Depending on what firmware version you have you may not even be able to root. But personally I did it so I could get rid of the massive amounts of bloatware

I rooted my s6 and am running a slim version of the stick rom. I found that the battery is slightly better without all the other Samsung apps.

Rooted and on clean rom lite 1.1.

Rooted on stock ROM but removed bloatware, unwanted ringtones and notifications.

If you're on OC3 or OE2 and you know and fully understand the rooting process and the pros and cons that come along with rooting, GO FOR IT!
Debloat and have more control of your device.
If I weren't stuck on OF1, I'd be abusing the [email protected]#t out of my phone right now.

(Q) System Apps

I have a question. I just got my A2 today and rooted it successfully. I'm staying on the stock rom until the bootloader gets unlocked. I have tbu installed to restore my apps from my last phone. Now I want to get rid of some bloatware. I want to know if its safe to uninstall them with tbu and if I do this will it affect any updates that att might send out?

I wouldn't uninstall anything if I was u. Find an app to freeze them but read up on the apps that are freezable. One wrong move.... u know? Its gonna be a while I think before the bootloader gets unlocked! U can always go back to stock with the fxz file. I've done it and it works... for sure!
Thanks to the both of you.
When you say bloatware, almost 90% of AT&T preinstalled apps are installed in data/app not system/app so they are removable by default. You can uninstall about 90% of them the same way as any other app. This also shouldn't have any impact on the OTA updates pushed from AT&T.

No you can not do this with out having issues with updates and such! We have found in cheesecake that updates require things like the ATT crapware, and the update fails if does not find the apps installed, so if you do this, you will have to restore the fxz before any update, so that you can get the update.
Whatever anyone does DO NOT REMOVE ANY APPS from your phone, that were shipped with it! Go get modaco's easy freazy, and freeze anything that might be bloat, but just search in here to see if anyone had an issue after freezing.
Jim, did AT&t push out the update already, because I uninstalled all of the crapware the first day I got my phone!

Not yet, I have a copy, and I am working on a CWM flash-able zip that will not care about the crapware, and I also leaked it to lfaber06, to include in his stuff too.
so will we be seeing the update in v6 of lfaber06's supercharged rom?

Thanks guys again for the advice. I've had Android phones for a few years (HTC, Samsung) . This is my first motorola so its going to take me a minute to get used to. I'm used to flashing a different rom everyday and doing various tweaks so with this locked bootloader thing going on its going to be a little bit of a struggle for me not being able to do the norm.

[Q] Best ROM for running two apps max?

I have a retired S3 that is no longer on service with Verizon. It's stock rooted at the moment.
I'm simply looking for the best replacement ROM to run the essentials only, the phone will be running Torque Pro, that's about it..
Any recommendations?
Quick search and read. Will help you answer your own question.
My suggestion is stock rom.
Just be careful with vzw s3..you will brick if you try to root it if it's already on 4.3....actually you can root it, I think, but you'd be limited to touch wiz roms only. There are extensive threads on the subject and you should really check them out before doing anything.

You can easily debloat stock also. The easier way is probably a rom with it already done. I've had to do it even on custom roms

Stupid question maybe, but where are all the roms? Has the Verizon S6 not been rooted yet? I'm assuming that is why......?

I hate to be a stick in the mud but I agree. Especially since this phone is on lollipop. The N4 might have a chance on KK but I don't see that happening soon either. On the bright side this S6 is running great the way it is and has some nice features so I'm thankful for that.
You know I used to root to get decent performance of of a lagging phone, but I'm not sure I'm missing root that much. Now granted there are a few apps that I miss from no root. But I think I can live without root on this phone at the moment. Subject to change to
I'd love root for the ability to theme (theme store themes are garbage) as well as the ability too add things that should have never been removed. Stock browser, smart manager, etc.
Side note, I really hate that I can't draw on pics/screenshots like I could on my Note 3/4 and my s5. Samsung removes features I use in favor of what? /rant off

Why do you say it will "likely not be rooted"? Is Lollipop that much harder for the devs to root or something? Or is support dwindling?
I need root mainly because I need to be able to tether for my job on a daily basis and I'm not about to dish out even more $ to VZW.....my unlimited data is my unlimited data and I'll use it how I please.

Ever since the Mid Galaxy S4 area rooting has been pretty much useless anyway. The most I can do with a rooted S5 is flash lightened TW software which I can do on a non rooted phone. You can flash anything like Cyanogen or custom kernels so rooting now a days is pointless. With that said though it would still be cool if we could

This is not entirely true and depends on your usage. I use automation apps and without root, you don't have the ability to turn on and off GPS, Data, etc. There are other benefits to root as well such as ad blocking.

[Q] murdering the lollipop guild...

Oh damn. Just damn.
Anyway, you all may have seen/commented in my earlier thread about my new GS5. Thank you if you have.
I had a rooted 4.4.x phone, then stupidly updated using samsung kies to the new version. Of course, that took root, and, gave me loli.
The UI changes in LOLI, and material design in general (no borders? no X to close, no nothing? and it loses the wallpaper constantly) are just stupid. it's like what win8 did to win7. change for the sake of change is STUPID, and if it continues, I may never upgrade my phone again...
So - I want to go back to a rom - maybe MOAR - that's based on 4.4.x
Is there a way to backup my current APK's without root? or do I need to ROOT this / trip KNOX? I ask because some of the apps that I use regularly I have locked on a 'pre-material design' version - like Handcent SMS, for example.
What to do. What to do.
Thanks in advance, ladies and gents, for all your help.

This all depends on what version of lollipop you have on your phone. If you took the latest od3 update, you can't flash back to an earlier firmware. If it is oa6, then you can flash an older firmware.

I think I'll go with MOAR for now - I've run MOAR on my GS3, just replaced touchwiz with nova (I just like nova better!) - and I could put MOAR with touchwiz on my wife's phone and she'd never know the difference (except lack of bloat and it would work better...)

This is for TW 5.1.1. and will not work on 5.02. We need to pray someone comes up with a root method for 5.1.1 or they get exposed working on 5.0.x. The later seems unlikely and we can holy hope they figure out root on 5.1.1 for Verizon. Love this phone but the development limitations are a real bummer.

Ummmm what do you expect with a locked bootloader?
Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
We've had locked bootloaders since the S3. We've managed to get root and Xposed on many devices. The S6 is a beast of a device, I'm surprised there isn't more work put into it. Because honestly, root is virtually useless right now. I am on rooted oc3, running Rick's ROM, and have a battery booster. That's bout all you can do. Root explorers are nice, if you have a reason. I am hoping for a break through. Patience is a virtue.
