are developers ready for porting note 5 to our beloved note 3 :) - Galaxy Note 3 General

galaxy note 5 confirmed to be announcing in 13 august this year and it will sure having a new interface touchwiz skin of course it will be much better than the s6 many features it will add like
1-enhanced pen applications
2-updated camera application
and many things enhanced but with removing deal breaker features like sd card and also a fixed battery
q1- will u upgrade to note 5 all the way without caring about removing features ?
q2-or you will just find xda note 5 roms and flashed and staying in note 3 ?

i will not update simply because the newer phones dont give me more usability than my note 3. i dont need more power since my note 3 runs pretty fluently with costum rom/kernel and the only things thats get better are the cameras buuuuuuut not as much as they have to make me changing my current phone.
for the rom ports. lets wait and see. devs doing a really awesome job so far porting newer touchwiz versions

Even if i would buy a note 5 i would flash an aosp rom ? So i gonna stick another year with my note 3. Android M will come for sure (cm13)

The deciding factor for me at least will be which battery rumor turns out correct. We still don't know if it's a 3000 mAh or a 4100 mAh unit (we ALL hope it's the latter, I guess ).
If it's a 4100 mAh, with the Exynos 7420 inside the thing will be able to last two days and I'll really consider it.
If the 3000 mAh rumor turns out to be true, well, I'll keep my Note 3 till the Nexus 5 (2015) comes out. There was a leaked AnTuTu bench result which downright smashed everything else on the table which suggests the Snapdragon 820 inside.
So, if I have to have a crappy battery life, I prefer it in pure AOSP package.

Wether I upgrade or not depends on three things:
MicroSD slot
CPU/GPU combo
mAh.
If it comes without a MicroSD, everything else is irrelevant. I will not buy it. I have a 128GB MicroSD that's completely full with films and series.
Spare me the mentions of the cloud, try living next to the border for a while, or use public transport in a mobile deadzone for 6 hours a day, see if you still think the cloud is an option.
And anyone who mentions that the MicroSD is slow, and how 'amazingly fast' internal memory is: It's not meant for apps, you muppet.
If it does come with a MicroSD slot, then an Exynos is still a no-go for me. Ditto for any mAh rating below or on par with the 3200mAh of my Note 3.

God I hope so... Exynos is pure crap wrapped up in a layer of sheer rubbish. Especially the Mali GPU that comes with it.... I will never buy an Exynos device again.
An S820 would be perfect.
But then there's this.... IF this is true, then anyone buying the Note 5 is an idiot, when the Note 4 is a far superior device that is far less expensive.

My bad, I didn't complete my sentences.
The Note 5 will have Exynos only, the monstrous AnTuTu bench had the name Nexus 5 (2015) in it.

Bummer.
I did spot a report on the S820 being tested, though. Note 6, anyone?

It's bad note 5 doesnt had sd card slot and removeable battery :/

I would rather buy saygus v2.... Then note 5 or s6 edge +...... Samsung going down in mobile....
Its either note 6, or no note user further... Looks like samsung took note users for granted.... Let samsung face it.. Bye bye samsung...

Aparently they're also releasing a dualSIM Note 5 where the second SIMslot doubles as a MicroSD slot. (According to Sammobile). And that's just for China.
I'll keep saying it, chances are we'll see a Note5+ with a Snapdragon 820 and MicroSD slot for Europe once the S820 becomes available.

[Q] will there be a 2015 edition?

So im thinking of replacing my note 4 with this or the 10 inch tab, any chance of a 2015 note tablet? Or am i safe getting a 2014 version
Also how does this compare with a note 4?
My note 4 lags alot (thinking its defective) and i only use it at home as its not my primary phone.
It hasn't been announced, but if it will happen, it'll be at the CES 2015, which starts 2 days from now, from 6-9 january.
There have been no leaks whatsoever, so I rather doubt it. They were working on a 13" device, so perhaps that's the next version. I'd wait until 10 january. If it hasn't been announced by then, it probably won't be any time soon.
Your Note 4 should not lag. Have you tried a factory reset?

Yes, ive tried a reset and eveything else to fix it.
So its best to wait till after CES to buy a note tablet?

Press releases will probably hit today, Monday and Tuesday. But they could wait until Barcelona, that's around the time when they normally announce their new phones, so they might push a tablet announcement out until then.
Id be ok waiting till march, but this is going on my verizon tablet line. And as far as im aware theres usually a gap between the tablets release and when verizon releases their LTE model.
Would be it be unwise to get the pro, and use it till the next one comes out on verizon? (Im estimating a late 2015 release date for the verizon LTE model if they do releas a new tablet)
there is a rumored 10.1 2015 edition that has been spotted in name only so far on some advertising. I had the original Note 10.1 then got the Note 10.1 2014 and was very pleased, the super slow recharge was partial reasoning for me to give it to my gf and then got the Verizon Note 12.2 Pro LTE for the Qualcomm chip that I thought had the quick charge function on the chipset. It does charge pretty fast but for how much I spoent I thought it would have had the Note 4 type Fast Charge. I was able to root the Verizon tablet but future versions after the 4.4.2 exploit will close that loophole. I personally dont understand that they make it so difficult by having a locked bootloader on Verizon. I paid $1000 for the tablet, I want to do whatever I want to it! I love the size vs the 10.1, which feels small now as I have adjust to the bigger screens.
The price point is the issue. In Future, I would just get the WiFi only model as that is usually the version for anything custom (ROMS, recovery, kernel) and are usually widely supported more in my opinion. I'd love to see a Super AMOLED, uses less power, 2k version (whatever the Note 4 specs are) for 12.2 Note Pro. I would love for them to have the fast charge feature just like the NOTE 4, the newer air command of Note 4 vs Note 3/10.1/12.2, Camera improvements passed along, 3 or 4 GB of RAM, larger batteries, thinner bezel. The updated stylus that is more responsive. this is an evolutionary tablet, which I am fine with...

A family member has the 10.5 Tab S, which is a bit newer than the notepro and it even that doesnt have QuickCharge or Usb 3.0
Note pro and Tab S are already 2k/3gb ram, and i dnt see the need for a 4k android tablet.
Im in a contact for a tablet line anyways, so might as well get the LTE model and plus im not a fan of the exynos chips.
Still not sure if if i should get the notepro or wait, i use my note 4 for drawing, multitasking browsing/media/notes/other apps.
I totally agree agree with agree with your observations as well. I was merely speculating what I personally would like to see. I prefer the Qualcomm chips as 805 has the quick charge feature built in. The WiFi Exnoys is getting all the custom support at least in US, as the p905v (has locked bootloader, stupid verizon). If the bootloader was unlocked my opinion would greatly change. I want to see a note version of the tab S, since they finally used a super ambled screen, thus uses less power on lighting up the screen as the black diodes use no power and let's do. Maybe I was meaning 4G of RAM, that is just to keep everything running smoothly. I much prefer the 12.2 screen size over the 10.1 as I have become use to the larger screen size, now the 10.1 seems too small. It all depends on how much you are using it. I suppose I just felt the need to have the next new toy. I do think the USB 3, never got utilized so them going back to USB 2.0 as long as it has the new fast charger adapter, same one as Note 4, thus making things interchangeable. If it must be LTE then so be it.
If you are just getting a hold over tablet for your drawing then I think maybe ok to buy. I was jus a little disappointed especially since I paid 1000 vs say 750 for LTE version of. Verizon.....
My personal wish list is what I was referring to. I'm sorry for hijacking the thread. If money isn't an issue then get note 12.2 pro LTE.....note 10.1 2014 p600 isn't bad either and has custom support, but again. I was on WiFi only versions previous to this p905v, so my knowledge is purely based on my on usage.

I bought a 12.2 lte as soon as it was released here, and I was pretty impressed with the snapdragon performance after several exynos phones and tablets - after lots of tweaking (bye bye touchwiz) extremely satisfied with the performance.
Then came the Note 4 lte. Everything I was expecting - way better than the 12.2 out of the box, and after heavy tweaking (bye bye touchwiz) I'm extremely happy with my Note 4.
So, if you're not happy with a Note 4, you'll hate a 12.2 and should wait for the next generation. When is a 13" Note coming? I want one!

Its not that i dont like the device, just that it freezes and lags a lot And i rather not pay samsung to fix it. The note 4 isnt even my main line, so it doesnt leave the house, i use it as a tablet.
What makes the 12.2 bad?
Like I said, until I got my Note 4 I was really pleased with it. Now I want a 13" with the performance of a Note 4. I was making a subjective comparison that the Note 4 snapdragon performs way better than the older gen Note 12.2 snapdragon, so anyone considering investing so much money may decide to wait and see if there's an announcement next month. ..

I posted in the note 4 xda section, and theyre pretty much telling me my note 4 is defective.
I have 4 options
1) get the note pro
2) buy the tab S of a family member (mostly for the samoled screen)
3) try to get a Certfied Note 4 off verizon
4) buy another note 4
The note 4 was on my line, but i replaced it with an iphone 6+. Right now its just a tablet (it doesnt even have a sim in it.) Let say i get a working a note 4, im still only going to use it at home as a tablet, which is why im thinking of a note tablet.
So my questions to u are
1) Would u say the LCD screen was a disapoiment? Compare to a samoled (is having a samoled screen Tab S really worth giving up the note features)
2) in what way does ur note pro prefor inferior to your note 4?
For example I dont play any games on my note 4
On my note 4 i use it to draw [sketchbookx + spen], youtube 1080p +, videos of my memory card [720p or less Quality], play about 48gbs of music, and a lot of internet browsing. (I actually do all my browsing on it since i hate my iphones browsers/1gb of ram)
i use the multi window feature alot, running several things at once. I also like how they minimize to a bubble if u need to get it out of ur way but dont want to closw it.

Well, the current one was announced in January, released in march. They normally don't deviate from such dates in a lineup.
I suspect a new version simply isn't viable yet.
IFA remains a possibility, but I doubt it.

I think so too, im going to just go for it then (can always return it/get the 2015 devicd)
Thing is people have been telling me the tab s is the better tablet now. Why i do like samoled screen for videos, i cant think of any other reason the Tab S would be better. Especially since the spen gets so much use from me (drawing)

An AMOLED screen has infinite contrast, since black is generated by turning the LEDs off. It also has a higher colour saturation (so more vibrant). For films that's a little prettier. Due to the black=LED Off system, black systems are more power efficient. However, Samsung lost all IQ and decided to implement White menu's on everything, and combined with Google's white Material design in every app it barely makes a difference anymore. Films, even thrillers, are never true black, so in that respect it also makes no difference in battery life.
Sadly, the Tab S doesn't come in 12.2" nor with an Spen.
In terms of internal hardware the Tab S is identical to the Tab Pro and Note Pro.
If there was a Note Pro 2015 and it came with an AMOLED screen, I'd buy that in a heartbeat. But Samsung has already stated that 12.2" AMOLED is far too expensive to produce, and would result in an additional 250 quid ontop of the already hefty pricetag.

Sounds like theyre just being bias then if the internals are identical, and i imagine the note lcd screen isnt too shabby for videos anyways. They were saying you can use a stylus pen on the tab S but its just not the same. Think ill go for the Note Tablet.
Its more likely the next 10.1 note would carry the AMOLED than the Pro or maybe even a new AMOLED Note 8.0.

You can use a regular stylus with a rubber tip on a Tab S, yes. But an Spen isn't a regular stylus, so it isn't pressure sensitive, has no button, no action menu and no interactions.
If you draw a lot on it, nothing beats an Spen. I tried drawing with a regular stylus but it's just not the same. No pressure sensitivity whatsoever.
I quite enjoy watching films on this thing. On the main homescreen it looks like you can see the screen pattern, but in films, games, etc the thing is perfectly crisp. Very enjoyable
Yes Indeed. I do suspect the Note 10.1 2015 may come with an AMOLED screen. But not anything over 10.5".

I can't live without the S pen either. I use the note 4 as my main phone. The problem is mine is LTE and AT&T is going to make me wait 60 days till they give me the unlock code for a new device. Since I travel a lot I don't know if I could deal with that again

[Q] Which is more future proof S5, Z2, G3, Note3, or Zenfone2 ?

Hi all
I want to buy an android phone and its not my first one i had SXP neo L before along time ago
Im a student and the best devices that i can afford are SXP Z2 , Galaxy S5 , LG G3 32GB , Galaxy Note 3 N9005 (snapdargon version) , Zenfone 2 (4gb ram 2.3 ghz version)
these devices are all great pros and cons problems they all have one but i want a device with a fair developement status and i want to keep it for 2 years i want a device which will work properly for 2 years until i upgrade
(before you answer you have to know i play games alot i want to watch movies i scan documents with my phone so camera is important)
can someone explain to me briefly which device is more future proof ? (is 64bit hardware important in my case ? is more than 2gb ram necessary for me?)
which device i can sell with higher price between these (after 2 years) ?
if your overall choice is S5 which version ? Exynos Octa or Snapdragon ?
Thank you , I would appreciate any comment.
(if you have other suggestions feel free to leave a comment like other devices ,Nexus 5 ...)
Save up your money and get the note 4. You won't be disappointed. The gear vr is the coolest gaming I've ever done. The S5 is a good choice as well.
Sent from my SM-G925T using XDA Free mobile app
As an S5 owner who's extensively used the G3 and Note 3, I recommend either the G3 or Note 3. The G3, in the shortest amount of words possible in my opinion, is an S5 with a better Android skin.
I think, for someone who wants to use their phone for videos and other multimedia applications, the Note 3 is definitely your best option due to the screen size, which also
allows for more processing and battery power.
That said, if you're interested in being able to mod your phone in a fashion that doesn't make you bend over backwards in order to do it, stay away from the Samsungs.
With regards to "futureproofing," if you really want a phone that will hold its value over time, buy an iPhone. All of these flagships will likely be supported by their mfgs for a couple years after their release. Each will get at least Android M, albeit up to 6-7 months after its release (LG is usually better about quick updates than Samsung). I have no experience with the Zenfone, unfortunately.
According to your choices I would suggest you to go for G3 . I have my hands on G3, S5, Note 3 and I like G3 because of its performance and camera clarity, Note 3 is also good. But my overall experience was good with G3.

Note 5, no micro SD, so what's the alternative?

Am hoping this is not a DUP post,
With the details recently been released, the note 5 has no micro SD storage.
Am wondering what you fellow note users are considering as the best upgrade?
I love the note series, I love the size an the power of the device.
With no additional storage, this is a deal breaker for me.
My upgrade is due in a couple of months.
Just interested on your thoughts on possible alternative devices you may be considering.
I don't know of the S series of Samsung is enough of a replacement.
The note 3, may be the last of the Samsung series for me.
Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk
Believe me, there is NO alternative of Note series. When a person gets used with Note series nothing can impress or make them happy any more.
So you either get the Note 5 or stick with your Note 3, or maybe get a Note 4, it's still a great phone.
We don't have any contract stuffs here but I like to update every one year or so, and I am really confused too. Was hellbent that Note 5 would be my upgrade, but now after seeing it I am doubtful that I will upgrade to it. I mean no SD card is no big deal for me, nor is the non-removable battery, but same screen size and smaller battery capacity is weird! But maybe after a couple of months or so I will eventually end up with buying it, simple because there is no device in this planet which could come even remotely close to a Note
What the heck is Sony and HTC doing for all this long for God's sake!
I am due for upgrade...but no SD card ....deal breaker....as I bring media on the road....maybe going for huawei p8 Max....a giant 6.8inch pH.

But removing the Micro SD slot is stupid, what where they thinking.
Also lack of usb3.

there is note 5 thread by the way note edge is so much better than s6 edge + note 4 more better than note 4
I would not upgrade to the Note 4, I don't see this as a viable upgrade.
I may have to bite the bullet, find a device with the same size screen an similar hardware specs.
Its just going to be a challenge to drop the S pen.
The edge was a close competitor, need to go onto a store to have a play an feel.

I'm thinking of getting a Note 4 off of Craigs, if I can find one for "reasonable." Then wait and see if Samsung sees the error of its ways next year for the next Note. Also, a Samsung rep pointed out to me that there's a Mophie case for the S6 that the phone connects to when you put it in. The case has a slot for a microSD card and, from what I understand, an extended battery. They may make one for the Note 5. No telling how big and heavy that would be.
I talked to a tech at the Sprint store, as I was wondering how you get out of a boot loop, should one happen. Apparently for the S6, there's some key combination that's supposed to work like a battery pull. I assume they have something like that for the Note 5.
I think I'll wait to see what people are saying before I decide for sure what to do. Both developers, techs and users. They did tell me at the Sprint store they will have the Note 5 for Samsung's announced date: August 21st. They are already receiving accessories for the phone.
The Note 5 isn't being released in Europe, at any rate.
Well, if you can settle for not having AMOLED and not having an Spen, the upcoming LG G4 Pro is the device the Note 5 should have been. Snapdragon 820, 5.8" 2K, 4GB RAM, MicroSD, IR blaster, FM Radio, removable battery. (not confirmed specs, but the rumours are pretty solid.)
Though frankly, I'm expecting a Note 5+ around March/April. Samsung amended their statement pretty quickly to "Not releasing it in europe this year, will release when individual markets provide a favourable moment".
The EU/International variant of the Note has always been the Snapdragon model, due to its strength and its more powerful GPU. Exynos models have always been lower-market models. The current Snapdragon CPU had too many issues, and the 820 wasn't ready in time for a pre-iPhone release. Given that they released an S6 Edge+ alongside the Note 5 makes me suspect a Note 5+ to be released alongside the S7.
Personally I'm sticking with my Note 3. If it dies, Note 4 will be its replacement. But I will A, never buy a device without a MicroSD, B, never buy a device with an Exynos, and C, live in Europe.

Largely i´ll have to agree. On the MSD-slot though: If we get a 128 GB option i´d probably surrender. If i understand the issue correctly, the on-board ram is much faster. The current N5 setup: Not a chance. One thing i don´t completely understand: Every time we get a new phone on the market with sd-slot, the on-board ram is always on the small side. The best i´ve seen so far was 32 Gigs. Is it just to keep retail prices down? It almost feels like a "Holy cow". To me this sounds like a situation where we could actually have our cookie and eat it too (Provided of course we were willing to pay for it

You're spot on about keeping the retail prices down. It's mainly because most people aren't paying 100 quid for 32GB extra when you can get a 128GB MicroSD for 66 quid. Consumers aren't that stupid. (Well, most of them aren't.)
I mean, take the Note 4. €599 for the 32GB model, + €66 for a 128GB MicroSD = €665. The 64GB model costs €699. If you buy the first, that leaves you €34 to spend on a really nice case, screenprotector or extra battery. Or two 64GB MicroSD's. (MediaMarkt sold a pack of 2x64GB+adapters for €32 last week.)
You'd have to be pretty bonkers to consider the 64GB edition that way. (I did consider it, and yes, I'm officially mad as a hatter. But unfortunately they never actually produced the 64GB edition of the Note 3.) A 128GB edition would cost over 1000 euros, which would scare people off.
Not to mention, if you keep your apps internal, and your media external (which is safest in the event of a hardware defect, freeze, crash or drop, too), 32GB is more than sufficient. I have 523 apps, of which over 100 games, and still 5GB free internal space.
And then there's MTP. Transferring an average 1080p film of 25GB takes 5 minutes via a MicroSD adapter. It takes 3 hours over MTP, and craps out halfway because the protocol crashes.
The real issue is that a lot of people are idiots. Yes, the onboard storage is faster in its new format. That's entirely true. Aparently, a MicroSD slows things down when apps are put on them.
Which is the problem: people have forgotten that MicroSD's are for MEDIA. It is entirely irrelevant how fast the internal memory is compared to the MicroSD. That film isn't going to play any faster than 25fps. (Rant aimed at the people who use that as an argument. Not at you xD)
And Samsung has forgotten that the average 1080p film is 25GB. How, exactly, do they suggest I put that on a 32GB device that is already housing 8GB worth of bloatware?
I have two 128GB MicroSD's filled to the brim with films, series, comics, magazines and books that I swap around as I need them. Even a 256GB device would not be sufficient for my needs. Overkill? Maybe. I have to travel on public transport for 6 hours a day, 5.5 of which are in a mobile deadzone. (So no cloud, if that was even useful with maximum data subscriptions of 12GB to begin with. That's half a film.)

LOL! An LG compared with any Samsung is nothing but a joke, utter joke. Sorry if some LG fanboy gets butthurt here, but speaking from a purely personal experience with G3, and the Nexus 5 too.
Biggest shame a Note device could have by being compared with some hotchpotch LG!

Oh I quite agree. The G4 barely lasts 2 hours with the screen on, 6 with the screen off. Sure, it has a fancy camera, but if I want to take fancy pictures, I'll bring my EOS 70D.
I was just suggesting options. In terms of pure technical specs, the G4 Pro looks to be everything we'd hoped the Note 5 would be. The fact that LG usually screws up their phones (Though nowhere near as bad as HTC seems to be doing these days) has little to do with the core specs.
What's your opinion of Motorola's Nexus 6? Now that Android natively supports MicroSD, and the N6 had an AMOLED screen, the next Nexus may very well be a serious contender.

Haven't had the chance to play with it yet, sadly. They're pretty much impossible to come by in the Netherlands.
Also, I'm a little hesitant when it comes to mobile devices from Asus after the I/O issues that plagued every Transformer(Including my TF700T) for years. (in terms of laptops there's none better, don't get me wrong.)
Note 5 = best screen + best camera in a premium device + spen and good battery life and wireless charging endless list of sensors etc etc
Seriously people still b**ching about it ???
As for the LG G4, its n aweaome phone
the battery is better than my note 3 and it got amazing camera screen and speed. Why trolling ??? 4 hours standby = faulty battery, I can easily get 4 hours screen on with continuous gaming, Web surfing video playback and chatting ..... it's my travelling phone mostly cuz of the battery and camera.

I like Motorola actually, but the Moto X 2013 I used had an awful display, I mean I don't know how poor a display could be! So that gives me some scary thing when its about Motorola, but still Nexus 6 is a good phone.
AMOLED panel doesn't matter really. I need to know which generation AMOLED panel it is, the older AMOLED panels are nowhere near as good as current generations' S-AMOLED panels. Also how is the reception thing going on with Motorola? I remember not getting reception in places with my X 2013 where I receive more than decent reception with other phones, that's very serious for me.
Damn if the Note 5 came out with a display around 5.9" I would be all over it. I don't care about the external SD thing at all, and I hope regardless of its smaller capacity battery it will still be better than Note 3 in endurance.

Yeah awesome phone when compared with the likes of OnePlus One or some Xiaomi nonsense, its not even in the same league with any Samsung flagship for God's sake! Brilliant display? Yeah sure, when 8000+ Kelvins is counted as brilliant, it sure the heck is!
The Note 5 was a complete let-down. The three things it removed are the things I used/appreciated most:
- IR blaster
- Removable battery
- Expandable memory
So, after four generations of Note owning (I bought the Note 1 a week after it launched), I will be leaving Sammy.
If you slapped down a Note 4 and a Note 5 on the table right in front of me right now, I'd pay more money for the Note 4.
Here's hoping they revert to their former prestige. Until then, LG Pro 4? I think I have to.
If the Note 5 has OTG support it's oke but clouddrives like Mega can replace SD for most of the time.
The almost no-go to the Note 5 for me is the glass backside. It really anoys me that samsung didn't continue the fake leather backside. I really love it compair to a glass. Now I really need a case.
Unfortunally I have to import the Note 5 because it will not be available in Europe(at least not in the first period).
Please sign the appeal to bring the Note 5 to Europe:

Worth Upgrading? S5 to Honor 8

I have had a galaxy s5 for 2 years, and noticed over time things have become slow.
With multple apps I had to use some tools to get these to run from the SD card VIA app.
Seems that 16 GB of room isnt that much when you keep adding (some apps take up 2 GB)
I am also enjoy custom rom, recovery, root.
Here is my concerns:
Stats on the S5 look better on paper then the Honor 8:
Higher camera MP, Higher video resolution, faster processor, S5 has a few more senstors.
Gaming on Honor 8:
Heard some comparisons that with the processor that gaming is slow for higher end games.
I know right now games like injustice DC on my S5 are slow at times.
Comparison:
Is it better off waiting for an S7 (if I can get it unlocked bootloader) or going with an Honor 8 ?
I hate going with the main stream. I dont mind Samsung phones, but observations tell me Huawei are really good too.
I will post if I think of any other concerns,
Its not every day I drop 400$ on a phone, just want to make sure I make the right choice.
Thank you
If you like to flash custom roms and Play with you rooted phone all around staying on S5 will be better choice. If you need a great quality camera and you are ok with what you get out of the box then you can go for Honor 8.
Currently I can see that there is not much development for Custom ROM for Honor 8. However we are expecting it to happen soon.

My s5 is limited , mostly due to room on phone.
Using Safestrap for recovery.
And the rom is stock with root.
I do see some development, but not much as you have said.
Reason I am looking now is because you can get one on black friday for 100$ off so would set the 64 GB model at 350$
I'll preface this by saying you may want to look at the One Plus 3T. It has a beefier GPU than the Honor 8 and can record 4K video, but no SD card slot. The 64GB version is $440 the 128GB version is $480. The Honor 8's 64GB version is $450. I had a low end Samsung Galaxy Avant I upgraded from with 16GB of storage and used root+Link2SD and a 64GB SD card to store games and apps. I had ~7GB free on the internal storage and 30GB free on the SD card. On my 32GB Honor 8 I have 15GB free internally and about 30GB free on the same SD card. So consider how that may fit with your particular storage needs. Either option is more than $400 but probably still a lot less than even a refurbished S7, so it seems reasonable to me.
The paper stats are misleading.
Pure camera MP doesn't mean a whole lot. I have only seen S7 to Honor 8 camera comparisons, but they were generally considered evenly matched in daylight with the S7 having more saturated colors and the Honor 8 having better detail. In low light the S7 was generally better. And the S7 can record 4K video while the Honor 8 cannot. I haven't seen any direct comparisons between the Honor 8 and S7 with the S5 and don't really want to read S6 reviews to see how it compares to the S5 and then read S7 reviews to see how it compares to the S6 and try to guess from there.
The Honor 8's Kirin 950 4x 2.3 Ghz A72 cores + 4x 1.8 Ghz A53s will be across the board faster than the S5's 4x 2.5 Ghz Krait cores. App loading time, scrolling, etc will all be better on the Honor 8. Like I said I haven't seen any direct comparisons to the S5, but the GPU should be maybe ~30% faster? I mostly play emulators on my phone, so I couldn't tell you how GTA or Need for Speed run on the Honor 8 from first hand experience. I'd consider the OP3T if you want high end games to run super smooth.
The Honor 8's a really nice phone and the Nougat beta that just went out added the App drawer and improved notification shade with EMUI 5.0 which was something a lot of people hated about the phone's software.
I have looked at the One Plus 3 and what turned me off was the no micro SD.
Have also looked at the LeEco Le Pro3 Ecophone, and that is limited to 64 internal and no SD.
The One Plus3T does look nice, but cost wise wonder if the LeEco would be better option at 300$ Black friday.. If I can figure out how to live without external storage.
One of the external storage issues is I use Titanium backup as well as nandroid backups, not sure where I would put those.

I'm on the same boat. Wanting to go from my S5 exynos version (which doesnt have much development anyway) to Honor 8 (Kirin again do not have much development). What makes me compare both are are both having great camera, IR blaster and SD card and about 5.1 to 5.2" size (my comfort zone). These 4 are absolute necessary features for me. Now, my only question is whether the Camera on Honor 8 is indeed better than S5 in every situation? Are the colors richer... HDR better? Can someone help me decide. I have already placed an order from Amazon (with a friend of mine) for just $260 for the 32 GB variant which I can cancel if if necessary. Please help me decide.
Really no comparison. At $260 its well worth to upgrade from an S5
I was using an S5 also for a few years. This is a great phone, if I have any complaints it's with EMUI 4, but I hear that 5 is light years better. If you are worried about the camera, don't be if you are used to the S5 camera. It's a lot better.

I ended up buying it on the black friday sales. With some extras.
So far it is very fast.
I do have a few issues with the EMUI 4, such as no app drawer.
So ended up loading a custom launcher ( Nova) and now just getting it all in place and the way I like it is going to take some time.
Thanks for all the suggestions.

I just bought one on Friday as well. Got a 64 GB for $227 on Jet.com. I was really wanting a OnePlus 3 or 3T but $227 for the honor 8 was a steal. I just got it yesterday and haven't opened it yet because I am still deciding if I want to keep it or send it back and hold onto my LG G3 a bit longer.

Been on Sony(ericcson) for almost a decade and after viewing the EMUI 5.0 Nougat video on XDA i made up my decision on BlackFriday sales to go for honor 8 with lots of goodies,, (will get my phone next month as someone else bought it from me) well lets see how it goes.,
Same here, come from S5 with Cyanogenmod
But now i´m very happy with the honor.
good camera, much faster and root is no problem.

[Q] Phone choice: Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge vs Huawei Mate 10 lite

Dear Community,
I have been using a Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge for the past two years without any significant issues, apart from a defective screen which got replaced and is now pink-ish near the bottom, and a noisy camera when focusing. Generally I like the device quite a bit, despite it being not officially supported under Android 8 Oreo. The only relatively significant drawback for me is the lack of a microSD card slot - my version is the 32GB one and is almost always out of enough (3-5GB) free space (this, of course, is largely my fault ).
I got a new Huawei Mate 10 lite as a present past week. The 64GB version with 4GB of RAM.
I am now in doubt whether I should upgrade to the newer (but cheaper and bigger) phone or stick with the SGS6 Edge I already like and feel as enough for my current and future (1-3 year) needs. Unfortunately I am afraid that I would have to choose only one of those devices, so any opinions, questions and advice are welcome.
This is the GSMarena comparison of the phones, and the photo quality comparison.
Thanks in advance!
Kind regards,
Nikolay
