Will not transfer files properly to PC/USB Drive - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

I am having an issue transferring files from my phone to a USB flash drive that is connected to the computer.
It works fine for anywhere between 10-100 songs. Usually around 40 or 50 songs. All of a sudden it will stop and I get the awesome error "a device attached to the system is not functioning". At this point the only thing I can do is restart my phone, and then the process keeps repeating.
I have tried this with USB debugging on and off. I am doing this on my work computer that has Windows 7.
Any ideas on what I can do here? Thanks everyone!!
EDIT: The USB flash drive is a brand new 64gb Sandisk if that matters - doubt it since it seems like the issue is on the phone end

[Q] Phone doesn't connect to my PC

I posted this on a forum that I thought it applied to but the one answer I got did not work, I've done searches everywhere and have not seen a solution. There were a couple of similar problems for other phones but these fixes did not work for the infuse, so . . .
I Bought the infuse on day one. Installed Kies 2.0.0.11044_11_3. Phone not recognized, installed drivers, researched and learned the truth about Kies. Phone would not be recognized but at least installing Kies made the phone visible to the PC, so I knew I could root if I so desired, read up about rooting looked over the forums, learned my phone and finally thought I was ready. The phone had other plans.
Decided the other day that I was ready to root. Plugged in the phone but it no longer showed up in my PC running Windows 7 64 bit. Something about the phones compatibility with my system changed. Tried to install a newer version of Kies 2.2.1.11053_99_3 yesterday for the drivers, reinstalled drivers, activated USB debugging, plugged the phone in started up SuperOneClick and . . . still nothing happened. So I deactivated USB debugging and started over. Followed all the directions in the root posts and and SuperOneClick threads . . .
But somehow between day one and today my Windows 7 64 bit system does not know that the phone is plugged into it.
When I plug the phone into USB the phone asks me how I want to interact with the computer, Kies (Firmware Update); Media player: Mass storage. But the computer shows nothing. Device Manager doesn't list the phone, Windows Explorer doesn't show the phone, Devices and Printers window shows everything that's connected but NOT the phone, it's as if I plugged nothing into the computer. These places don't even show unknown device. The phone is charging so I know that it's plugged in, but it doesn't seem to be communicating with the PC. I've re-booted, re-installed, reviewed, rewired and re-alized that I have no clue what happened. (Tried different cables, different USB ports different times of the day)
It worked once upon a time, I tried rolling back restore points and disabling my kaspersky 2011, I've followed all rooting instructions in these threads to no avail.
Thinking about restoring phone to factory settings as a last resort. Got this reply in another thread (sorry about posting multiple threads, but I'm at wit's end.):
Try removing all instances of the Infuse coming in contact with your system using USBDeView. Also, how does it look in Disk Management? (Start button > search for "Computer Management" > Storage > Disk Management) Does the Infuse show up there as removable storage?
My answer: Tried it, didn't work, oh wait, didn't run USBDeView as administrator, re-tried as administrator and uninstalled all instances of Samsung i-997, then tried to plug the phone back in and still nothing.
Also not in Computer Management or Device manager either. Is there a way to uninstall any drivers that I have and then re-install them?
I did a factory reset, plugged the phone in and still nothing. Had to spend two days re-installing apps and re-configuring launchers . . .
I am now ready to hurl my phone out into traffic to see if that will help, but before I do I'm hoping someone here may have the answer I need.
. . . please . . .
If you are trying to root super one click will work. It worked on my infuse. First see if you can connect using mass storage. If you can access the files on your phone you are good. On win 7 64 bit it should just pop up to view the files. After that unmount and unplug the cable. Enable USB debugging and reconnect. Run super one click and it should work. Not every time does super one click work on the first run. I believe I had to unplug and reconnect a second time for it to work. But I did use super one click to root my phone. I was also using the drivers for the captivate at the time. If you need more help let me know.

FYI, drivers are NOT needed for USB mass storage, just to be clear.
Thanks for the reply, but that didn't work. I tried it exactly as you stated but it didn't "pop up" I ran SOC anyway and it got hung up "Waiting for device..." And a dos prompt window opened and just hung there.

When I closed the Dos Prompt window it asked me if I was running OS 2.0 or higher. Wether I click yes or no I get this message:

Thanks for the try, but still At wit's end . . .

at least for me (win7 64bit) mass storage mode DOES require drivers. Or else PC just tries to load both SD cards as external drives. I had a hell of a time getting my laptop to recognize the phone. What worked for me was I ended up installing both kies and kies mini. when neither of those worked i tried the Samsung pcl connect and that didnt work. There was a link on the ATT site for usb drivers for it. A combination of both the samsung pc connect drivers and the ATT USB driver works for me. Must be something to do with win7 recognizing it as an MP3 player when in music mode and a EXT drive when is mass storage.

You just contradicted yourself there. The phone's SD cards appearing as external drives IS mass storage mode. Mass storage mode does not require drivers.
Appearing as an MP3 player uses the MTP protocol, which is NOT Mass Storage mode, which is why it does require drivers.
ADB also requires drivers.

Thanks, but same problem. After installing these drivers, the phone just doesn't show when plugged in. The next thing is to find a Samsung store (or AT&T store) and see if there's something wrong with the phone's usb port.
Definitely one advantage of picking your phone up at a store... if possible.
My CSR played with the phone on the computer for 10 min., said he was transferring sim contacts.

i am having same problems
for the past year i have had a captivate and i have flashed it probably with every rom made by every developer here. i have flashed kernals modems you name it i have done it the phone was incredible i never had one problem till i got the infuse when i first got the phone i rooted it and had a lot of problems but after 5 or 6 hrs i finally was successful. i then could not get the phone to connect to my win 7 pc i then took out the mem card and put my roms on that then transfer them to my phone flash ect but to this day i can not get the pc to transfer files through usb. when i hook the phone up the drives show up but are faint then i connect usb on phone the drives become bold but when i try to transfer files or open drive in explorer the computer lags and the green bar slowly goes across the bar get to the almost end and locks up. my main concern is that there might be something wrong with the phone. at this point i cant even odin it back to factory. from what i have read it is more of a common problem than just one or two people. please help?
ps just flashed maxq-kk2-b10 and it rocks !!
Yeah I have all of the same problems. It must be this phone just has crap drivers.
Sometimes I get the PC to recognize the phone once. Then if I disconnect the phone for some reason then reconnect it is no longer recognized. I need to reboot the computer to get it to be recognized.
I have just come to the conclusion that Samsung's PC drivers are total rubbish for this phone.
Hi!
I have the same problem. I tried connect my infuse to 5 differend PC, with different cables, different OS, but still NOTHING. PC just didn`t know that phone is connected. As a result I can`t reflash it with ODIN or CWM, because for install CWM I need make root first, but Superoneclick didn`t see the phone also.
There is some way to make root on this phone WITHOUT connection to PC ?
try getting a new data cable, the charging part of the cable may still work but the data transfer part may have stopped working-(happened with my dads Atrix 4G after buying a new data cable for $6 at walmart the computer once again recognized it)
so go to your store of preference that sells electronic cables
buy a new data/charging cable-***MAKE SURE IT SAYS SOMETHING ABOUT DATA TRANSFER OR FILE TRANSFER!!!***
shouldn't cost more than $10 depending where you go-like i said my dad got one for $6 and his phone uses the same cable as my infuse...i think all smart phones use the same cable actually.

This is 100% not data cable problem. not driver problem and not PC problem.
I am sure, because I have 2 Infuse and one of them work fine with the same stuff. This is something wrong with the phone hardware or software.
How can I root INFUSE without PC? There is some *.apk or scripts ?

[Q] Android Phone as USB Stick

Hi!
I know it is possible to connect my Samsung Galaxy SII to a PC and mount the file system of the SD card (either in debug mode as two removable Windows volumes or, without debug mode, as a phone device). However, I would like to have the phone more as a USB stick, i.e. having only one partition (so that Windows can see it properly) and, more important: being a USB stick even when not yet plugged into the host, i.e. the host never seeing anything else than a USB stick.
Why do I want that?
Because I tried to connect the phone to a DVD player that has a USB port, so that I can watch photos directly on TV (via DVD player). The player would offer to display media from USB stick.
However, nothing I tried worked. When I plug in the phone, the player sees the USB device plugged in but does not see a file system, saying that the media is not formatted or supported. When the phone itself offers to go into USB connection mode, it is too late and the player refuses to see it still. The phone simply offers USB connection mode too late.
So the question is: is there an app capable of doing this? That would be an app that I start and which puts the phone into USB connection mode *before* I plug it into the host. If I could define a directory that will be seen as the root file system of the stick from outside, this would be great. If I could put that file system into read-only mode, it would be perfect.
I found many posts about the phone being a portable drive, connecting USB sticks to the phone and so on. But nothing fits that use case I described.
Any hints?
Hm, today I thought about it
But my DVD Player as yours, say USB Device Unsupported.
I'd really like the possibility to connect to DVD Player as normal pendrive, and play movies.
And still no reply. That's... sad

Yeah, might work... If I somehow can install Windows Phone 7 on my Galaxy
On that thread i've read about people that doesn't have win7 phone but that program working on their phone , you could try it doesn't cost anything...

You can try the following:
Open ‘Menu’ on your Android and tap on settings. You can find ‘Wireless and Network’ option in settings, just open it and it will now show you various options. Select ‘USB Utilities’ and you will get the option ‘Connect storage to PC’ as shown below.
Now it will ask you to connect your phone to PC using USB Cable. When you done with that you will get an Android symbol and message ‘USB connected’.
Everything is done now and your Android has turned into USB storage device. Transfer and manage files as you want.
Not fully sure, try putting the videos in root(in no folder) of sd card.
Reboot to recovery and under mounts and storage try mount usb mass storage

Hi!
The hints from mikedavis120 and pcbilski actually look like they could work. Unfortunately it is not my DVD player but my father's and he is on vacation now. Will take two weeks until I can try
I have tried both methods on two DVD players, and both failed
pcbilski's - 1st player when in standby, gives power to USB so when I connected a phone it popup a message to mount sdcard. Mounted SD, and started up a player and... nothing, it doesn't load, doesn't say anything.
2nd player doesn't give power to USB so when I turned it on, my phone found a connection. So before phone mounted SD, there was error - Unsupported USB. When it was mounted, choose other source, and back to USB and nothing, like on 1st player
mikedavis120's method - both players didn't saw any USB Device
Sorry for my english, but I think it's readable
Yeah, figured as much today. Problem is that before the phone accepts to becomes a USB drive, you have to plug in the cable, wait a second, and confirm the popup. But until then the DVD player already sees the phone and thinks it is not a USB stick, refusing to accept it later. A hen and egg problem.
Any news on this? My USB-stick just broke and I need to update my TVs firmware...
Hopefully this will work for future readers.
It is actually for installing OSes(I think, atleast that was my use.), but I think it will work. Create a blank image, and copy the files to the blank new drive from a computer.

[Q] Cannot "Fastboot USB", cannot ADB...

Hi all. I have a unique problem here... not sure if it's a software of hardware issuse. Maybe you can help me out.
My phone can read all storage space while I am in the operating system. Internal storage reports as 2.34GB, SD card (also internal) reports as 9.92GB. I have no problems copying, reading, and deleting files using "es explorer" or transfering files via various wifi file tansfer programs back and forth with my desktop.
The problem lies with the fact that I cannot use the USB port at all except to charge. Even in HBOOT the computer doesn't read it! For example, if I connect the phone to the computer while it is in HBOOT and select FASTBOOT, I do not see "FASTBOOT USB", it just remains as FASTBOOT. ADB from my computer cannot detect the phone either. I have tried all my USB ports, installed HTC USB drivers, Android SDK (and associated USB driver package), tried a different computer, tried 4 different USB cables, but none of this works.
What is strange is that yesterday the phone suddenly worked via USB! I was amazed that after 2 months of it not working it just randomly started again, but figured I did something random to make it work. Then I unplugged it and then re-plugged it and now it doesn't work again... Absolutely awkward, I hope someone can help me at least identify what the problem is!
I'm currently using the latest Cyanogen 10.1 mod (March 12th), have it unlocked, and am using CWM 5.3.6. I would really appreciate any insight or help, thanks so much in advance.
OMG now it's working again. A constant factor seems to be the use of "AirDroid"... Whenever it is open and transfering the SDCard becomes recognizable and the computer can connect... Very awkward... any ideas as to the issue?
I'm scared to touch anything on it. It's transferring some music via USB.
Now I unplugged it from my computer and the re-plugged it back in and it no longer recognizes my SDCard at all... What is going on? It seems like a software issue but what could it be?
Well now it works. I plugged it in and nothing happened so I walked away. When I came back it was asking to turn on USB mode! I wasn't using any wireless wifi transfer programs, it was just in regular home screen mode and that's all... it just decided to work... huh. This appears to be random but it can't be... there must be some reason.
Well it's still working, but I haven`t unplugged it yet. The phone rebooted itself mid-transfer for some reason, but it still can be used as a USB drive. It seems that after I had begun using the internal SDCard to store stuff on (first via wifi transfer) it has become more "recognizable" through the USB connection... Could there be something wrong with the internal SDCard itself and not the USB connection? Can I reformat it to start with a clean slate?
Like right now my card is using 90% of it's storage... and it's been more recognizable now than ever before... I used to keep it at about 10-15% usage...
Okay, now after I have transferred a bunch of songs and movies to the SDCard, I rebooted the device with the USB cable still in and now it isn't recognized at all. I changed absolutely nothing; the phone was in USB mode being able to transfer files back and forth, then I rebooted and all of a sudden the USB mode doesn't work again... Not even recognized... no ADB recognition... no Windows recognition... nothing. So strange! What could be the problem?
Well it looks like it was my actual computer. I am connecting flawlessy in USB mode to the phone with my Dads computer. I guess I have to get a new motherboard as Ive always suspected mine was on its way out.
SOLVED
Looks like the issue has been solved. After having tried many different computers, it seems as if certain computers have success with reading and recognizing the HTC than others. For example,
My personal computer: Works rarely
My Dads: Works flawlessly everytime.
My Garndmas: Works intermittently (better than my personal one)
My Moms: Works flawlessly
Now I just wonder why some USB ports work and others dont! Any ideas?

USB OTG Problem [Drive formatting/empty]

Hi, I just bought a universal USB OTG cable, and used it to connect a 32 GB pen drive (FAT32 filesystem) to my OPO (05Q, rooted). At first it apparently detected it, but since the drive was totally empty I had no way to confirm that, so I unplugged the drive and connected it to my PC, and put some videos on it. The computer gave a me a list of files with strange simbols as name, but I thought it was something done by the phone, given the presence of the directories "Android" and "LOST.DIR" (even though I wasn't allowed to open them). Then, I plugged the drive back to the phone, and it was detected without any problem, but it was completely empty, and not even a single bit of data could be found anywhere. I repeated the process three times, always with the same results. Does someone have a solution for this annoying issue?
Thank you very much.
Edit: Problem solved, it was an issue of the USB drive.

Phone Doesn't Do Anything When Plugged Into Computer

I'm trying to transfer like 30 gigs of photos off my Honor 6x, but when I plug the phone into the computer, nothing happens. The phone charges, but it doesn't give any sort of option to connect. I've tried this on several computers and had the same results every time.
I haven't "rooted" my phone or anything.
I have the latest software updates.
Why isn't my phone connecting to my computers?
All my other phones I just plug them in, they give me an option to connect as a media device, and then it shows up on the computer where I can download the files.
Thank you.
It acts like that since first time you used it or not?
1- Did you unlocked the screen?
2- Have you set up MTP properly? Check storage settings.
Also make sure you use usb cable with data lines (not from powerbank )
