app to easily switch between softkey and hardkey? - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I'm looking for an app that is able to enable the softkey with just a click of button and lock the capacitive button? Is there such an app? It's much like the one plus 2 which has a way to easily switch between the 2

there probably is but most likely you will need to be rooted

I'm rooted and willing to try any possible app.

[Q] Disable Touch Key Lights?

I'm on MIUI and there is no way to disable them while still retaining functionality. I do not want to use the on screen NavBar, i still want to use the touch keys and home button, just not have them light up. I'd also rather not use ScreenDIM, etc. I'd prefer to do a system change or something to disable the lights. Any ideas?
Isn't there a galaxy settings in the settings menu?

[Q] Menu button instead of multitask

The HTC M8 is my first phone without the physical home/menu/back buttons on the bottom of the phone.
I find the multitask button totally useless (what's wrong with holding down menu until it appears like my S3 and S4?) and I'd rather have the menu key there and not take up any valuable screen real estate. I'm also used to having the back button on the right and the menu on the left, can any of this be changed?
These kind of changes will require a true root solution, but will very much be possible. Just need S-Off to achieve it! Temp root won't do the trick.

Do you have in mind a complete custom Rom? Or can a root-only setting just be modified?

Nah just a modded framework-res/systemui would be all that's needed. But I'm sure entire ROMs will pop up with the ability to change on the fly.

Ok, I'm not interested in getting custom Rom's they're great but too much of a headache sometimes. I just want to adjust these settings

[Q] Why is the menu button the task manager button?

The button to the left of the physical button on the phone. (I'm not 100% it is called the menu button, but that is what I am going to refer it as.)
I just upgraded from the GS3 and am a bit frustrated. The button now goes to the task manager. I have to press and hold to get the menu appear. I hate this! Does anyone know of a way to get it back to normal? :crying:
It is now the recent apps button.

That's how Android buttons are supposed to be.... Recent apps, home, back, in that order.

I know it has only been a day, but have you heard of a way to change the function?

I swear it wasn't like this on the Galaxy S3
It wasn't like this on the gs4 either ....give it a few days for some of the apps to be updated for the s5.

You can press and hold on the task button and it will trigger the menu.

It wasn't like that on the s2, s3, or s4
To be honest, I prefer the new layout on the s5. It was a pain having to hold the home button to get to recent app before

I was super happy when I saw the option to long-press recent apps for the menu key. Hopefully later on we get to remap the key to menu in ROMs like CM but if not I'm fine with it. I do wish it were still the menu key by default, though.

How to long press home button for recent apps?

Hi guys,
I just wanted to know if it's there any way that I can long press my home button for recent apps (like MIUI) cuz i want to replace the recents button with a menu button, anyone knows?
Thanks by the way

Try Nova Launcher Prime which has gestures to have this kind of customization. Using recent button as menu button can be done with Xposed. Stock launcher doesn't have any options to customize.
Pretty sure PAC ROM has an option for this

i see, you can also remap keys on stock with the gravitybox xposed module, just open the gravitybox app and go to navigation key actions

They got rid of the dedicated menu key years ago. I want to say with the s6. Possibly even the s5. Recents/multi window just made more sense

No idea about after the 5, but long press recents on the S5 brought up the menu.

Then it must have been the 6 that started it. That was the first galaxy I purchased

The keycode for the menu button is still active though and if you're rooted you can use it with the following code:
input keyevent 82
Then just use a pie/gesture/ISAS to launch...or remap another button, etc...
?

You all just solved my issue on the S6...
I used to have a ( : ) on apps that would simulate the menu button. Then I upgraded the custom rom to 6.x.. lost that and couldnt figure out the "Menu Button"
So to answer, just tested. Its Long Press the "Back" button will trigger the menu button.
@Mysticales ? @RuggedHunter I'm not rooted.
