Could someone please clarify 100% if these 2 models are identical enough to flash ROMs or kernels intended for either device on one another??
Sent from my SM-G920I using XDA Premium HD app
They have different radios thus they are not compatible.
But customs ROMS don't effect radios......and I'm pretty sure a custom kernel doesn't flash radio either.....
Sent from my SM-G920I using XDA Premium HD app
can't one just flash the radio of 920i onto a 920F rom?
Anyone know can i flash UK BTU firmware with Odin to debrand G920F that is branded on T-Mobile in Croatia, without triping Knox or losing warranty?
Current CSC is CRO, DHR.

Bit light on the details as to why they're not compatible, don't you think? A properly researched and verbose explanation can help many others, not just one person!
As far as my understanding of the hardwares in both the 920/925F and 920/925I devices, they are indeed identical. Only difference between both variants is firmware, and how the SoC's LTE processor on each device can connect to different mobile service provider network bandwidths (on GPRS, EDGE, UMTS, HSDPA, HSUPA, HSPA+, LTE, LTE-A). According to the spec. sheets on pdadb.net, there is only a small discrepancy with what mobile bandwidths each device can connect to which the other cannot, as follows:
920/925(F) - can connect to LTE800 (B20)
920/925(I) - can connect to UMTS1700/2100 (B4), LTE700 (B28)
BOTH devices are also capable of communicating on the following bandwidths:
GSM850, GSM900, GSM1800, GSM1900, UMTS850 (B5), UMTS900 (B8), UMTS1900 (B2), UMTS2100 (B1), LTE2100 (B1), LTE700 (B17), LTE850 (B5), LTE1700/2100 (B4), LTE1800 (B3), LTE2600 (B7), LTE1900 (B2), LTE800 (B18), LTE900 (B8), LTE700 (B12), LTE800 (B26), LTE800 (B19)
These differences lead me to surmise that the stock OEM firmware for each device has different modem.bin files, ie: the files which tell the LTE chip how to communicate on certain bandwidths. Why would Samsung build two devices that are identical in every way, except for a very small section of the very same Exynos 7420 SoC? This leads me to believe that all a 920/925I user need do to run a ROM cooked with 920/925F base code is flash in a 920/925I modem once they're up and running, and the 'radio' libraries will be updated for your 920/925I to work on the UMTS1700/2100 (B4) and LTE700 (B28) bandwidths. Only way you'll know for sure is to try that solution - which has worked for me on my 920I - because everything about each stock firmware is pretty much the same except for region specific bloatware and Country Sales Codes that control how the device connects to the MSP's in it's home region.
Only thing to be careful of? DO NOT put a 920 ROM on a 925, or vice versa!
If you would like to see what bandwidths your exact model variant SM-G920(?) runs on out-of-the-box, then visit SamMobile's thread on the subject here:
http://www.sammobile.com/forum/showthread.php?t=26440
Hope that helps...
so basically what I asked is correct. We, the users of "i" variants, can flash an F rom + and I modem?

You can, but do not untick/tick any other options in Odin incase it can damage your knox status. This will not void knox since you are flashing official stock ROM

Thanks, i did it and everything went fine, Knox is still 0x0. . I flashed custom ROMs many times but never knew that flashing official FW with Odin wouldn't trip Knox.

If the bandwidth your mobile network provider broadcasts on is supported by BOTH devices, go right ahead. Thing is, the most important thing to check with putting one variant ROM on another variant is the chipsets. Without jumping around like I did yesterday and comparing all the variants, I can't be too sure if all 920's run the same Exynos 7420 SoC. This means that if Model A and Model B don't have the same chipsets then DON'T flash the other ROM. I already knew that the 920/925F and 920/925I share the same internals, but can't be certain about other models.
As for running ROMs between 'F' and 'I'? Just make sure if you've got an 'F' and want to flash in an 'I' 'ROM, your device may not work on the the LTE800 (B20) band. If you have an 'I' and want to run an 'F' ROM, check to see if your mobile network isn't UMTS1700/2100 (B4) or LTE700 (B28), because you may have difficulty connecting to it.
Don't concern yourself too much with tripping Knox and 'rooting' your phone. The debate has been going for a few years now, so I won't go into it here except to say unless you have the device on a service contract with your provider, Knox isn't exactly needed for the thing to run smoothly. Then, if you don't expressly need the feature for your work or business, you can rid yourself of what is essentially a bottleneck to you getting the best out of your device. I rooted my 920I the very day I bought it outright brand new back in May last year, and haven't had a single hardware related fault with it since. If you look after it, make wise choices about ROMs and do your research before making firmware changes, you should never need warranty repair inside the first 12 months of ownership - therefore making the decision to 'trip' a wise move.
Back to swapping ROMs, there is of course a workaround to any discrepancies with service provider bandwidth support. You will need to extract the modem.bin file from the stock firmware for your exact model variant in order to make your device connect to your provider. Pretty simple task really, and the fastest way to download stock firmwares is with the brilliant SamFirm tool. Visit the awesome zxz0O0's thread for more details…
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/general/tool-samfirm-samsung-firmware-t2988647
Just be careful doing the modem.bin swap. From what I've read, you have to use the same firmware revision modem.bin as the ROM you've flashed in, ie: 5.1.1 has to go into 5.1.1, something to do with RIL libraries compatibility. Me? I'm hoping to put MM on my 920I but until I find a model that's got an official 6.0.1 stock release which includes support for LTE700(28), I'm reticent to try it as I can't afford to brick my phone if the experiment fails.
I will leave then by asking if anyone out there tries to slot a 5.1.1 modem.bin into a 6.0.1 stock and it works, could they let us over at the Australian 920/925I Help thread know?
Cheers, and I hope I've been of some assistance to you...

Can any one try flashing tmobile firmware baseband on the d6633.T-Mobile uses bands 2, 4, and 12*as listed here; 4 is the most widely used band for them. The D6616 model, which is the one specifically for T-Mobile, supports these bands. 12 is the newest band and possibly the least used. There are many phones already on T-Mobile that don't support band 12 because it's the band they recently acquired from Verizon.
I could be wrong but this seems like a recipe for DISASTER.
I agree, its probably not a good idea.
Actually I've flashed d6633 firmwares from all over the world on a d6633 just want those t-mobile 700 band fq on the 6633!
Flashing firmwares from the same model is one thing but a different sub model is generally not a great idea.
If you have a D6633 why don't you contribute to the community and try this yourself?

With se1000 on this, if you are so confident that it has worked for you in that past. Get the phone and flash it, then report back
Flashing another models firmware does nothing to add/remove bands. There is a thread somewhere on XDA about enabling additional bands for devices utilizing Qualcomm chips but root and unlocked bootloader are required.
Does anyone know if it is possible to flash the G935W8 firmware on the G935F? The reason I ask is because I really want band 30. Both of these devices are Exynos, the only difference is the G935W8 has more bands.
Hey Guys!
So I have just gotten an S7 (930S) and apparently, there is a mismatch between the bands present in the phone and the one offered by my network. I would like to know if I flash 930F modem on my phone would that be ok or not? I just want to flash the modem as well as the CSC of the 930F model. I hope someone can take the timeout to reply to my query.
Thanks

Yes you can, hardware is the same. However when you talk about network bands I assume your talking about the difference between networks using GSM and networks using CDMA? In which case you need to flash firmware which uses CDMA radios.

Well, when I am talking about Bands I am talking about the frequencies in which they operate. For example, my network offers the UMTS 900 frequency, but that frequency is missing from my current modem.
Therefore, I am assuming that if I flash the 930F model's modem, which does supoort the UMTS 900 frequency, I will be able to operate on the UMTS 900 frequency. Can you confirm me on that?
Or will I have to flash the 930F firmware on my phone to operate on the UMTS 900 frequency?
Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
Yes 930F will work and install the radios you require.
The problem I am facing right now is that although the modem (Shannon335) on my phone (G930S - Korean) is the same as that on the international model (930F). But my phone (G930S) does not support one of the bands that my network supports which is UMTS 900 and that band is supported on the international version , although hardware wise (both are Shannon335) they are both the same.
So, I was thinking if i change my modem, currently its a South Korean modem and flash the international version modem could it work and make the band work for me?

Thank You very much.
I would also like to know how should I choose and which modem to flash on my phone. Which things should I match and what to avoid during the flashing process. I have currently U1 security level modem, so when I flash another modem should it be U1 level as well?

To avoid problems you must match the modem to the version of firmware you are using, so yes U1 to U1. Flash the modem separately via Odin
Hello,
I purchased my galaxy watch 4 from Amazon US, and when I wanted to install esim from local carrier in Israel I was told that the phone is not supported (they asked my IMEI and Eid and tried to register the watch on their side). I looked up and I can see that the band support in the US differs from the one in Israel- you can see the screenshots I made from the Samsung US site and the Samsung IL site.
Is there a way to modify the watch region in order for it to work under IL LTE bands? or does Samsung manufacture unique hardware for each region?
Thanx in advance

Hello all,
I lived in Germany for a while and bought a S22 Ultra (CSC code EUX).
I moved back to South Africa and Samsung Pay is not working "Samsung Pay isn't available on your phone".
My plan is to change my CSC to South Africa by flashing the device, but the problem is I cannot find the South African firmware (CSC code) for my Model Number.
Model number is SM-S908B/DS.
I can only see South African CSC Firmware (XFA or XFE) for model number SM-S908E.
If I use this firmware, will I brick the phone?

You can use SamFW tool to change CSC to XFA/XFE, as it's available in S908B firmware. However, you wont't receive any OTA updates due to South African devices being S908E. You need to flash via Odin every updates of S908B (CSC and data will be kept). You can't flash S908E firmware, it's not compatible.

The reason for this is initially, Samsung intended to use Exynos (B model) for more regions (including SA), but then decided to switch to Snapdragon. Hence the presence of SA CSC in Exynos firmwares, and future OTA updates not being released for S908B XFA/XFE.
However, manually flashing each full update (around 8 to 9GB) each month is probably bad for device's flash memory. So I recommend selling your device and buy a South African S908E.
