I have a rooted Verizon droid maxx. I am really worried about losing root if I take the ota. Is there any safe way to take the ota without losing my root? I've read like 2 posts of people saying the pro version of supersu and Survival mode keeps root. I've also read 1 post saying that they accidently took it and didn't lose root. Can anyone confirm this?
I would like to know the answer to this as well. I was just prompted for this update.
at that i know most users keep the root with Superuser in Survival mode
u can try and let us know

Considering that you cannot downgrade to a exploitable version of android if it doesn't work, I think I will pass.
Here is a guy that did it and said he keep root.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=52763259
I believe the one that did it accidentally had an unlocked boot loader which makes root possible no matter what.
I saw another post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=52795898
Saying that the biggest part of the update was the radio which can be flashed without taking the whole upgrade if you are worried about it.
Me personally, my BL is unlocked and I'm going back to 4.2. I've seen nothing but negatives (bad battery life, FC's, etc) with the updates. I might would stick it out if there was some new features but they seem like just more of the same.
I used survival mode and took the ota and still have root. Unfortunately I lost my WiFi tether and am trying to get that back now.

You should use this

That way you don't have to mess with reverting it back when next updated comes out.

I have a droid mini XT 1030, stock with root and wifi apk hack.
I removed the wifi apk hack, put super su into survival mode and took the OTA. Worked out good and I retained root.

My Maxx and girlfriend's Mini both kept root.
However, we've both lost TWRP recovery and can't seem to be able to flash it.

Bootloaders aren't unlocked.
Yep, all root functions seem to be working fine.RootChecker says I have root, I was able to install the latest version of Busybox, and TiBu and SecureSettings both get root access.
Now if somebody had some thoughts on flashing TWRP recovery...

Maybe I'm brain dead. I thought I had TWRP on these phones after SlapMyMoto, but I guess it retained the stock recovery.
Too many Android devlices... can't keep track of what's running what.
I thought the big issue was not retaining root, but completely losing the Write-Protection off ability (ie ability to use xposed). I'm locked bootloader and don't see a reason to unlock.

I just picked up one and successfully rooted it. However, none of the TWRP verion would work. Yea I know they are for the P900 and P905 but I tried them anyway since none has been made for the P907 yet. Anyone is developing a rom for the P907 anytime soon? Or if you know a beta or something? I've searched all over google but nothing came up. I guess I will just have to keep waiting :/
Safe Strap for the Note 3 works on this tablet. I'm running it with no issues.

Knox 00 ?
Knox increases? I have rooted my p907a with Towelroot and knox is 0. as I use? as TWRP?
regards
No roms
Fore now it seams like there is no developing going on other than rom s to p900 .....:crying:
................................................................
I have the sm-p907a and was able to flash back to a build that allowed the towelroot. I successfully rooted but I'm having an issue where the update is getting force pushed and updating without consent.
Is there a way to turn off the auto updates. I searched all the settings and did not see the option to do so. Or maybe an mod/app etc...
Anything short of turning wifi off after every use will get the update pushed onto the tablet and disabling the root.
Thanks!

I hate to be a stick in the mud but I agree. Especially since this phone is on lollipop. The N4 might have a chance on KK but I don't see that happening soon either. On the bright side this S6 is running great the way it is and has some nice features so I'm thankful for that.
You know I used to root to get decent performance of of a lagging phone, but I'm not sure I'm missing root that much. Now granted there are a few apps that I miss from no root. But I think I can live without root on this phone at the moment. Subject to change to
I'd love root for the ability to theme (theme store themes are garbage) as well as the ability too add things that should have never been removed. Stock browser, smart manager, etc.
Side note, I really hate that I can't draw on pics/screenshots like I could on my Note 3/4 and my s5. Samsung removes features I use in favor of what? /rant off

Why do you say it will "likely not be rooted"? Is Lollipop that much harder for the devs to root or something? Or is support dwindling?
I need root mainly because I need to be able to tether for my job on a daily basis and I'm not about to dish out even more $ to VZW.....my unlimited data is my unlimited data and I'll use it how I please.

Ever since the Mid Galaxy S4 area rooting has been pretty much useless anyway. The most I can do with a rooted S5 is flash lightened TW software which I can do on a non rooted phone. You can flash anything like Cyanogen or custom kernels so rooting now a days is pointless. With that said though it would still be cool if we could

This is not entirely true and depends on your usage. I use automation apps and without root, you don't have the ability to turn on and off GPS, Data, etc. There are other benefits to root as well such as ad blocking.

Thanks for catching me up to speed. I recently got an s6 I'm on 5.0.2 with pong root. Wondering if this still won't work?
This is for TW 5.1.1. and will not work on 5.02. We need to pray someone comes up with a root method for 5.1.1 or they get exposed working on 5.0.x. The later seems unlikely and we can holy hope they figure out root on 5.1.1 for Verizon. Love this phone but the development limitations are a real bummer.

Ummmm what do you expect with a locked bootloader?
Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
We've had locked bootloaders since the S3. We've managed to get root and Xposed on many devices. The S6 is a beast of a device, I'm surprised there isn't more work put into it. Because honestly, root is virtually useless right now. I am on rooted oc3, running Rick's ROM, and have a battery booster. That's bout all you can do. Root explorers are nice, if you have a reason. I am hoping for a break through. Patience is a virtue.
Been using the T-Mobile variant of the LG V20 for a few weeks now. Began porting over my apps to from my old Galaxy S5 the other day. Most went fine, but the DirecTV app is giving me some trouble.
I should add that I've unlocked the bootloader, have systemless root, and magisk V9.0. Using the Stock DeOdexed Flashable rom.
The DirecTV app opens ok. Upon install and first load, it asks for permissions. I grant those, and login with my account info.
THIS is when the error occurs. Login appears to have gone fine, the loading screen comes up, followed closely by Login Failure - Error 0115 - Invalid Siguature.
Google search reveals nothing. Uninstall/reinstall/clear data and cache does nothing. Trying with and without Magisk Hide enabled. No change.
I know the login info is good, as I tried it again on my old S5 without a problem. (Said S5 was rooted, and running the last version of the Area 51 rom).
Help please! Thanks in advance.
I have exactly the same issue, running on a rooted Nexus 6, running root cloak, and it does the same thing.
I also can't find any information about this, I suspect it's due either to having root or that I'm running a CM variant custom ROM.

I would have guessed it was due to having root, but my S5 is rooted, and it works there fine. And my rom is DeOdexed Stock. So who knows. Drives me nuts.
It was actually their last update that broke the app for me. Prior to then I was able to login and use the app on my rooted N6, however after the last update I get this error.

Well I got mines to work.I think what the problem is on some devices that have the app already installed and update to the newest version some how the traces of that version is the reason why the error.
Doing a factory reset got me up and running again.Maybe try that but don't forget to back your apps and stuff.
I also keep it login all the time.

Direct tv and alot of other apps are searching for root. And its definitely from root. A simple google search will show you that.
Furthmore if any screen mirror app is open or present it will also cause it to be blocked. If we can get xposed again xprivacy had some fixes to grab those checks and then send back the right responses. No hdmi only devices can run them either anymore. My tv box development got me versed on this issue. Check out tabfreak.com for some helpful info

And to clarify its not just root. But unlocked devices past 5.0 also have a check to verify the boootloader is locked and secure. Both it .. Root. Being decrypted.. All have to do with this issue.. Its not just freeze 1 service and go kinda deal.
Treat it like googles safety net... It sucks and its gonna get worse.
