Flashing Another Model's Modem ? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

Hey Guys!
So I have just gotten an S7 (930S) and apparently, there is a mismatch between the bands present in the phone and the one offered by my network. I would like to know if I flash 930F modem on my phone would that be ok or not? I just want to flash the modem as well as the CSC of the 930F model. I hope someone can take the timeout to reply to my query.
Thanks

Yes you can, hardware is the same. However when you talk about network bands I assume your talking about the difference between networks using GSM and networks using CDMA? In which case you need to flash firmware which uses CDMA radios.

Well, when I am talking about Bands I am talking about the frequencies in which they operate. For example, my network offers the UMTS 900 frequency, but that frequency is missing from my current modem.
Therefore, I am assuming that if I flash the 930F model's modem, which does supoort the UMTS 900 frequency, I will be able to operate on the UMTS 900 frequency. Can you confirm me on that?
Or will I have to flash the 930F firmware on my phone to operate on the UMTS 900 frequency?
Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk

Yes 930F will work and install the radios you require.

The problem I am facing right now is that although the modem (Shannon335) on my phone (G930S - Korean) is the same as that on the international model (930F). But my phone (G930S) does not support one of the bands that my network supports which is UMTS 900 and that band is supported on the international version , although hardware wise (both are Shannon335) they are both the same.
So, I was thinking if i change my modem, currently its a South Korean modem and flash the international version modem could it work and make the band work for me?

Yes it should work

Thank You very much.
I would also like to know how should I choose and which modem to flash on my phone. Which things should I match and what to avoid during the flashing process. I have currently U1 security level modem, so when I flash another modem should it be U1 level as well?

To avoid problems you must match the modem to the version of firmware you are using, so yes U1 to U1. Flash the modem separately via Odin

no 3g after flash another rom?

if you flash a rom that isn't for your region, you probably cant conect to 3g cause different regions uses different radio bands.
So, if you got this trouble, you might flash this binary via odin to recover 3g connection.
it's for north america, south america and thailand!
just flash any rom you want, then flash this in the phone section of odin:

if you think this is useful, say thanx is always welcomed.

I am reluctant to believe that you can't connect to a 3G signal because of a software limitation. If the radio does not support certain bands no modem.bin can solve the problem. The P6200 support 900/1900/2100 the P6200L support 850/1900/2100.

if you dont know yet, models like p6200 and p6200L got the same hardware. But the firmware changes, because of regions. That's why p6200 got 3g over 850mhz band and p6200, on 900mhz.
The modem.bin is the firmware for this region.. like a driver, that make this band freq work.
if you dont try this yet.. go ahead and you will find that you cant connect to 3g in your country. this is only for thailand and americas
dont talk if you dont try first man
cheers
You are saying that both the P6200 and the P6200L have the same quad Band radio on 3G at 850/900/1900/2100. But the P6200 has a baseband that only supports 900/1900/2100 while the P6200L has a baseband that only supports 850/1900/2100?
Has anyone else successfully been able to flash the modem.bin of a P6200 over a P6200L and connect to 850mhz on 3G?
P_
yup.. im from chile and my device was SOD. so i have to flash a firmware from rusia.. there 3g band works on 900mhz so i only have edge on my GTP. i flashed the modem.bin from thailand (where 3g works on 850 mhz, like in south/centroamerica) and voila: IT WORKS.
You are confirming what I am saying : your TAB is a P6200L, thus has a 3G radio that works on 850/1900/2100 . You flashed a baseband for a radio that works on 3G on 900/1900/2100 . While your phone was still working on Edge ( since the radio is indeed a quad band on GPRS/Edge ) it could not connect on 3G.
I am assuming that the code of the two baseband is the same for the GPRS/Edge part, and this is why you are still able to flash it and have it partially working on a radio with different frequency.
But do not tell me that the P6200 and the P6200L have the same radio because they don't.
P_
they do have the same HARDWARE but different FIRMWARE
You've lost your mind. Someone please call 911
i already test that on 3 different devices: i9003, galaxy fit and galaxy ace.. all the same thing. and now, the GTP..
that's why im talkin bout that.. because i try it already man
P6200L to P2600 firmware to get 3g on 900mhz

please be real. to say something AT LEAST try it first. you dont know anything about this topic, so please dont be like that. you can change the firmware to anything you want and vice versa.
It's possible, but you'll have to find the modem from the P6200. I don't think anyone has uploaded it yet (could be wrong).
you are wrong my friend =)

Flashing d6616 baseband on d6633

Can any one try flashing tmobile firmware baseband on the d6633.T-Mobile uses bands 2, 4, and 12*as listed here; 4 is the most widely used band for them. The D6616 model, which is the one specifically for T-Mobile, supports these bands. 12 is the newest band and possibly the least used. There are many phones already on T-Mobile that don't support band 12 because it's the band they recently acquired from Verizon.
I could be wrong but this seems like a recipe for DISASTER.
I agree, its probably not a good idea.
Actually I've flashed d6633 firmwares from all over the world on a d6633 just want those t-mobile 700 band fq on the 6633!
Flashing firmwares from the same model is one thing but a different sub model is generally not a great idea.
If you have a D6633 why don't you contribute to the community and try this yourself?

With se1000 on this, if you are so confident that it has worked for you in that past. Get the phone and flash it, then report back
Flashing another models firmware does nothing to add/remove bands. There is a thread somewhere on XDA about enabling additional bands for devices utilizing Qualcomm chips but root and unlocked bootloader are required.

Use Firmware Of A Different Model

Hi,
I have a S8+ with the model SM-G955FD and was wondering if I am able to download the firmware for the model SM-G955F?
The phone was purchased outside of Australia and doesn't use the Australian (Telstra) firmware that I would like it to. I just figured they are the same phone just different model numbers so there shouldn't be any issues right? I might just lose a couple features or something but the phone should work correctly?
Thanks in advance.
Yea, the G955FD is the dual SIM Exynos variant, right?
I'm sure the dual SIM uses the same firmware as the single SIM, so you should have no worries flashing Aussie firmware.
But I would suggest you flash the XSA (Aussie unbranded) firmware, not Telstra firmware. You'll lose nothing, but you'll get faster updates.

Does the method works with G955J SCV35 model? I'm running NTDocomo firmware on KDDI model to unlock network (single SIM) . I wan't to flash unlocked U firmware but getting scared that the phone will be bricked.

no WCDMA

Hello everyone,
I'm facing a problem with my galaxy s7 when I lock it into WCDMA only I got no network at all , but it works fine on 2G and 4G .
I flashed it with different firmwares but no solution .
Currently I'm using the original firmware
What model is the phone and where are you located?
As the international model (F/FD) and US models (V/T/P) have a different modem and only the US models can access certain radio networks in the US, and I don't believe US model phones have full band coverage outside the US.
So if you're using the international model in the US, or a US model outside of the US you will have coverage issues.

Unlocking the bands on an Indian 8T (KB2001) possible?

If I have an Indian 8T (KB2001), would I be able to install a global/beta ROM (if and when available) and be able to unlock the bands so that I can use it in USA? 5G bands (n71, n41 , n260, n261) and bands 66, 71 is not available in the Indian version but present in the US model.
Just wondering whether a software update would turn this on as I believe it's the same hardware but the software hides it? Just a wishful thinking on my part, of course.
Unlocking 5G-bands is not possible. Phone example missing mmwave-antennas so n260, n261 bands doesn't work and I think it's not ready for even low bands. n41 may work this model.
In US I recommend buy US-version of this phone.
i want to use n41 in Indian model KB2001. I am in Thailand using this device and not able to connect to 5G as AIS uses N41 Band. can you help me with unlocking N41 band on this model.. ANy guidance?
I bought indian version, also want to unlock other 5g bands.
Is it possible if I just change DA rom to AA?

No way unlock without recompile modem firmware... If i know right all unlocked variants (China, India, Global, US) have same modem firmware so rom changing doesn't help. But you freely try and report here.
