Yea, trying it right now. The installer zip is for 5.1.1. I can't get it to work so I think we're SOL for now.
Ok~ thanks

Maybe one of our devs can figure it out...it may just have something to do with Flashfire. Fingers crossed for getting it to work on the Verizon S6!
Not even the latest version of xposed working on this model? Geesh... Does TWRP even exist yet for the G920V? If I could back up I'd try it.

No, since we don't have root for 5.1.1. And no twrp either

Thanks for catching me up to speed. I recently got an s6 I'm on 5.0.2 with pong root. Wondering if this still won't work?
This is for TW 5.1.1. and will not work on 5.02. We need to pray someone comes up with a root method for 5.1.1 or they get exposed working on 5.0.x. The later seems unlikely and we can holy hope they figure out root on 5.1.1 for Verizon. Love this phone but the development limitations are a real bummer.

Ya, I posted this thread right after he released the first beta...he hadn't put the requirement of 5.1.1 in the OP at that point so I was bummed once I realized that.
Let's cross our fingers for root on 5.1.1 I'm really surprised about the lack of developing options for this model. Must be locked down pretty good

Ummmm what do you expect with a locked bootloader?
Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
We've had locked bootloaders since the S3. We've managed to get root and Xposed on many devices. The S6 is a beast of a device, I'm surprised there isn't more work put into it. Because honestly, root is virtually useless right now. I am on rooted oc3, running Rick's ROM, and have a battery booster. That's bout all you can do. Root explorers are nice, if you have a reason. I am hoping for a break through. Patience is a virtue.

hello I'm not sure if there's any method it yet but I can't get any response on the Android forums so I've come here since I normally get good responses here. Anyways, I have the Verizon S3 under Verizon prepaid. It came pre-installed with 4.4 and a kernel of July 22, 2014. I had a phone before this one that was the same but it ran 4.3. I used towel root and it worked flawlessly. Now that I had returned the phone and got a new one due to one of my goofs. It came with 4.4 as I mentioned and the newer kernel. I tried towel root and it says it's not supported. I tried messing with the mod strings to no avail. So I have read it's from the newer kernel they put on the S3 that patched up the towel root exploit. So my question is, is there any other way at all that can root my device? It drives me crazy not having root. It's one of my habits in tinkering with things but can't do no tinkering on a non rooted device. So any help is appreciated.

You may be out of luck. You could try kingo root or another one but none of those may work either. VZW has found a way to patch the root exploits

I thought that might be the case. I hope not though. I have tried towel root, kingo root, root master, srs root, framaroot, z4root. Anything with the app of rooting I've used and all failed. Please can someone have any solution? Thanks for the info though

Well I didn't see any nexus devices under prepaid and I'd rather not go under contract. Do you think if I got a kernel from someone running 4.4 but it's older then my own, and flashed it via Odin, that it would work? Like remove the patch and be exploitable by towel root again? Or you think it'll just brick?

I know its been awhile since i last posted here but just telling everyone i have found a root method to obtain root on 4.4 with the new kernel dated on or before july 22 2014. I used the kingroot app. Just one click and got root. Not sure if kingroot and kingoroot are the same but i just used the king root to get root. I tried kingoroot and it fails. Any ways best of luck to everyone.
I picked up the S6 from Verizon over the weekend and without thinking I took an out of the box update that pushed the build to OF1. From what I have been reading there's no going back from this build. Is that true and would anyone know if someone is working on a method to root this new build or that will allow us to roll back to the old build to gain root?

i picked mine up about a month ago, unwitting of the predistro of verizons aof1. i was really looking forward to rooting and beginning to work.
as such, im assuming, from lack of ability to load custom recovery, as well as not reload the baseband and have it stick, its pointless to try downgrading to the oldest stock? it bricks?
somewhat noob and would love a redirect to a better forum for this q if known.
Sorry, but I have searched, and can't find a direct answer, is 5.1.1 rooted for Verizon?
Where can I find the guide if it is.
Currently I am rooted on 5.02, have been delaying any OTA since purchase, rooted using Ping Pong
Thanks in advance
Anxiously awaiting this myself...I do know that Verizon locked the bootloader on or before 5.1.1 and as far as I know there is no root...yet.

It does not exist. Not even the top rom makers and programers have been able to do it. The 5.1.1 update will also make it so you can't go backwards to 5.0.2. This is the first time since I've owned cell phones that I've seen a company finally beat the cell phone gurus but they finally did it on this one. However if you are not on Verizon or AT&T you can still do it through ODIN.
So if you have a phone pre 5.1.1 that rootable and root it...will you be able to flash 5.1.1?

It will not be released ever. That has been said a few times. It uses(from what I have heard) a Zero Day exploit, meaning it's very damn complicated, and it has a high chance of bricking people's phones. That was never meant to go to the general public. It was aimed at other devs. It's a proof of concept, meaning it CAN be unlocked, just not through that way.

0 day exploits are OS vulnerabilities that the manufacturer themselves aren't aware of. It doesn't necessarily mean that exploit itself has a high chance of bricking the phone.
Not releasing the method could be any number if things. These reasons could range from stolen proprietary source code being used to the exploit's author deciding that he doesn't feel like sharing the method.
I heard that the team that found the method said that they would NOT release it at the moment but that in the future it will be available.

I know that it may not have a high chance of bricking the device, but with the device, I assume it is thanks to shenanigans with Verizon and Knox. I have already discussed legal issues briefly in the s4 bootloader thread... Damn Money Sucking Lawyers. It is what it is. I think it has given some people hope because there IS A WAY... Just maybe not that way.

I personally have never had any problems with apps that should have root detection ( like snapchat). There are some workarounds for these kinda problems, but if you don't want to through the hassle of doing them, then there is an xposed module called "XTouchWiz" that can fake your phone status to official so some apps might believe it's official not rooted.

I gave up on this already lol. Luckily for me all I needed root for was mobile hotspot. FoxFi took care of that :good:
I gave up root a while back for marshmallow it's pointless on this phone no xposed no TWRP the 6.0 keyboard is worth it alone
The only chance is if an unencrypted bootloader is leaked like with the s3

Hopefully we won't be left out in the cold with the Verizon S6..... Waiting patiently
I was about to give up on a possible root for Marshmellow and update to the latest OTA until I read about the S7 root. Eagerly waiting for good news for the S6.
how the heck has the s7 been rooted, but the s6 is still in the dark... This is my first smart phone without root / custom ROMs in almost 10 years and I HATE IT !
They have a rooted boot image those bastards lol
I hate Verizon. If it wasn't for their impeccable service in my area of NY, I would leave. I hate not having root and having all this junk on my phone.
The s7 is Qualcomm. Our s6 is a Samsung made SOC. Their method will not work for us anyway. Plus, it is not even a method, it is a leaked, rooted image.
Those on Verizon S6 will not see root for possibly ever seeming no devs care for this phone anymore. Really, no devs did when it did have root lol
A root would be really nice for 6.0.1. Certainly waiting but not optimistic.
Definitely no way back after updating right?
after getting Samsung pay to work. I can live without root.

Technically I think root could be possible with the dirty cow method. But would take developers like jcase or beansup to provide a safe method of doing so, due to the exploit being how it is.
