USB OTG Problem [Drive formatting/empty] - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I just bought a universal USB OTG cable, and used it to connect a 32 GB pen drive (FAT32 filesystem) to my OPO (05Q, rooted). At first it apparently detected it, but since the drive was totally empty I had no way to confirm that, so I unplugged the drive and connected it to my PC, and put some videos on it. The computer gave a me a list of files with strange simbols as name, but I thought it was something done by the phone, given the presence of the directories "Android" and "LOST.DIR" (even though I wasn't allowed to open them). Then, I plugged the drive back to the phone, and it was detected without any problem, but it was completely empty, and not even a single bit of data could be found anywhere. I repeated the process three times, always with the same results. Does someone have a solution for this annoying issue?
Thank you very much.

Edit: Problem solved, it was an issue of the USB drive.

[Q] Problem connecting to Win 7 64 PC

When I first tried connecting the Skyrocket to my desktop PC, it reported that it couldn't find the drivers. After searching around, I found out about the Kies software and installed that. Initially, it wouldn't see the Skyrocket, but somehow in my testing/experimenting it suddenly saw the phone and everything was OK.
I've just connected the Skyrocket to my laptop, which of course doesn't see the storage on the phone. I've installed Kies, rebooted, and played around with it for a while, but it still can't see the phone.
Is there a basic process I should follow to get this to work, one that doesn't involve trial and error and jumping around on one foot while tapping out the Swedish national anthem in morse code with my right pinkie?
Never mind ...
I found the problem: it was the cable! I was using a different cable with my laptop than with the desktop - a thin one that came with an external battery unit for recharging. I suspect that this cable didn't support the data lines. When I switched to another cable, both drives (the main memory and the microSD card) showed up as drives under Windows. When I then went in and enabled "USB mass storage" on the phone, the contents of the phone showed up and became accessible.
Still, I don't know why Samsung doesn't make the drivers easily available without installing their Kies software.

[Q] Cannot "Fastboot USB", cannot ADB...

Hi all. I have a unique problem here... not sure if it's a software of hardware issuse. Maybe you can help me out.
My phone can read all storage space while I am in the operating system. Internal storage reports as 2.34GB, SD card (also internal) reports as 9.92GB. I have no problems copying, reading, and deleting files using "es explorer" or transfering files via various wifi file tansfer programs back and forth with my desktop.
The problem lies with the fact that I cannot use the USB port at all except to charge. Even in HBOOT the computer doesn't read it! For example, if I connect the phone to the computer while it is in HBOOT and select FASTBOOT, I do not see "FASTBOOT USB", it just remains as FASTBOOT. ADB from my computer cannot detect the phone either. I have tried all my USB ports, installed HTC USB drivers, Android SDK (and associated USB driver package), tried a different computer, tried 4 different USB cables, but none of this works.
What is strange is that yesterday the phone suddenly worked via USB! I was amazed that after 2 months of it not working it just randomly started again, but figured I did something random to make it work. Then I unplugged it and then re-plugged it and now it doesn't work again... Absolutely awkward, I hope someone can help me at least identify what the problem is!
I'm currently using the latest Cyanogen 10.1 mod (March 12th), have it unlocked, and am using CWM 5.3.6. I would really appreciate any insight or help, thanks so much in advance.
OMG now it's working again. A constant factor seems to be the use of "AirDroid"... Whenever it is open and transfering the SDCard becomes recognizable and the computer can connect... Very awkward... any ideas as to the issue?
I'm scared to touch anything on it. It's transferring some music via USB.
Now I unplugged it from my computer and the re-plugged it back in and it no longer recognizes my SDCard at all... What is going on? It seems like a software issue but what could it be?
Well now it works. I plugged it in and nothing happened so I walked away. When I came back it was asking to turn on USB mode! I wasn't using any wireless wifi transfer programs, it was just in regular home screen mode and that's all... it just decided to work... huh. This appears to be random but it can't be... there must be some reason.
Well it's still working, but I haven`t unplugged it yet. The phone rebooted itself mid-transfer for some reason, but it still can be used as a USB drive. It seems that after I had begun using the internal SDCard to store stuff on (first via wifi transfer) it has become more "recognizable" through the USB connection... Could there be something wrong with the internal SDCard itself and not the USB connection? Can I reformat it to start with a clean slate?
Like right now my card is using 90% of it's storage... and it's been more recognizable now than ever before... I used to keep it at about 10-15% usage...
Okay, now after I have transferred a bunch of songs and movies to the SDCard, I rebooted the device with the USB cable still in and now it isn't recognized at all. I changed absolutely nothing; the phone was in USB mode being able to transfer files back and forth, then I rebooted and all of a sudden the USB mode doesn't work again... Not even recognized... no ADB recognition... no Windows recognition... nothing. So strange! What could be the problem?
Well it looks like it was my actual computer. I am connecting flawlessy in USB mode to the phone with my Dads computer. I guess I have to get a new motherboard as Ive always suspected mine was on its way out.
SOLVED
Looks like the issue has been solved. After having tried many different computers, it seems as if certain computers have success with reading and recognizing the HTC than others. For example,
My personal computer: Works rarely
My Dads: Works flawlessly everytime.
My Garndmas: Works intermittently (better than my personal one)
My Moms: Works flawlessly
Now I just wonder why some USB ports work and others dont! Any ideas?

[Q] Connect to PC as USB Storage?

I have a desktop cradle that I put my phone on at work. I have the USB cable from it plugged into my PC. This is nice, because it slowly charges all day, and if I want to share files between my phone and PC, they're connected.
At least, that's how it was with my S4.
With the S6, all I see in Windows Explorer is the S6 listed under my C drive. When I click on it, it's blank. Well, at least once or twice, I've seen "Phone" under there and could then drill into the folders of the internal storage. But I don't understand why that only happened once or twice and why I can't get it to happen again.
Any suggestions?
i think you have to wake the screen and unlock the phone before it will show up as a drive on your PC. it is kind of a security thing. prevents that sketchy coworker from grabbing your phone and copying all your files while you grab one of the donuts he brought for everyone.
Ah, you may be onto something. Thank you.

Will not transfer files properly to PC/USB Drive

I am having an issue transferring files from my phone to a USB flash drive that is connected to the computer.
It works fine for anywhere between 10-100 songs. Usually around 40 or 50 songs. All of a sudden it will stop and I get the awesome error "a device attached to the system is not functioning". At this point the only thing I can do is restart my phone, and then the process keeps repeating.
I have tried this with USB debugging on and off. I am doing this on my work computer that has Windows 7.
Any ideas on what I can do here? Thanks everyone!!
EDIT: The USB flash drive is a brand new 64gb Sandisk if that matters - doubt it since it seems like the issue is on the phone end

Usb otg problems

rooted Nexus 5 running stock 5.1.1
I've used stickmount pro and a usb otg cable to access usb flashdrives (sticks) for years with no problems. I believe this is the cable I use:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00A...AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=otg+cable
But, I have now messed things up. Now the stickmount /otg cable / flashstick combination recognizes the flash drive - but - no matter the size of the drive it only shows it as having about 800kb. Yes, I rebooted several times.
The flash drives are all healthy and when put into a laptop have 16, or 32 GB of free space.
The troubles started when 2 days ago I used this duo otg flash drive
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00L...SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=otg+duo+flash+drive
to copy some files from the phone to my laptop and then deleted the flash drive files in windows 10. After that the phone could only see the space remaining on the drive as if I had not deleted the files.
Maybe this otg drive installed something or deleted something on the phone causing the problem. I don't know.
Any help appreciated!
I installed "usb otg checker" from the play store and it shows everything checks out.
I'm at a loss.
Solved
USB host check app fixed the settings that had disabled things.
Hope this helps someone else.
