[Q] OnePlus Two invite - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Any speculation on if the next release (OnePlus Two) would also be an invite system?

They have already given a statement that it will be an invite system but a modified one.. Don't know what that means..
For any further discussion there is a dedicated thread for all things rumours about one plus 2..

i cannot believe they are doing this ridiculous invite nonsense once again, the amount of customers they actually lost and could have gained because the couldn't get an invite and were not willing to wait months to get one was crazy, the stick they got on facebook was massive.
i like my OPO but unless i get an invite pretty much straight away im going elsewhere, there are now a multitude of high end smartphones in the same price bracket as OPO.

There's already a thread for OnePlus Two rumours in our general section here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/general/oneplus-rumors-t2961061
Not only that, but there's a OnePlus Two section here on XDA now:

[Q] Which Android phone for largest XDA dev commmunity

This is not a question about "what is the best rom?" or "which is the best phone?" b/c those questions, as we know, are mostly personal to the user. My question: Which Android phone has the biggest/best XDA development community? I have owned about everything HTC and recently bought a Samsung Fascinate. The Fascinate community appears poised to develop when the smart guys figure out the kernel or froyo is released. But, compared to my Droid Incredible, I don't see the same level of interest from developers. Any thoughts? (Oh yeah, I am limited now to anything working on Verizon).
Probably the Nexus One since it is the official dev phone, however, most HTC phones have huge dev communities (especially the EVO). The Droid line of phones also has a large following, since they're the best you can get on Verizon.
Yes, Nexus One is probably correct and I think they used to make them for Verizon. I am surprised there is not somewhere on the XDA site to go to check number of posts, number of active posters, etc. in each dev site by device. Or, maybe, not many people have this curiosity?

The N1 was originally planned for Sprint and Verizon, but it was never made due to the launch of the Incredible and EVO. You CAN check the number of posts in each forum just by looking at the "stats" column.
The desire forum is also very active. The oldest thread on the first page tends to be about 1hr since last post (at the most).
Revisiting after 7 yrs from the day of post creation.. Let me re ask the question.. Which of the top 5 smartphones today have the largest development community at xda?

Same question I have a Note 5 and it sucks, I'm about to upgrade and want to know what's the easiest to root, right now if I want to get free stuff in apps I have to get on bluestacks then back to my phone.

[Q] why are there threads for phone that aren't out yet?

Just wondering but why are there like 3 threads for phones that aren't even out yet in the US yet some phones don't have anything for weeks after release date?
ex. Motorola Bionic doesn't come out for another few months and it has a thread with multiple discussions in it, yet the Thrill (optimus 3D) has been out for almost a week, didn't have a thread started for 2 days after release date, and there isn't anything really in there but three discussions.?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
Developers can get phones early, could be one reason as to why this is. Also, they may just be prepping the forum for when they are released just in case if they cant do it when the phone actually comes out, the thread wont be put on late. Its better to be early then late.
T/u that makes enough sense....it seems att is too proprietary because their devices almost always seem to have late threads

It depends upon the magnitude of speculation a device receives. If you know what I'm talking about, Nexus Prime, SGSII.
On a side note, why don't you start with such a thread?
Well the reason that there was a thread for the Bionic was because it was originally supposed to come out around the same time as the Atrix was released so a section was put up for it around that time, but because it was scrapped and redesigned, the section just sat there.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

Treatment of "new" users is flawed on a basic level

The only thread similar to this was last posted in February 2008. No doubt I would get no end of hell for resurrecting an old post if it were unlocked, and I'll probably also get no end of hell for starting a post about something that's already been addressed. I'm a "n00b" so I can't win.
Which is what brings me here. The treatment of and policy toward those of us who are not new accounts but new to POSTING is ridiculous. I understand there's probably no easy way to separate out people that have been searching and lurking for over a year vs. someone that just started an account, but it should be done.
I haven't had the need to post in the year or more that I have been coming here because I am good at using a search engine. Most of my questions are in fact already answered. Today, I found an obnoxious post where someone was having a problem and instead of posting the solution, simply posted that "they fixed it." without sharing with the class. Nice. So I was wanting to just ask if he could share his information. That's it.
DENIED. I've been on here a long time, I've been supporting mobile devices since EDGE was the fastest connection you could get and I actually do know my asshole from a hole in the ground believe it or not.
You do realize, mods, that you probably get a hell of a lot of awfully bad information posted by "new" users just for the sake of padding post counts in your attempt to block stupid people? Instead of one or two lame posts of legitimate questions that may have already been asked, you probably get 5-10 garbage posts from people like me trying to get up to 10 so they can get to asking their damned question.
And Five minutes in between? Of course I'm pissed. That's another 45 minutes of my life wasted - at least. That assumes I just copy and paste all this into 8 other posts. But because I'm cursed with this stupid drive to fix things I will probably actually spend the extra time to seek out questions I can answer. Tack on another 30 minutes for that. Thanks guys. Your policy is condescending and pointless.
Let the shi*talking and flaming begin now. Die-hard defenders and fanboys first of course. Tell me why I'm wrong. Please. I need a good laugh. (yes, I am a cynical bastard, thanks)
Allow me to be the first to grab my pitchfork!
You have some perfectly rational points and I'd be surprised if anyone actually gave you the hell you anticipate. Its like you said though, no easy solution to seperate the good eggs from the bad ones. So the 10 post count barrier keeps the development sections clean... But at what cost?
I dont actually intend on using my pitchfork. Just thought I'd try to make people envision someone holding a pitchfork as they read my post.

You can place your complaint on the proper section, meantime you can easily make 10 helpful posts and start enjoying XDA, no matter if you have 1 month or 6 yrs.

[Q] Suggest a good smartfone in 15k category

Hi, I know there is a dedicated thread for these questions, but its too long and is supposed to be very generic.
Request moderators to please keep this thread for just a week and then I myself will delete this one.
Coming to my question....I am looking to buy a new smartphone after my HTC Wildfire S has started showing End Of Life signs. I just loved my phone but its now no more capable of handling new versions. So I have decided to move on. I got my eyes on Moto G and it looked a perfectly suitable candidate and I have waited for it since last 2 months to launch in India but its yet in the same waiting state....even Feb 5 is just a date to announce the updates on launch....and also slightly skeptical on after sales service from Moto considering its current status in India.
I like phone that are not big but small in size...one moderate camera with flash(preferably), should have good navigation capability and a decent sound. I rely a lot on google for my contacts, so sync capability is must.
I have just loved the HTC Sense but now a lot HTC is only focusing on premium category so am a little dissappointed and also HTC is least bothered about providing updates to there old phones...
I am even considering Windows Phone 8 as an option but not sure if it has the syncing capability and how serious is the lack of app on Windows Market?
Looking forward to a this entry level smartphone buying discussion across different OS categories (except iOS, as its not a entry level category )
Sorry Sir, but there are several of these threads created everyday so we need to keep them all consolidated into the two existing threads, otherwise this section would be filled with dozens and dozens of "what phone should I buy threads", within just a week
Just make your post at the end of one of the existing threads sticky threads. You will more likely get opinions/responses in them since they are stickied and are always going to be near the top of the list and won't become buried after a couple of hours under a bunch of other threads.
Good Luck!

Nexus 5 or something else?

Hello
I think my Desire Z might have just died. I was waiting for Project Ara to produce something but after they have announced a worthless test run in Puerto Rico I have no choice....
My 1st choice from the start has been the Nexus 5. The ability to choose and every ROM is I think awesome.
I also looked at the Samsung Galaxy K zoom but I have quickly discarded it as I see no ROM development.
So, should I go with the Nexus 5 or do you recommend something else?

Yes, because everyone else knows the rule that any and all 'what phone should I get' questions go in the designated thread.

Well depends on your budget that is. Nexus 6 is too costly and Nexus 5 is the right money for the right device. But if I were I would look into the OnePlus One.

Yes, because you and others, find it so fun to go thru a 1237 page thread were there are dozens of people asking and talking about what phone to get.
And AFAIK, there is no rule that asking what phone to get with my requirements and/or price range should belong in that thread.
Just look at the first post:

Yeah, price range for me would be Nexus 5 but that is dynamic depending on what else is out there.
I have been recommended the OnePlus One (or Two) as well. The only issue I have with it is that they are going now with this is OxygenOS (yet another distro of Android just like Linux has Ubuntu, Debian, Red Hat, etc.) and I feel that is a stepback. Also, I really miss that it has no microSD (this is getting more common also this applies to the Nexus 5) and no wireless charging. But, it is a awesome phone nonetheless.

If you call that owning you haven't been on the internet long enough. I'm a woman on the internet. I'm used to far worse.
If you'd taken a minute to see why all other threads identical to yours end up locked, you'd see that the collective mod reply is identical to mine.
But if you require an example, here:

Bro I'm a Linux user, I know what distros are an I also know about OxygenOS but CM and PA still officially supports the OPO. So I don't see the problem here. You can always wipe and flash
And secondly about the storage, The Nexus 5 16GB costs $349 And the OnePlus One 64GB costs $349 so its a better deal than the Nexus plus the One had a better hardware from all aspects. Plus a lot of sensors. So it's still up to you which one your prefer man.

People don't read from the beginning. They read the most recent posts. Because they're not stupid, and (usually) don't reply to posts that are several years old. Frankly, I'm surprised this thread hasn't been locked/merged already.
That said, look at the LG G2. Same guts as the Nexus 5, but with a far superior camera, much bigger battery, and slightly bigger screen (in practically the same size body). Development doesn't match the Nexus 5, but that's like saying aftermarket customization doesn't match a Honda Civic. Alternative, but a bit more expensive (yet still cheap), there's the OnePlus One. It's basically an unofficial Nexus 5.5.
Lg g2, a better nexus 5 with a low street price

1st thread - Closed because it was replied to a year later
2nd thread - Closing it doesnt even make sense. Its a tablet thread and it gets redirected to a smartphone thread?
3rd thread - Very little information
4th thread- First reply, is a spamfest of websites
5th thread - Asking for chinese products and then getting like 5 a spamfest of websites
6th thread - Same as 4 and 5
7th thread - This one takes the cake. How can you ask about two phones, for whatever reason, and have the thread closed?
If its going to be like that, my suggestion towards XDA is simply close all sections including phone sections except phone development sections . If XDA strictly wants to dedicate itself to development and wont allow simple questions, then fine. But come on, closing some of those threads were pathetic more so the tablet ones.
Make a entire subsection for "What device should I get". This way you dont have clutter in the general sections.
Also, it is pathetic that you use the sex card to make yourself look like a victim. I am disgusted by your attitude when there are women around the globe being sexually harrassed and even burned. You should feel ashamed of yourself for even mentioning after getting owned that you are a woman. Very disrespectful.

Thats the exact problem: Someone posts "I want a phone" on page (lets say) 500. Same day a couple of people post the same thing and now the thread is at page 502. People wont go back to page 500 to help that person, they will just go to 502 and help whatever they see on that page.
It is TOO long of a thread to have a continous discussion about one member's option.
The real issue here is that xda has a lot of users. If even a small fraction of them opened threads to ask for advice on which device to purchase then many "more important" threads would get buried by the sheer volume of these threads. xda doesn't want to ban these discussions outright, so there currently are 3 threads devoted to discussions about devices, please repost your question in one of these three threads: The what should I buy thread or the The Device Suggestion Thread or the The Device Comparison Thread.
Thanks!
