone have an estimated cost range from Sony center for repairing this? My insurance deductible is 175, i'm trying to figure out if i should call it in or send to sony.
4. Any other options/alternatives/ processes that i can try. Worst case, i call insurance, but i can see what we can do before i do that.

That's unlikely. I think the mainboard is damaged.
2nd
I don't think so. Except if you know a friend who can do SMD soldering. Ask him. If you have no such friend: unaffordable. If some photos are on the SD card, put it in a reader at your PC and see what happens.

175 in what currency and country?
Sony will see it's a water damage. How long have you had your device in water? If it were 35 or 45 minutes, send it in. If it were 6 hours... There are "sensors" that can show how long they have been under water. I don't know whether this kind of sensor is in your phone or not. But it's possible.

I don't think your mainboard can be repaired at all. Maybe the LCD and Touch still work.
If you can geht a device with broken screen for under 175, you can put it's mainboard under your screen. Maybe it works, maybe not.
But remember your "new" phone will have the other phone's IMEI what makes your insurance worthless for the future. Mobile phone insurances are usually bound to the IMEI.

Sony Xperia SP - Cyanogenmod 12.1
I think he has T-Mobile USA, that is the deductible in $ as part of their Jump! program.
Since I assume the water damage indicator would be tripped/red, T-Mobile wont give you a warranty exchange.... you have to pay deductible unless you go through Sony.
I went through warranty exchanges earlier without insurance and they obviously made it clear to check the water indicators before sending it in.
So best case if you are sure you did everything right, is to send it to Sony and save yourself an unnecessary fee.
First of all,
I'm sorry to hear this has occured upon your Xperia device, Unfortunately some Xperia Z3 Devices have a build defect in which water is passed through by the lanyard port if this was the case, Sadly your device is probably water damaged, However replacing the battery will give you no luck what so ever furthermore To retrieve your photos you would need the Device to boot up and as your Z3 is unable to proceed, You will not be able to unless they're saved on your SD Card (In which case you have one).
Reparing your device - You won't be able to find a quote from XDA, however i think it's in your best interest taking it to your Insurance group as Sony would decline repair under warranty due to the fact it's accidental damage (Unless you say there's a defect through the lanyard my research as shown, and it wasn't under water for more than 5 minutes)
The only other step i can think of is leaving your device with the flap open and putting it in a tub of Rice as Rice absorbs water this usually worked for my previous devices which were not waterproof,
All the best with your Device!
I'm still waiting for my water damaged device to be replaced by Sony, and it's been over 3 weeks since I've sent it in. They said they would replace it, but don't have any stock of the phone. It's the d6603 model btw.

I turned it on and the screen it's working, but SIM Card not and when I lock the phone after a few minutes the phone turns off by itself...
Right now I'm on Linux ROM on locked bootloader, should I install stock ROM before send it to the Sony repair service?

Restore the phone to stock and send it to Sony, it may be a gamble if you have unlocked the bootloader before however. Make sure it doesn't die while restoring!

It doesnt really matter if it die or not its water damaged anyway.. They should replace or repair it

Depending on your repair center there could be charges
if it dies, in opinion, if under warranty, it would be good for you.
Lots of people have a waterdamaged Z3 after contact with water allthough it is advertised as a waterproof Phone ??
A friend of mine took it's Z3 to the pool to take some pictures in the water and killed the lcd after some pictures.
Not so waterproof after all.
In your case your motherboard got damaged, the motherboard probably gets so hot from the shortened components it shuts itself down. Is the back of the Phone really hot just before it powers off ?
Water itself doesn't kill your Phone, it is water in combination with courant.
The biggest fault most people make when there Phone had a contact with water is trying to power it back on to see if it is still working.
The Phone powers itself off to protect the motherboard from damage when it is short circuit by water.
By trying to power it back on immediatly after the waterdamage , you put courant on the shortened circuit and most likely burn out a component.
Best way to threat a Phone after waterdamage is to take it apart as far as possible and put the parts on a hot plate ( or other heat source) at about 55 degrees Celsius for half an hour.
Afterwards clean away the waterresidu with IPA and a toothbrush before re-assembling the Phone.

Sony xperia z3 d6653 screen problem

Hi, guys im having a problem with my z3 sometimes it only vibrates but doesnt turn on, sometimes it doesnt go past sony logo turns off and sometimes it turns on.. My z3s screen used to flicker from time to time so I thought of buying a new screen but I just canceled my order as I thought if it shows the sony xperia text its not a screen thing, idk if its software related cos when *rarely* it boots I can use it normally. I have its back cover opened whenever I try to turn it on there is a noise on the motherboard (dunno if its normal) if any of you have any suggestions you are welcomed!
My d6603 has the same issue (flickering, all that u mentioned above),have you managed to fix it pls tell me how....( Cant use flashtool for rom flashing)
Unfortunately no, I concluded its a motherboard issue so im looking for a new one...
