[Completed] HOW is this not a thing, or WHY can't I find it... - XDA Assist

Hello fellow forum members, and thank you for taking a look here today.
What I want to know, and have searched vigorously for, is a true Troubleshooting method for android... My Google-fu is pretty strong, but every time I try to find the answer I end up with "how to fix your wifi"...
Is there not a troubleshooting process for android phones to eliminate the possibility of hardware issues? Then a similar process for isolating the cause of the software issue?
I've been having an issue with my Samsung i9152 for some time now, as shown here... As you can see my linux knowledge has helped me through some advanced methods of checking what I can think of, but I am by no means a linux expert. I fix computers ever day... There is a very easy process to find out what is wrong.
Does it Boot?
No-> Check PSU, check mobo
Yes-> Does it post?
Yes-> Does it boot?
No-> Does it give beep codes?
And so on... Is there not a similar, logical method to troubleshoot phone issues? In my phone issue that I linked above, I have a problem where the phone is crashing... I've tried the things I can think of, such as checking for bad blocks in storage (thought maybe the mmc went kaput, but nothing) trying to disable SELinux enforcing, making sure the battery wasn't being shook loose (it crashes just sitting in the same position no movement).
I fill like I'm pulling teeth to fix something basic. I've tried several roms, verified checksums, follow instructions to a T, tried F2FS for data/cache on a ROM that supports it, and much more. No matter what I've changed so far it never makes a difference. These are ROMs no one else is having an issue with. Even if it is dying, I would like some closure, I would like to isolate exactly WHY through the magic of troubleshooting.
Thanks everyone for your help in advance!

usually checking the last_kmsg file would help figure out the cause of this reboot.

Hello and thank you for using XDA Assist.
I'm not aware of any universal generic troubleshooting tutorial for our devices, but perhaps you could start creating one in the Android Development and Hacking > Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting forum at http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/help. Note that the Play Store offers various apps to test the basic hardware components for many devices, especially sensors, but as you probably know, troubleshooting is more an art than a science and the specific ideal steps depend heavily on the user's level of technical expertise.
Good Luck!

[Completed] (Noob) Note 4 bricked USC (R4) Bricked/stuck ??

I believe a relative attempted to install via oden, A Verizon based module on this phone using odin. I am so unlearned about the android os that I do not know the terminology even to use here. Not complaints but just info, I am now victim to two arsons and thus homeless and rebuilding and so little time this is first chance I have had to post about this in some time.
I am not very adept at finding articles here so would appreciate any help any can provide.
I wish to and will learn all there is to know about Android some time in future and will master most of it except programing.
For now any help with any post or articles or what have you would be appreciated as well as any live help should someone so care to provide
You are welcome to PM or email me as well. [email protected].
If I am allowed to post this, I would consider paid help as well. If not allowed to post any part of this or if in wrong area, please help me correct my actions.
Thank you all in advance.

Hi,
Here is a thread on returning your device to stock with Odin, http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...mware-firmware-kernel-modem-recovery-t2942937
And as far as wanting to learn about Android and the things found on XDA, my only advice is to read read read. There is a lot of info out there, just search on terms or procedures you are curious about and read through the search results.
For your device, you can start with this thread to learn more about it... http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-verizon/general/guide-to-note-4-wip-t2939288
You can ask questions there as well!
Good luck!
Ty, Darth. Sorry for my noobness. I cannot seem to locate in the reccomended thereds, any thing about USCelluar phones or any link to any Rom, Kernal or what ever it is called. I do now know odin was improperly used and possibly a verizon upload was made to the phone and then on panic odin was ran and all possible options tried like flash tlock partition and any other options except pit.
I have not a clue where to start to fix it. I have been reading but if I seen any possible solutions, I missed them. Can someone please point me to some factory iriginal files for the USC NOTE 4 and some knowledge of how to use them? If some other files would work, where verizon or what have you, glad to try that to. The phone in question has never been on line or assigned any phone number since new. Not sure that matters. I do not mind messing it up further or experimenting to learn or help devs if any needed.
Thanks
Gh
I suggest then asking about your device here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/help/noob-friendly-question-t2866810
But I will tell you... Reading and research is a part of this hobby. Without doing a lot of that, people end up with big problems usually.
Here is the main note 4 section, I recommend reading through some of the sticky threads in the general and Q&A sections. Those are the threads at the top with a thumb tack symbol beside them. :good:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4
After you've read up and know a little more, then I'd worry about roms and whatnot. And any further questions can be asked in the first thread I linked in this post.
Good luck again!
I am confident in only big solutions. I thank you for your kindness and patience. I am only sorry that I do not know a rom from a kernal or a brick for now. I regret, I am not smart enough as well to follow the links so well or derive from then when I can. I do have unbreakable tenacity however and never lose a war due to it. The outcome for me is obvious but the time frame not so nice to me as I will not have time to read much for some months and now seek a quuick fix for a quick fix of feeling human again, for now. Any advise for a direct link to some adb and fast boot drivers? Seems this may be the sutipn and not odin for now. Seems I need to get what ever the file is called into the phone or files to recover to as mine goes to recovery every time but then losds the bum files it has stired. Would be nice to know how to idenify the files but all in good time.
You will need to ask in the threads provided. Xda Assist is here to help navigate the site, not for support.
If you have no time to read, and want things done quick, then I suggest to you that your heading down a risky path... And your device could suffer.
Also, XDA is a place to learn and share... Without doing your part here, meaning reading, you will have trouble getting people to help.
Thanks, and thread closed.

[Completed] I need help, ***please***

It's too much to go into at this time I just got off the phone with Verizon and they basically told me I didn't know what I was doing. Which I can guarantee that I know more than what some of these packages and tier 2 people know. And that's only because of all of the troubleshooting steps I've had to take between 8 devices-two separate manufacturers a tablet that was repaired and came back with the same exact issues, & COUNTLESS numbers of FDRs, and it all has to do with the operating system.
:crying:
Hi,
I'm not sure how you think you will find help if it's too much to go into and you offer no details at all? :silly:
We have sections for many devices, and general sections for devices that have no section. But I can't point you anywhere with zero details or device names.
My Apologies
I meant, just at that time, last night. It was late, & I was SEVERELY anxious.
Sorry if I did not explain myself correctly.
I also have just suffered my 7th TIA(a.k.a., a mini-stroke), due to all the stress caused by trouble-shooting these stupid devices, so I'm still recouping a bit.
Again, my apologies for anything misleading. :crying:
Sorry to hear about the health issues. That's unfortunate.
But yes, to direct you anywhere... I'll need some details.
When you're ready! :good:
My Apologies
Again, I sincerely apologize. I guess I just was feeling out the forum & wanted to know what other issues & information others could share, that may be helpful to me.
Will, do though, thank you Darth!!!

Well, good luck Sir!
I'll close this thread. :good:

Hello, and welcome to XDA!
You would have the best of luck asking for help in this thread:
> Android Development and Hacking > Android General > 5300mAh 5.5" Bluboo X550 - Review, ROMs, Info, FAQs
Please note, you will have to register for an XDA account to post there. Also, when posting, please be specific as to what the problem is, any modifications that may have got you to where you are (rooting, et cetera), as well as things tried to alleviate the situation.
Hope this helps, and good luck!

Maybe. It could be a hardware issue, but me not knowing what the problem is (it was even mentioned that you "don't know why" the phone isn't working), software is more likely.
Which is why it is beneficial to post your problem in the thread mentioned above. I don't know anything about your device, except what I skimmed through on GSMArena. The people in that thread own that device, and have the best-hand user experience as a result. I don't have electrical schematics of every Android known to man filed away (I'm lucky if I have even one). Other than approaching the company, your fellow users are the best chance at getting that information, if it is indeed a hardware issue (and replacement parts are available).
Please be detailed there. Simply saying the phone "doesn't work" isn't constructive, and helps no one, as it suggests a plethora of possibilities.
Not to be cruel, I wasn't expecting a three word reply which effectively condenses the original post. Asking-for/needing/demanding effortless information/solutions, while someone else does the heavy lifting, is not what XDA Assist is all about. It's about pointing people in the right (I like to say best) direction with the information given. I feel I have done that. With an account now, time to get your feet wet.
Hope this helps.

[Completed] General troubleshooting tips for dead phone?

Specifically I have a Note II that's dead, but I guess any general Android troubleshooting would be welcome.
We took it to a battery place that confirms the battery is okay (which also kinda rules out the charging port being the issue). The place also let us try a brand new battery to no avail.
I've never rooted the phone so the culprit isn't a bad ROM (a lot of troubleshooting articles come from the perspective of a bricked phone due to bad kernel).
Phone just is completely non-responsive. Straight-up hardware failure?
The almost-too-fantastical coincidence is that it happened on exactly the same day I received my new Nexus 6P and finished configuring it. I wondered if it was some kind of carrier-induced bricking process but I don't think that's the case. My account is still active with the previous carrier and they confirmed everything is cool on their end.
Hello,
Since you didn't post your device model number....
Try posting your question in the link below.

The experts may be able to help. Good luck
Thx I'll do that.

[Completed] Need a wee hand if anyone can help.

Right I'll start off by saying I'm a noob, like a really nooby noob, but, I can learn and learn quick, here's my predicament, I bought a phone off a guy (how many times has this scenario played out) and it turns out to be an s7 clone... mmb29k.g935fxxu1apava ...now it's not a bad phone, I've had worse and I don't need them to do much...but this phone has me so frustrated it's unreal, now I know "**** one Mick, you got caught lovely" but as a logical thinker, it still has the general workings of a ****in' fantastic phone, excuse the language, so I'm on here to see if anyone can help me make it good or point me in the direction to learn from scratch how to do it myself, maybe not exactly designing my own ROM yet, as I haven't a clue about any of it, but at least getting workable ROMs already created and loading them onto it. I've tried the s7 version of some fire type ROM but when I downloaded and prepped all the required files etc, I went to the boot screen and selected the correct file from sd card just like the video (which I must point out there were vast differences in the boot screen) anyway, the ROM started then abandoned, I tried again a few times but same result, I then wiped and reset factory settings and tried again...still nothing, so I set off on a mini-mission and ended up here having found out at least that the phone IS a clone, what type of clone and also the specs on it.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Pardon the language and apologies for the the rambling.
Mick.
P.s already rooted phone, modded the theme etc...not a fan, as I said phones are basically a communication device for me and a boredom killer if I have an hour or so with nothing to do and nothing bar my phone/web to entertain me.
I seek only speed, storage space and battery life.
Hello and thank you for using XDA Assist,
