What am I doing wrong? - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I checked the battery stats and found that wifi was ON all the time. Even though i left the battery saver ON last noght for 10 hours and also turned on the stamina mode with Extened Stamina turned on too last night and I do it frequently too.
So whats causing this orange wifi bar to appear without breaking. I know that it breaks when it is turned off. So I dont know whats happening.
Any help will be appreciated

It is like caused by the mobile radio active bug in lollipop. You either have to root and disable a bunch of services, flash back to KitKat, or desk with it until Android m is released.
But you could set your WiFi to "stay active never" under the advanced WiFi settings. That provides a temporary solution for me, but some apps like Google services would still find a way to keep it active.
I eventually gave up and rolled back to KitKat. Couldn't be happier now!

Oh so i am not alone in this. Thank you for the useful information. I'll try your method but won't be rolling back to KK. I am happy with the device. Battery time isn't much affected.

If you've never used this phone with KitKat, then you don't realize what you're missing. My battery life doubled when I switched back to KitKat.

You'll never get them all without crippling your phone. It's a bug within Google services.

Yes its unticked and also i have extended stamina enabled. That should disable wifi automatically, right? But i have seen alot of people complaining about this issue at Sony forums. I am trying, at the moment, to repair the phone using PC companion. Will report back the result
Wish me luck:fingers-crossed:

No, i'm at 6%.
something you are running is causing the activity to spike.
Percentages like this are meaningless without something to compare it to. 40% isn't unheard of if you never use the phone, for instance.
I was having this issue yesterday. I installed FAUX kernel and it went away; screen: 28%, mediaserver 16%, rocket player 13%, android os 10%. Yesterday at this time my battery meter was 40% ; today 67%.
That could be coincidence and not correlation though. If you are up for the challenge, a custom kernel could help.
However, like vincent law said, it's all relative. If android os is 40% and your battery is at 95%, that's not really so bad is it...
When android os is high... It's an app keeping your phone awake 90% of the time

Reboot when you see this happening.
I've seen it once before... I didn't think to check OS monitor before rebooting to see exactly which process it was though.
I have this problem. Anyone got solutions to it?
Try disabling some location features in Google now. I found the traffic cards to give big battery drains in Android OS. Or you can check which in settings - double slide down from top > location, to see which app is using the highest request. Google play service was usually high when I had huge android os drain.

I have also noticed that at times google play services has a huge drain on the battery. I was wondering if play store setting had anything to do with it. I have mine set to " do not automatically update".
I have both facebook and google search on low battery use. For Google location reporting, I only have location history turned on. I don't know if this helps.
I start getting the same issue since yesterday.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
I've also been experiencing the same issue. Started a few days ago. Checked tonight right before I put my phone on the charger after a full day of use, and Android OS had 9+ hours of awake time. It's driving me crazy and I can't figure out what is causing it.
I am so disappointed!!! I have the same bug. I had it on my old Phone (Samsung Galaxy S). I flashed 3 different firmwares on my i9000. Nothing helped. Now I bought the Nexus 5 and after one day it starts again
I went to bed with 97% Battery. Woke up and it looked like this:
It is stock Firmware with no changes. Maybe it is because of my google account? I am using the same google account for my nexus5 and i9000.
Check your WiFi connection. I don't really know why (yet) but sometimes, being connected to certain WiFi networks increases Android OS usage. This happens a lot in my college's network so I believe it's a problem with that, because it does not happen at my home's WiFi. You could try disabling WiFi in the different networks you use and check which is draining.
Hope this helps.

Yes I had this problem. I flashed factory image and enable high accuracy location AND reporting. My problem I pinpointed was Google Now NOT refreshing.
It would hang there trying to update and without location it didn't have anything to report and it would eat battery. I would force close the launcher and notice the wakelock stopped shortly, to return to Now not updating.
sent from my Nexus 5
I found a way to prevent the Play Services and the Android System from eating my battery.
First I noticed that it was only happening, when the location services were enabled, and then I found the App Ops App for KitKat.
All I did was disable the rights for those two Apps to use location and to keep the device awake.
I'm having the location services on - and working in 4sq, Maps, etc,.. - and no more drain.
Maybe you can verify this?
Try this
My Android OS is at 3% after 19 hours.
Google services not enough to even show.
Battery 75%.
Light use 55 minutes screen time.
Google auto sync off, i sync when i need to.
I don't let play store check for app updates .
I turn location on when i need it.
I use mostly wifi some LTE
Unchecked wifi scanning always available.
Keep wifi on during sleep
Minimize battery use when wifi is on is checked.
I refresh my email accounts when i open them so it's not being checked automatically.
No battery or services complaints (Google services is so low it doesn't even register), give it a try?

The problem is definitely caused by the Wifi! I am using my College-Dorm-Wifi over night. When turning it off, the battery life is normal.
But turning off the Wifi is no solution! I don't have data so I am only using my phone in college networks
There musts be another way.

Insane wakelocks draining battery.

Just got my Nexus 5 after having a Nexus 4 for approximately a year. This is my third or fourth cycle and out of nowhere I'm getting a horrid amount of wakelocks. I usually run Google Now, and have without issue (battery wise) for months and months (at least on my N⁴ running 4.2/.3 AND 4.4). I had Google now on for the first half of the day but it had nearly 80% of battery usage and kept my phone awake relentlessly. Upon shutting it off a few hours ago,I'm still experiencing terrible drain. Can someone give me some insight? I've already rebooted multiple times, cleared cache in Play Services/play store/Google search, etc.
The battery is down to about 30% at 2:30 pm with very little sot (less than an hour) unplugged at 7am at almost 90%. At this point on a regular day I'd have 80% remaining with the same usage on my Nexus 4
Check my screenshots for the bbs stats. These wakelocks are mostly unfamiliar to me.
Thanks in advance for any help.
PS: running latest version of Cataclysm and FK r14.

Between that and and always on Google Now, seems to be most of the problem.
OK Google is a battery hogging gimmick. It has zero real world purpose. Use Nova/Apex/Action Launcher.

Battery is so bad I'm about to go charge up my old Nexus 4 and use that until this issue is sorted out. At least that won't die on me for a while and I can actually use all the gimmicky goodies.
Even shutting off EVERYTHING on this phone (mobile data, sync, low brightness, Google now, location, device manager, OK Google, etc.) does nothing to improve battery longevity.

Try the reverse then?
Have you Google the "event" wake lock?
Have you tried a (what may seem drastic but actually is not) factory reset?

I had similar problems losing at least 5% an hour most of the time, but in the end I returned the phone to google. Maybe I will buy one again later while this gets all sorted.

Ok, did a little research on my phone. Turn off the "ok Google" thing in the Google search bar, just change your language to English UK. That'll get rid of the audio in and a lot if the other stuff.
I think its the new Google search update, I had this issue since the update and uninstalled the updates in the apps section and the problem has gone away.

I just wiped the phone and installed a new ROM and kernel (PSX and Linaro FK 13). Let's see if the problem resolves itself. Will update at the end of today! Thanks everyone for the help but it seems as if Google needs to fix this problem on their end. Me having to constantly wipe/reset/reboot/shut off features/etc. my phone just to get it to function properly is a great annoyance.

Well, the same thing happens with pretty much every 4.4 rom I install on my Nexus 4. The only way I was able to fix this craziness is installing Matrix kernel. I have a feeling its some kind of conflict with superuser. My battery was reporting screen on all the time for some reason. And yes, my locations have been turned off and left on GPS only

Hopefully this will fix it for you. It seemed like from the screen shots the app better battery status or whatever it was you were using to analyze your phones state had a lot of wakelocks itself.
If you still have issues I'd try a different app to analyze the problem tho. I still havn't even bothered to root mine yet I'm hitting around 75% after 20 hrs.
if you use the following in combo w/ greenify it helped me huge on my old phone.

Note Pro 12.2 LTE not going to sleep

Hi All,
Ive been having an issue with my P905. Android system is keeping awake all the time. Anyone else experiencing this? Any fix?
I've tried factory reset. It worked fine for a few days but its not sleeping anymore. I have two profiles set up, not sure if this could be an issue? I dont want to root due to warranty issues. Ive tried installing BetterBatteryStats but without root the guys cannot help.
I've tried reinstalling the official software without wiping but this did not help. All the apps I have installed on the tablet I have installed on my Note 3 as well, other that bloat.
Not sure what to do now. Please help.
Thanks

I had a similar problem, and digging around, found that the NY Times app was using up a huge amount of the battery, even though it was set to only update every 4 hours. I removed it from the Magazine UI page, and while I couldn't uninstall it, I did restore the app to the factory image and deleted its data/cache. That fixed it for me.

This is so hard without being able to root the device.
Backing up, when you say it is kept awake, do you mean that it won't go into Deep Sleep, or the screen is actually staying on?
Assuming it's not a screen timeout issue, the places I looked were in the settings battery section - it shows what procs are using up the battery. I also checked settings for applications under running, looking at who was accumulating CPU, and also the System Panel app, which gives a different view into processes running.
What I would recommend is to charge the tablet up, then right before turning in, restart it (which will reset all the usage counters) and leave it that way overnight. Check first thing in the morning for what has been happening during the time it should have been in Deep Sleep.

I'm not seeing any smoking guns there. If you're not seeing anything suspicious under Running in Apps Management or one of the other performance monitoring apps, you may have to just start uninstalling things and see if you can isolate it that way.
What does the battery chart look like, tap on that green/gray graph and take a screen shot. This reminds me of my LTE Galaxy Tab 10.1. LTE would consume battery like crazy sometimes, particularly when signal strength was marginal.

try the greenify app?
last i remember the developer released a non root version but im not sure if your device is supported.
search playstore for "Greenify" and get the non root version
it hibernates most apps until you run them manually.. you could use this to possibly pin point the app that may be preventing sleep? hibernate all the apps you can and then remove on app from hibernation list and see which app is the culprit... each time removing it from hibernate and then putting it back or rather replacing it with another one so you can accurately see the effect of each app on sleep?

Yes always on is set, I have the issues on cm m9 and paranoid android.
Could be router problems. Stock kernel?
Yeah I always use stock kernel
The only thing I can think of is it being a router problem. Do you have another device around? Use that device and connect to your wifi and see if you can reproduce your WiFi disconnects, if it disconnects then its your router.
If you cannot, go to a friend or familys house or public wifi and see if you can reproduce your WiFi disconnect problem.

Do you guys happen to be using Snapdragon Battery Guru? Or any battery saving applications?
It's the phone. Not the router.
Does it happen on your other devices? No? Then it's the phone.
Someone else was having the same problem and had BatteryGuru installed which was turning WiFi off when the phone screen is off to "conserve battery."
Check your user apps guys.

Well I was asking that because they can be using those apps which are conflicting with wifi being disconnected when screen is on. I personally am not a fan of battery conservation apps, they don't do much in my opinion. Handling wakelocks and allowing ur phone to deep sleep is more important.

It doesn't even happen to me when its in deep sleep...its when I'm actively using the phone. My WiFi will drop and my network will disappear from the wifi list in settings, then 10-15 seconds later it reconnects.

Using another rom will not resolve the problem, the wifi driver is within the kernel not rom. Try using other kernels instead.

I have 2 hours of SOT! Why? I use a a stock 5.0.1, rooted with latest ElementalX. Greenified all apps except of the ones I need notifications from, gps is off, auto brightness and I can't get a decent battery life? Why?
I know people like GSam, but could we get a BBS log please?
I dont have that, but I will install it now. For now, please help me with what I have

I can't do much with what you have. That's why I requested you provide a BBS log.
I can tell you that you need to go into Developer Options and disable NuPlayer (and reboot). That's (one of) the culprits of crazy battery drain in 5.0. I don't use ElementalX, so I can't say if it's default settings are contributing to your problems or not. You may want to roll with stock until this issue is fixed?
I recommend for now turning off NFC and turning location off or setting to GPS only. Working pretty good on CM12.

It's kinda hard to see anything out of the ordinary. Have you tried different ROMs?

Chrome eats battery. I would get a different browser like Naked Browser.

I don't see anything too out of the ordinary. Have you disabled NuPlayer and changed location mode to Device only?
Please use the "Battery Life Help" thread convienently stuck at the top of this section.
