USB OTG not working - Moto G 2015 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone tried using OTG?
I have this device: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00RBGYGPG
I use it everyday in my Moto G 2nd generation.
Moto G 3rd generation doesn't recognize it.
I tried another flash drive with an OTG cable, it also did not work.
Does anyone have any clues? I'm using the 16GB/2GB model.

I have two USB OTG devices and both work fine.
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

I have a cheap ebay adapter that works with all my devices. No problems with moto g.

I'm typing this with a USB keyboard plugged in to an OTG adapter.

The Moto G 2nd Generation uses the MSM8926 chipset that might have the voltage required to support USB 3.0 devices. My theory is that the MSM8916 chipset does not have the required voltage to support USB 3.0 devices through OTG.
To rule this out try testing other USB 3.0 accessories on the Moto G 3rd Generation through OTG.

USB otg not working in new moto g3
I bought a new Kingston micro duo USB otg 3.0 32 gb... Wished it so much...but when I got, g3 won't read it. Used es file explorer and otg explorer apps. But no help. In es USB shows and then goes off. If I time it and click, it opens but again umounts.
Heard its chipset can't support 3.0 due to low voltage output. G3 is a loss if it can't read. But same USB otg 3.0 was read by yureka phone without any fuss.
Please help....

It might work after all our final motto is to power our USB Hub/Pendrive Test it and update your results here :good:
Maybe we didn't need usb hub to power anymore if kernel dev manage to undervolt cpu/gpu voltage then make the voltage to supplying in micro usb port. I think it will work, but it's just my idea, because cpu/gpu can be undervolt so why not give the rest volt to usb port to make otg works. Btw, it's just my idea, and actually idk how much voltage needed for otg..
Btw thank you very much for the OP to make the OTG Guide. Will update the index threads soon if I'm on my pc.

You are right if we could under volt and supply the reqd voltage to the pen drive then we don't need these methods to run but for the time being this method works flawlessly. Welcome :highfive:

Which kernel or kernels support USB otg for Nexus 5 kitkat 4.4.2?
Franco do quite well.
I use this kernel and has no mention of USB OTG support that i seen.however i use a Sony 16g micro USB Flash drive with Stickmount ,Root explorer and works really well

I know that CM supports USB OTG by default without the need to flash another kernel or use stickmount app. And also it charges the phone when I connect my usb 3.0 HDD with additional power to the USB. But why can't other ROM developers implement this option?

I've read the entire Franco thread for both the N5&10 and never read of anyone bricking their phone due to that kernel.
I use rooted stock with Franco r34 on both my N5&10 and OTG works well with the aforementioned stickmount and USB OTG Helper.

That's because you can't brick with a kernel unless:
1) You flashed it wrong (disconnected power through flash or something)
2) You flashed the wrong kernel for your device and perhaps supplied too much voltage to hardware.

Those are just app updates Chris, you'd have to check the apps logs to see whats new.
For like my first few weeks of building I was using a vm and kept running into errors related to 'hardware'. Got really frustrated with that so I made a partition with elementary OS Luna which is based off Ubuntu 12.04.
I was having all the qcom errors in the beginning of trying to build it. First off did you sync aospa's main branch for nexus devices, or aospa legacy? And then which msm8960-common are you using? I accidentally have both cm's and aospa's in my device tree and them every time I build I manually edit cm's out.
Sounds like you got it figured out for the most part but you're about at the stage where stuff gets frustrating. Unless you feel uncomfortable, you should pm via hangouts, I sent you a message with my email.

Hey Chris, I've had a ton of ADB issues in the past, and I found that using a freeware program called USB DeView (assuming you're on Windows) to fix up your assignments can fix it easily. There's definitely some trial and error involved, but here is a decent guide I found that goes over the program: https://www.topnotchtablets.com/FixUSBproblems
It's also mentioned numerous times around XDA, and honestly it's the only thing that's ever worked for me.
Also, check your PM, I'd like you to clean flash the latest build I have and see if the 'Soft reboot on Force Closing 3rd-party apps' is still happening, because I'm not entirely sure what you mean when you say that, and I can't see anything obvious in the logcat, but I can force close anything from within the Android Settings and it works fine with this build
Hey cryptecks.. I would like to thank u for the link..I'm running it now and its smooth. One question though..what's beat APN ? Att phone or att pta?

Above post pertains to PC recognizing phone
Sent from my One X using Tapatalk
I don't have those options above on either my tablet (running official PA) or my phone (running my PA build) and my three computers all recognize them both and can adb as much as I want.
The problem is definitely in your computer, drivers, and/or USB cable/port (on PC), unless I hear from quite a few more people. Did you try USB Deview?
Sent from my One X using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I'm afraid of that deview.. Lol
Sent from my One X using Tapatalk
---------- Post added at 08:09 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:08 AM ----------
I've also noticed when I have unofficial twrp it does this. Which I am on now. The official doesn't do this
Sent from my One X using Tapatalk
Deview is going to solve the problem for you, not the ROM, because I haven't heard it from any other testers, which pretty much means it's something to do with your setup.
In better news! I plan on posting my first build up in a couple of hours, and for those of you who are testing, here is the projected changelog from the "test build" you guys all had:
- Charging LED works! (I pretty much refused to release a build to the public without this working because I rely on it myself so heavily)
- LTE select-able properly through Settings > Mobile Networks
- (Still waiting on the build to finish to test, but SHOULD BE) PA's built-in Lightbulb app, tile, and widget are fixed.
How's it going so far?
Sent from my KFSOWI using Tapatalk
---------- Post added at 07:40 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:39 PM ----------
Is charge light pertaining to this or beta 7?
Sent from my KFSOWI using Tapatalk
The build that is currently compiling is the changelog I was mentioning, in comparison to the beta that I sent to you and others. I'll post it as soon as it's done, can't give an exact ETA but it will be tonight.
Oh. I wasn't asking for an eta..I was asking if the charging light is for this or beta7
Sent from my KFSOWI using Tapatalk
Gotcha, well I had actually jumped ahead (incorrectly) of PA. The build tonight will be synced properly with PA's build 4.2 - Beta 1, notice that they've bumped from 4.0 to 4.1 with varying amounts of betas and now they're on 4.2.
This will make a lot more sense when I get on the same release schedule as PA, which they just switched to having new builds out on Monday nights. Tonight it seems like I'll be at Beta 1 with PA still having not released b2 yet tonight. If there's anything awesome then I'll build a beta 2, but expect to see Beta 3 next Tuesday morning (April fools haha).
Hope that all makes sense!

USB Mass Storage
Device will not connect via usb to my computer or laptop both windows 8.1, tried media transfer as well as file transfer.......connect mass storage just spins it's little circle for ages but does nothing. When first plugged in, my pc prompted a restart, which i did. I then could see the drive but when i try to open it I get a message prompting me to plug in a drive although the device is still connected.
Is this a Known bug with lollipop because i had the same problem with CM12. will now try liquidsmooth.
when connected as (MTP) media device, my pc picks the device up but will not copy anything. All i get is "device has been either been disconnected or has stopped responding".

On flashing the ROM i get "mount: failed to mount /dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc. 1/by-name/userdata at /data: Device or resource busy script succeeded: result was [0.200000]" just before it grants me success. I am using TWRP v2.8.1.0

Try an USB 2.0 port. Something must be wrong with your drivers as I don't have such issues on any Lollipop ROM Ive tried

So... what's AICP? From Googling, I see that it stands for Android IceCold Project. But what does it do? What does it add? Anything noticeable?

Uhhh, I never said I was ungrateful. I'm simply asking what this ROM has that the other CM12 ROM doesn't. I'm not going to flash it just to see, when there are obviously people who already flashed it. This is a forum discussing ROMs, and this thread is a discussing this ROM. I can ask questions if I please, stop pretending to be some white knight for the developers.

And I was asking about the development of this ROM.

Paranoid Android 7.2.1 proximity sensor issue

I have flashed Paranoid Android 7.2.1 on my OnePlus One and I'm enjoying the build very much.
But flashing PA seems to have broken the proximity sensor. When a call comes in, the screen doesn't turn off.
I ran some diagnostic utilities and non of them discovers the proximity sensor.
I have been searching through the internet for a solution but failed to find a working fix.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
It's a known issue, it has been reported to the developers. Hopefully it will be fixed in the next release.
I am not able to get it working, after installing my phone is stuck at OnePlus logo... Please help me
Flash the "Frankenstein firmware", issue will be solve : https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/general/firmware-modem-oneplus-one-lollipop-t3300907

i am stuck at oneplus logo for nearly 5 min now,....

Solution for what, proximity sensor? Or,having issues flashing PA? As for proximity sensor,it works fine with that firmware by MrSHME.If it is with PA,which build you've downloaded?

@Mr.Ak i flashed the firmware but it doesnot solve the proximity issue. Screen is still on while on call. I dont think firmware should help in sensor issues. I may be wrong.

Yes,everything. Don't know,PA team found f2fs unstable and placebo though,I think f2fs work fine on their OP3/3T build of PA.
I tried to use Paranoid Android but face following issues. Pls let me know if you ppl have some suggestions...
1. Phone suddenly drops to 0% and becomes dead
2. Phone heats up (really hot) while put on charge..
So I had to go back to Lineage where my device is quite stable. But I personally liked Paranoid. Pls reply back if you have some suggestions
