[Q] Device Status: Custom but Knox is still 0x0; will my warranty void? - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently rooted my s6 with pingpong root. Will my warranty be voided even if my knox hasn't been triggered? My device status says custom, so will that affect the warranty?

If you go and show Samsung, yes! But that's why you Odin back to stock and ur good! Just make sure to go into stock recovery and do a reset and clear cache after you odin.

You do know that they could have denied your warranty service and there's not a thing that you could have done other than having it fixed and paying them. I think it's awesome that Samsung will still fix it under warranty, because in all actuality, KNOX being tripped has nothing to do with most hardware defects. They just like to have a way to deny you if they so choose... Glad that you did get it fixed though! Shows how Samsung is not that bad after all.

[Q] Rooted and Tripped KNOX - Some Questions?

Rooted my S5 (took several tries to root and get CWM recovery). Tried MOAR ROM but didn't like it so flashed back to my nandroid backup of rooted stock ROM. My Knox counter now reads 0x1(4). I understand warranty is voided, but I bought the phone on Ebay, so probably no warranty anyway.
Does 0x1(4) mean Knox has seen 4 flashes? does this matter?
Is there a Knox limit to number of times phone can be flashed?
Other than voided warranty, any other issues now that Knox is tripped, or can I keep flashing ROM's till I find one I like?
How much trouble can I get into doing this, or will I always be able to use CWM recovery to recover my initial backup?
Thanks, and apologies if these have been asked.

To my knowledge the knox flag is just letting a repair service provider know that your warranty is void. the number next to it is a flash counter, flash away to your hearts content you will not damage your phone flashing unless you really try. You cant get into any trouble.
If I'm not mistaken, hasn't a knox reset been solved on other phones? Is it just a matter of time before someone finds the solution for S5?
I wish I could pass on to EVERYONE at once about Knox...
I bought a Sprint S5 at Best Buy. I also bought Best Buy's insurance, but kept the Assurion insurance just in case.
Already had to bring the phone to Best Buy(Geek Squad looked at it) because of a GPS issue. I have MOAR Rom on it, Rooted/Lucky Patched/Busyboxed, Custom recovery....the works. The Geek squad guy chuckled, asked what my XDA screen name was, and mentioned that since he got a S4, many guys had wondered where Rompnit(MOAR's dev) had gone to. The S3 days were awesome for all.
Best Buy doesn't care about Knox......and Assurion REALLY doesn't care about Knox.

My knox is 0x01 so?

Ok, i have flash BL without knowing the knox counter, now its 0x01... well, my question are:
In future it will be possible a reset?
No warranty?
Will rise again the counter of knox if i flash rom or kerner, or its only for BL?

What bootloader?
Where did I you find it?
Knox cannot be reset. With a tripped Knox you cannot use Samsung Pay nor get OTA updates, and also you voided your warranty.

1) whether or not Samsung Pay is affected our not hasn't been proven yet. I wouldn't normally use it anyway
2) OTA receipt is no different from any other rooted device, unroot and it should work or just wait for a Rom with the new OTA built in.
3) warranty really depends on what the issue is, if you deal with your wireless provider or have to deal with Samsung and where you are.
It had never been a big deal or a hindrance to me on past devices.

No, that both Samsung Pay and OTA updates won't work not because tripping knox, but because rooted device. Also online bank security keycode apps won't work in a rooted device as Samsung Pay won't, just because pay security reasons. With tripped knox and non rooted device both functionalities should still work.
What won't work with tripped knox (rooted or not rooted) is Samsung My Knox, so you won't be able to use both personal and enterprise enviroment on same device, or you won't be able to use two different whatsapp accounts on same device using My Knox (without need of third party whatsapp clients or swap directories or things like that...).

KNOX 0*1 >> Can i still get OTA updates?

Hi Guys!
(I don't care whole knox thing, even warranty)
Can i still get ota updates if i got knox warranty void 0x1(phone into *samsung*)?
Of course i flashed stock firmware back with odin.
In downloading mode i get
Current Status: Samsung Official
System Status: Official
Knox warranty void: 1 (0*0301)
Knox doesnt affect ota updates. Only root disables ota.

What do you mean by absolutely not? I thought Triangle Away resets the KNOX tripping. And I was reading it still worked on S6... Are you saying it's impossible to "un-trip" KNOX now?

Triangle away doenst reset the Knox counter, it resets the flash counter. This is very different.
There is no tool which can reset the Knox counter.

So the two years that I've had my S5 rooted, my warranty was voided and irreversible? Huh. I've never needed any assistance from Sprint and I'm hoping I won't now. Makes me feel better to know that I'm in no different a position than I have been. I just have to hope my phone works perfectly.
Would that affect my ability to sell my S5 back to Sprint? Sorry if I'm not on this thread's topic exactly... Should I end my line of questioning in this thread?
Just keep flashing the latest updates on your own by getting stock firmware and using Odin, that's what I would do if I ever went back to a non-rooted device - might go back just to try Samsung Pay.

How do i restock firmware for warranty return?

I am in Denmark, and i want to restore the phone so i can return it. It has twrp, nnotorious kernel and batstock firmware.
What should i download and flash in what order, in order for everything to look stock again (including kernel, csc, knox etc)
Edited: I sent my phone for repairs, and when they returned it, it wasnt knox tripped anymore (could be that they gave me a new one)
Looks like it's not possible.
I flashed stock firmware using kies and it restored everything to stock but knox is tripped.
Looks like knox is a physical fuse, and its not just a "counter reset", you need to change the motherboard.
I'm pretty sure tripping Knox doesn't void warranty in EU.

Unroot?

Is there a way to fully unroot and return this phone to stock at this time? Im assuming root will also trip the knox counter - can this be undone? I often resell my phones on Craigslist when I upgrade and I wanna make sure I can sell it right.
Just flash the stock firmware, knox can't be undone, and the amount of people that checked if my previous phones were rooted is none.

Depends, root doesn't trip Knox counter for snapdragon devices, so you fully unroot them just like before

Most likely, you also won't get updates anymore.
You'll have to sell root as a feature, somehow, when getting rid of the phone.
I rooted my S8+ three days ago it was all good except a crazy bixby home app crash. It made me crazy . So i dowloaded stock firm g955u verison.
After flashing it again using odin . I had an error ... I reboot again and did a factory reset ... .and it s all good now . .. unrooted with full functionalities
